    I bought one of these at Sweetwater a while back and have it sitting above my Kronos X88 to this day. This keyboard is capable of fantastic synth sounds and the keybed action is excellent.
    There are sounds in this thing that haven't even been implemented into a patch yet. Don't judge the sound or capability of this synth by this demo or listening to your 1 inch iMac speakers. LOL
    All the complainers about the name don't have a clue what they're doing with a synth anyway. Negative commenters are the tinkerers who use 2 fingers to upload how to make a beat videos.
    From what I've learned of this synth I'm looking to buy the 80 too. These are quality keyboards unlike the new JD X toys R US plastic series.

    I bought this keyboard recently, old stock, reduced price, to replace my D70. No complaints. Easy to programme. String and orchestral sounds are awesome, as are the acoustic sounds, accordion, trumpet, even pedal steel guitar. The Uileann Pipes are jaw dropping and I use them as bagpipes for Mull of Kintyre. A show stopper! Great Procul Harum Hammond sound as well with Leslie' effect. I frequently split and play bass with left hand, say for Jazz gigs, and the J50 is awesome, basses, piano and strings. Electric Pianos are wonderful. I don't do synthy sounds, so real synth players might be looking for something else with more nobs to twiddle? The J50 doesn't have after touch, but that's not too critical. There are 4 separate outputs, which for me is really useful, e.g. split bass to a bass amp. Split right hand to amp and PA. It's light too.

    I love Sweetwater Sound. I recently purchased online from them, (First time buyer), a product, and got a call instantly after submitting my payment, from a personal specialist, thanking me for buying from them. He then let me know if I would need any help when receiving the product to give him a call. He gave me his personal number. I received my product 2 days later, and I live several states away. I got my product along with an awesomely huge product catalog. Best online experience ever!

    I just bought one (Feb 2018) new at a bargain price because it was old stock from 2012. It is not a synth, and it is not a workstation, but it suits me well as I can get beautiful bass split, and really nice sounds on the right hand like layered piano and strings. The choirs, brass and woodwinds are awesome, as are the Uileann Pipes, accordions and harmonicas. Knockout! I considered a Nord (5 times dearer), but actually Roland were doing 30 years ago, what Nord is charging the earth for now, splits and layers and joysticks. The sounds are really nice and 'fat' great quality. It is only 11Kgs, so real easy on the ol' geezer! I don't use synth sounds myself, so couldn't care less about tweeking and building 'false' farting synth sounds from the 70s. I love the Pianos, Organs, Choirs, Strings, Brass and Guitar sounds. After all that, it's how you play that counts, the sounds are just the icing!

    I've owned quite a few rolands..still do. I have to say that I love the ergonomic way they set their instruments up. Makes for an easy work flow. However, even the supernatural modeling engine still doesnt sound as lush as the VAST engine in my Kurzweil. i think for this price point you can purchase a PC3 and give yourself the option to have all of that programming/ samplie power. The Kurzweils have a much larger learning curve.

    Roland keybords have their own 'character' sounds which are really great that stands them apart from other manufacturers. But, having to accept third party samples would have made them just awesome. This is the major limitation for Roland. They always cut some major features in each series of keyboards/synths which limits the potential of these wonderful instruments.

    Ed Diaz please help me. I need the Synth Editor APP or be able to download it and the Jupiter 80 sound patches. What attracted me to the Jupiter 50 was the fact that I would have IPad color screen and access to the Jupiter 80 sounds from what i remember reading in the manual as well as the other video promotion material. I’m now being placed between a rock and a hard place. I now feel like one that is being scammed by Roland and Apple. I bought my brand new Jupiter 50 cash here in Shanghai China, where I stay, over a year ago and had to save up to buy an IPad3 (ios 5 to 10) as the Synth Pad requires Ios 5 to Ios10 after incorrectly buying an Ipad5 (ios12) December 2018. I’m told that apple removed the Synth editor. Please help me retain my trust in the Roland Brand. Hoping to hear from you soon. THANK YOU

    I agree, the 80 sounds great. My only complaint about the 50 is the lack of aftertouch. Roland definitely made a poor decision to leave it out. For someone who gigs, the 80 look like a great choice though.

    @adawson2410g : Piano sounds far better than the Fantom G ones. You can't really appreciate them due sound quality loss in youtube. I own the Jupiter-80 and I can say that both piano sound and dynamic behaviour are excelent.

    it should be first a recreation of the Jupiter 8 and then a flamenco performance synth. People are looking for synthesizers not gig samples....I bought the Integra 7 and am not happy with the 80's recreation sounds of that 8 model.

      I kind of agree with that. On the other hand, the keyboard players using those sounds have to really understand how those instrument work to make something that will be playable naturally by double bass players, guitarists etc.

    Hello,
    How do I save my favorite sound into the bank?

  • @pipytuby6659
    @pipytuby6659 8 лет назад +14

    Bought one few years ago. The biggest waste of money in my life ($1,400).
    I decided to buy Roland because they replaced the LCD display of my old Juno-G for free and this Jupiter-50 is Made in Japan. Very disappointed. Supports sucks. Yes, there are sounds and lots of layering of supposedly Natural sounds but that's it. To try to use sound or manage the whole keyboard is impossible dued to dumbest logics and shortage of numeric keypad and missing shortcut. Let me give you some examples:
    1- There is no Rythm, No Drum or Metronome. The Tempo can be used only for Arpegio. Beat will not start when pressing Tempo because it is controlled by residing Arpegio clock. Therefore, 1st beat always delays. No way to synch with outside audio.
    2- Group of instruments are so poorly put together. Start with MANUAL to the Left then press a colorful group. Looking for subgroups have to press 2-3 different kinds of buttons or dials to the Mid-Right. Many times have to ENTER first. Then Right or Left Arrows (without labels). Same Arrows may be Sub-sub elements or may be Main groups. DECrease or INCrease sometimes same as Up & Down Arrows, sometimes NOT.
    3- Under the tomb of Main group of patches (Roland calls sounds and few more different terms), I discovered hidden chambers of many more patches of UNRELATED to Main but link to other group . And it is hard to go back and dig it because there is no consistent steps to follow.
    4- Some of the control buttons are to the left and I have to press some to the right. And this has to do with the biggest and dumbest in Design and Production: The BANK. There are 8 BANKS with 4 subgroup and with 4 patches under each subgroup (like [Set01] 1-4 to [Set01] 4-4, but this stupid keyboard has only 4 white lighted buttons that can choose only 1 to 4 of the sub-sub set. It will NOT activate [Set02], NOT [Set03] NOT all the way to [Set08] because if I press 3 then 2 it will do only [Set01] 3-2 and that's it! Out of 8x16=128 selections, I can directly do 4. Well, may be 16 but I have to go back and hit BANK first! There is No direct way to get to [Set02] 1-1 to [Set08] 4-4. Have to begin with BANK hit ENTER then Right or Left Arrow then Up or Down or DEC or INC or Dial. By the time I reach the perset I want, the time is GONE!
    5- All preset sounds that are supposed to be showcase sound so terrible (lowest taste in music). Output levels are not uniform, mostly too low. Took me a year (on/off) to try to standardize before gave up. I wanted to use for simple Arrangement but soon told myself "Forget about it". I put a blanket over it and went back to JUNO-G.

      I use it, but mostly cause I paid so much for it that I can't bear not struggling with its poor interface to get some sort of value from it. And thanks for the middle finger to Samsung owners with the Apple app. If you think I'm gonna buy an Apple so I can work through the retarded menus then you're off your rocker.

    • @jannetimonen1443
      @jannetimonen1443 5 лет назад

      Paid only €900 (second hand) for mine. Granted, rather cumbersome to adjust the sounds etc., but what I love about it: keys, e.piano sounds, some of the string and horn sounds, sound behaviour in general. There's metronome in REC mode, kinda goofy it can't be used outside of it (of that I know).

    What is sad is that it is called a synth, but honestly it is a music workstation. You can't create your own synth patches from raw waveforms no deep control over the envelopes. If only Roland make real synthesizers again not music workstations.

    • @XHALE303
      @XHALE303 8 лет назад +1

      @ Europa's Ocean1 The definition of a workstation is the ability to built your own trax with 1 device,
      without a sequencer its just another synth/keyboard

    • @tuneunleashed
      @tuneunleashed 6 лет назад

      You’re dumb it is clearly a performance synth

    • @floridahiker1503
      @floridahiker1503 5 лет назад

      It's designed for performance and doesn't have a knob for each parameter like the system 8 or gaia sh-01. You create and save new synth sounds on the synth edit screen. You have complete control over selection of oscillators, Lfo, filter and amp envelopes, pitch, unison, portamento etc,etc. Ed was just explaining the performance parameters. Same on the Juno ds synthesizers you also have full editing and saving of synthesizer parameters in the patch edit screen.

    Ok, once again for you:
    I'm not complaining about the fact that it is a scaled down version but about the fact that you get a half backed editor which is iOS only. Do you get it? It has nothing to do with being a scaled down version. Everybody has a computer but not an iPad and especially not a few interfaces laying around.
    BTW, I don't own the jp50 but the jp80. I wouldn't touch that piece of crap even with a stick for that money. Just take a look at the ridiculous patch selection. What a fail.

    A very poor choice of names for a synth that has nothing in common with the Jupiter legacy. Roland should have named this fake Jupiter the "Juno-Xi" or "Juno-Zi", which would have been more appropriate.

      Before 1987 the Junos had dco oscillators and the Jupiter synthesizers had vco oscillators. Since the d50 in 1987 it's basically been pcm sounds with a confusing naming system. The only bad thing is dco and vco oscillators die.
