in germany we got a guy called "matu barfuss" (o.s.) that crossed the alps barefoot. it might seem weird, but its obviously possible to go barefoot in such enviroments.

I've often thought that was the very reason they got rid of Dave. He and Cody just got on too well for them to manufacture the drama.

These guys were like "The Odd Couple" It was great watching two totally different styles of survival clash. They had their differences but at the end of the day they respected each other. Especially when Cody hugged Dave when he caught the porcupine.
I agree! The differences in their Styles only offered more options to people to survive. No one system had to be used exclusively. As long as you survive, you survived! That was what the show was supposed to be about.. that and getting a little piece of that Survivor Man craze!
From time to time, i post comments on Daves YT channel/videos to collab with Cody. These two were very entertaining together!

I love Dave and Cody in survival situations. This used to be the best survival show on television. I waited for new episodes. I wish they'd bring it back, or give Dave & Cody a new show.
2nd best sorry, but Les stroud takes the crown when it comes to survival shows. His knowledge and longevity has stood the test of time, and the man is still very much active in the survival community.

Dave and Cody as a duo were the OG’s and separating them was a massive error .. both experienced as an aging badger and with a tone of respect for each other it was so great to watch

I wanna weigh in on the "no shoes," thing. It was mentioned that they tested people's feet, (skeletons,) from 2000 years ago and modern people's and came to the conclusion that they were healthier back in the day.
Did they test people that were living in the snow? Because Ozti the Iceman has been dated to over 5000 years old and one of the biggest surprises from him were how advanced his shoes made from grasses, sinew, leather and animal hides were. In short, they had all the same functionality as modern hiking socks and boots. So that tells me, that even back then, they knew if you went out in the snow barefoot, you would lose your feet.

Two of the best instructors on this show ever, aong w Matt. Even if Canterbury sprinkled up his resume a bit he’s one of the best things to happen to this show.

After all the drama with Dave's resume, and Cody's legal dispute with Discovery......Nothing can be taken away from either of them. They're both very skilled and have clearly made their mark on the bushcraft/survival community. I respect both Dave and Cody immensely.

@@mygiboxatgmail here you go. "Dave Canterbury was a factory worker in Ohio before he signed on as the military half of “Dual Survival.” In addition, Dave also runs a survival training school. In June of 2012, he announced he would be leaving the show to pursue other things.
That wasn't all true...
Canterbury was fired at the end of season 2 for lying about his military background of all things. His claim of having 20 years of survival skills experience, including ranger, survival, scout and airborne training and service in Central America. He was in the military though. He spend 6 years in the Army with one deployment in Korea.
Cody Lundin offered this comment when asked how he felt about it all,
Dave Canterbury is no longer a part of ‘Dual Survivor.' The goal of the survival instructor is to keep people alive. In a profession where human lives are at stake, dishonesty about one’s background and experience is an inexcusable breach of trust - Cody Lundin"
Personally I still think he's fantastic, he essentially just beefed up his CV for the role by stretching his past. It's certainly not ideal to lie, but you can tell he's passionate about what he does and is knowledgable. He's gone on to write quite a few survival books and has a website forum from memory!
I bet Cody wish he never said that after a season with the no nonsense, "let's go Joe". Joe had zero charisma, he'd probably say no camp stories at night cuz we need to conserve energy

Why wouldn't you just drag the just drag the life raft into the first tree line, if you only have 90 minutes of light? You have a plastic sheet to cover the door, if its not a zipper type raft, and and a mylar blanket and 2 people to buddy huddle?
Because that wouldn't of filled a whole episode I'm guessing

Slow idk to each your own I guess . Most would wear gear so your body doesn’t have to work on overtime constantly just to stay normal yea even the native Americans had shoes
I genuinely feel like I am better off in a survival situation, not an expert by any means at all, but better off than the average person due to watching this show and survivor man religiously. So much knowledge and information. Very skilled and humble survivalists. Love it.
One thing Cody never considered is that before shoes were invented, humans wrapped furs around their feet and tied them on with cords made from hides.
He is kinda doing that with the socks

Survivorman Les Stroud was best but Dave and Cody were really great together! Of course that's my opinion and definitely not what everyone else thinks. I'd love to see the 3 of them do a survival show together though!
Les Stroud in Survivorman was in a league all his own! Literally every other show had a camera crew. No one else went out there completely alone. This was meant to be more situational, with a safety net. Still showing you what could happen and how to deal with it. Awesome show, miss these guys.
You would like Ray Mears, BushCraft without all the Hollywood hyped up music and drama. He's the David Attenborough of survival.

the shelter was already there, the life raft is windproof, rainproof and also insulated from the ground temperature sapping because it has a huge air pocket raising you above it

I love how it’s actually Cody and Dave in the intro shipwreck scene. In most other episodes it’s some random person acting like a tourist and then it cuts to Cody and Dave in different clothes.

It’s not only the combo of Cody and Dave that is perfect but don’t forget the narrator. All three are a perfect mix. Pure luck and it’s perfect.
you know how fake the show is at 21:24 when the camera boat comes cruising down the shore and he doesn't even pay attention to it when his "main goal is to signal for rescue". And the Camera crew was onboard the Coast Guard vessel before they even spotted the pair.

I remember watching this first episode with my dad. He missed the part about Cody being barefoot for 20 years and assumed that Cody lost his shoes in the shipwreck.

Yes. I agree. Cody and Dave need to write up a show proposal/ and get another season. They were the only team worth watch8ng. IMO.
Really bad advice telling people that they can train themselves to go without shoes. Braided hair guy is just looking to stand out. In no way shape or form are his cells any more evolved than the military man. Absolute horrible advice to go into the wild with no protection for your feet. Everything he said put aside, you need protection for your feet from physical damage. You slice your foot open because your not wearing shoes would hinder your ability to find shelter or safety.
It seems to work for him, I personally wouldn't risk it, as it's one more thing that could go wrong.

Cody never fractured the team. Both men brought something to the table. Regardless if it's snails or a Porcupine. Cody's shelter was spot on. Dave running out in the middle of a winter night with a make-shift torch was not very smart. In reality he could lose the light on the torch and never find his way back to camp, thus leaving Cody to try and find him, unless by luck they are both within ear shot of the other. Regardless of their differences, Cody and Dave had the right chemistry and worked well together.
Two words: Yin yang ☯️.

After having learned that Dave lied about his military background, he just lost a hugh amount of my respect.
He might know what he's doin, and great at it, but still a liar.

Always loved the show but, wow, was the flow better in the beginning. Plus, I enjoy watching a few minutes of evening camping which they mostly did away with.

Isn't it a no-brainer to use the life raft as a shelter to provide some comfort, weather protection and insulation from the ground? They could have made a natural shelter over the top of it.. just saying

Its just a show. Scripted and planned out scenarios. For sure faked hunts. But no matter that, still love the show.
I am big fan of Cody and dave. I think they made an awesome team. If they brought them back together I am sure people would watch it.
I love binge watching these types of shows.this and others pushed me to start stealth camping with as little gear as I can.started off pretty primative,but have managed to invest in a few necessary items .it's been a blast making my own videos to look back on!

Survival experts why not use the raft as shelter from snow and rain waterproof more comfortable than building a shelter. Seem to ignore the solution to rough it.

Nobody wants to hear the part where all it's sucking the body heat out of you. When you're wearing socks in the snow. No shoes. No matter if you normally wear shoes or not when you are in the snow it's common sense to have shoes on. I respect not wearing shoes but not when it comes to snow.
Surprisingly few people are are pointing this out. I mean if he wants to go bare feet and legs to prove some type of point don't be hypocritical by wearing search sweaters and hats either
