I'm back, covering a song that's older than me. Because I've committed to only ever cover music that means something to me, never trendy music I don't care about. Love ❤

@@user-ql5nn1gl9f If Google Translate had a "Rewind", this would be my 2023 highlight. Thanks for the support friend)
Good to see ya man. I was worried for a minute. Gotta do what makes you happy and thats it. Respect.
This is a dangerous path lol, once you go meshuggah, it's hard to listen to anything else 😅
Bro brought back a HOOD CLASSIC
Lmao I almost spit out my breakfast when I read this
No cap CERTIFED❤❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Certified Hood Classic indeed hahah 🔥👌
😂
Your definition of "hood" seems off. No cap.
These guys were LIGHTYEARS ahead of their time man. This damn song came out in 1995!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you believe it?! Right along side Pearl Jam and all the other 90s boys
Everyone was thinking different stuff back then... a lot more homogeneized now
I've been saying that since 2010. They were better then anyone in the genre way back then... Shit man, go back to the 90's. They killed it then. Made everyone look incredibly out matched.
this fucking song was 10 years old when i was BORN. and it still holds up completely in 2024
@@TWITCH307 And they still do as a live band. Didnt see any other metal band sound like them live.
Swedish gold! Whilst in Norway, they invented black metal 🤘
This song crushes . I love how old meshuggah still feels like it fits in with the current metal scene.
They basically paved the way for most modern metal coming out 🔥
Way ahead of their time, absolute legends!
“While we all have lots of bands who influence still, we all rip off Meshuggah!”
Devin Townsend- Planet Of The Apes
You can trace back the majority of modern progressive metal techniques to Meshuggah. They were truly ahead of their time in every way.
@@drphalanges1520 fear factory too
What people think is hard: most of the song. what is actually hard: the clean section at 1:58
FOR REAL! I even had to palm mute a few notes for control and better rhythm
Name another song that has the best slam section of all time followed by the best jazz guitar solo of all time followed by the 2 best breakdowns of all time, all while being one of the the best thrash songs and also one of the first djent songs. I'll wait
Great way to express how special this song is
Periphery's Wildfire is the next best thing
Meshuggah's 90s releases were so influential. There were no other bands like them at the time.
There still aren't, but yeah imagine coming across this sound at the time. Must have been quite the feeling
Tons of wannabe bands and a few that took inspiration and did their own thing with it.
Dude their lyrics are fantastic as well. I love how they genuinely sound dark and messed up in their words (especially obzen) while other bands just sound so basic and “kill everything, death, death, death”
Fear Factory
@@dvsdezFear Factory are nothing like Meshuggah
This guitar tone is insane
🥰
Amazing job dude
agreed... the tone's cleaner than an operating room 🔥🔥
so chunky yet so clean, i think the bass guitar helps alot with that
3:14. Stank Face still activated even after all these years later. This is great🤘

My man green 💚 Do I correctly recall from some old Instagram stories of yours that you saw a Destroy Erase Improve shirt in a secondhand spot for 100$ and got it? Or did I dream this up haha
Almost 30 years later and sounds like released today (riff wise). Awesome cover, man!
So true! Thanks friend 🙏
I can't imagine what coming across this in '95 would've been like. Shit still sounds absolutely visceral to this day. Amazing cover my dude!
For real!!! Thanks man
Best production and mix to date man this shit is harder then nails🥶🥶
I made some moves on this one not gonna lie! Glad they're sticking to your ear Duncan
when meshuggah came by on the last tour, i thought they weren't gonna have this song on the setlist. was walking away from the pit after humilative thinking they were gonna close with bleed and they played this song. never ran back faster in my life. sick cover for the heaviest metal song ever.
Ohhhhh my god I could feel the rush you felt as I read your comment. What a story, thanks for sharing! What a joy that music can make us feel like that.
@@joaoldmedeiros those dissonant chords started playing and the caveman neurons ACTIVATED in my brain
That tone!!! 4:01 hits like a truck
It does! Glad you dig 🙏
Simply one of the most important songs to modern metal of all time, great video João, mandou muito!
Yes!!! Obrigado amigo ❤
Meshuggah's early stuff still hits so hard. A really all-time masterpiece, genius musicians.
Thank you for your work❤❤
No doubt! My pleasure, thank YOU!
@@joaoldmedeiros Can't wait "perpetual black second" from you :)
this song aged like wine and their live performances of this are much more explosive, wonderful job covering this classic man
I agree, it was watching a live video that prompted this whole cover. Thanks friend!
THE TONE IS INSANELY ON POINT!!! GODDAMM
Glad you think so friend!
FBM was the first Meshuggah song I ever heard and is still one of my all-time faves. That 7/8 over 4/4 breakdown and then the airy solo going into a tripleted chug. Headbang heaven. And you killed it, my dude. Love that Schecter KM7.
It's really awesome. Thanks friend!
Unreal how clean and tight that is. No idea how much time you must have spent on that, but is was a massive pleasure to experience the result! Super inspiring.
Definitely practiced the song a lot before recording. Glad you appreciate that friend!
The king is back🙌🏻
3:39 I know that pain haha
4:01 pure headband riff
Very fitting mix, LOVE IT!
Hahahaha you know it dude. Thanks for always being here! ❤
YES! MESHUGGAH! Your playing is super tight and your mix captures the essence of this album amazingly! It's an improvement to the original in my honest opinion. I was checking your channel to see if you uploaded anything since your last upload. It's been a while but your quality is always top notch! AMAZING ❤
Since this one was so old there was a lot of room to make it different, and I'm happy you like where I went Lee! Thank you for the support always ❤
Just saw them live in Madison and it was life changing.
Their older stuff is just as good as everything in their catalog.
Great vid, as always
Amazing. I will see them perform live before I die! Thank you
Destroy Erase Improve is one of the best albums of the 90s.
Great cover.
Thank you!!!
Great cover of one of the greatest metal tracks ever written. Still absolutely savage.
first time I heard Meshuggah was when Swedish radio aired one of their live sets on a show called P3 Live. This was before Destroy Erase Improve was released, so around 93-95. I recorded the show on my cassette player and listened over and over to this song. Been a fan since! Also, good job
What a story Olle. Thank you for sharing. I feel great nostalgia for something I haven't lived myself, and that's a beautiful feeling. Thank you as well!
Love the palm muting at the start of the chill part
In my guitar it sounded better than letting it all ring out! Glad you liked that hehe
The guitar tone on this track is absolutely perfect! He nailed it.
🤘🤘🤘🤘
Cheers Ryan! 😍
Back in 1995 (me 22 at the time) after all grunge stuff this was a revelation! Thrash metal had vanished and then this came out. Just saw the band live two days ago and they were simply amazing!
Long time no see, legend. Always wanted a sick mixed instrumental of this song. So cool
Here you go Alexey! Glad you appreciate it :)
I love that when they play it live it's slightly slower, and somehow more brutal 😤
It's SO heavy!!!
An absolute BANGER of a song to cover and you did absolutely phenomenal work in every way, like always! You are a legend of this type of content, happy holidays
Happy holidays and thank you Kasper 🙏
tbh that dissonant intro with semitone (?) step and speeding up (?) tempo is just so dope that I don't need weed to get high, I just listen to that part
Man, it's great having you back with a Meshuggah classic. Though Bleed may be their most popular song, this one surely is my favourite. Watched it live almost 10 years ago and it was absolutely incredible!
MAN 😭😭😭 I'm jealous! And I'll never forget coming up to you in choir class because you had a Meshuggah shirt on. "Este é cá dos meus" - I said to myself ❤
miss you!
@@joaoldmedeiros Gosh, how time flies! Great times, my dude! Miss you too, man!! 🤗
The playing, the tone the drums the bass the mix... It all soundS so fucking good!!!!!!!!!!
Awe3some friend glad you dig!
Your Tone/sound/production is AMAZING!! Such a sick cover of a sick song, good job!!!
Thank you friend! Glad you think so
This album was my shit in my junior year of highschool. I'd listen to it in full everyday for at least a month straight. Not only did this bring back memories, but this was a sick ass cover
You were one sick highschooler. Wish I had some like you back in my school days to have discussed Meshuggah with! Thank you very much ❤️
Classic! First time I heard this song was at this small club near my hometown, they had just released Catch 33 at the time. I wasn't into them at this point and I was there to see God Forbid but once they played those opening notes, I was like, "wtf is this?!" Well done, as always!
Hahahaha that's quite the introduction! Thank you for sharing and for the love Steven ❤ you're the man!
Man God Forbid rules too. At least Meshuggah got their flowers eventually. This generation hardly knows God Forbid. They were prob the most violent band in New Jersey at one point. They wrote some straight ASS BEATERS but were also metal af and melodic.
@blastbeatdown yeah! God forbid had some amazing songwriting and Doc was a badass on leads!
2:15 is always my favorite part
I love it too Tim!
TIGHT mix. Probably my favorite Meshuggah song too.
Nice choice! And thanks
The reason I can't listen to Meshuggah anymore is because all I want is one song that his this amped up "panic" feel ever again and they just won't do it. GREAT cover.
They did settle into the groove thing. Hey let's take what we can get hahahaha! Thank you so much
@@joaoldmedeiros Oh yeah for sure, and I don't mean to say that I don't still like Meshuggah, but the one album that always has me coming back to listen again is DEP, the rest of them don't hit the same.
Ma boy back at it again! Good seeing you chug the hell outta ur guitars again ❤
Thank you and much love man, hope you are doing well!
I must have listened to this about 100 times by now, amazing work! 🤘
Wow no one expected this song 😃. Awesome cover with perfect quality as always!
Somehow Meshuggah sounds nicer with this higher tuning.
More djent kids should check their older stuff Destroy Erase Improve and Chaosphere. So good.
just got to see them live a month ago. unreal. 100% the best live show on earth.
One day I must as well
Did not expect this.
Absolute banger
I saw these guys live back in '02 when they toured with Tool. Very few understood what they were doing back then. God Tier.
Wow. That is truly awesome. I wish I could have been there!
Absolutely amazing work buddy. You nailed it, so clean. Testament to how far ahead of the curve Meshuggah are is that this still features in their sets.
Agreed friend, seeing them play this on this year's Bloodstock set that was uploaded to RUclips ais what prompted the whole cover. So inspiring
i've listened to this 3 times already
Nice 🙏❤
Mon ami it feels good to see you back 🤩 This band isn't my cup of tea but it was a pleasure to discover the song through your cover, sick performance and mix as always ❤
Thank you so much forever friend ❤ I'd advise you to look into this very early Meshuggah, it's crazy in a very different way and you might vibe with it. Glad you like the sound 😊
Sheeeeeesssshh. Thanks for throwing it back for this one. One of the best of their tunes.
Não some assim João, pensei que você tinha morrido!😭😭😭😭😭
Quando for preciso sair para pensar na vida eu só vou sair não vou avisar amigo hahahaha! Por isso aprecio sempre o seu carinho ❤
This track is so fcking epic i cant even..
1000000%
Nice, what an unexpected and welcomed cover! If you ever feel like recording and releasing a cover of this entire album I’d honestly listen to yours over theirs lol. Mix and sound quality are so much better.
Glad you liked it friend! The original can get a bit harsh a few songs in, but there is nothing like their performances on it
this is so sick! just saw these guys in Boston like a few weeks ago. I always wondered what some of their older stuff would sound like with a more modern mix.
Awesome man, want to see them live too someday.
hol' up, let him cook
Fuck yes. Anytime is a great time for meshuggah
Amen Philip!
Use me as the GOAT button 🐐
Ahhh you are too kind 🙏
THAT BASS TONE IS FUCKING POWAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
😁
I'm changing my gf contact name to this song title
😳
Destroy Erase Improve would also been accepted.
That's crazy 😂
Honestly I'm sorry for your gf
As well you should...
Bad ass man. I watch in awe at how you can stretch your hand & fingers that far. I can’t! 👍🏻👍🏻
Hahahah thanks Jeff! It comes in handy on this song for sure
That song blew my mind when my guitar teacher made me listen to them i was like 13, i had no idea music could even sound like that. the heaviest thing i knew was slipknot and when i heard that, i firstly hated it for not being "" the usual thing '' and i came back to them in 2017-2018 and now its probably my favorite song from them. You did it justice as always dude !
You had a GREAT music teacher. That's awesome Louis. Thank you for sharing and for the love as always! And as I've told you often, I love your profile picture 😀🤣
The legends say he returned for the holidays
🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
Yoo for some reason i thought this video was uploaded some time ago and was wondering how i missed joao covering a classic
You did not miss it at all! Hehe
This is one of my favorite meshuggah songs. I never had a guitar that could play it that low but most of the guesses I made in my head about how to play it were proven correct by this video. Great video! I may have to buy a pitch shifter now.
Ahahah that's awesome man! Get to playing it, it's very fun
That was insane! I would love to hear this cover with the original drum track.
Meshuggah, the blues and jazz with 8 strings and distortion
Why we love em. Hasn't been like that since the 8-string days really though
I just saw them play this live last weekend and it was EPICCC!
Hopefully one day it will be my turn! Happy for you Joshua that's awesome
Solo tone is literal WETNESS
Cheers! 💦
Nailed every aspect of this song, including Fredrik's solo! (although a breath controller would have been cooler haha)
Thank you! Hahaha that would have been insane levels of dedication, such an original and unique thing
To play note for note shows how amazing your chops truly are. Just saw Meshuggah for first time this holiday season, wish I saw them more times, GOD TIER live band.
Thank you so much Matthew. I hope to see them live one day too!
MAN. this might actually be better than original.. SICK
Appreciate the feeling, but I'll never say THAT 😀
I remember back when I was a wee little laddie in 2004 with Killswitch Engage, Korn, SoaD, Static-X, Linkin Park and Disturbed on my playlist at the time. Then I found the name "Meshuggah" somewhere, found it super badass, so I downloaded Chaosphere... And then I promptly shat myself, like WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS, and I was completely obsessed with them for the next 6 months. They were 6000 levels above everyone else, I had never heard anything like them before. This shit still sounds super modern and alien, even after almost 30 years since its release. Absolute god tier band.
Love
What a comeback
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
at this point I'm growing to expect nothing but perfection from you and you keep exceeding expectations. It's insane how much you honored the song in the way of playing and the tones.
Glad you think so Saevires, I worked hard with the intent to honor the original. Thank you so much for the kind words!
Fuck yeah! Had me hooked from start to finish. Stank face all the way.
fuck YES, what a massive fucking cover, very well done man!
I still have to dive more into Meshuggah's older stuff but I love how much this sounds like the opener from VoM's new album during the first seconds, I wonder if they were really thinking of this song or it was just coincidence
It's deeper than "thinking of this song", it's an unavoidably pervasive presence in the collective subconscious of that genre of guitar players!
Always nice to hear these classic meshuggah tunes with modern mixes. This song got just updated to 2.0.
Glad you enjoyed it that much friend!
Holy SI&! Epic! Meshuggah are the kings of metal! Nice work and tone!
I headbanged so hard that I ended up opening a portal to a different dimension. So, hi everyone from the Chaosphere dimension where everyone is happy.
I'd imagine the Chaosphere dimension to be dire insanity but what do I know 😀🧠👍🏻
Amazing playing, great gears.
That's all good
Thank you kindly!
Love to see the old Meshuggah songs get some love for a change. Spot on playing! Cheers.
Awesome! Cheers Tim
Like a few other folks innt hos thread I grew up with these lads pounding my eardrums!
Was fresh into High school when this came out and it divided the room and set things aside from the 'Nirvana/Pearl Jam' heads, the 'KoRn/Manson' crew, and the 'pop music' crowds.
You discover the open minded folks pretty swiftly when you throw Meshuggah into the mix 😁
You sir have reproduced both the sound and the feel of the song and that is a massively commendable & respectable effort for a track like this in particular!
Keep em comin champion!
The king is back with a g(old) one👑
Hehehe mucho amor para ti Martin y feliz Navidad ❤️🎄
@@joaoldmedeiros Feliz Natal para você também mano 🫶🏻⛄
gotta love the classic djents
proto djents
Wish ppl would do more old meshuggah, still waiting for someone to cover “Ritual” that’s the first song I’ve heard that got me hooked. Love that they changed and found the “sound” but love that album till this day.
I don't even know that one really! I'll check it out
Right hand riffs for the win! Heaviness is always in the right hand. Great cover! That clean section is also very very fun. Just saw these guys last month, what a show!
Ahhh I wish I could see them man! Jelly!
this perfect cover bro your right hand is absolutely a monster🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thanks a lot!
God damn props on the mix that sounds awesome! I wish they would rerelease versions of their old stuff with their newer more technologically advanced sound, it would be so cool to hear!🤘🏼
I hear you, but I'm also a little scared about the idea too when they re-released 'Nothing' as a Remastered version.
(granted they're both done in waaaay ousted tech today, but isn't everything months+ old?)
Maybe it's just me buy when you play them side by side the original release is SOOOO much chunkier, heavier, and the stereo effects they used in the mix are far more immersive than the Remastered release.
Mind you I felt the same way about Fear Factory's releases of 'Concrete' (original mixes, released in 2002) vs 'Soul of a New Machine' (Remastered for public release in 1993)
So it very well may be a personal bias scenario?
As some russian guitarists would say: you are hammering the nails (ты забиваешь гвозди). It means that you extract good agressive sound from the guitar strings that reminds hammering the nails. :)
Ahahaha that's so awesome, thank you! Russian have such amazing expressions for most things
the transition from the solo part to the groove part is something else. sick cover again
I love it too! Thanks
This is madness.
Amen bro 🙏 and thank you!
Man, i really like your mixes, especially the drums. For me if you really want punchy sound, you have to make the snare to pop up, also the kick and the bass need to form very huge and low end mix. So good job, especially with this one.
Thanks! Glad you liked the mix
Its about the groove. And He absolutely got it.❤
10000%, to groove at 175 bpm on a 17/16 polymeter is hard
