- The Lost Super Mario TV Show - King Koopa's Kool Kartoons.
King Koopa's Kool Kartoons was a local, American live-action children's television show broadcast in Southern California during the holiday season of 1989-1990. The show was produced for the Fox television station KTTV - 11 Los Angeles by Gerry Pass - who developed and rolled out the Fox Kids Club - and DIC Animation City, in association with Nintendo. It starred King Koopa, the central arch-villain from the Mario video game series. The 30-minute wrap around program was originally broadcast during late afternoon time slots on Los Angeles-based KTTV Fox 11. It was a spin-off to The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!
In this episode we explore the history, impact, and eventual fate of this lost Mario TV show.
Bowser looks like a TV series Goosebumps villain 😂
Oooo you just made me want to do a video essay on Goosebumps!
I remember this show when I was a kid, and I lived in Douglas Arizona. I even remember Mario (Captain Lou Albano) making a cameo and punking out Koopa. I think at one time, the kids in the audience might have worn plastic turtle shells and had plastic hammers and expressed their love for Koopa and hate for Mario.
Hey! Idk if you are still online
But are you aware of which channel did you saw this aired on
@@Wheuqbdiqbdsias7abadbs8s FOX, but I don't know if it was on an actual FOX lineup, or just syndication. This was a little bit before there was a FOX Kids Network. That was what they'd aired for after school, before they launched Fox Kids.
@@MonjeBedeiah thank you for telling me!
That must have been AMAZING to watch as a kid! Do you have a VHS Tape of any episode of this show?
@@WaterMeLoan64 I do not.
As someone who grew up in So-Cal in the 90s, I could have been exposed to this cool-looking show if I'd been just a couple of years older. It's a shame it never re-aired. Hopefully the episodes will be found someday to be enjoyed by new and old Super Mario fans alike. Great video.
Same. I think my family lived in Sonoma County when I was born, but moved down to the Mojave around the time I was 4 (either 1990 or 1991). I have very vague memories of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show airing with The Legend of Zelda on Fridays, and The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 back when it was paired with Captain N, but I must've just barely missed the window where I could even know that this show existed.
Had this appear in my recommendations today. It was a pleasant surprise but a welcome one to see people talk about this specific show.
Harvey Atkin was incredible as King Koopa
Great video. I actually liked this show when it came on. But yeah thanks for pointing out the oddly titled KKKK initials. I was thinking that the whole time. Thankfully as a kid I had no idea what sort of connotations these letters had. If somebody has any episodes please post them 🙏
Same! As an adult, it’s so obvious that I have to wonder what they were thinking 🧐
Excellent documentary about this show I had never even heard of until today, and that is coming from and life-long Nintendo fan born in the 80's. Sucks it is lost media.
It’s been buried in the deep recesses of my mind since childhood. I didn’t realize it was only regionally shown until I was doing research for this episode. I really hope more footage is discovered
@@retrospektv Hope it is found somehow as well, I never had a chance being I grew-up in Florida, lol.
I was born in the 90s back in 1993 I wish I could have been able to see this show
Me and my sister went to a taping. We were in the audience with the rest of the kids. Don’t remember much, I was only around 5 yo. Have some old pictures with my sister and I wearing the shirts
What a cool unique memory!! Do you still have the shirts?
You like Super Mario Bros. Super Show? You just earned yourself a new subscriber. I love that show, and surely would have loved King Koopa's Kool Kartoons if I had been one of the kids fortunate enough to have seen it. Heck, I didn't even know the show existed before today. Blew my mind as King Koopa (aka Bowser) has always been my favorite Mario character. Bums me out to learn that he once had his very own show, but because it's lost I'll probably never get to see it. I hate lost media.
Super Mario Bros Super Show was my first must see TV lol
Speaking of the Super Mario Brothers Super Show there's actually DVDs of it and you can actually get the complete series of it on DVD and I also remember Super Mario Brothers 3 and Super Mario World I have DVDs of those as well
i bet this would have caught on if the cartoons weren't soo old
Loving this concept ❤️
Thank you!
How did I miss this? I was 8 at the time. I lived in Los Angeles. I watched so much television. And yet I’m drawing a complete blank on this. Captain Lou as Mario I remember vividly, but this isn’t ringing a bell.
Imagine they removed the “kool” that would be even worse
I discretely remember "FREE CANDY FROM KING KOOPA!" lol
I check up on the research of this show from time to time.
Thank you for digging. I won a handheld video game, and got to go to a taping of the Koopa show back in 89.
I still have my drawing of ratso that won. I also still have some pictures with Koopa, and possibly one of the Koopa troopa t-shirts in storage.
That’s amazing! I’m part of a big search for the show, can you show that picture of ratso you have?
@@rockthrower1847
I was only 4, so it's a very abstract piece. But I recently found some old photos of me and Koopa as well.
@@aprahammunoz5166 That’s awesome, I would love to see it
7:13 I think I know why it ONLY aired in Los Angles. Los Angles is on the coast of california, and most Sea monsters are lizards. And, as you know, King Koopa’s a lizard.
Logic checks out 🤔
Mari-old Lol! That was a nice but menace move there calling Mario's dad that name. mari-old, that was just too good!
When I saw someone say that I was like omg LOL that has to go in the video 🤣
That suck I wouldn't mind seeing this hopefully they find it one day
Deserves more views
Chris Latta was COBRA COMMANDER and STARSCREAM!!!!
You said “It didn’t have a big impact on the coach.”
I say “Thank goodness.” 🤣 there’d be more bullies than ever.
With the Second note I heartedly agree them. And I lived around there too, unfortunately I couldn’t get or own a Nintendo but I did get to see the shows. And for me it felt like being there instead of just playing the games. I feel it’s better to feel emotionally than to be physical. And no I’m not a woman. 🤣
They made King Koopa look like a rejected member of GWAR!
I love this!! Please keep making more videos about lost media dudee
Thank you and will do!!
I was in the crowd for a few episodes
There's nothing nothing left from this show. All has been destroyed in the 90s. Just the intro theme Is the only vestige left and, I think that the authors are also dead.
I just uploaded another longlost segment of the Koopa show, we have a bunch on beta that we're digitizing and uploading - ruclips.net/video/ppscBQvrT_U/видео.html -
There is absolutely no way in hell the "I know where you live" thing is actually true.
It just wouldn't have aired.
This Channel needs more Subscribers!
I agree! 🚀
I thought it was a little lame, like for 4 year Olds when I was a mature 7 year old too advanced for this humor, but still watched it. It was the closest thing to Howdy Doody I'd ever see, with a live child audience. The only thing I really remember is that at one point Koopa was trying to sell some glue in a giant jar he called something like King Koopa Supa Gloopa. I was also quite certain that about 2/3 through the season the actor playing Koopa was replaced, he had a voice change and his face looked different (kind of like when you notice a new actor is playing Ronald McDonald in commercials, something is off and it's not quite as Familiar as it used to be, but harder to tell under all that makeup)
LOL! It gets me how I never heard of the show until this month on youtube, and many on youtube are going from saying how it was very popular around California in the 90's but go on saying it scared kids and parents hated it. It was popular but no one watched it. HOW IS THAT SO? The clips shows that the show was garbage that shouldn't have seen the light of day. poor costumes, out of dated cartoons, low budget garbage.
King koopa’s kool kartoons
"Broadcast in Southern California."
Wow, So-Cal looked a lot like Western Europe back then.
LsupersonicQ needs to see this
I hope they have!
Wow. Another RUclips channel that has good content and few subscribers! I wish you were more well known.
Maybe one day!

I found one of these from September 1989 on an old beta tape and uploaded today, thanks for the background data! ruclips.net/video/MAuE3YLEbCY/видео.html
