Well I started listening to them 40 years ago, when I was in the Royal Navy. They always took me home, where ever I was in the World. I never got the chance to see them live, but I think I've got most of their albums. When I heard it was the end, I was gutted and tried to find a ticket for Edinburgh, but they''re all gone. I live in Wales now, but I would have taken the high road to see them, even though money is tight. They are the Best Scottish Band of all time in my teary eyes. The album captures everything so well and hats off to Brian as he's captured this so well and of course praise all round to everyone. Perhaps I will just have to take the memories of listening to my grave and accept that sometimes, some dreams never get realised. I'll miss you Runrig!!! Thanks for the memories and the Journey.
+Robert Alexander I also tried to get tickets for Edinburgh and couldn't but they are doing a concert at shepards bush and there's still tickets for that. 21st July
+Hazel Hoerz Thanks Hazel. I saw that now. I'm going to see if my Daughter will come with me. Find out at the weekend. Otherwise may just get there myself. Appreciate that. Is this their last ever tour?
@@robertalexander5959 saw them least probably 10 times live after Donnie left never got to see him though have seen even been upwards from where Donnie lives in Portree Skye (amazing place that!) but yea due to ill health never saw the last tour my dad cant watch them anymore, I like to though :D Haha having even a friend whos Norrie MacIver as a friend on FB's amazing haha great lad him even Calum made a great review of him whos the lead man for Skipinnish now, descendant me of Clan Bruce as well the thing I love to bits! It's with profound sadness that I let everyone know that Canadian singer Bruce Guthro from Scottish band RUNRIG has passed away after his Battle with Cancer Sept 6 - 2023
The perfect way to end things. They've given so much listening pleasure over forty years. All good things must come to an end. They are going out on the high note instead of fading away. I think the video does indeed tell the story. They didn't sell out and stuck true to their roots. That's how they should be remembered. There is, and no other band like them. But we have the songs and in them they will live on. Thank you Runrig for the pleasure.
OMG I am so homesick!! I miss the going to the ballroom with my gran and grandad to dance to the three different bands, to the playing of Auld Lang Syne and then Goodnight Irene and then we would all walk home with uncle Walter nd auntie JEan and go First Footing on the way home..........my uncle made sure he'd half crowns and fruit cake in his pocket to get the wee dram!! No the same world today is it?
My first wife turned me onto Runrig back in the early 80s. Been following them every since. I introduced my current wife to Runrig in 2000. When she found they were doing their last concert on her birthday, she was determined we would be in Stirling for it. It was a long flight from California to Scotland, but it was coming home and so worth it. Runrig lives on.
I grew up visiting close family friends from Fife in the summer of the 70's & 80's, and spent several years in the 90’s living in the remote Shetland Islands. My first 'serious' girlfriend, and good friend today introduce me to Runrig in the mid-80's and I have been hooked ever since. While I cannot speak Gaelic I can sing along with most of their Gaelic tracks. It was with so much sadness I that I heard this would be their last ever album; it is like dealing with a close relative diagnosed with a terminal illness. No matter how hard you try, you cannot wish it away. “The Story” is classic Runrig through & through. They know exactly how to play to your heart strings and stir up emotions, locked deeply away; some, in my case, for many years. Malcolm Jones on electric guitar, Iain Bayne with the drum beat, the lyrics, with Rory singing his heart out; I have to work hard not to break out in tears. For myself, I just replace ‘Hebrides’ with ‘Fife’ or ‘Shetland, and it could almost be me in the video. While I cannot wait till January for the album to become available. I am still in denial that after 40+ years the guys want to call it quits. But you cannot begrudge them some time off with family.
I was lucky enough to travel to Isle of Lewis in May 2024, and our guide Derek or 'Pluto' as he is know around, recommeded this song. Since then this song has become a part of my life, reminds the beautiful experience i had in the hebrides, and just brings a smile , sometimes a tear. Hope to one day go back to the hebrides for another tour.
The Story is one of the best songs Runrig produced. Such a shame the band ended after such a long time together. 🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
Singly the most underrated band in the world for me, seen them so many times over the years, have everything they've recorded, have met them, interviewed Calum, a brilliant bunch of guys who'll be sorely missed in my house once they stop performing.
I cried when i heard they were not going to release any new cd's after this one. I have been listening to Runrig since i was about 4 years old! ( .. now 30..) they have been a huge part of our lives, they will never know how much.. made it my mission to go and see them in February when they were close enough to us! for mine and hubbies anniversary! And we went thanks to family helping to baby sit. Not quite sure how i didn't cry my heart out knowing its possibly the last time.
I may be an Incomer, but this song brings a tear to my eye every time. My blood runs Saltire blue...thank you, Runrig, for your music and for stirring the blood of my ancestors in me here in Scotland...
Listening and watching this yet again, it's brilliant. The songwriting, the performance of the band. And this video. In an age when music videos are stupid, overly contrived in an attempt to be different...this one is creative, sophisticated, romantic, sensitive, amazing.
Went to Glasgow Cross to seethe shop when I was home...and the outer hebrides. I see why so many songs are sung about the islands ...they are incredible
I love this song and band. Been listening to the variety here. In the US had never heard this wonderful music before. A British friend just shared this with me. I'm old, I can identify. ❤
Rory's voice is just one of those voices i would never tire of hearing and runrigs music is just a class of its own ill be a massive fan of their forever
Aw what a finish-- took me right back home from North America-- was in tears from the start. A fitting, lovely way to go out. Thanks for all the years of the music, the live shows, the programmes on telly at the New Year. Tapadh leat a Beannachd Dia dhuit.
I remember racing home from my offshore job in Germany to tell my grandma the new album had been released. Id been listening ot them since i was just a young boy with her, and at 37 now i still listen to Runrig Daily. I new this was the final album, the song titles and temprement of songs, i felt it. In 2019 my grandma passed away and we played this at her funeral. Ill listen to this when i need to feel close to her. Grandmas truly are a blessing.
I cannot wait to sing this from the top of Eval on my next wander thrugh the Hebrides. The humanity, honesty and atmospheric quality of the boys music will never die for this 70 year old incomer. And well done Brian, silenced a few cynics!
Great Video, great islands, beautiful girls, great music. Well done Rory.. I was never lucky enough to attend your concerts, but will always watch the videos, whoever was the best Donny, the Cutter and yourself. Your lead guitar man was extremely talented and really made the group as you all did, Happy retirement to you all. Thanks for all that entertainment. Best Wishes to you all.
Just hearing the song on the radio last night brought a tear to my eyes but seeing the video today ............. It is so moving and the words are so beautiful. Another fantastic song from our Boys and I can't wait for the whole CD and the tour in February.
Love this song. From that very first high opening vocal note by Rory Macdonald, it had me. The song just soars. The tempo changes and constant building; Rory's heartfelt and haunting vocals; it just sweeps you in and along. Just like the opening sentence in an exquisite Story. And really like how the video ends with the "older man" suspended in air in the "early years".
I got hooked on Runrig back in 1992 or so as a scout that traveled to Scotland for a camp. Unfortunately it's difficult to follow Runrig over here in the US so I'm just now discovering this song, and man... it's a great one. And the video is amazing.
Gorgeous! Feels like the end on an era, can't believe this will be the last studio album. Their music has been inspiring me since I was a young teen and this album is no exception.
For those who have seen Runrig - count your blessings from an Australian fan who loves them. Have begun listening to their new CD but loving the song / video "The Story". Boys, come to Oz!
This Song Brought A tear to my eye, Just a fantastic song, so sad about it being the last album, but this song just hits you. When you have followed this band for so many years, It just takes me back in time with the band and the memories I have, please don't stop touring boys, and well done you should be proud of what you have achieved see you in aberdeen
Such a shame but it's fair enough they had to end :( Will however be Rory's 70th by the 27th July next year it's amazing what he and his brother have done and Malc to a massive extent! Big time supporter of Runrig though English born (why I use the Scots flag as well I think its beautiful personally speaking anyway) but have huge Scottish and relatively recent ancestry and really love it to bits, without them wouldn't have had such an interest and can thoroughly say been a constant fan of theirs since I started and if it had been back in the days of Donnie I'd have probably from then on but never got into them until Bruce started, never even heard of them to be blunt! Wouldn't have had it any other way apart from maybe seeing them pre Bruce but hey whatever!
As far as I see it they did what they intended to do and far beyond as well and wishing Calum and Rory a very happy retirement in proper Scots speak (English more lol) aye they fucking deserve it! Don't get why the word fuck has to be a horrible or negative word it doesnt and I mean that too what I just said above!

I love this. I was very fortunate to be at the Hogmanay Festival on New Year's Eve 1996 when Runrig headlined. One of the best, most memorable, coldest, snowiest nights of my life -- I will never forget how awesome it felt to sing "Auld Lang Syne" along with Runrig. It's sad that "The Story" is their last album, but knowing when to call it a day is a mark of maturity. Well done, gentlemen.
Love the song it has such a great sound! will look forward to the last Album and makes it even more important to go to their concert near us in Feb! Think i could cry at the thought of no more.. having grown up with their songs. They are a huge part of my life.

+Aubbie Melancholy That's great! I have made so many Gaelic-speaking Canadian friends over the years! You do know that Canadians speak a particularly pure form of Gaelic, don't you? It's really like you never left!
I love the ending to this as it seems to nod to the fact that the Highlanders were shuned when they first came to the central belt of there own country now us lowlanders embrace them and appreciate there language and culture well done runrig as you have opened the eyes of the world
It's unbelievable that Runrig has produced 13 albums previous to this and yet still can make such a fantastic new song! It's sad this will be the last studio album as I've followed them all my life, hopefully the touring goes on and on though :) too young to retire yet surely ;)
The story, what a magnificent title. I nevertheless have never listened of RUNRIG to a new song with such deep sadness in the heart. It exactly so to know that this is the beginning of the end of the long wonderful musical way of an excellent band as if one had to watch his best friend dying slowly. We see each other in Berlin in November 2016.
amazing song! and love that it was produced by the youngest member of the band...i think Brian Hurren has nailed it and if the rest of the album is on par Runrig will have a new lease of life...its amazing how he captured the Runrig sound but brought it up to date...amazing and brilliant...Runrig should be gald they managed to unearth a talent like Brian Hurren
+Paul McCaffery I agree, Brian is a hugely talented musician, I love his style and I hope that although this may be Runrig's last story to tell, that there is a sequel and Runrig will live on in the music of Brian. Runrig Forever!!
Yes I have 'A Hundred Thousand Welcomes' Great album! Shows there is great talent out there, but what a huge shame that artists like Brian barely get noticed amongst the same old crap that radio stations churn out these days.
+wessexmatt no, it's not a shame. Leave Runrig to the genuine fans. Not the band wagon jumpers. Couldn't face seeing this band on the radio every day, it'd ruin the special feel and uniqueness they've always had to me
very uplifting story . runrig have always had a "certain way" with songs it has been a great journey- long may it continue! rory is one of the best vocalists i have ever heard.
Attended The Story at Edinburgh Castle in 23Jul 2016 ~ avid fans all the way from New Zealand and China ~ fantastic concert ~ well worth the trip despite being hassled by security for taking photos of Runrig on stage. Pleased to know they are touring again in 2017 ~ how about a trip down under to New Zealand?
Hi Munro, The guy in the video is remembering his past in the Hebrides as he nearly parts with a golden heart at a pawnbrokers in Glasgow. Thankfully he saw sense and took it back! That's only my opinion.
+1runrig Hi, I see The Story in a similar way. I am English (Somerset born and raised, lived for 53 years now in Lancashire) and my dear, Scottish, wife passed away 3 months ago aged only 66 and as I see it his wife has also passed away and, down on his luck, he is pawning her locket and after remembering their meeting in the Hebrides, as you suggest, he thinks better of it. We went to the Hebrides on holiday twice and this wonderful song and video brings back memories of those magical Isles and makes me yearn for my sadly departed wife. I had Precious Years as "Music for Reflection" at her funeral. I love Runrig and their music is a comfort. My son is "standing in" for her at the Manchester Apollo in February. I bought our tickets three days before she unexpectedly passed away and she was so looking forward to it.

Brings me to tears. Especially at the end when you see the BMW drive off through Glasgow city centre
Every time I watch this I can't find my mouse pointer any more. My eyes are too blurry and wet. what on earth???
The sound of the guitar is just so amazing - esqusit and tender as well as sad and powerful!

It is so beautiful, beautiful beyond words. Brings tears to my eyes. Feels like coming home.... :-)
Where did you go Martina BC once upon a time you were always with the Scots , even from where you come from .
I love that the band in the flashback is the original Run Rig Dance Band: guitarist, drummer, accordion player.
Easily one of of favorites by them and the video takes it to another level.
Run rig are a phenomenal band. They sing very emotional sentimental music, which many of us are by nature. Great ambassadors for beautiful Scotland.
Runrig you have been my story for the past 40 years. i miss you/
Modern song with Scottish twist. Love how it's bi-lingual too. Class band, possibly best in Scotland.
Try best in the world....no question
You don't get a much more Hebridean surname than Macleod.

It's sad that "The Story" is their last album, but knowing when to call it a day is a mark of maturity. Well done, gentlemen.
Runrig will never die. Never fail to do the business do they!? class act.
One of my all time favourite.... thank you and God bless ALBA
Magnifique chanson à la fois teintée d'émotion et d'espoir. Merci à Rory et à Calum Mac Donald.
cC'est grâce a radio CAROLINE que je découvre ce groupe . super. Merci à L 'ECOSSE.
Take me right back to school and 1984. Brilliant.
Love this.........So looking forward to the new album
If this doesn’t touch your soul nothing will. I can’t warm to holyweird music at all this is pure class.
McSPRINGSTEEN & have been lucky enough to see when Donnie was lead singer .... bought all & missing this one for now ... not after tonight
Love the song it has such a great sound! will look forward to the last Album and makes it even more important to go to their concert near us in Feb! Think i could cry at the thought of no more.. having grown up with their songs. They are a huge part of my life.
I've been lucky enough to hear the whole album from a promo CD - brilliant, just brilliant!
Love this, can't stop playing it 💗💗💗
This just sounds soooooooooooo good. Bring on the album
Another fantastic song from Runrig, brilliant!
'S fhada, 's fhada, an ceòl a ba cho binn
'S a' ghrian a' dh'èirich air mo chridh'
Guth nan eun gar dùsgadh bho chadal, àilidh, ciuin,
Moch is deisel 'son an t-slighe
And I'm still dreaming of the Hebrides
And I'm still leaning on the early years
And I can't help feeling it will always be
The story of the life inside of me
Achadh abaich, còrna 's seagal 'fàs
Loch nan ealachan aig tàmh
B' e siud an dealbh a dh'fhan fad an t-samhraidh sin dhuinn
'S gach uile samhradh eile a dh'fhalbh
'S mi an-diugh a' streap beanntan àrd nam bliadhn'
Le gach smàl is sgaradh air an t-saoghal
Ach thig le cinnt là n h-aiseirigh dhuinn
Mar a thàinig là a chiad-fhairich mi do ghaol
+Aubbie Melancholy 'S math a tha thu a' dèanamh! / ! You're doing well!
+Aubbie Melancholy 'S e do bheatha! / You're welcome!
Càit' a bheil thu ag ionnsachadh na Gàidhlig? / Where are you learning Gaelic?
+Aubbie Melancholy That's great! I have made so many Gaelic-speaking Canadian friends over the years! You do know that Canadians speak a particularly pure form of Gaelic, don't you? It's really like you never left!
+Aubbie Melancholy Well, you're always welcome to Skype me and find out! Just add markrae
+Aubbie Melancholy Wouldn't be on FB if you paid me!
I love the ending to this as it seems to nod to the fact that the Highlanders were shuned when they first came to the central belt of there own country now us lowlanders embrace them and appreciate there language and culture well done runrig as you have opened the eyes of the world
Runrig definitely make you proud to be Scottish. Amazing band .
It's unbelievable that Runrig has produced 13 albums previous to this and yet still can make such a fantastic new song! It's sad this will be the last studio album as I've followed them all my life, hopefully the touring goes on and on though :) too young to retire yet surely ;)
Cannot stop listening. Pure genius.
Thanks to the Military Tattoo 23. I found this song ❤❤❤
Got to add this album to my Run Rig collection when back in Scotland soon. Been following for 30+ years!
Absolutely wonderful. So love this song - once again Runrig has hit the mark
This really tugged at my heart strings. A great piece of art guys!
A lot going on in this video. Can't wait for the album, and I'll be going to the Glasgow concert next year!
amazing song! and love that it was produced by the youngest member of the band...i think Brian Hurren has nailed it and if the rest of the album is on par Runrig will have a new lease of life...its amazing how he captured the Runrig sound but brought it up to date...amazing and brilliant...Runrig should be gald they managed to unearth a talent like Brian Hurren
+Paul McCaffery I agree, Brian is a hugely talented musician, I love his style and I hope that although this may be Runrig's last story to tell, that there is a sequel and Runrig will live on in the music of Brian. Runrig Forever!!
+wessexmatt. if you havent already..listen to Brians solo album its amazing...its under the name A Hundred Thousand Welcomes
Yes I have 'A Hundred Thousand Welcomes'
Great album!
Shows there is great talent out there, but what a huge shame that artists like Brian barely get noticed amongst the same old crap that radio stations churn out these days.
+wessexmatt no, it's not a shame. Leave Runrig to the genuine fans. Not the band wagon jumpers. Couldn't face seeing this band on the radio every day, it'd ruin the special feel and uniqueness they've always had to me
I second that one Andrew :)
Great combination. Runrig one of the best ever, always underated.
Once more, they brought me to tears like no other band ever has - and presumably never will.
very uplifting story . runrig have always had a "certain way" with songs it has been a great journey- long may it continue! rory is one of the best vocalists i have ever heard.
Can't stop listening to it. Absolutely fantastic
Just amazing, nothing but the best from Runrig as always. Roll on 29 Jan 2016 for the Album which I know I will love.
Magical. A Runrig masterpiece and an anthem for the tour. Listened and watched a dozen times or more. Oh, and purchased.
Great song! Classic and modern all at the same time. I love the video too, very romantic. I can't wait for January 29th!
Absolutely brilliant..
.as ALWAYS...Thank you guys for giving us you and your music...Your the Best..
Beautiful song
Sad it will be the last Studio album but looking forwad to it as always and love this track so far
Hi Munro, The guy in the video is remembering his past in the Hebrides as he nearly parts with a golden heart at a pawnbrokers in Glasgow. Thankfully he saw sense and took it back! That's only my opinion.
+1runrig
Hi, I see The Story in a similar way.
I only discovered Runrig a few weeks ago, but wow they are so incredible
