- In this video I demonstrate some of the single-mode patches (by category) on the Roland Jupiter-80 synthesizer:
01:47 Piano
05:20 Electric Piano
07:36 Clavinet
08:41 Combo Organ
10:45 Pipe Organ
12:28 Theater Organ
14:01 Guitar
15:49 Bass
17:57 Pads
19:59 Choirs
20:44 Strings
21:33 Syn Strings
22:24 Brass
23:18 Syn Brass
25:26 Woodwinds
26:03 Syn Lead
26:43 Vibes / Marimba
27:07 Accordion
27:41 Violin / Strings
29:18 Trumpet
30:18 Saxophone
30:49 Flute
The joy of this is that you're a human library of genres. You switch with the patches with ease!
And the JP-80 is underrated / misunderstood for sure.
Alex, thank you!
Some people wanted it to replace the Fantom G, but it's studio/ stage synthesizer, not workstation. They did not accepted it because at the price of a workstation, they wanted a workstation. But now as it it out of stock and production ceased, Jupiter-80 will cost more.
Alex Żerdecki the INTEGRA-7’s have all of the Jupiter 80 sounds in it though...just a different user interface
@@SynthManiaDotCom are the strings at 21:14 created from a sample?
@@truthmanifestingtruth and half the polyphony..
The single sounds on the JP-80 are a subset of what you get on the Integra-7. They're excellent, but the real strength of the JP-80 is its ability to layer them in a way that the Integra (and most other instruments) can't do. The JP-80 never got accepted the way it should have been because people wanted the JP-80 to be a re-released JP-8 with analog sounds and lots of knobs. It does analog emulation brilliantly, but it's not a JP-8 or Moog One (and was never intended to be this). As a super-fat pad synth, it's unbeatable.
Nice demo anyway. Thanks.
geoffk777 Yeah, the only thing Roland did wrong with this board, was the name. Something like JD-2000 would had upset the ”analog purist lobby” less. Personally, I’d wish for a smaller form factor, like a ”FA-07”, but to keep all the controls and keybed.
now that I think about it, the JP80 has an empty area to the right, there is room for more controls. Still love the sounds mine makes though.
That's true--the whole panel is very uncrowded and there's a big space on the right and a smaller one on the left with nothing at all. I guess they figured that with the touchscreen, aftertouch and DBeam, you had all of the controls that you''d ever need. That's mostly true, but having a row of assignable knobs and faders like the Kronos, Montage and even RD-2000 have, would have been handy. Even so, you're right, it's a great-sounding board. I have one and I also love it (although the depth of it made squeezing it into the keyboard stand more challenging than I expected).
@@matszh I always thought it should have been called the Fantom Live. People would have just thought it was a great musician's keyboard then, which is what it is.
@@matszh I agree. "Jupiter" and "8" gave totally the wrong impression of the kind of product it was. I tried one in the store and it was clear within the first minute it's for preset players not synthesists. Having said that, its presets are actually usable and refreshingly lacking cheese as this demo shows.
I'm sorry, I love my Tyros 5, the Genos, and PA-4X, but this is the greatest synth EVER MADE!
Your fluidity with musical styles is amazing. Nice video!
Peter, thank you!
yohhhhh I am observing that as I watch
This replaced my D-70 .. the fact that it had 76 quality keys, was all metal, and sorta looked like my old Jupiter 8 is what sold me. Sounds are a dime a dozen these days with VST’s .. but a high quality solid as a rock 76 key controller is somewhat rare. My only gripe is Roland pulled the IOS app for it from the App Store .. that sucks as it is a very useful tool. Roland give us back the app!
I had this board bought for a band I played in for about two years. My requirements was for something that could be used by anyone, and borrowed from the original jp-8, you want brass, you just pressed brass etc. That's where it's closer to the original JP-8 than you think, and well deserved the Jupiter name. Back then, their intention was to mimick actual natural instruments, and why you had those instrument category direct access button. Only analog technology was available, so they had to add all the controls. On the 80, you have a touchscreen with a clear layout for synth edition, the same you find on the IPad app for the Integra-7, and on the SH-01. Owning a Gaia, I felt at home with it. For live performance, it's an incredible machine. It's got direct registration changes under the Keybed at your thumbs, jacks AND XLR outs which I used to feed MY aux returns, and I used it with an old RD-180 to play the Lower part, with all the Pianos, EP, Clavs, playing only the upper and solo parts on the JP itself. The only missing thing (as with the Integra-7 and the Fantom-G), is the inability to SYNC oscillators. But you can RINGMOD them. That's why I also used the GAIA as my third Keyboard which can SYNC)
I love my Jupiter-80, it's definitely an underrated synth. And the build quality is exceptional.
This synth will sky rocket in value one day I bet
You are an amazing pianist.
You forgot to mention he's an amazing pianist. His range of styles and the quality is awesome.
Uuh?
I'm always impressed. One of my favorite youtubers.
Thank you
@@SeazBreeze did you mention hat he is an amazing piano player?
Nice Playing!
This has to be one of the most versatile sounding keyboards ever released by any company. It sounds like a top VA synth to the classic vintage EP, clav and organ sounds and the acoustic sounds in all categories are fabulous! When this synth was on the market, alot of people weren't sure what to make of it as it wasn't a 21st century replacement for the original Roland classic, the Jupiter 8. The 1st version was also fairly complicated to get into although things improved with the major version 2 upgrade.
I agree. In fact when I tried it out near its release, I wasn't impressed. But around 2018-9, maybe because of newer sounds not thrilling me, (except the Montage) I got interested. I also thought it was 'its own beast' and also might become hard to find one day, so Reverb to the rescue! All I had to do was reseat a connector when it arrived. I just wish it were light enough to be my everything: take-it-around-town-to-gig synth. I'm too old; it's too heavy! Love it though. And love this Paolo guy! Great imagination; great accordion chops too.
I'm a gigging keyboardist myself and around your age Paulo, fantastic demo of this keyboard.Roland should use you to showcase their products.I recently started playing keys again with a band after nearly 20 years so I had to refamiliarise myself with what was available.I ended up buying two workstations:a Roland FA06 and a Yamaha MOXF06.Many of these sounds would be useful in a live situation but I think its your musicality and skill that really make this and other instruments you play shine, nice work love the other videos as well
Thanks so much - both the workstations you've got are very good. I plan to get a Montage 6 at some point, and a Kronos - they all have a different vibe, but all great synths.
Tweaking effect parameters, and cutoff/res will make it sound even better. I have the FA06 and it is an absolute beast, and it does integrate SN emulation which comes pretty close to the Jupiter's SN hardware. But, I do hear a quality difference between the 2. The Jupiter 80 in my opinion sounds a bit better (noticeably) than the FA06. But the Jupiter 80 lacks on all the other drum machines, pads, and workflow integrity. But this synth is my absolute favorite out of the 7 I currently own. I will never be able to let it go.
You truly are a versatile musician, bravo 👍🏻
Such an amazing talent on full display from a highly versatile & gifted player.
I honestly can't imagine anyone more worthy or deserving of owning such a collection of impressive gear.
Thank you for posting this Paolo.
Awesome demo and you're a fabulous demonstrator, not to mention a fabulous player!
Thank you!
Seems like a great machine for someone that plays for a living. Very versatile.
Also remember the SuperNatural (hate that name) sounds here are also found on the Integra 7 if you don't have room for the keys. The I7 is set up a bit different and doesn't have the same "stacks" as the JP80, but it does respond on all 16 MIDI channels. But the core single sounds are the same as the JP80, plus you get all the XV sounds and all the expansion cards.
You don't get the 256 voices though etc.
For those who might not have watched it, the awesome Key & Peele sketch I mention at 23:45 :-D --> ruclips.net/video/_ycih6B6iqM/видео.html
Most of those sounds are pretty nice, but I think I could listen to you playing for hours 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you
Well damn, didn't realize you were this versatile in genres. Nice demo of the awesome JP-80^^
Great demo. Always inspired an inspiring playing. You are the boss, Paolo.
Way too kind, thank you
That’s one AMAZING synth!
Paolo, your videos are always great. Huge Roland fan here so pleasure to hear this and the bonus is you are an amazing musician.
The cathedral reverb and theater organs are out of this world! 😲🌏
You was playing Riders On The Right hand and When The Musics Over on the left !!!! Class ❤️
I’m so happy you have one of these and you made time to make a lengthy video on it. Ive had this since they started shipping and I’m still intimidated of it today. You certainly know hot oatmeal this beast and you are just amazing artist. Thank you for your time you put into your channel.
Thanks for posting this amazingly comprehensive and eloquent demo of the iconic JP80. Very enjoyable real pleasure to watch !!! Thank you !!!
Many thanks!
Great video, is always a good pleasure hear you demonstrating gear possibilities. And with a little bit of 'Desafinado' on organ ! Greetings from Brazil
Obrigado and hello to the beautiful Brazil!
Jupiter 80 is a monster keyboard, but your skills complement the presentation very well! 👏👏👏
Awesome machine and keyboardist. I love the Jupiter 80 sounds. I come back to watch this video from time to time, love it...
Glad you enjoy it!
I really enjoyed you playing all those different styles of music. Beautiful.
You are a king of wizard of playing and a good teacher for understand this keyboard ! Thanks a lot ! Excuse my english because my first language is french from Québec my friend !
Wow, thanks! Glad it was helpful to you
Ciao Paolo - wow that is a great Demo of this extremely versatile & well sounding instrument, didn't know of it 'til today :-D - and another wow for your own versatility in genres according to the various instruments, kinda motivates me to practice some more this year B-)
What a great vid. A wonderful introduction to this very versatile Synth. Bravo.!!
Este jupter 80 é sem dúvida um super sintetizador, más é preciso saber editar ,progamar e ter muita habilidade e criatividade para tirar maravilhosas performance dele ,e você faz isso com excelência, meus parabéns por sua demonstração.
Excellent playing - thanks for giving the Jupiter some love. I use my JP-80 full time in my band - a keeper for sure. Also, I run it through the EHX Lester pedal for a killer Leslie sim.
You really should be the only person testing keyboards all over the internet. No one else surpasses you.
Waaay too kind, thank you -
Hello from France Paolo !
As always, very great video ; and awesome player you are ! Really fantastic to listen to you, whatever the style of music you play !
Thanks so much, hello back to France!
Unbelievable how talented you are!
That erhu sound transport me directly in ancient China !
The magic thing with you...you are able to give interest to any synth !
You're a great pedagogue Paolo !
Thanks!
very nicely done!
thank you Paolo...
Jill, thank you!
I saw the key & peele parody, yes it is the same vibe and a funny sketch. Thx for this pretty nice entertaining, i like your piano playing very well. Greetings from Germany.
Thank you
Your skills and repertoire are excellent...wish I could play like that. Definitely a wonderful and diverse sounding instrument
Thank you
the vox and string pad is such a nice sound
You got the best job in the world.
I wish this were my job, but I have a real (9-5) job. This is my passion / hobby / side hustle. Maybe in a few years...
Such amazing playing and mastery of genres !
I have some great synths but I think my Jupiter80 is the One I prefer with my Nord Electro6HP! Great sounds, easy to use and layering so rich. A very nice keybed also... i’ll keep it for years I think. Brilliant démo, congratulations.
Serious talent kind sir, enjoy your vids!
Thank you
Paolo, that was an amazing demo. I currently have a Montage 6 and looking for another board. How is the keybed on the JP80? I didn’t like the FA06 or VR09
The keybed is good
Very good demonstration on a super keyboard ;-)
Thank you!
Shame this board is discontinued i remember one of the original promo demos (still on youtube ) and the sound/layers were phenomenal
Awesome synth, awesome player. Greetings from Russia! And accordions is the best!
Wow! Very versatile! Im thinking 🤔 of getting a new keyboard think im sold! Thx! 👍
Awesome playing and demo. 👍
Thanks!
So, it basically does everything, except emulate an analog synth; such as - say - the Jupiter-8?
Yea just found one in pawnshop couple days ago hence why im watching vids on it
That Riders on the Storm bit made me smile. Damn man you can play the bejeezus out of a(n electric) piano. So many styles too. What is your background?
Thank you, I've just been playing for a long time ;)
Hi and thanks!! As the others say, great playing :) - I can't find some of those pianos you show, on my Jupiter-80: is that because I've replaced some of the original sounds with v.2.0 sounds and other edits I've made? - for example Ambient Piano, etc. Are they 'Live Sets'? - You said they're Single Sounds - so I go to the "Solo Field" and dial through the sounds, and can't find them in the Category Search under Pianos (or Pop Pianos) either - except for one Pop Piano, but that doesn't call itself Pop/Ballad Piano as yours is labeled. (confused.) Thanks for any advice.
Tommy, those piano patches were all the same piano, the only thing that I changed was the playing style - that patch is the first piano patch in memory when you're in single mode - IIRC it's called "Supernatural Piano"
@@SynthManiaDotCom - Thank you, now I understand :) Cool stuff. Ciao!
Complimenti Paolo fai volare le dita sulla tastiera. Questa macchina mi piace tantissimo.
Great demo. It's rubbish that Roland withdrew iOS app support for the Jupiter's editing app. I sold my original Jupiter 80 and deleted my iPad editing app three years ago. When I re-purchased a JP-80 last year, I didn't realised this inredibly-useful editing tool had been withdrawn because they simply wouldn't update it from 32-64bit.
Oxford Blue i still have it. If I could send you the program i would. It’s really helpful
If you previously owned it shouldn't it show up in previously downloaded apps through your apple store? I know old versions of my MAC OS X downloads still exist today even though they are from years ago. Worth a shot? I hope it is there for you
Hey Paolo, Great Video I love that Jupiter-80. That's one you should NEVER sale. That's a forever keyboard. Keep up the great work.
Don't plan to sell anytime soon ;)
Yup I will never sell mine ever
You are a heck of a pianist/musician. Chopin shout out.
Thanks, always loved that prelude of his in particular!
best of the best sound makers).
Paolo 👊🤘 grtz have the same and it rocks.
🤘🤘🤘
Great playing Paolo! Some lovely sounds out of that Jup-80. Nice bit of Joy Division snuck in there too :)
If anyone wants to see a restored Wurlitzer theater organ in action check out the Nathan Barr Creative Cribs video here on RUclips. It's quite a piece of engineering!
Thanks! Yes, I've seen that video and it's indeed amazing. Huge props to the guy for taking the massive steps required to keep that Wurlitzer going. His dedication to music is truly incredible.
These theatre organs sounds are great! I hope The Roland Cloud people add the JupiterJP-80 to its collection ASAP!
Thanks for the demo Paolo. Didn't know how wonderful this Roland sounded. . .
Very welcome!
May Yahweh bless you and stay blessed thanks for the video!!!!!!
Thank you too
You're a talented clinician, too, dear Paolo! Auguri. :)
Terrific machine at a terrible prize for my pocket hahaha....
Thanks!
Hi Paolo,
Thanks for your great videos.
Quick question. How would you compare the overall feeling between the j-80 and the yamaha montage/modx? Particularly in the acoustic sounds.
Cheers.
I plan to get the Montage fairly soon and do a comparison
@@SynthManiaDotCom Looking forward to watch this. Thanks a lot.

Tu sei la stella, tu sei l'amore…….🎼😎
Hello,...great demo of this wonderful instrument, which covers a huge area. Unfortunately I don't have any space left, not even for the smaller version. Nice memory at 23.00 to 25.00 from miami vice scene.
greetings
Thank you very much - you might consider the rack version, Integra 7 (which also has all the SRX expansion boards built-in as a bonus)
Hi! Great video and you play very cool man!!! I want to ask you for a classic 80's synth sound used in Tell It Like It Is - Don Johnson (Yeah! Miami Vice too😂😂😂)that sound emule the 50's piano quaver style in that Song. Could you know The sound name? Thank you.
French Accordion ! Inspired me to make a cheese souffle tonight! Thanks & yummy!
Where can I purchase one they seem it be not available anymore to be purchased.
Yes, unfortunately they are discontinued, but there are several used ones for sale on eBay and Reverb
That organ is sweet!
Atmosphere 👌
;-D
Ottima demo! 💯
Lovely.. Fabulous playing ..
Thank you
ha that was fantastic, and great to see what this mother of a synth can do
Giles, thank you
Amazing. I need a full synth band using this as the lead guitar and everything else!
The JP-80 was my first ‘synth’ after a 25-year hiatus, and at first I loved it. Meanwhile however, I have replaced it by a MODX7, which is superior in any respect except the keybed (no aftertouch).
Too bad they discontinued the Jupiter 80 Love your keyboard playing! You are an amazing versatile player! I play guitar but I'm still fascinated with the keyboards bought a midi but now I can see that something like the Jupiter 80 is a must have! I'm glad I came across you on the Tube!
We could have used you in the keyboard department when I worked at Jim’s Music Center 😬👍
Brilliant demo and I love the stuff you choose to play each patch. As I can't get a Jupiter 80 is there a modern Roland synth which can do the same kind of thing?
If you already have a MIDI enabled keyboard then the integra 7 has all the same sounds.
what kinda drum/percussion sounds are on the jupiter?
Could you do a video on editing effects like Chep Nunez, Latin Rascals and Omar Santana? I'm not sure whether they used just multitrack tape or ventured into using samplers but I guess you could recreate it using samplers?
Do you have a specific piece of music in particular?
@@SynthManiaDotCom For instance Latin Rascals - Don´t let me be Missunderstood (All Star Editz) cheers
OH NO... Paulo is venturing over to the dark side.. DIGITAL.... the end of the world is near folks!!!! Now I expect used Jupiter 80 keyboards to bump up a few hundred dollars on Ebay after this video. Paulo...a man of many musical styles...
It's about time that I start showing synths made after 1986 :^D ! Thank you
Awesome Demo Paolo!. Can you show how to make a typicall disco fall string on JP80, also, does this synth have a jazz flute?
Thank you, yes, I actually plan to do a video on recreating the typical Disco sounds - yes, it has lots of types of flute
Thanks for the answer ;-) Have a nice day my friend!
Beautiful machine!
What is the name of the piece played at 12:59 ? It's super sweet!
Thank you, I'm improvising.
i like the vox and string pad a touch of the jan hammer miami vice of the 80s love that series
Had no Idea the jupiter 8 was that good!
The piano/guitar+pad patches sounds wonderful. Also really loving that Bright Bass patch. (Synth basses on the other hand were very meh to my ears. Really flat sounding.)
hi... can record on usb flash memory also ?
I have a 50 (my second one - I'd stupidly sold the first after two years). I think the 80 is a bit OTT, personally. One 'live set' (four 3-osc tones) and two additional tones are more than enough for most applications. My only gripes with the 50 are the lack of aftertouch on the keyboard and the fact that aftertouch-over-MIDI cannot be assigned to pitch LFO depth (I think the latter problem also affects the 80). The modulation routings are a also rather basic on both models but the Jupiters sound great nonetheless.
Well done
Jupiter 80 is best or new roland fantom 6
You are awesome!
Thanks!
Hi Paolo, I'm now a the proud owner of a shiny new bass guitar. Will your channel be showing any bass videos ? I'm sure what ever magic you sprinkle on your instruments will make it sound out of this world. Thanks
For sure - bass is my second instrument, I have many videos with electric bass in them
@@SynthManiaDotCom
I've been trying to figure out what's different about your last 2 videos. I now see you have changed your filming angles to be front facing to yourself. Looks good.
So Roland's reissue of the 808 is called the 8, and their reissue of the Jupiter-8 is called the 80.
Had me rolling haha
Yes good demo
Thank you
You should run that through a Sherman Filterbank, a Big Muff Pi and and Roland Space Echo. The Leslie speaker never sounds right on these type of workstations to me. I've never heard one that can emulate that. That's the Holy Grail, well that and a CS 80 clone that is 200 bucks and stays in tune. Come on Behringer! I've already decided I want that Crave with the Prophet 5 chip and Mood filter.
Think i know what ye mean, my vsynth has that kind of very digital plasticy sound which im not crazy about.
