I watched the horrendous dub just to make fun of it. My favorite line was: "the first rule of glitter force is that you don't talk about it." Me: "What is this? Fight Club?"
I liked it a lot when it Came out, but then I was corrupted by how much hate it got and I started to feel embarassed for not hating it, still my top 6 favorite season.
You brought up a really interesting perspective on this season that made me wanna try it again. DokiDoki killed my interest in the series for a couple of years, but it definitely had some strong points I remember that you pointed out. Thanks for making these, they're always super fun to watch and make me really nostalgic for older seasons. I'm really excited to see what you think of HaCha, it's like second or third place for me but it's really divisive like DokiDoki. Also, the Cure Sword transformation in episode 40 is and always has been one of the best moments in the series. Like, I never really liked this season, but I got chills every time I thought about how good that scene is.
This was a fantastic review. Doki Doki was my first Precure season and watching this review really helped refresh my perspective on the show and made me notice positives and flaws that I didn't previously. Great job man!
Just to let you know, "trump" in Japanese mean playing cards. The theme for DokiDoki is "cards" thus their name Heart, Diamond, Sword, etc. Trump Kingdom has nothing to do with America or anything. It's just a kingdom that ties in with the "cards" theme.
I'm glad to see you enjoyed Dokidoki. I can never put anything into words really, but how you explained the pacing may have been why I watched Dokidoki in its entirety in the span of 3 days or so, where other seasons may have taken me a couple weeks. At no point did I ever feel it was the worst season, though I can't really list them in order of best to worst, I'm bad at that too.... I pretty consistently had fun watching throughout all of Precure until Go Princess, which was where my enjoyment kind of tanked, only to rise back up again with Mahoutsukai... only to tank even harder at Kirakira's arrival. I look forward to your review of Happiness Charge, which was also another apparently hated season, and again, I'm not entirely sure why. I know some people were upset it didn't do what Kamen Rider Decade did, also being a 10 year anniversary season, but I don't really see why they should've, it's a different franchise.... Also can't say I wasn't expecting to see my comment in the video :o
I love this season! While it doesn't top HeartCatch or Princess for me, Doki Doki is still great. The characters are so much fun (Rikka is my fave), the villains are probably the best we have, and while there are some hiccups long the way they don;t distract from the great big picture
Another day, another awesome Tyranno Precure video. Can't wait to see you think of Happiness Charge since it's one of my favs but almost as devisive as Doki Doki in some circles.
Hey, it’s my intro season to Precure and one of my (evidently a biased opinion) favourite seasons! I’m glad that the hate for DokiDoki Precure has gone down and that people are starting to see it’s actually pretty interesting, and they do a good job going through the plot and progressing in important story elements, especially for a kid’s show. The fights and animation are pretty good too! Yes I’ve loved a lot of (arguably better) Precure seasons since then (eg Heartcatch, Go! Princess, Hugtto, etc), but there’s also been quite a few that struggle much more greatly in plot and character. Like...I don’t mind HappinessCharge’s plot but I don’t like its character development, or I like KiraKira Precure’s characters but not the plot development. But I think DokiDoki does a good job balancing both characters and plot, even if there have been better seasons. ^^
Doki Doki is a wonderful season, and one of my favourite. I especially love the mystery surrounding Cure Ace, despite the amount of hate built up around her character. Glad to see a more positive review of it :D
Look, about the idol stuff: idols are way too complex to boil them down to just 'fetishistic and dehumanizing,' especially in fiction. Tons of idol stuff have massive female fanbases and while there's plenty of elements of the idol industry that are exploitative and should be burned to the ground, you can say the same about, uh, a lot of industries. I think you're just being willfully obtuse about this stuff in some ways, and as a woman who's found a lot of meaning in that kind of stuff it's extremely frustrating to see. Like a lot of things, there are both good and bad aspects, and seeing you tear into the bad aspects based solely on, apparently, watching Perfect Blue and nothing else, with no regard for the positive aspects, is legitimately kind of hurtful. Again, it's a capitalistic, exploitative enterprise, but, uh, so is PreCure, and you're clearly getting meaning out of that if you're making these videos.
Also, as a sidebar, the shipping stuff feels like... a slightly off take? A lot of the reason for stuff like that is that writers want to make stuff like that explicit but can't because PreCure, so it gets slipped in via methods like that. Considering how many authors of actual explicitly lesbian manga got their start by doing yuri PreCure doujins and how the series has leaned into it more as time's gone on (the manga adaptations of PreCure especially have featured stuff like explicit kisses and promotional art of characters straight up raising actual kids of theirs together) I don't think you can write it off as just weird baiting, and the odd handwringing about shipping in this context also comes across off. Shipping can be a pretty important exploration of one's own sexuality and relationship with others, it isn't just a weird porn thing or whatever as some people characterize it as.
Thank you for these comments! I guess yeah, I do have a very limited perspective on the whole idol thing, only ever really considering the (probably theoretical) exploited worker angle and not examining the actual work that comes out of it, even though that dynamic could be applied to literally all of art. I guess it's just easier to put a face to and sympthize with idols as opposed to more faceless authors behind other works? I dunno. I can say that my perspective didn't start with Perfect Blue though - I remember hearing that story where a member of AKB48 was publicly shamed for her private life and forced to shave her head and being disgusted by that whole affair, like not wanting anything to do with any system that would enable something like that to happen. (to be clear, siding with the woman here, she did not deserve anything that happened to her.) Again though, all that feeds into my limited perspective, so I legit have no idea what any good side to this whole thing looks like, and I'm genuinely interested if anyone could explain that perspective. And as for the shipping stuff. I guess I didn't make it clear, but my frustration is that any romantic relationship between these characters can't be made explicit (probably due to some underlying homophobia that exists within the systems in which these shows are made? i think?). I would LOVE it if these characters could explicitly be together, but like, within Dokidoki, it's made abundantly clear that these characters won't ever be despite implications to the contrary. In the movie (guess I should admit the status of the movie as canon is debatable?) the crew time travels to the future and Mana's getting married to *some guy* and Rikka's just in the audience. I'm not quite sure how to put words to it, but that that happens is...disheartening. If Precure gets better about this as it goes on, then great! But within Dokidoki specifically, I think execution was lacking. ...I honestly feel like I'm missing something here though. Am I?
@@Tyranno i mean, a lot of idols (speaking more for k-pop because i'm more familiar with that than j-pop) join the idol industry because of a genuine love for performing and creating music, and while the industry is tough, shady, and exploitative, so is any industry in a capitalist society. also, a lot of the limitations and restrictions placed upon them are pretty much made clear prior to them signing themselves away to a crazy contract. of course, there are shady things that happen behind closed doors, but none of us really know what that explicitly entails, so we can't really comment on it. aside from that, though, idols are aware of what they're getting themselves into, and while i think dating restrictions and forced diets are absurd, unquestionably wrong, and oftentimes misogynistic, idols are aware of these contractual obligations and choose to enter this career path despite them. they chose to enter a tough field in order to fulfill a certain passion and potentially become super rich and famous, and if that's what their heart desires, then power to them imo.
@@Tyranno I mean I understand that Toei will probably never straight out say that any 2 same gender Cures are "romantically in love with each other". But, it doesn't mean that Doki Doki can't heavily suggest that they are. As a PreCure fan, I'll take what I can get and then run wild with it. Regina says that she loves Mana at one point in the show and her face is red after saying that. Saying you love your best friend doesn't warrant a flushed face. Saying that you romantically love someone does though.
@@venteanari another side note from for example in Produce 48 with Korean and Japanese idols the girls from HK48 had said being an entertainer comes first singing and dancing come next, realistically idols in japan have a different outlook for example even the whole graduation system perfect blue does a good job of showing how in the 90s and 80s when the idol world was barely emerging into what we know now and but even then japanese idols have had quite a long history giving that it has its own genre in the anime world and its really vast honestly. but see those are some differences on how it is viewed but going back to graduation system in japan most idols leave gracefully and fans are okay with it because they are used to it at this point most korean idols in he industry leave and will get hated on the internet and not allowed to live freely to a degree while i can also say though that is certain cases of idols too because they have said controversial things in the context on what is believed to controversial in korea and thats another thing we need to see when we watch Anime , KDramas, even from the idol industry and understanding the cultural context it means to the country and although you do not like it is something should be respected to a degree cause most idols do it out of them wanting to again not all cases
Yeah, Doki is legit solid and hating it is just a meme. A few thoughts of my own: - I didn't see the peer pressure angle before, but I get where you're coming from. I think my reading of it was the standard "you make people happy and they love you" finding-your-passion-again arc that basically every show about performers or sports players goes through at some point. - Makopi's idol shtick is totally riffing on the Sailor Starlights, though, don't even try to deny it. - You make a point about how everyone is "special", but I feel strongly that Mana being who she is is only because she _works her ass off_ for it and has great people around her. She's competent without being cold and incapable of empathy, which ultimately serves to show that ordinary people can _become_ special too. I mean I see your point, but I don't think it's bad to have _protagonists that excel_ as role models. - What about that time Alice cut a helicopter in half with her shields, tho - I'm starting to think you don't talk about the supporting cast because you want to torment me. :P Special mention needs to be made for the butler, who went full Batman to support Alice. Absolute unit. Also, Davi. How does a tiny cat fairy get a driver's licence anyway? Maybe she's a secret agent. Other fairies were pretty good too; I like how they were established as young long before they learned to become people from their desire to be helpful, which gives context for their struggle to act more grown up than they are. It's the kind of thing that's helpful for the _target audience_ to see. - The blonde knight guy was sketch af even though he ended up being completely benign. - I kind of forgot about the "everyone's a mom" arc because it was just so... meh. Kind of like Aguri herself, tbh. She was the worst part of the series. - Alice's bed has its own zip code. It's zoned light commercial and supports well-paying jobs for about a dozen families. - Man, that transformation music hit me right in the nostalgia. Also the turnabout music when things start going right is an earworm for me. - Yeah, you could say the shipping was too overt, but on the other hand? It's refreshing to see a show for kids that's just totally chill about "oh, these girls might be gay, nbd". That's all I have for now. Next up, HaCha, which... I think it's better than people give it credit for. Mostly.
About the shiping part, yea there is Mana × Regina, Mana × Rikka, Mana × Makoto, Rikka × Makoto,*Rikka × Ira* I really wanted to see more about Rikka and Ira, Doki Doki precure was not well planed (True) the chemestry with Rikka and Ira were perfect! In the Wattpad comunity, theres a problem with that...theres a war betwen Rikka × Ira and Rikka × Mana XD. (UwU) Sorry for bad grammar, i speak spanish.
@@beidoumimujer7783 I'm in the Rikka x Ira camp all the way. Tbh I only ever saw Rikka and Mana as having a friendship relationship whereas Rikka and Ira definitely had some kind of connection (Wish Precure would actually dabble in canonizing ships more) and MANA AND REGINA WERE TOTALLY IN LOVE THATS NO QUESTION RIGHT THERE XD
Genuinely surprised by this one Chief! Personally I feel as anything that happens in the show happens, then is instantly forgotten, the whole mid-series climax happened basically around Regina, and it was made out to be a big deal, then the next episode (and also for the next 15 episodes or so) it's just all "what is a Regina?", most of the cast are unlikable due to how over-exaggerated they are, like I think in total there are about 2 or 3 characters I actually like. Also every new (or at least interesting) concept the show uses just gets forgotten after 1 episode, like all the fairies being human to help Mana and Co. happens once - never to be done again, like it was cool but only had 15 minutes of fame. Cure Ace - literally my least favourite in the franchise (even more than Cure Echo from New Stage, which even Toei keep forgetting about), she comes in acting all high and mighty, then EVERY emotional scene she's just like "Pretty Cures cannot cry, get up bitches", like is every series prior to this one instantly wrong where they're always saying shit like "expressing emotions takes true strength and courage". Also thet "I can only transform for 5 minutes" thing litterally only gets mentioned once or twice and only ever occurs when they're winning but they still have 3 more minutes of runtime so they just go "oh yeah, can't we just make Cure Ace time out or something?" Will admit, I like the main 3 villains, they were kinda cool, but nothing much more than that. Personally, I feel it started pretty strong, but with every episode it just got worse to the point it was just mentally taxing to even consider watching it Also the art style in the background rarely matches the art style of the characters which really bugs me - an animated show shouldn't have characters that look green-screened on to the background. Music's pretty whack this series too. Although if you like this hated series of PC, maybe you might like HappinessCharge, which'd be nice. Overall it's either loved or hated, but about 2/3 people seem to hate it which saddens me
4 years late but idc. i don't like being selfish, i really don't, and i used to be an idiot in the past, but i have someone to care for, to love, and i want to be a selfless version of myself. but i try to be carful as being too selfless can be just as bad as being too selfish. in the end, those feelings will fuse, and as long as we don't hurt anyone and show that we care and we have a heart, it's not the end of the world. as long as you know that the world does not revolve around you, and that we all make mistakes, then maybe it's not that bad. i don't like being selfish, but i can accept it as a part of me.
The part with them pushing Makoto into being an idol without the prior knowledge of her really liking it could also been seen as Mana trying to give her a reason again to want to do it. She's unsure if she wants to keep going, but what if her friends take the place of her old motivation and give her the little push she needs to help her decide what she wants? That's more how I viewed it, rather than a misstep and having them being selfish. Also just curious as to what you thought about Ai in general, since you barely even brought her up, also Joe, who you never brought up at all.
as a person who had Doki Doki be there first Precure series and just finished it up last week i ly like this show and glad that this was my first Precure season that i watched
I remember being really excited by the forward momentum at first, but overtime just got confused over the different story elements. Like Aguri coming in with no setup and those two baddies who came in later on and then dissapeared just as fast? Meh. Honestly I think I agree with most of your observations this season but the weaker elements weighed more for me. I'm character>plot and Rika, Regina and Bell where the only characters I got invested in. I think that 'all of our protagonists are special' bugged me too. Usually Precure has a strong emphasis on community but here, the town felt more like a plot device than somewhere the Cures had to protect. Maybe because there efforts where more focused on saving Trump Kingdom. That said I've never been able to hate Doki. Doki is just too weird to hate and I appreciate it's ambition.
I just finished Doki Doki Precure and i personally enjoyed it. It was also the first Precure series i have watched though. I wonder where i should go next.
I wasn't a huge fan of Doki, but I really enjoyed Happiness Charge, which is the other season that gets a lot of heat, so hopefully you'll get a kick out of it too.
Only two seasons away from the masterpiece that is Go! Princess Precure. But I can't wait to see your views on the trash fire that is Happinesscharge Precure EDIT: Pick up Yuru Camp~! It's the most comfiest anime~!
As I've mentioned on several of his other season videos, Go! Princess was the first season I didn't like as I watched them in order. I'm really curious to see his review and breakdown of everything from a legitimate analytical standpoint. Maybe he can change my mind and convince me to rewatch it, or maybe he wont like it either. I'll just have to wait and see. Happiness Charge, however, I enjoyed just as well as any season that came before it.
@@GearSecond8555 I really don't know how to put it into words, and that's what kinda irks me. I just felt like it dragged on and I didn't much enjoy watching it week to week after a certain point. I also found it kind of forgettable, like I couldn't really tell you much about anything that happens aside from Towa goes from interesting to a piece of cardboard that just brings "Go!" to the transformation sequence.... a really weird episode with cats..... and Cure Mermaid being the most god awful hideously designed cure to date. (Minami herself was pretty boring too, from what I recall, so overall I think Cure Mermaid is the worst Cure in the franchise, easily, in looks, and character.)
Heads up for Happiness Charge Precure, you’ll be confused on who’s the actual sixth ranger, or if there’s even a sixth ranger at all! Also the first season to have multiple transformation besides their “ultimate form”, or in this case, their “innocent form”
Tyranno Oh okay! Thanks for responding! Now, because I’m also trying to watch all of the Precure myself, of course, I’d tell you to be ready for the golden flower named Go! Princess Precure!
HECKY YEAH! I loved Doki Doki PreCure and it was the second PreCure season I ever finished! I think I finished the season in record time too because I was so invested in the story and the characters! I think the Cures already being special wasn't a bad thing (not saying you did) but I feel because the Cures were in very comfortable positions kids could look up to them. It's kinda like how Ami from Sailor Moon was popular with parents because she had really good grades and was very well behaved! The characters being average was a very refreshing take in my opinion! Happiness Charge PreCure is next and it's okay. Not my favorite season, I don't think it's the worst season either (For me a give that crown to Maho Girls and Kira Kira PreCure doesn't deserve all the hate ;n;). I will say though that Happiness Charge PreCure had one of the best All Star films, that being New Stage 3!
Did you know that in the movie for dokidoki there's a scene where Mana gets bitten in the shoulder by a dog-like monster and she's explicitly shown bleeding? There wasn't too much of it shown but it was definitely something you wouldn't normally see in an anime targeted towards young girls, and what's even more fascinating is that it's not something the series has done before or since.
As a DokiDoki fan I'm glad you liked this season, I'm guessing you ignored all of the shipping bait moments in the show since you really only commented on Rikka's contribution I was hoping to see your reaction to that... but whatever glad you at least commented on it. Next up Happiness charge precure A.K.A. the one with the love triangles
Doki Doki is actually my top Precure, sure it has flaws, and it is different than others, but just like you said, I enjoy Doki Doki IMMENSELY. Sure the characters aren't relatable, but I don't care. I don't relate to Superman, or Batman, or heck, some of the Precures before Doki Doki. I guess this is why I enjoy the characters a lot, they are exaggerated good guys, but they did them in the most enjoyable way possible, to be at least. Also that part where you said that it is a bad thing that everyone cannot be a Precure, well.... hopefully you don't regret those words in Hugtto. To me, if everyone can be special, no one is. I think you also miss another theme of this show aside from selfishness vs selflessness, which is actually love. That's right, the topic that you thought was just another important thing in the story is also part of the theme. And there is a thing about the characters showing selfishness, well.... selflessness is also a part of selfishness. Just like King Jikochu/Trump King, he wants to save his daughter, but at the same time that can also be a sense of selfish desire. While I think this show could have been better, I think it has done it's best. Also a good thing, you didn't mention Glitter Force Doki Doki, cause that is even worst than the first one.
so the climax wasn't really about any of the main characters but like two characters, one of whome disappeared halfway through the story until coming back for the finale (making the whole brainwashing thing pointless) and another who only joined immediately after said character vanished, with it being justified by the twist being they're technically halves of the same person. yeeeaaah I can kinda see why some may not like that finale given it makes the other cast members pointless
Well again with the Idol part. I think you missed the point again by having this prejudice against it. The point of that plot was that Makopi originally only started being an Idol to find her queen (or someone else, I don't remember the details). After finding it, she in principle lost her motivation and was under the impression that she doesn't have a reason for singing anymore. As her friends at least believe she does get enjoyment out of it (this in media is usually a result from the idea "they can only be that good of a singer because they enjoy it), they try to give her a new motivation by telling her that a lot of people really enjoy her singing. The point was that prior to that, she never noticed it. She didn't really look at her fans, because she had a goal in mind and the fans were just a "number" to her showing her she does good. Therefore, she also never really thought about if people actually liked her because she didn't look at it like that. So, by telling her that there are people that enjoy her singing, Mana and the others want her to at least give it another try and see if she enjoys it, now that she can truly do it for herself and not because she wants to find a person. Again, it is not the deepest arc whatsoever, but I feel your prejudice against certain elements of japanese media and culture keeps you missing these pretty simple arcs. This is now the third time I notice it and sadly, everytime it came from a misunderstanding or prejudice of a culture which I think is criticism one might want to look into. Because I think we all don't want to be biased when analysing media. Edit: As a sidenote about the characters being too special. Couldn't you also say that this is in fact a good message to have? I didn't notice it, but I like to compare it to Isekai anime that have taken over the scene. Isekai anime usually have a MC that is pretty normal, telling you that everyone could be better if they were just born in another world. But isn't it actually a better lesson for young kids and teens if special people can access the "fun" stuff? Like, excluding being rich, anyone can study and get to be student council president through hard work. Wouldn't that be sending a message to young girls that if they just work hard enough, they too might be able to become PreCures instead of it being purely by chance? While I don't think this was the intention, isn't it actually be a better lesson?
The thing I hated most about this season is the fact Regina didn't become a precure. She literally wielded the legendary spear used by former precure of that universe. Like they could have made her cure spear or cure queen.
It's like Regina WAS Intended to be a Precure during the concept, but SOMEONE Watched the Last Jedi in his DeLorean, & wanted to Subvert Our Expectation.
BRO....10 years have passed. Doki Doki Precure is celebrating by releasing a new novel and there's new information that we might see Regina become a precure.
Interesting thing I saw pointed out elsewere, is that watching episodes on a week by week basis is a very diferent experiance to binge watching them. I can believe that since I wanted to atleast give one precure series a watch and I decided to go with the current one, I'm having a blast with it and alot of the kinds of things that probably would make the show repetative for binge watching, don't really do that when viewing it in this format.
i don't know why DokiDoki is so hated i just know that it is definitely my least favourite season and i can't figure out why? i recognise it's good i just don't like it while i recognise that Happiness Charge is pretty bad but i prefer it over DokiDoki but i'm glad you enjoyed it! and good luck with Happiness Charge, the writers seemed to think that rice is a personality lmao
I just finished Doki Doki yesterday and I have to agree that it's a damn good season. Sure it has minor flaws but most of these characters were done well from start to finish. The plot was good, and it was just fun to watch from Ep 1 to Ep 49. I don't agree with everything stated in your video and I really do wish you'd cover certain things in more detail. But, I do think this is your best review of a PreCure season so far since you did try to cover mostly everything.
Regarding the shipping thing, that's a trope. A Majority of Magical Girl shows have lesbian undertones: female friends being remarkably affectionate/touchy-feely with each other, female friends making supposedly platonic comments upon each other's beauty, jokingly suggesting or claiming to be going out or being married, etc. that don't really go anywhere. Not sure if it's non-committal fanservice or just trying to say "don't be afraid of some 'no-homo' talk". But I can cite numerous other magical girl series aimed at kids that do the same thing.
really anticipating your go! pri review! it has some of the best pacing in a precure season imo, at least for the most part, and it features a lovely cast. also some light organic shipping and some of the best fight scenes in the entire franchise!
I really enjoyed Doki Doki Precure. In fact I think its the only series that genuinely made me ship the heck out of two characters! That being Rikka and Ira. No clue why but they have such an adorable dynamic and I love it so much!! All in all this series is incredible and actually ties up loose ends instead of leaving them *cough *cough Hugtto, and also fleshes out characters pretty well instead of just letting them fend for themselves *cough *cough Star Twinkle. Also I think its one of the only series in the franchise besides Kira Kira that hinted at a gay relationship. That being Mana and Regina. I could totally see them together and Mana even said "I love you." So thats one giant flag right there. All in all great series that was pretty wholesome and adorable to watch. Also side note, with the way you feel about idols, you should DEFINITELY check out Aikatsu.
Wished that all of the botes sailed. Mentioning all the ships -Rikka×Ira -Rikka×Mana -Rikka×Makoto -Mana×Makoto -Mana×Regina Alice is alone :( , Aguri is too.
From what I've gathered, you watched this in English Sub. I have scowered the internet in my quest to find the original, and all I have come up with is half of the lost episodes and the finale. Teach me your ways. Also, where the hey is the movies? Like... all of them. There are three disks of the same movie on amazon for 100$ and though I'm desperate, I don't think I'm that desperate. Please help me find them. Also, I'm glad someone shares my enthusiasm about Doki Doki. This is the first one I've watched. I absolutely loved it.
Also I'm glad I didn't see the weird gay episode. That really wasn't necessary or important because they're both straight. In the movie, Mana get's married and all of the main cast is shown in the pews. I don't know why some people INSIST that ships that aren't cannon are cannon. Being an innocent smol bean does have it's perks. I guess I have some people to thank.
I like Doki Doki Precure. *AND I WATCHED IT VIA NETFLIX* Disclaimer: I fully believe the Netflix version is terrible and intend to watch the proper japanese original at some point, but what I got from the Netflix version I liked.
17:03 yeah this is a cultural difference that will probably bug a lot of people, but Japan is a collectivist society, so a lot of their norms will be shown in their art. I never thought about peer pressure being a thing in Japan, but it is strange that peer pressure might be accepted, if not encouraged, which is like the opposite of everything I was taught.
Now, I'm cool with glitter force. I am and has the same energy about liking it as you do for Doki Doki but I'M HAVING A HARD TIME WATCHING DOKI DOKI but I'm willing to watch the video to see the proper doki doki.
All I have to say about the idol thing is even if I a gree with you that this companies are all about the money and see the idols as product. Those idols who just want to sing and dance are not in fault and being a fan and supporting them. Is fine as long as you understand that they are human and don’t be an obsessive fan. As someone who likes kpop. That the reason I respect these idols more because they have to deal with all of that but that why I support them.
dayuem son, after watching your deep dive I wanna pick this series up and watch it ~ I originally started Precure back in 2010 with Fresh and went through almost all the precures up until Smile and thought it was a good place to end the hype streak since I loved it a lot. Doki Doki was right after that and Mana reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally threw me off so I just decided to skip the series >..> A few years go by and I haven't touched a single Precure series minus the medical one from last year. I really like the designs and colors they used for Doki Doki, and now that I know the story has a LOT to offer I may just get back into it :O
Oh by the way, did you know there’s a work in progress fan series of Sonic Cure? Pretty Cure but with Sonic the Hedgehog characters. So far they’ve reanimated a lot of openings and transformation scenes (including some from Doki Doki)
actually, the speech of mana about idol is a Idol profession is in japan. the Idol live for their public, they don't have the right to have personnal life and their decision must be take thinking of their public and not theirselve
I think characters being selfish jerks is a good thing, but only in moderation or with a reason so that the audience can understand why the character is doing what they're doing; but I agree 100% with you that the show shoulda included a message about peer pressure. Especially since Mana & Rikka care about others so them learning that they've been unintentionally peer pressuring Makoto woulda been reeeally fitting as "I care about my friend an' tried to support them but unintentionally started peer-pressuring them" is a very important thing to learn.
To me, the biggest thing about dokidoki that turned me off was the final fight. One of the the thing I absolutely hate to see is that such an important climax fight ended up to be a 1vs1 battle or the majority of it just focused on one member of the group (I'm looking at you Mana.) Don't get me wrong, I like Mana ( Cure Heart) as a character but I think the final battle could be presented better. That's why Heartcatch and Smile to me will always have the best finale. This is also the reason why a certain season didn't make it to the top of my list of favorite precure seasons ( I'm not spoiling now tho, cuz you will eventually find out)
@Jeffery Tang well to each their own I guess. However, just to make sure we're on the same page. Overall I still prefer DokiDoki, but its final battle as a whole was pretty lack luster to the point that other cures beside Heart are pretty much not necessary. Smile on the other hand has top notch animation quality during the fight vs pierrot, and it also feels more intense ( also YAY for team fight.) The best fight in Dokidoki in my opinion is when they were fighting a dragon in a trial for the "power up stuff"
My problem with Smile's finale is that it's a rehash of All Stars DX 3. It's something that's been done before in PreCure and been done better. There was potential there to be something unique. But, instead it's just "Everyone fights a black hole". Even the way Pierrot is revived was done poorly. Joker just kinda sacrificed himself unwillingly and became the vessel for some lame looking clown. Thereby completing denying the chance to let Joker be even more creepier and threatening as a villian.
So, just to make it clear, I don't hate DokiDoki or think it is the worst. But this was my first Precure season and I was there when it aired and read the comment so I know how viewers attitude change. You want to know why people don't like it? Because of one sin: Regina does not become Precure. People banging on how Mana is Mary Sue or whatever (I know this particular point is not in your video, but other than you, everyone who talk about DokiDoki talk about this), but the truth is if Regina become Precure, the hatedom won't reach the level it ultimately get to. Everyone was hype every episode. Mana's competency makes people compare her to Kamina. Everyone loving how it felt like a yuri harem. And loved and expecting (for months, I must emphasize) Regina to be the next Precure. Then Cure Ace appear, and everything change. Mana's competency now is a sign of Mary Sue. Other characters appreciation of Mana is now sign of Mana worshiping. Then there is video of a little girl cried when she finds out Regina isn't Cure Ace (which is unedited by the way). So yeah, everyone turn really sour toward DokiDoki from then onward, to the point that you can see DokiDoki is where Precure drop in viewership and merch sale begins. I personally, as a yuri fan, like it. But I won't lie, making Regina not a Precure is a decision that hurt Precure (not just this season) overall. Also, a bit of correction, Princess Ange becomes three people: Her Selflessness become Madoka; Her Selfishness become Regina; And Her Flesh become Ai-chan. If you don't realize, this season has a lot of SYMBOLISM on Christianity (i.e., Mana in the final episode died and then resurrected in order to defeat Original "Sin" Jikouchu. Plus, she "walks" on water.). So that is kinda important point.
Yeah the little kid viewers were let down by that too lol. I remember watching a video on youtube of a little girl who was so excited to see regina become a precure, and then when it doesnt happen she looks so disappointed.
So, which season is the worst and best for you up until now? Just being curious I honestly can't stand the OG duo season, and my favorite is still something between fresh and heartcatch
Warning for Happiness Charge, it’s good, but Yuko/Cure Honey is ACTUALLY useless to the story and if you took her out nothing would change. I promise. Otherwise the season is nearly perfect.
But Yuuko is _fun._ :( (I think it's debatable that Hime could have grown and matured as much as she did without Yuuko, though. Megumi is too... too much of a Pink Cure.)
the main issue of the public about dokidoki are the fact Mana is write to be a Mary sue and the fight the sire don't have so muche great fight dues to complex design
Oh yeah, my suggestion of something to watch is Gakkougurashi. If you do end up with that, don't look into it at all if you don't know anything about it >.>
I love this show as well, and much of what the fandom didn’t like about the show (Mana, Cure Ace, etc) ended up being things I loved about it. Also, I can see why you didn’t like the raising Ai arc or the side-character episodes, but those were among the most enjoyable episodes for me personally.
Regina is my favourite character in precure as a whole as for the reason for doki doki to me is selfishness and the seven deadly sins as fan of corruption my interested in precure and magical girl come from the thematic battle and monsters mostly created from negative or evil of man
I watched the horrendous dub just to make fun of it. My favorite line was: "the first rule of glitter force is that you don't talk about it."
Me: "What is this? Fight Club?"
I liked it a lot when it Came out, but then I was corrupted by how much hate it got and I started to feel embarassed for not hating it, still my top 6 favorite season.
This is the first time I have ever heard a youtuber say that doki doki precure is good,it just made me so happy to hear that.Thank you
You brought up a really interesting perspective on this season that made me wanna try it again.
Yeah, but it’s just a meme so it doesn’t matter.
Ah next is the fun one: Happiness Charge where the lead isn't afraid to use mooks as weapons
And the only one to date with eye lasers :D
So excited for the Go! Princess review! It’s my favorite Pretty Cure season!!!
He'll yeah! Mine too!
Ash B. Go Princess is BY FAR the best season!
Jeffery Tang i get that that’s your opinion but you don’t have to at me twice dude 😑
Jeffery Tang
Broooooooo.....I’m about to lecture youuuuu
I think DokiDoki is the best Precure series. But he didn’t talk about Ira, Mammon, or Bel at all..and Ira is my favorite character.
Alice is literally just lolita fashion-wearing Seto Kaiba
I like how he said that Alice is the Batman of Precure, but she's so rich that Batman is her butler.
Alice is the embodiment of the speedwagon foundation.
Ah you're getting closer to Go! Princess Precure, my favorite season
When he said Ace comes out of nowhere, he WASN’t kidding. She came from the heavens man...doesn’t act like it though.
YES, WELCOME TO THE DOKI DOKI IS A GOOD SEASON CLUB :D
A few thoughts of my own:
- I didn't see the peer pressure angle before, but I get where you're coming from.
- What about that time Alice cut a helicopter in half with her shields, tho
- I'm starting to think you don't talk about the supporting cast because you want to torment me.
Mostly.
About the shiping part, yea there is Mana × Regina, Mana × Rikka, Mana × Makoto, Rikka × Makoto,*Rikka × Ira*
I really wanted to see more about Rikka and Ira, Doki Doki precure was not well planed (True) the chemestry with Rikka and Ira were perfect! In the Wattpad comunity, theres a problem with that...theres a war betwen Rikka × Ira and Rikka × Mana XD.
(UwU)
Sorry for bad grammar, i speak spanish.
@@MiracleClover these are just facts dude. 👄👊
Also thet "I can only transform for 5 minutes" thing litterally only gets mentioned once or twice and only ever occurs when they're winning but they still have 3 more minutes of runtime so they just go "oh yeah, can't we just make Cure Ace time out or something?"
Will admit, I like the main 3 villains, they were kinda cool, but nothing much more than that.
Personally, I feel it started pretty strong, but with every episode it just got worse to the point it was just mentally taxing to even consider watching it
Also the art style in the background rarely matches the art style of the characters which really bugs me - an animated show shouldn't have characters that look green-screened on to the background.
Music's pretty whack this series too.
Although if you like this hated series of PC, maybe you might like HappinessCharge, which'd be nice. Overall it's either loved or hated, but about 2/3 people seem to hate it which saddens me
idk why everyone hates doki doki i really like it but i cant wait till u get to go princess precure
DokiDoki Precure was my first series and I enjoyed it.
Same with me. Doki Doki is the reason i got interested in PreCure.
Me too! ❤
And also extra points for their stand alone movie the movie will always be on my #1 Precure movie list.
But I can't wait to see your views on the trash fire that is Happinesscharge Precure
EDIT: Pick up Yuru Camp~!
@@Kyrika curious, what elements in GoPri did you not like?
Also the first season to have multiple transformation besides their “ultimate form”, or in this case, their “innocent form”
yeah, uh, already finished watching hapchar a while ago. deep into making my video on it, should be out sometime next week.
When you got to cure ace(the red one) i thought you were gonna question how when she transforms she look like an older person.
It could just be me, but Alice feels a lot like an amped up version of Mari from Love Live Sunshine

Doki doki precure is one of my favorite precure seasons
so the climax wasn't really about any of the main characters but like two characters, one of whome disappeared halfway through the story until coming back for the finale (making the whole brainwashing thing pointless) and another who only joined immediately after said character vanished, with it being justified by the twist being they're technically halves of the same person.
yeeeaaah I can kinda see why some may not like that finale given it makes the other cast members pointless
Ah. You put "under pressure" during cure sword's section. You sneaky sneaker, you.
pulled a little sneaky on ya
26:07 When your harem is mad at you.
I like dokidoki and agree with most of your thoughts! I'm excited to see your vedio on Happiness Charge!
I love doki doki precure!
All of the shipping is Canon.
This is the best PreCure in my book.
Wished that all of the botes sailed.
Mentioning all the ships
-Rikka×Ira
-Rikka×Mana
-Rikka×Makoto
-Mana×Makoto
-Mana×Regina
Alice is alone :( , Aguri is too.
I love doki doki I just wish the transformation were better
@@beidoumimujer7783 What's happened to Rikka with Makoto????????
17:53 It's Start In Here 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂
12:15 what the beep is happening?
It's a good season
I like Doki Doki Precure. *AND I WATCHED IT VIA NETFLIX*
Disclaimer: I fully believe the Netflix version is terrible and intend to watch the proper japanese original at some point, but what I got from the Netflix version I liked.
I was introduced to this franchise via Glitter Force so I'm glad I found it.
Doki doki is my favorite series
17:03 yeah this is a cultural difference that will probably bug a lot of people, but Japan is a collectivist society, so a lot of their norms will be shown in their art. I never thought about peer pressure being a thing in Japan, but it is strange that peer pressure might be accepted, if not encouraged, which is like the opposite of everything I was taught.
25:48 There is a theory that the all-elite DokiDoki team is the creators overcompensating the almost-all-stupid Smile team.
Now, I'm cool with glitter force. I am and has the same energy about liking it as you do for Doki Doki but I'M HAVING A HARD TIME WATCHING DOKI DOKI but I'm willing to watch the video to see the proper doki doki.
And also has a big surprise awaiting regarding Queen Mirage
I litterally sit down and make time to watch your videos
When he said that trump kingdom had predicted what America would be, I had to check the publish date.
I really had to check the date this was on yt. COVID hit hard...
dayuem son, after watching your deep dive I wanna pick this series up and watch it ~
I originally started Precure back in 2010 with Fresh and went through almost all the precures up until Smile and thought it was a good place to end the hype streak since I loved it a lot. Doki Doki was right after that and Mana reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally threw me off so I just decided to skip the series >..>
A few years go by and I haven't touched a single Precure series minus the medical one from last year.
38:22 no that's next season
I think characters being selfish jerks is a good thing, but only in moderation or with a reason so that the audience can understand why the character is doing what they're doing; but I agree 100% with you that the show shoulda included a message about peer pressure. Especially since Mana & Rikka care about others so them learning that they've been unintentionally peer pressuring Makoto woulda been reeeally fitting as "I care about my friend an' tried to support them but unintentionally started peer-pressuring them" is a very important thing to learn.
Cure Panda will see this and his mind will probably make boom
Surprised you didn't mention the rikka x it's thingy xd
Just so you know, if you seen smile precure and Doki Doki precure, then must have see the American adaption: glitter force and glliter force Doki Doki
Doki doki is my favorite pretty cure
Just being curious
I honestly can't stand the OG duo season, and my favorite is still something between fresh and heartcatch
fav is heartcatch by no small margin, least fav max heart.
Well character is special can make show more interesting
6:54 who needs sleep am I right?
only one more season until Go Princess \**/
My hero!
Continue watching and making videos so I don't have to!
About the idol thing, I also despise that idol mentality.
The op song is horrible but the endings?best in precure
Hey quick question
Where do you watch the Japanese version of Doki doki precure because I can’t find it
Warning for Happiness Charge, it’s good, but Yuko/Cure Honey is ACTUALLY useless to the story and if you took her out nothing would change. I promise. Otherwise the season is nearly perfect.
But if she wasn't around, who would clover nuke things from orbit? D:
But Yuuko is _fun._ :(
(I think it's debatable that Hime could have grown and matured as much as she did without Yuuko, though. Megumi is too... too much of a Pink Cure.)
@Jeffery Tang Now I want to see a parody that replaces Hibiki with a giant evil flightless bird.
she’s my fav cure 🙃
9:23 XD
Blossom Response Among Outside Keeping Results Around Lovely
oh look, a precure story where a character becomes an idol because HER FRIENDS TELL HER TO
STOP DOING THIS PRECURE, YOU DON'T DO IT WELL
the main issue of the public about dokidoki are the fact Mana is write to be a Mary sue and the fight the sire don't have so muche great fight dues to complex design
Oh yeah, my suggestion of something to watch is Gakkougurashi. If you do end up with that, don't look into it at all if you don't know anything about it >.>
this ain't a viewer's choice video - comments for suggestions go in those (the next upload will be one of those). I have seen that, tho. good shit.
@@Tyranno Oops, my bad :x
I liked this season I’m suppressed that not many did.
I can't believe you liked doki... and then dissed the carrot episode
I love this show as well, and much of what the fandom didn’t like about the show (Mana, Cure Ace, etc) ended up being things I loved about it. Also, I can see why you didn’t like the raising Ai arc or the side-character episodes, but those were among the most enjoyable episodes for me personally.
Little did you know that the baby concept would be a staple for some future series.
Regina is my favourite character in precure as a whole as for the reason for doki doki to me is selfishness and the seven deadly sins as fan of corruption my interested in precure and magical girl come from the thematic battle and monsters mostly created from negative or evil of man
Selfishness the english version on netflix it is called distain
Cure sword is best girl
So your saying this is reupload when there parts that got copyright claimed? Or you upload each clip as each video to see which would be claimed?
upload first, see the parts that got flagged, destroy those parts and reupload
I hate Bel though. He gives Ira and Mammo a blood ring that tortures them when they don't do his bidding.
I'm also enjoyed it.
since you like Doki Doki that much I recommend you to check Kamen Rider blade and Kamen Rider OOO since they are so similar to doki doki
