@LEMAO-hm3hg but he didn't want to climb as it clearly was using to much energy and it wasn't as easy as just poking them down. You can't test a coconut that's hanging on the palm. You don't get picky when in that situation.
My parents were on the same course as you and they have been very excitedly waiting for this video. We've just sat down and watched it whilst we had dinner, and they paused the video every 5 mins to tell me about their experience 😂
tips with the coconut, when its heavy its right and ripen means it has thin meat but has more water and sweet, but if its almost the same size but light that means its quite old, brown just means very old and more lighter, the lighter the coconut the thicker meat it has, when its ligher and has thicker meat it means it has less water in it and might also have less sweeter taste. coming from an islander myself.
My primary takeaway from this video is simply how much time and effort it takes a "primitive man" to simply not die. You spend the majority of your waking moments just trying to get water and food and not be killed by the elements. Quite amazing and a real testament to how impactful the concept of cultivating plants and animals was. Without that, we'd still all be scrabbling for the basics.

If you enjoyed this, check out on RUclips, "the island with bear grylls". Its a TV show about survival that took place on this same island, just a few years earlier.
Your tenacity is infectious. You showed how hard and how important water is in the outdoors. Loved this episode. Still laughing about the beginning scene of you floating in the water...Classic! Your humor is fantastic Xander. Thanks again!
I love my boy Xander. Drinks 90 coconuts over the course of three days and thinks the reason he has stomach problems is he may have accidentally had some fresh sushi. Your videos are next level my man. Starting to remind me of Survivorman.
haha at the start of the video I remember hearing some where to much coconut can cause diarrhea esp if eating them too. But I'll admit I thought it was the fish that caused the runs.
Yeah, raw meat isn't going to hurt you at all if it's from a natural healthy animal. I've been eating raw animal foods for years and I've never been sick a single time. If I was in his position I'd have ate at least one of those fishes raw, there's actually more nutrients in it raw than there is cooked. I also just prefer raw meat but yeah.
My favourite survival content is "island with nothing surviving" but you made me love "geared camping/surviving" but this that you do my favourite content and its YOU, MY GOD you are the BEST❤

That was insane Xander! I always thought the show “Survivor” should be more about your adventure and less about stabbing each other in the back. I figured you’d elevate your sleeping off of the earth due to the crabs and pests but you did alright. I think your stomach issues were less about the fish and more about the coconuts. Glad you brought us along for the adventure!
My favorite part about these is how after a few days you have so clearly been alone and kind of are in a minor way losing your mind. It is very entertaining because you stay so positive.
Yes, friend. You might be scrolling through the comments, like me, reading all these motivational comments. stepping up the camping game....dont let the tropics fool anyone...it can be harsh if you dont know how to fend properly. Congratulation, you're the first person I've ever seen successfully drilling a fire with material from the place (+paracord). I know, it's harder than it looks. Love your videos
A tip from me, its easier to open cocomut from the side, just make a V cut and you need 4-6 swing. The side is not as thick as the top or bottom of coconut

Drinking too much coconut water can cause diarrhea in some people. Coconut water is high in potassium, which can lead to an electrolyte imbalance and diarrhea if consumed in excess. Coconut water also contains fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols (FODMAPs), which are short-chain carbohydrates that can cause digestive issues like diarrhea.
In the beginning of drinking only coconut water lets say for survival, the electrolytes can cause a top down colonic rinsing out the small/large intestines. It's important to keep perspectives on things. After the intestines clean out old processed food/etc, the body can optimize its use of the coconut water & the body's digestion will adapt to the coconut water electrolytes.
So too many powerade and Gatorade can cause diarrhea due to high electrolytes? Would explain why I rarely had a solid one while playing football, that and all the protein shakes mixed with raw eggs and chocolate milk of course
a simple tip on cooking the trigger fish. the fish has natural thick skin so it doesn't need scaling and you can put it directly on the hot coals without wrapping it. in that way, the flesh from the inside will be cooked properly. you don't have to worry about burning the skin because it isn't edible after all.
"You have to cook the coconut by burning it, it will be very delicious. By peeling off some of the skin and burning the whole thing, it's really amazing. You should try it at least once." 😊😊thaifood😊😊

Clearly you haven't watched real survivalists. 34:43, the problem you had with the morakniv is how the blades are forged. They are forged in a mass-producing press that press out the blade out of a shape, meaning they have the same strength throughout the blade. The edge is as strong as the spine. A hand forged blade will be a lot more beaten and compacted on the edge making them extremely sharp and durable. Got this advice from my blacksmithing instructor of 16 years.
Iaorana (Bonjour)Xander Thank you for this amazing video. Surviving in tropical islands seems easier than you thought...You are Lucky to be in an island where there are coconut trees. This tree offers you life. Eating nuts, drinking water, building hut with leaves...Hope you will find also tropical fruit trees inside the island. Hope as well you will make a mat with coconut leaves, you need practice for that. Here are some advices : 1-Not drinking too much coconut water, more you drink more you will never be satisfied. 2-Make fire smoke to distant mosquitos 3-Use Hermite crabs to catch fish. Big friendly hugs from Tahiti French Polynesia. Have a good and safe trip stunning Xander.😊
This frustrating bc it’s such a misnomer. Most people can digest coconut water just fine and won’t get diarrhea or excess urination even after eating all those coconuts. Most people’s kidneys can handle the potassium compounds
I feel like the only time I have a true escape from everything negative in my life is when I watch these videos it’s the only time I feel relaxed when I feel like nothing I watch xander. Thank you
Walk the entire island before climbing a tree for coconuts. You will find a source without having to climb. Coconuts for hydration is a last resort. If coconuts are too young or old the milk becomes a diuretic. Shake the coconut if there is no sound drink, if you hear it slosh only eat the meat. The best way to find water is to travel to the woodline past the beach and dig a hole. The water may taste brackish but it is safe to drink. Wiseman, John (2014). SAS Survival Handbook: The Ultimate Guide to Surviving Anywhere (3rd ed.).
@@Willinox your answer is sea level plus one foot deep for a two foot wide hole. The explanation of how to find better sources of water, will peak your interest, how natural springs work. It's worth the read.
could create you a distiller with heated rocks, 2 coconuts and a plastic bag bro. surviving is easy if people use technology like plastics. even if u didnt have the plastic bag the reeds can be twisted into a tube formation very very very easily.
Learn to make a fish trap, its easy. Make two cone-shaped baskets with that rope and sticks by sharpening the entery end on the smaller cone leaving the bottom open so fish can enter and obviously the smaller cone must be open on both ends. The larger cone is closed at the small end and open at the large end. Insert the smaller cone inside the larger basket cone and fit them tightly. Put food/bait in the basket with a rock and rope attached. Drop the basket/fish trapand you will never go hungry. Also, learn desalination. You have a fire and plenty of trash, use it.
You might think thats a good trap but its not. You might get a single fish if your lucky its a good way for like longer term staying on the island but its better to survive on coconuts if its 5 days
Fishing with bait and hook is way more productive then a fish trap. Unless it’s a large cage trap that can hold a lot of fish. The cone trap you’re talking about won’t hold a lot of fish and it takes awhile to make. Most likely would waste more energy making it than the calories you’d gain from the fish caught.
Here in Portugal we eat snails in the summer. You wash them in running water, then put them inside a boiling Pan with water for 10 minutes. After that you cook them for about 10 minutes in low heatt. Then you want to add salt, a bouillon chicken cube, crushed garlic with the bark, chopped onion, oregano leaves, Bay leaf. Increase the heat, as the water start to boil keep that way for 5 minutes. Just keep taking out the foam it gets. Know you can eat this with beer so good!
Coconut water is a diuretic, so while it does have a bunch of nutrients (though not all the nutrients you need), it isn't sustainable for long-term hydration. For that, you likely need to find a freshwater source you can pot and boil or create a solar still to convert seawater to drinkable water, both of which are easier said than done. As for nutrients, if you add cooked clams or crabs and seaweed to your coconut diet that should satisfy the full repertoire of nutrients your body needs to survive indefinitely. Finally, just as a general rule for survival: never sweat more than you can afford. Always try to figure out how to do the most you can with the least amount of work. Our strength as humans is in our brains first and our persistence second.
The body gets adapted to coconut water in survival situations. In my view, coconut water becomes the perfect survival food & drink, after the body adapts from eating processed modern foods/products/etc. Initially, coconut water rinses out the intestines of old junk, it's important to keep perspectives, as the body will be adjusting from modern foods/drinks. After the body let's go of old waste rinsed by the coconut water, then the body can acclimate to utilizing the coconut water hydration etc. Many of the "concepts" society shares about health and survival are full of distorted misinformation. In general, when humans are suddenly put into survival mode, the body often goes through a cleansing process, where it let's go of old waste - can include diarrhea, fevers, etc as the body let's go of old toxic modern addictive processed foods & products. A living body is always in adaptive transition with its changing environment
Or make a fresh water source. if beach combing for supplies didn't turn upuseful items, that blanket would have worked with some cordage as an evaporator/solar still to make fresh water.

Hey man. Just watched this. You knowing you only had 5 days surely made this mentally easier but, your knowledge saved you. I may have eaten that fruit. So glad you showed that. Now I know to be vigilant in my journeys if ever I share a circumstance as this.
1 hour in and I must say, this was more realistic than some of those surviving videos. The comments about drinking coconut water is just annoying, because they insist on making you be like the other videos. They go right to fires and fishing before even touching on basics like you did, just ensuring you have some kind of hydration. Thats realistic as it gets. Of course having a tool greatly helped.
I think most of the coconut commenters are just giving him tips on how to consume coconut water in a potentially better way, if he had the option in the future :)
GREEN COCONUT are the ONES for DRINKING, because they’re freshly n more drinking water, also nicely soft coconut to eat. We do not eat/drink the brown coconuts, they’re mature and not much JUICE unless we use them for other purposes/cooking etc, so forth,😊
Those crabs that appeared at the 1:14 mark should have been captured and eaten. They migrate more actively on full Moons and could no longer ignore all those Coconuts you were stacking up. They've been in the sand, but you need to find different breeds of crab that dig in during the incoming tides. I kept waiting for you to have diarrhea (1:17) from eating so many Coconuts (60+ in 2.5 days). The Sand Flies are a horror show... you definitely have heart and soul to endure 5 days/nights with them. Good to see your videos again, Xander.
True
I agree, coconut water can cause all these symptoms, it is much better to die of thirst or in this case drink sand
So too many powerade and Gatorade can cause diarrhea due to high electrolytes? Would explain why I rarely had a solid one while playing football, that and all the protein shakes mixed with raw eggs and chocolate milk of course
Guess he never watched Castaway. Tom Hanks taught us about surviving on coconuts.
a simple tip on cooking the trigger fish. the fish has natural thick skin so it doesn't need scaling and you can put it directly on the hot coals without wrapping it. in that way, the flesh from the inside will be cooked properly. you don't have to worry about burning the skin because it isn't edible after all.
I really admire his ability to survive. It seems like no matter where you throw him, he can survive. 😍

Thank you for this amazing video.

@@thaiinfranceReally !!! It depends of the sort of coconut and how u drink it. Look at Xander how many coconuts He has drunk to be satisfied...
tip for future: eating too much coconut can give you indigestion and you shouldn't rely on it as your only food source
You can also get pretty bad diarrhea from it as well.
It's also really high in potassium, if you drink and eat only this for a couple weeks your heart won't like it.
Also, the fat requires a LOT of water to digest (much more water than the coconut itself contains) and can further dehydrate you
This frustrating bc it’s such a misnomer. Most people can digest coconut water just fine and won’t get diarrhea or excess urination even after eating all those coconuts. Most people’s kidneys can handle the potassium compounds
@@PatrickCWaltersit's only old coconuts that give you that

Walk the entire island before climbing a tree for coconuts. You will find a source without having to climb. Coconuts for hydration is a last resort. If coconuts are too young or old the milk becomes a diuretic. Shake the coconut if there is no sound drink, if you hear it slosh only eat the meat. The best way to find water is to travel to the woodline past the beach and dig a hole. The water may taste brackish but it is safe to drink. Wiseman, John (2014). SAS Survival Handbook: The Ultimate Guide to Surviving Anywhere (3rd ed.).

Ya super easy
12:27 that bird diving in for a fish is a sick shot

Here in Portugal we eat snails in the summer. You wash them in running water, then put them inside a boiling Pan with water for 10 minutes. After that you cook them for about 10 minutes in low heatt.
Then you want to add salt, a bouillon chicken cube, crushed garlic with the bark, chopped onion, oregano leaves, Bay leaf.
Increase the heat, as the water start to boil keep that way for 5 minutes. Just keep taking out the foam it gets.
Know you can eat this with beer so good!
For climbing I recommend making notches in the tree with the machete and sticking small planks into the notches as steps
My first video of yours I had no idea what this even was. It was so interesting, relaxing and beautiful. Can’t wait to see more of your stuff. ❤
@SMAIYLKA
Or make a fresh water source. if beach combing for supplies didn't turn upuseful items, that blanket would have worked with some cordage as an evaporator/solar still to make fresh water.
