10:02 That CP70 is what Billy Joel famously flipped upside down on stage in Moscow back in the 80's in a fit of frustration. Keane also records and plays with one.
This must have been like heaven. Perhaps they can use my 30 year old Yamaha W7; one of the first workstations with great sounds, aftertouch and a very good sequencer. Now I use the MODX but I miss a good sequencer. I hope Yamaha will ever bring it back in one of their newest synthesizers.
The EX5 also has physical modelling, and the Shakuhachi is wicked! I had the CS 40, CS 60, CP 80 (still got it), the Motif, etc. What, no TG 33 with vector synth? What a trip down memory lane!
Having worked on a lot of these in the 90s (Yamaha R&D London) it brings back very happy memories. The AN/EX etc, all were ground-breaking and remarkable synths to be a part of. Great video
The FS1R was the final badass FM synth Yamaha made, 15 years after the DX7. It was the only 8-operator synth (until the FM-X engine in the MODX/Montage in 2016 I think?), but it wasn't just FM. It was specifically designed to make interesting voice-like sounds with Formant Shaping. It's the most unique FM synth Yamaha ever made. It's hard to program, but they have a great programmer for it here. If he had just scrolled through a few patches it would've been the most interesting part of the video. But this guy never heard of the FS1R until the day they shot the video. And he's excited to make a kick drum noise with it. Nice. Oh but don't worry there's a CS-80 in the corner Matt's gonna blow you away with Blade Runner vibes. Just kidding these guys love EPs! They're not nerds like the people watching this video.
😂 thx.. this is the FS1R Controller of R. Skerjanc. I stopped breathing for a moment to see someone else going deep with the controller.. ok 1 knob.. tweaking 😂.. I am currently on my 4th Year of exploring the possibilities of this Controller and understanding the FS1R in depth .. no grounding in sight yet.. deep
The SY-85 was my first synth in the 90s....Followed by more....uh, many more!!....Damn you, yamaha, for making such fantastic gear 🙂....Dom's smile at 3:29 says it all!
Just hooked up my kinda broken SY99 (fx is scratchy, AWM doesnt work) to the fx section of my kinda broken A4000. Wonky setup, but sounds gorgeous! Nice seeing a SY99 so well preserved, shame they didnt play it.
Deberian volver a fabricar el Cs80 y Cp70/80 . Todo mundo los quiere y ademas en cuanto a las partes mecanicas del cp se conseguirian repuestos por los viejos instrumentos
Wow, the VP-1. I'm going crazy. Is this Reinhold Heil's device? I still wonder to this day why Chick Corea didn't own or play a VP-1. The board would have been ideal for someone like him who could play solos like no other. Especially since Corea was the best-known Yamaha endorser.
Just realized that I have or have had at least nine of the synths/keyboards they have in this room. I also have three Yamaha guitars. I guess, I am a Yammy fan boy ;-)
Same here, all my electric guitars apart from my acoustic are Yamaha (RGX and Pacifica). All my keyboard and rack synths apart from some MIDI and audio interfaces are Yamaha. Tons of other Yamaha stuff in my studio. They just make the best music gear IMHO.
I would LOVE for Yamaha to follow the lead from Roland and release of their masterpiece synth from the past as AU/VST plugin… I mean EX5R, FS1R, SY77, SY22, SY99, Motif, DX7, VL1, you name it… then just make a huge bundle (like NI Komplete) with all plugins, drum machine, effects, and a new “workstation host” (like Roland Galaxias) that would be control by a Yamaha Workstation controller (think something like the Montage MX but with no sounds, just the controls like NI Komplete Keyboard S61 mk3 or Akai MPC Keys). They could release the Yamaha Complete Bundle for $990, the Workstation Controller for $990… and you would end up spending 2 grands to get all the best Yamaha sounds running in your favorite DAW and directly controlled and fully integrated with a real workstation controller keyboard…. I would buy that. PS: By doing so, you could still buy a M4 MacMini (or Intel NUC) and plug it as a “dongle” to your Yamaha Workstation Controller Keyboard, and you would have a full workstation, running all your favorite plugins with the power of a computer (so 100 times better than what we got in our Motif, Montage and such). No more dedicated hardware that cost a fortune to develop… use the power of modern computing but still have it fully embedded in your Workstation host application with your AU/VST plugin. It works just great for Roland with Galaxias, and they don’t even have the Controller Keyboard (yet). Mark my words..
Personally, taking away the analogs, the SY99 and the Motif ES are the best in that room (I have both). The basic Motif sounds much warmer and has more presence than the 3000k Montage 😂
It is digital in the same sense as your calculator or you watch is digital. But the algorithms used to get to the sound are fairly different from FM, virtual analog, romplers or granular synths which all are digital too. Back in the days of the 90’s it consumed so much CPU most physical modelling synths had only one or a few voices. Back then Yamaha did it, Korg as well with their Prophecy and the MOSS board , and Technics somehow too with their SWA1 synth, if I recall the name correctly
The VP1 was cool. Developed around the same time as the VP1 it was string based physical modeling and polyphonic. Poly AT keybed. Probably less than 2 dozen made, all basically by hand. Way too expensive to become a production item (would have cost tens of thousands of 1994 dollars). Those that made it to the U.S were recalled by Yamaha and crushed because the power supplies were not U.S. legal.
amazing synths plus i love both the musicians! but this format is a bit awkward - feels a tad forced tbh 😅 on the other hand - i wouldn't have any idea what else to do to showcase a synth museum in 2 people, so can't really criticise 😀
Two of the coolest synth Catz in the game! Thank you Yamaha🌊✨🌊
Yamaha SY77 & SY99 are one of the top of the line AFM (Advanced FM) synthesizers of the time. Too bad you skipped them :D
I love it when they get people who can actually play to demonstrate the synths!
Seeing Matt in a place like this is so cool
Thank you guys for that exploration!!🙏
10:02 That CP70 is what Billy Joel famously flipped upside down on stage in Moscow back in the 80's in a fit of frustration. Keane also records and plays with one.
So sorry about what happened to you, Scott. Hoping things clear, you have a great channel 🙂
What a studio! You guy's are iconic, I would love a day in there just to listen to you jamming and trying Everything 😂 ❤
Nice to see you two guys together!
I only came here because I love all things Yamaha ❤❤
Damn, what a cool room full of goodies!

The best! Thanks! Please 10 more hours, rainy day here

AN1X sounded AWESOME

People don't realize how cool the AN1x is.

Nice! ❤
Extraordinarios productos de YAMAHA.
TODO UN LEGADO DE ALTA CALIDAD.

Nice …but i missed the CS-30! Thats a fantastic and unique analog Mono-Synth.
epic. I am ready for part two;-) or I'll just come over, which I´d prefer.
You skipped over the SY's! 😥
never bought into the Roland craze but Yamaha? Yes!
9:07 Peter Howel Doctor Who intro stab 😍
I would love to visit there in the near future.
The DX5 is on my grail list ❤️
I had a chance to buy an SY99 pretty much new and I had to pass.. Always regretted it.
Love the crossover!!
Just hooked up my kinda broken SY99 (fx is scratchy, AWM doesnt work) to the fx section of my kinda broken A4000. Wonky setup, but sounds gorgeous! Nice seeing a SY99 so well preserved, shame they didnt play it.
Cool video 🎹🎹
Please we need an APP Editor for the SY Synthesizers please please, please
Compatible with the entire SY range too would be nice, e.g. SY55 / TG55
Anybody know the synth at 11:54?
Excellent!
Mega Dankeschön das ikk mag wünsche mir das mal spielen zu dürfen ❤l

Have a happy new year Yamaha Synths Official
Dito ❤danke 🎉❤❤❤
Bello/Magnifico.🙏✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️👑
I dig Yamaha a lot
What a shame, just 15 minutes with two of the best synth demo players out there.
I just hope these two guys make more demos of Yamaha classics.
You're missing so many classics in that setup, but great to see
Cool place and cool video. Should have spent more time at the EX5. The pad didn’t do justice to its abilities.
it's cool ❤
Come on Yamaha !!!! 15min it’s not enough please have mercy 😢
When not even the manufacturer has a DX1 😁 and on that note the CS-80 is almost too much for my mind anyway 👍 Great video, thanks 🙏
They have dtronics stuff? Didn't expect that. Also hiw can you breeze passed that fs1r controller haha. Heaven
Top
max entertainment. thanks!
Yes i’m definitely keeping my an1x. 😂

So they are coming with new synths at Namm/Superbooth

Could we have the names of the synths on the screen please - would be educational.
they seem like nice chaps!

Yamaha. Please. A Reface Motif.

Physical Modeling means digital, right?

Need a GX1 to really be komplete!
😍
Сделайте настольный мультитембральный модуль с современными ритмами и современными звуками, сколько можно выпускать старьё?

No DX7 🤔
the DX7 is right above the DX5 in the first 50 seconds.
Wonderful stuff there guys. But I think thats the wrong style of music to play on a CP70. Its for a more laid back style imo
I thought I was about Space SYNTH music :(
🥰👍❤👍🥰
Recently sold my mint SY77 and SY99 to buy my motorhome LOL!!
So you have swapped an AW2 FM engine for a diesel engine? Not sure if that is an upgrade or downgrade lol. Haha! Hope its worked out for you though.
😂❤Gehirn 😂🎉❤777amen Ohren aber auch alles Liebe habt ein Herz 🎉❤und Hände brauchst och 😅einfach nur Wunderland mega ♥️ 🎉😂
Yamaha got mad now days it's produce BULKY AND HEAVY KEYBOARD
To think that some poor guy has to work in that room every day.
amazing synths plus i love both the musicians! but this format is a bit awkward - feels a tad forced tbh 😅 on the other hand - i wouldn't have any idea what else to do to showcase a synth museum in 2 people, so can't really criticise 😀
EXACTLY the synths I dont want to play with.
Exepte the analogue stuff
Well, that felt like a slightly awkward pairing. Next up, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump take you on a trip around the Genos2.
Love Matt, but the dude with a tale is just ridiculous
I tend to avoid the tail man's videos if I can.
Being a true Yamaha synth fan, it is very weird for me to say that this is an absolutely boring video. I'm serious.
