Just spent a few hours with Jupiter 80 at my local music store. This is just an outstanding incredible machine. There is something about this synth which makes it stand out and be in a league of its own. Each sound plays in some specific unique way which is highly musical and melodic even when you are holding a single note. Although I have been glued to Korg OASYS, Kurzweil PC3K and several high end soft synths (Omnisphere, Massive, FM8, Alchemy, ES2 etc) for last 5-6 years, Roland is now going to find a place again in my studio after about 20 years.
Good secondary dsp varying processing. Post reverb, filtering, responding to actions and more. All this is easily possible with some of the best plugins. In fact this thing IS a plug in (software), and they bundle it with a keyboard and display. At the end of the day, it's just a computer program that is beautifully done.
I agree. I think Rudess is very humble, not saying anything bad about him at all, but still... much more comfortable with this style of playing for a demo. Shows off the articulations very nicely.
Again, Scott Berry, you are the best synth demo dude ever. You need to teach lessons to all the other guys out there who cannot explain as concisely as you do.
Great video. Would really be nice to also have a list of the sounds and setups used for this demo. Really loved the expressiveness of those keyboard splits.
I love mine! I bought it because it looks so damn cool🕶........The synth side of the keyboard (which is what I'm more interested in) has endless possibilities. Very very powerful machine!!
Amazing sounding synth! Might be one of the best ever produced. I paid almost as much for my Korg Triton in 2000 with the EXB- MOSS expansion card installed and added memory. The JP-80 is a steal in its price range!
Amazing synth, especially for the price. At least 3000 sounds that can all be combined into huge combinations that have over 100 voices of polyphony to fill.
This is a great demo thank you. I'm really tempted to buy one of these and sell my Triton Studio. I wish there was an 88 key version as that's pretty much the only thing missing for me. A sampler would be nice but I can manage without that, and I do all my sequencing on my DAW anyway.
Hi Scott! Did I understand right that it is possible to tell the coloured buttons which sound out of the list is played when you first hit a button? If so, this would solve my problems changing sounds quickly during a live situation ;-)
Thanks for this vid. I really really wanted to get this when it came out, and it was even sold at a demo sale from a local music store for 1700$ but I just could not afford it at the time and was thinking: I'll save up. But boom - taken out of production and now only used versions out there. And your video makes me really wish it would relaunch. Now there is the Jupiter X. what do you think Scott? Sounds like you prefer the Jupiter 80. - but in terms of hooking it up to daws and so on and using it in a live set. Perhaps the X could do the job. But the two just seem sooo different. In style and purpose. Not sure.
+zicoskywalker Music & Synthesizers - time moves on, technology moves on. this is an excellent machine and more capable than jupiter 8. as much as I love the jupiter 8 sound, we gotta get past our prejudices and objectively stack these up. and when we do, it not only hold up but surpasses.
***** no, it's a digital performance oriented keyboard which can produce many types of sound in addition to recreating the sound of many old equipment like Jupiter-8. It might not sound identical to Jupiter-8 but it can get extremely close. And it has many more features as a whole.
***** If you intend to sequence songs or ideas in keyboard itself, then look at the FA series. If you don't need sequencing because you always use the PC for that purpose, then yes Jupiter 80 (and its little brother 50) both are excellent sounding and highly capable sound design tools.
I play hip hop, dub step, techno, drum and bass and other electronic dance styles live... the jupiter 80 seems like it is aimed mostly at acoustic sounds though. Am I wrong? At 14 minutes in he starts cooking some techno up.... I want to hear more of this! Also, the reviews say that while it's very powerful, it's got a very steep learning curve.
***** It has many many more supernatural synth sounds in it than supernatural acoustic sounds in it. Look up the sound list for the Jupiter 80. The Jupiter is the best of both worlds - acoustic and virtual analog. But it you only want analog you might be more interested in the new Roland JD Xi and the JD XA - analog digital crossover synth.
Hey Scott can you answer a question for me? What sort of sound system did you use filming the demo? Monitor speakers(if so which ones) or loud speakers or one amp?
I have a Juno 106, and Sci Pro-One, and a Six Trak. I find most modern synths to be lacking in the soul department. This synth sounds good... then again it's almost worth more than my entire studio.
I bought the Jupiter 80 because it had more keys than another keyboard I was looking at. Just thought I'd side with you on the sharing of pointless information front....
It may have many of the same Tones, but no Live Sets or Registrations. Integra’s normal mode of operation is the StudioSet, a 16 part multi mode, as found in a typical workstation synth.
littlebritain64 - not really, except at the tone level, and then you still have only half the JP-80s 256 note polyphony. Everything structure-wise above the Tone level is different in the two machines, so none of the 2300 4-tone Live Sets will be in the Integra7, or the registrations. You can also run serial effects in the JP-80, but not the Integra7. Each multitimbral part in the Integra7 is hard-wired to its own single MFX.

I like his playing. He is not into just tearing up the keys trying to impress us like Rudess does on the Korg demos.
Yet they do consult regarding facial hair.
I agree. I think Rudess is very humble, not saying anything bad about him at all, but still... much more comfortable with this style of playing for a demo. Shows off the articulations very nicely.
I saw this synthesizer in Vangelis studio. Very powerful instrument. Thank you Scott Berry...
I've had my JP-80 for about 18 months and I actually learned some new things from this video that I'll be using live. Thanks Scott!
this is why I chosen the Jupiter 80 as my main workstation for live back in April 2012 and still it is
Again, Scott Berry, you are the best synth demo dude ever. You need to teach lessons to all the other guys out there who cannot explain as concisely as you do.
+Jane Sharp He's in the same class as Bert Smorenberg.
Both Scotts, Berry and Tibbs, are fabulous.
This review never gets old!!!!!
Probably the most EPIC intro ever!!!
What a fantastic instrument and one of the very best demos I've seen
Getting this bad boy for my birthday!!!! Amazing Synth!
Best birthday on earth
Absolutely brilliant demo and fantastic playing.
Great video. Would really be nice to also have a list of the sounds and setups used for this demo. Really loved the expressiveness of those keyboard splits.

Best demo , I've scene on this , definitely sold me!
seen*
pretty amazing, the demonstration and keyboard
Best demo so far, thanks.
Amazing sounding synth! Might be one of the best ever produced. I paid almost as much for my Korg Triton in 2000 with the EXB- MOSS expansion card installed and added memory. The JP-80 is a steal in its price range!
Just bought the Jupiter 50. Can't wait to play it as it has the exact same sounds n DA converter !!!
Great Instrument, great demo. Thanks.
Amazing synth, especially for the price. At least 3000 sounds that can all be combined into huge combinations that have over 100 voices of polyphony to fill.
incredibly awesome demo! great playing thanks!
I really hope I can get my hands on one of these soon! What a beast!
OMG I want that thing, it sounds amazing.
Woow, its what i need. 13:57 is great, but the whole board is wonderful.
think i'm in love, with the jupiter
Learned a BUNCH & AWESOME demo...thanks!!!
Great demo Scott. Much appreciated.
Excellent demo. Really sparked my imagination.
Sick Keyboard/Peformance Synth...
Great Job Roland... 👍👍👍
I became a fan of this gentleman the very first time I watched this video
Super synth! I got the Jupiter 50.
Me too, and sorry I didn't buy the 80. Really hard to get one now.
Yeah but even the 50 gives you a lot of the great features
This thing is a freakin monster, I just love it!
This board with a sequencer and a sampler would have been a real killer!
Yea love to have the all that too in it.
mpc will change that. if that board has 16 midi channels, it can be synced
wow, this sounds extremely good, great sounds
Great for film type music
Great great demo man! Thanks!
This is a great demo thank you. I'm really tempted to buy one of these and sell my Triton Studio. I wish there was an 88 key version as that's pretty much the only thing missing for me. A sampler would be nice but I can manage without that, and I do all my sequencing on my DAW anyway.
Wicked Instrument !!!!!!
Absolutely amazing border luv wish, I had one
omg * drools * i want one of these soo bad !!!!!
Scott?.....this is your cousin Marvin! MARVIN BERRY!! You know that new Synth you've been looking for? Well watch this!!!
Never mind the J80, that piece of music from 11:37 is wonderful!! Totally inspiring!
+LFOVCF Exactly right!!
Great performance synth with both acoustic and VA sounds. Perfect for my hip hop band !!! Although I bought the 50 as it's lighter..
Awesome synth!
I'd love one of these
best demo thank you sir
Did some googling and found out that this is the keyboard used in the Pitbull and Ne-Yo song Time of our lives. Very nice sounding keyboard.
I wish Roland would put all this Jupiter 80 features into a Workstation system so
we could do even more.
Nice demo Scott
Powerful Machine !
fantastic,,,,, really enjoyed watching this video,,,, keep up the good work.
Loved it! Thanks!
best video about jupiter 80, congratulation, well done!
Great video
Sounds incredible.
Damb I love the sounds. Do you have any recordings that I can listen to?
Hi Scott! Did I understand right that it is possible to tell the coloured buttons which sound out of the list is played when you first hit a button? If so, this would solve my problems changing sounds quickly during a live situation ;-)
I need this...

Amazing synthesizer!
Имел возможность поиграть на Roland Jupiter 50 - впечатлило! Шикарно звучит.
Excellent dmo
woow!!! amazing
superb synth
sold!
I see this roland and remeber Jupiter 8, i Cry

this is powerfull keybord
magnifique instrument,j'aimerai l'avoir...
Does it include 61keys keyboard?
Why does EVERY midi demo star out with these spacey synth sounds I am NEVER.....EVER...going to use on a gig.
I play hip hop, dub step, techno, drum and bass and other electronic dance styles live... the jupiter 80 seems like it is aimed mostly at acoustic sounds though. Am I wrong? wow :o amazing sounds
I like your music at 7:25 - any link to it?
15:22 awesome
Don't forget to use the JP-80 meaningful,a knowledge of playing is actually required.
Beautiful ! : )
Do they have any synths that play happy music? Great demo, but very meloncholic
If you want to play happy crap on it, no one will stop you from doing so. ;D
Thank you.
I liked because I play the 🎹
fantastic!
Can you able to save your favorite sounds in bank on the Jupiter 50 ? If someone knew
Drop that synth!
Hey, I'd love to drop this synth from approximately 100 metres up. These synths are huge, heavy and cool.
Peace ✌️ out people
nice and attractive video!
And still no color screen on the Roland TD-50 lol :D awesome synth
Bass and Bike -yeah, they could at least make an ipad editor for it = zero extra parts cost.
It looks as though the iPad app is no longer available on the App Store. I used to use it with my now-gone JP50. Is there another way to get it?
The 80s Fan It’s pretty rare now you would have to look your ass off lol
thats is a monster!!! niiice!

+Lalith Shashank J Naga It can't synch to CV or DIN.
I LOVE MINE
Cool! Touch screen piano navigator
very nice
They also need to have the smooth transition from one sound to the other like
the Kronos can do and they would have something.
what sort of magic happened from 15:25 - 15:40
Is this synth discontinued?
I was looking at the J-80 as a possible Motif XF replacement until I saw that there is no sequencer... :-( Oh well...
+looneyburgmusic Really? Sometimes it is the best to say nothing instead of embarrassing yourself.
petara45 That makes no sense at all...
Oh yes it makes. The JP80 is not a workstation and it is more than clearly stated that it doesn't have a sequencer.
petara45 Which was why I didn't buy one. Without a built-in sequencer it is useless to me.
I bought the Jupiter 80 because it had more keys than another keyboard I was looking at. Just thought I'd side with you on the sharing of pointless information front....
This is a Jupiter 8 but also so much more and better. God bless ya Jupiter 80.
I hope youre trolling
Does a Roland Integra-7 have all the sounds that Jupiter 80 has?
think so
It may have many of the same Tones, but no Live Sets or Registrations. Integra’s normal mode of operation is the StudioSet, a 16 part multi mode, as found in a typical workstation synth.
Great!! But can I emulate this with an Integra 7?
littlebritain64 - not really, except at the tone level, and then you still have only half the JP-80s 256 note polyphony. Everything structure-wise above the Tone level is different in the two machines, so none of the 2300 4-tone Live Sets will be in the Integra7, or the registrations. Way better than SUPER knob.
I sold mine back in 2014. I'm a dickhead.
