Amen to that - he's one of the guitarists who's work inspired me to take it up, and I was shocked when I heard about his collapse, but from what I hear he's on the mend so all the best MJ! Possibly the most criminally unknown guitarists to have ever lived.
@santiano42 - I couldn't agree with you more! I love all the various incarnations of Runrig, & I've been a huge fan of theirs right from the start. They've had two incredible lead singers in their many decades of playing fantastic music. What more can anyone want? I agree with you: RUNRIG GU BRATH!!!!
Bruce has done well for Runrig. Donnie has moved on and will always be very special. The band is still going and that is all that matters. Scotland-Nova Scotia....one people, one heart, our beautiful mother..Scotland. In the years to come Scotland will need all her sons and daughters wether they be Scots Canadians, Scots Americans or wherever they hail from. Runrig will go on and so will our beloved Scotland.
My great grandmother was from Tranent. I traveled to Europe in 2000 and fell in love with Scotland when the train crossed Into Scotland! I wept inexplicably the first time I heard them sing Loch Lomond; it took some time to composed my self! 🥰
Me too! I hope they are as good as they seem, 'cause I'll make quite a trip from Eastern Europe just to see them! Love their music! My favorite band in the world!
@jillipepper5353 Well said ,i am from Strathpeffer,Ross-Shire,Scotland but have emigrated to Alberta. What i read and know about the maritimes is that the culture that crossed the ocean is equal or arguably stronger than that of Bonnie Scotlands,Bruce was what kept Runrig going ,another wise decision in this truly great gaelic rock band
Aye! If you'll allow an American lass's humble opinion, Rory's voice is brilliant, as well. What would Runrig be without the MacDonald brothers? Love this bonnie band! Thanks for posting.
@santiano42 Well said!!! Donnie was. . . . what Donnie was!!!! I absolutely love Bruce, he has brought a new dimension to the band. . .and I absolutely love him as a solo artist. So long live the worlds best band. . .who have the greatest fans in the world x xxx x x Long live RUNRIG !!!! :)
Well said !!! Bruce is NOW the voice of Runrig. .. . I personally wouldn't love them , as much as I do, if Donnie was the lead singer !!! He was TOO 80's for me. ( Sorry to the Die hards!!! x x ) I'm a folkie , through and through, and Bruces' voice is so beautiful. . .I've got all his solo CD's. . .a truly gifted talent!!!! Are you going to Black Isle ? Would like to meet up if you are ?? !!:)
He once was talking to this lad in this bar where runrig were staying before the start of a tour, got talking to him the bar in the hotel closed and this lad asked bruce if he'd join him in going through his mini bar lol, to which bruce actually turned up. Unknown to this lad and Bruce actually the lad didn't realise Bruce was the lead singer for Runrig the very band this lad was going to see lol!!! Genuine thing that, he's incredibly honest is bruce, love the stories he says with them haha!!!
Right, and being from Nova Scotia is miles (literally and figuratively) from being a "yank" anyway. Atlantic Canada really has a strong and direct lineage right back to the Celtic lands. That IS Bruce's accent!
Means literally New Scotland in Latin, their flags an inverted of the Scottish flag, so is a white flag with a blue X with the Royal Standard of Scotland (Lion Rampant, Latin symbol for royalty is the Lion) though as a shield in the middle and its f'ing epic!!!
Nova Scotia is New Scotland because it was named so by Scots who came here so long ago. The land in Cape Breton ( where Bruce is from) looks just like Scotland so I guess that's why they named it so. The old language and music still thrives and there is a Gallic college that teaches the language, the bagpipes and fiddle etc. You can buy nearly every tartan in their shop and they make kilts to order. So Scotland is very much alive in the people of Nova Scotia.
Great place never been but yeah sounds incredible! I mean it's probably because of the Highland Clearances (what dance called america's all about) as to why they moved there but yeah, it's probably due to the way it looks is why they chose to move there, seen photos of it.
@bemmyscot I'm gonna go one better than you, sweetheart. . . .I'm gonna have this song played at my funeral !! LOL . It's my favourite song ever. . .played by my favourite band ever. . . .last laugh will be by me. . . hope the priest doesn't mind ha ha :)
Just can't take this band seriously anymore. Bruce's accent really palls - a bit like Kevin Costner's in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, a yank in Sherwood.
Love Runrig!
Love the Highlands & Islands! Thank you. My ashes should be scattered there on the beach of Naver Bay.
Amen to that - he's one of the guitarists who's work inspired me to take it up, and I was shocked when I heard about his collapse, but from what I hear he's on the mend so all the best MJ! Possibly the most criminally unknown guitarists to have ever lived.

Love the pan pipe sound at the start and during the main riff.

Bruce when he gets talking is hilarious! Great lad too!!!

Ranric fehlt mir
really poor sound quality on the video.
That's because he's not Scottish! It's not like he's trying to do a 'fake' Scottish accent. Get over the Bruce vs Donnie thing.
