The reason they revealed that they were precure at the end was because the didn’t know if they were going to survive the fight against mobius so they wanted their families to know the truth just in case they never got to see them again. It was about them getting closure with the unease and fear for their lives so they could potentially die with no regrets. Which in its own way is actually kind of heartbreaking and even a little horrifying that a group of teenagers had accepted that doing the right thing might get them killed.
been binging through Watching ALL the Precure the last couple of days. Dude I love this series its super fun and engaging and this is coming from someone who has never seen any precure. Great work
I really disagree with you with Setsuna since you completely missed out a part of her character. In fact she did her status as precure because during the season she decided that the best way to get rid of the precure is to destroy them from the inside, so she befriends them to try and stop them from stopping mobeius and with each time she does interact the more she actually starts to change and actually like being with the girls with one episode even showing her care for their health after they pass out. You seemed to miss all of this during your review which really hurt it for me
I don't disagree that that was the intention; in execution and communication is where it falters. I remember that hospital scene--perhaps the intention was to show she was starting to care for them, but when her inner monologue is all "mua ha ha imma trick them all," it really gets in the way of that idea. Note that I still like Setsuna--I'd even call her my favorite character of the season--I just wish her growth across the first half of the season wasn't so "subtle" as to be invisible.
I don't think it was too subtle to point where you are just waiting for it to happen, but I do think you maybe could have worded it better or even acknowledged what they were trying to do since you didn't really mention any of it when it is a major part of her character and the show
@@Tyranno I mean the poster can correct me, but I'm pretty sure they're thinking of the time that Love was collapsing from trying to do both Dancing and Precure and Setsuna comes to them and pleads with them to stop doing precure and just focusing on dancing, sounding genuinely emotional about it (as opposed to the last time she was talking to her about exactly this when she was dead and detached- coincidentally when she didn't see how clearly ragged Love was being driven), and Love talks about her being flattered that she was worried, and Setsuna then kind of just... pauses in shock for a moment before quickly reassuring herself that Love clearly had no idea what she was talking about. Like, the thing is that Eas' arc is rather subtle and subconscious, honestly rather similar to the good Westar and Soular stuff you praised (and I agree was done pretty well). But the entirely of 18-22 is to show essentially the payoff for the previous few episodes, with both really obvious cues and more subtle ones. Like, remember Eas' little speech she gives in the first couple episodes and then stops giving? She then starts giving it in again in 18 (and 20 I think it was?) and it was directly in connection with Love saying that Eas cared about her or about "Setsuna" being lonely. And then you get the big payoff in 22 when she says this speech again, only this time it isn't even to anyone but repeating it desperately in her own mind at the idea that she might care about the others. And then you have the fight where the climax is Love saying that she can tell Eas is in pain and genuinely doesn't want to be doing this anymore, and everything from Eas' reactions to her saying that, to her complete and total emotional instability to the point that she can't even control her own monster and just... collapsing, indicates that Love is completely right. Like I disagree with quite a bit of this video, but your take that Eas only has a singular character relationship is just... wrong and I have no idea how you saw 18-22 especially and came away with that conclusion.
There’s a thing called “kira-kira names” which literally means “shiny names” in Japan. It refers to the “cute” often western and “quirky” out-of-the-ordinary names that parents give to their children. Some examples are Love, Dia (short for diamond), Aqua, Alice… you get the deal. I don’t know if shows like these popularized the idea that English words that refer to romantic concepts or jewelry etc. are cute options for names, or if the shows took the idea to appeal to people who already thought that way.
Fresh is one of my favorite seasons but I do see where you’re coming from with some of your complaints Also lol the wig monster episode is definitely one of the best
As a magical girl fan (not just a PreCure one) I was interested in one trope that was interestingly subverted in Fresh. It possibly started with 80s "Creamy Mami" where the main love interest dude ignores the main girl but has a crush on her magical persona. It has potential for interesting character exploration... but it's used mostly for pointless drama and the dude putting down the girl for not being like her magical persona (Go! Princess PreCure) can get really irritating. In Fresh, Daisuke is impressed by Cure Peach, sure, but he mostly uses her...as a therapist and asks her for advice on how to get along with her civilian persona, Love. It was reFRESHing how he had a thing for her true self from start to finish.
Not even a single mention of the best noncombatant supporting characters? I mean I guess you have your focus, but I find they're especially important to this one. Hell, Kaoru got his own episode!
I actually started with Fresh Precure and it is what got me so invested into the franchise. I still believe that this is the most realistic depiction of Precure in terms of powers, character, and interactions with the villains and public. I still found Eas/Setsuna's development natural and a notable episode for you to see her thoughts on shifting is (Episode 15) where Setsuna sees that Love truly values her as a friend.
Also another thing about your video that bugged me- like, the idea in the first episode isn't that Love tends to be a matchmaker. That is implied nowhere in that scene and if anything is contradicted by it. It was an extreme case of something Miki established that Love likes to do, which is do as much as she can to help others with whatever they need help with, and doing everything she can to make people happy. That actually is something kind of new to Fresh. Look at the characters at their starting points- Nozomi is a really kind girl but also incredibly awkward and not sure what to do with their life Honoka is a socially awkward girl with no friends. Nagisa is a somewhat personable but also rough and slightly selfish girl. Mai is a pleasant but calm and quiet artist. Saki is honestly the only primary-focus cure to have a personality at all similar to Love's, but Love has her whole other deal attached to it and goes in a much different direction than Saki does. (And even just thinking about other members of Team Yes, it'd be a mix of Rin and Karen and even that doesn't really work well.) And as for that establishing scene not being important- are you really going to die on the hill that Love being a friendly and outgoing person that wants to help people and will refuse to give up, and wants everybody to be able to be happy, has absolutely no influence on pretty important aspects of Fresh's storyline?
I relate to the fear of an animal. Mine is a saint bernard. Got attacked by one as a kid for no reason, even with its owner holding its chain. The dog jerked the chain out of his hand and if I would have been closer, I would have been hurt much worse. Luckily, I only got bit twice and only ended up with small wounds. I got off lucky. I haven't been able to shake that fear since. Spawned my fear of big dogs, especially when they bark.
Now that you mention it, a saint bernard and I did once have a spat that scared me half to death, but since then another friendly big dog has warmed me back up to them as a whole, and now I really want a big dog of my own. Still can't do ducks, though.
If this review is any indication, you’re probably gonna have a bad time when you reach Doki Doki and Happiness Charge, particularly with both of their second halves.
8:39...I remember almost every season saying the same thing along the lines of "what did I just say?" And same w a ferret, was staying at a friend's as a kid, theirs got loose crawled in bed that night and bit a chunk of my face off that I have a permanent scar from.
Lol I laughed like crazy... (especially at parent part...) Also, 22:25 cure dream reference? Also, I honestly wish they had more identity reveals, and the few that DO reveal are usually (if not always) at the end .... though in Happiness Charge, few people DO find out near beginning/middle (and I love the reveals there)
Also I don't get your complaint about the "telling the parents" thing. Obviously they're going to tell their parents where they're going, they don't know how long they're going to be gone or even if they're coming back, and their parents deserve to know. I also don't get how you think their parents "don't have common sense" because they won't let their teenage daughters try to solve the problem. In fact, that's normal common sense - in a crisis, you usually leave it to the government or army, not 4 teenage girls. The parents' behaviour is completely believable and logical in the context of the story and what they know.
Yes, Fresh Precure was meant to be a do or die season for Precure. A major thing to notice is that Precure as a franchise had several major bombs that radically changed the franchise going forward. Splash Star was a bomb that led to Yes being made and the Futari wa formula being abandoned until Maho girls Precure. Yes Precure 5 GoGo was a massive bomb that nearly killed the franchise and led to the Fresh era. Then came the combo of Happiness charge Precure and Doki Doki Precure. Doki Doki was notorious for the Aguri screwjob as I call it AKA Cure Ace the sixth ranger of the group which caused controversy since it was foreshadowed that Regina a Setsuna clone would become Cure Ace only to be a fake out and the position was given to Aguri a little girl that is a lot like Milk. And there was such backlash that Aguri's successor Ciel/Cure Parfait was introduced more in line with other sixth ranger Precure. And Happiness charge which was just an angstier rip off of Heartcatch.
Tyranno, the Suite movie is canon and set right between episodes 36 and 37. So if you get confused without watching the movie, the movie explains what happened between the two episodes.
First sorry for my bad English :( . Second, Love your review and analysis of the characters , I really enjoyed it and wished it was longer XD . And I am glad to hear that you might do reviews for the other seasons in the future Maybe I do disagree with Setsuna part, because she is in my top 5 precure character in the franchise. I felt her redemption arc was well written and even developed the relationship with her teammates. I was disappointing that the writer didn’t let Kaoru and Michiru to become Precure. So that’s why I am glad they gave us character like Passion. Although, I totally understand your point about her character ;) . Love was a good as character and leader to the group. I like her determination to help Setsuna and the fight between them was amazing. She is definitely not the same level as Nozomi or Nagisa but I prefer her over Saki. Trust me some seasons in the future will give you lame and boring pink lead Lol XD . I will not add anything about the remaining two cures , you’re already said what I have in my mind. These two got shafted and even their focus episodes were meh for the most part and their characters remain the same till the end. Miyuki was good support character who always around to help our cures, Kaoru especially was a comic relief and enjoyable to watch. Daisuke “ funny that’s his name means love in Japanese ,just wow Toei “. Anyway He was stupid character who get jealous and complaining about everything . Fresh was actually good show with some flaws and boring episodes. But overall it was enjoyable season and thanks to it we have the next season and all the other Precure :)
Oh, right, I said that, oh god why did I do that. At the time I just thought of it as "lol trendy meme" or something like that, but as our political landscape grows increasingly nasty I should probably make it clear for the record that I absolutely do not associate with the MAGA crowd, and I probably shouldn't have made that """joke.""" If you or anyone got a chuckle out of that than great, but I'm going to be a bit more conscious of saying stuff like that in the future.
well.... i have drastically different opinion i never was an analitic, i never study movie composition, but i purely enjoyed this season (yes 5 gogo i skiped entirely , i hated 4th season so much, well i later did watched it but as a bad comedy) and i am not even an english speaking person, and my background might be actually a cultural difference that make that difference in opinion possible. Who knows. For me Setsuna ark was overexposed before it happened, if they play Miyuki card some more and back down on "she is comming" it would work great, but i was glued to the screen for the first 28-ish episodes anyway. i love how Eas and later Setsuna build up first from pride , ambition and indoctrination, then try to redeam herself but is still dragged back. keep strong front and can't really channel her feelings but is a caring person. At the firsy stage she was fighting not only for pride , but also with frustration . she was waging holy war against those heretics yet they refused to back down, and their world kind of was getting to her internaly, she het used to this world and didn't want to admit that. Culmination, stadion fight and face reveal, then matrix in the rain fight and suddenly "neo" Setsuna who might or might not be in that wierd post first transformation state wher she didn't fully know what she was doing. Later she was actually still aware of how the dark side operate. but for the sake of protecting her new home, she kind of keept that to herself (this might be compared to every rape victim from 80's-90's movies and american tv actually, kind of irrational coping mechanism). and this did backfired, but how glorious was that Nothas un-mother . And i love how parents were depicted from start to the finish, thay act "japanese", enough to understand why they grounded their kids in the face of danger. They simply got stupid from the situation, and that would happen, those are not great tacticians of some briliant military. and the fact that love mother caught both Love nad Setsuna kind of made it the best scene for me (she could greach for only her biological child hand, and that would make sense too). I wonder how would normal parents around the world reacted to the buldozer reveal like that. but most of parents i know would probably try to take the problem by themeselves first then get to realisation that they are useless :P, theyre kids are only 14 after all that the stupid age when you don't think about consequences. I loved splash star, and i squeeled when Michiru and Kaoru swaped sides, but this time i actually could understand the vilan who swaped sides. Sorry, splash star had demonic twins who may or may not be humans, can't understan waht emotions are, and can't process them. Fresh had 99% human analog, indoctrinated since birth and rised as superior warior class, starting from square one on both social and secret life front. Westar was simply too stupid to understand the difference between good and evil, Sauler was social vampire, and it took them a while to understand, but didn't they all changed to good only after being killed off screen by the mastermainds?, how would eas acted if she didn't die that time?
I agree with some of your points. 4 months ago I watched fresh after yes 5 and its sequel for the first time. Love is one of my favorite pink leaders, for some reason, (Nozomi is my favorite of all) . Honestly I didn't care much for Inori or Miki, but Setsuna is something different to me, her cold personality? Her fresh new look in the pre-existing Fresh precure characters? I don't know... I like that you said ur opinions tho...! 17:31 Also yea this is a reference to the previous season, indeed, because when I paused it I couldn't see anything wrong, but then I realized that they are kinda like the yes 5 girls but with different colors and slightly different hairstyles
Okay, aside from kokoda from Cure Cheese LJ (formerly Precure LJ) and Azenzone, you are my one of my most favorite Precure reviewer... even though you did take your time with each season, but it was fun. So I hope you have fun with Heartcatch. Oh and about the fight scenes improving, don't get your hopes up just yet, cause as always things that comes up must come down, and sometimes it may come down HARD. Good news is you still have a long way to go before that happens.
Almost every other European language does have a name derivative from their word for Love, and some are pretty recognizable to English speaking people for Pop Culture reasons like "when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie That's Amore". The Big Bad of this season is literally Brainiac.
Fresh Precure became my favorite anime when finishing it and I knew somewhere in that season I became a fanboy for the whole series. I'm actually glad that watching this kinda opened an eye in my brain that blocked any criticism from it. Fresh definitely feels like a patchwork series of really good and really boring strings of episodes but the two parts that affected me the most emotionally weren't mentioned at all in the video. I really liked the angle they pulled with the male counterparts of the main cures all dealing with the cures they're crushing on in different ways. I was definitely the most like Daisuke growing up (actually I still am) so I felt a lot of emotions on the episodes that focus on him and Love and the last episode made me extremely mad on the first viewing and on the second I was sad but I learned a lesson that you should be more brazen when asking out girls. The other big part was when the girls were began to overwork themselves to the point of collapsing on the side of the street for one episode, but that's more just for the shock value because I was surprised they actually pulled that stunt in a kids' show. On my second view, I was a lot more interested in how Eas was also suffering in parallel with the special card LORD MOEBIUS gave her. He wasn't intending at all to power her up, he was trying to intentionally kill her through it's powers because he didn't think she was useful anymore. This actually parallels with how real Japanese businesses will intentionally give disliked workers harsh working conditions to the point of unhealthiness and even death. In a way it parallels with how Yes 5's viliians were a corporation, which as you said for other things in the show, could be explored further for interesting effect but doesn't. I legitimately think they just made stuff up as they went along, but I still love the series to death. Inori is my waifu but when you mispronounced Buki on purpose I was mad and laughing at the same time.
I gave up and came back to watch the rest of this video. I'll continue to watch when I'm in the mood for one more episode, meanwhile I'll start HeatCatch that everyone always praised. (good to know about episode 12 and Rie Matsumoto). But I have to say, I disagree with you about Eas/Setsuna changing sides. It wasn't a plot twist, it was a natural development, and it happened slowly. Her being angry with the Precures had it's own reasons and for me it was pretty clear that she had a huge fear of dying. I think that her "passionate" personality entered in conflict with her situation. Her making the gamble of risking her life to defeat the Precures that were always getting in her way, preventing her to satisfy the purpose for what she was allowed to live, only to see the Precures trying to save her and that she could find others ways to have a life and live in a way that satisfied her own desires, for me it made sense and ws gode.
I'm surprised you didn't talk about the 3D animation for the 2 EDs (as the previous 5 seasons all had 2D endings - and you know how anime is with 3D animation, especially back when Fresh was made) What's your overall score on it (out of 10)? You seem to enjoy a lot of parts yet equally annoyed at others so I'm rather intrigued as to what your overall score is. Although I am very glad you brought up Westar and how he grows over the season - not enough people seem to recognise him. Also, what did you think of Kaoru? (the doughnut stand/secret agent dude - not Kiryuu from Splash Star obviously), as one of the most recurring side characters of that season, that ended up talking to Tarte like it was nothing out of the ordinary, and also the comic relief he was able to bring to the table. Personally he was one of the main reasons why Fresh was a show that was just enjoyable to me, even on episodes that made no sense to the plot or just in general. I'd love to hear your side to that character, although as you didn't really bring him up I'm just guessing you just never found him overly good or even overly annoying. Can't wait for your video on Heartcatch, keep it up :)
Kaoru was GREAT. I loved his silly laugh, and that spy episode was endlessly amusing. I only didn't bring him up (along with the 3D animation) because I was trying to not go on forever and ever. I'd prefer not to go into my scoring system at the moment, because it's in a constant state of flux. I'm trying to only bring it up when revealing it will have any sort of impact or meaning. But to not leave you totally hanging, it is a positive score.
Fair enough - you did make a pretty long video And it's nice to know you have an overall positive outlook on the season (as it's one of my favourites to-date) And I know what you mean about a personal scoring system that fluctuates - I'd probably have to update everything on my MAL account every month just to make sure my scores remain consistent. But yeah, let's hope Heartcatch doesn't let you down (I doubt it - fantastic season) Have fun watching it
Am I the only one who thinks that the parents' first reactions and decisions were pretty logical? Better said, the mothers' ones (I hate how they differentiate between mothers' and fathers' way of thinking). It was made to be easily angry at the mothers and to go with the fathers. But would you ever leave some of your relatives (let's pretend, one of your parents, siblings, even children) go to put their own lives at high risk? Would you ever agree with the idea of letting your dear family members to sacrifice their own lives in order for you and the rest of the world (which I assume they're pretty less valuable than your family members)? IN MY OPINION, mothers' response hasn't been absolutely logically analyzed. Yes, some agree that it had a bit of sense, but they still treat them as "insane".
oh no yeah you're totally right, in retrospect this was a weird overreaction on my part. maybe there's some structural narrative elements that didn't quite click, but the general story beat is fine, actually.
The video: "-He's certainly a blight-" Me, who was half asleep: *falls off my bed* CHAD?! Okay, I just found this moment ironic sense I just finished drawing Amity Blight from The Owl House and she's my favorite character, and I'm obsessed. Just to hear her last name casually used by a youtuber who wasn't that big into ToH was a little bit of a shocker.
I know I'm coming WAY too late to the party for my opinion to matter now, but I just have to say that it seems like you have a bit of trouble "reading in between the lines" and you prefer for things to be expressed in a blatant way where the development and the plot is obvious to you. This became extremely evident to me after hearing you say that you don't exactly understand why the cures of this season decided to reveal their true identities to their close friends and families before engaging the final boss. To me personally, I could tell that the girls were fearing the outcome of this mission which was much different than any other bout they'd been in being severely more difficult and having much higher stakes. So, decision to reveal their identities stemmed from the fact that the team was afraid that they were pushing themselves into a suicide mission and were at high risk of very well losing this battle alongside their lives. Granted, this fear isn't necessarily shown blatantly, but that's because the girls had been preparing for this encounter through the entirety of the season. They were expecting it, even if situation that led to it was definitely the worst case scenario and not at all what they thought it'd be, and they were fully aware of what it meant to them and both of the worlds built throughout the story. As AzenZone put it best in my opinion, these girls were soldiers fighting in an all-out war, and like true soldiers they aren't going to back down from a fight that must be had even if they're scared to handle the situation at hand. This is where the Precure series in most of the seasons pulls the cover over our heads by ripping away the cutesy persona of the show and shines the spotlight on the darker aspects, notably the world-threating situation that the cures find themselves in in every season, which if it were any other show this part of it would be way more dramatic and deadly than it is in than anime still targeted at little girls. This is the core reason why it isn't so blatant that that's how they feel, even though they try to clue us in on it more with the reactions of their parents essentially mirroring how any other parent would realistically feel as well as how the fresh precure feel but must regard for the fate of their world which is ultimately more important to them. So, even though I get it, I can understand how you may have missed it. But, then... I have to talk about how I feel about your views on Eas which I'll make a comment on this post since I've kind of been rambling on.
When it comes to Eas, I was extremely disappointed with this review, because, coming from another person's review where Eas' character was taken apart by the seems and throughly explained to me which gave me a lot of insight on how the plot and the other main characters affected her, I really feel like you maybe missed all of it. Perhaps it has to do with how you viewed the aspect of dance in this show which isn't just for fun and games but a crucial aspect of this story. This shows how Eas' really changes in heart with her slowly caring more and more for the other members of the team despite manipulating their passion for dance into a negative influence in their lives that encouraged them to totally exhaust themselves for what they love in regard of their overall health and prior responsibilities to theirselves which is exactly the same thing that was happening to Eas herself. She pushes herself too far to achieve an objective for her dark overlord which she does not herself want. She pushes away friends who she could care about who could also care about her, because previous to them she was trapped in a dystopian society where no one cared for or acknowledged themselves or others which is why, when she tries to encourage Love to give up being a precure to pursue dancing and is met with Love's reaction of caring too much for everyone's well-being and being appreciative of Eas for the advice she's given her even if it's lead to her self-demise, she runs away from her in awestruck not knowing how to truly care for others or accept kindness and caring from others. Then, when she turns the suitcase full of important objects they needed to perform in the dancing contest they over-trained for into a monster and makes the same monster destroy the stage thus cancelling the contest, we see Eas perhaps caring for the cures and keeping her dark overlord happy in the only way she knew how already introducing us to her conflicting thoughts and personalities. This situation is met with her inevitable introduction to the same team she was trying to remove as the sixth ranger precure. But, even as a precure and as a newly-bloomed person, she still had to deal with her troubled past and the conflict of reverting, not knowing how to truly come into her own, and possibly losing all of her new friends and family. And, the conclusion of her arc clearly sees her as a person redeeming herself and learning how to deal with her past by looking forward to the future she has with her friends. I just think that there was SO much you missed to her character, and if you haven't, I would even suggest that you engage Eas one more time as to see what she's really about, this time letting yourself fully interpret everything that the show is given you even when it seems like there is really nothing there. Yes, subtlety can be a pain and make certain things seem invisible when incorrect implemented, but I absolutely promise you that this is not a case of that. If you managed to read all of this, thank you. Really. I've written quite a lot with the very real possibility of absolutely no one reading it. So, if you did read it, I am extremely appreciative. And, if you didn't, I truly understand.
I don't really think Love's line of "It's as if I was a separate person" was meant to be taken literally. More so, she wasn't strong like that before probably. Also, Love's about making sure everyone is happy. That doesn't have to include matchmaking or sticking her nose in other people's buisness every episode.
Westar, Soular, and Eas all could have had better development and redemptions. Other than that, I agree on your review on Fresh. It's a very mediocre season.
First off, I feel the exact same way about geese. -_-The ones by the river in my hometown can be really aggressive and territorial, and my childhood memories includes more than a few run-ins with the winged little bastards. Which really sucks because they're EVERYWHERE in the state I live in, and whenever I see them, I end up cowering and growling like an irate bulldog puppy. Second off, your editing skills are really on point in this review! It's really interesting to see how far you've come so far in the PreCure series. You mentioned Heartcatch is the next season, which from the positive reviews I've read is probably the one I'm going to start the series on (You know, after I get through my list of priority anime/ finishing all the anime I started last year/ watching the crap out of Clear Card and Darling in the Franxx).
thank you! i did make an effort to make this more visually engaging than the standard "i'm talking about an anime and here is footage of that anime and that is it," and i'm glad someone noticed! after this, i'm hoping i can do even better next time.
There's nowhere to go but up from here ^w^ Oh, I forgot to ask, do you plan on watching the Fate/Grand Order crossover with Garden of Sinners that's coming out soon?
You didn't notice that there weren't precure magic that fix destroyed stuff? Which is of curse isn't explained why there isn't nor in previous shows there is it. I guess it's not lot to talk about.
I agree with most of your complainings, but I did like the way Setsuna became good.. For me the main problem of Fresh is the amount of no relevant and boring episodes, the cast, with the exception of Setsuna, wasnt the best, and the mix of different themes. I still dont know what is the theme of Fresh, and the plottwist about Moebius doesnt really connect with the overall season, I dont remember technology being a thing in none of the episodes of Fresh..and the parallel worlds could have been better explored, we barely get to know them..
“Being evil for evil’s sake...” What, you mean like villains in real life? I’d hardly know of any corporate/republican leaders that do cruel, inhumane things because of a tragic backstory. Just a thought.
TBH, ive never truely finished a pretty cure serious except heart catch and thats not because of the good ratings but my age. I watched futari and got bored, skipped max heart and splash star cause it looked like the same thing. I did watch a majority of yes 5 and thought it was ok. watched very little of fresh cause well, boredom again. This all happened before the age of 10. Maybe I had high standards cause i mostly watched death note, tokyo mew mew, inuyasha, and cardcaptor at that point. But heart catch came out when I could sit through a serious before i got bored, around the age of 11/12?? And i even made friends online I could talk to about it. I remember at the time it was my favorite precure serious by far. The season after that really put a stop to my short love of pretty cure, suite precure. tbh i dont remember it but i remember i stopped watching magical girl shows after that. Years later when i was 17/18, i found a youtuber named pixielocks, who i still watch today. she is a HUGE precure fan and she inspired me to get back into it. I started maho girls and kinda liked it but according to the internet, it wasn't taken very well. then the one that really took my interest was Kirakira PreCure a la Mode. It reminded me of tokyo mew mew (theres no way the writers didnt take inspiration) and I felt was very youthful and fun with new ideas. The final villain was a bit of a miss but overall i did enjoy it. cant really say that for hugtto, most people like it but im not too invested. anyways YOU made me write this comment so dont be like WHY IS THIS RANDOM ANIME WHORE WRITING ME HER LIFE STORY. also i plan to rewatch heart catch when im done rewatching monster.
Yeah, I can def. understand getting bored with it. I'm on Heartcatch rn, liking it a lot. Haven't heard of pixielocks before, guess I'll have to check out her channel now.
There's a theory that Madoka was partly inspired by this specific series. I hope someone warned you that the Suite movie sin't filler and needs to be watched between two specific movies. The Doki Doki film should be ignored, it tried to trick us into thinking Mana is straight, she is not.
Alright, that was a hasty response, let me elaborate. The point was, in part, "the movie didn't matter, it was filler that didn't really affect the rest of the season." Which is true. The setting/characters of the movie (the monkey and camera, if I recall correctly) making a cameo appearance in an episode doesn't change that. Their appearance had no bearing on the plot, and them not being there would have made no difference aside from making that episode a little shorter. The best you could say for that appearance was it was a nice little bonus for people who saw the movie, but that doesn't change the fact that the movie had no meaningful impact on the show.
My issue with Mobius was that he felt thematically unfitting. Nothing about the Generals implied any kind of computer theme, and it doesn't really make sense for a computer to harness sadness as a key to ultimate power. That, paired with the power-up villain item, the fact Mobius could control their life spans, and Setsuna's profession as a fortune-teller really made it feel like the villain would be a dark wizard of some kind. Also, all the previous villains had some kind of direct connection with the familiars, even if it was often just something as simple as the homeland of the familiars was one of many casualties and the familiars just want to restore their home from the ruin the villains made of it. Here though, the Familiars don't have anything to do with the villains whatsoever aside from the MacGuffin just HAPPENED to land in their kingdom without them quite realizing its significance at first- they were just aware of the bad guys' existence and wanted to get in their way. I strongly disagree with your critique of Setsuna. It WAS built up. Sure, it did feel a little abrupt, but it was supposed to even in-universe, notice how she didn't officially join the team until an episode or 2 later, becomming a precure was supposed to be the final push to finish her growth into a good person, emphasis on the "push". AzenZone went over it in detail in his video about Fresh Precure, I'd recommend hearing what he had to say about it. ruclips.net/video/zvRP1TNrkZU/видео.html The dancing served a couple purposes. You yourself noted that there's often athletic precure characters, but do you know why that's a trope? It exists for a reason- pointed out to me by Kim Possible of all things, "why'd she have to be a cheerleader? If she were on the debate team, I would have vaporized her by now". Being a superhero and fighting monsters is a pretty physically-demanding job, you have to be in good shape to do it- which this series even commented on. Having an athletic hobby like playing sports or dancing gives a diagetic reason they pick up on the job so quickly. Also, it was given out of gratitude from a side-character they rescued. Lastly, while they didn't tell their closest Family and friends about their superhero careers until the last few episodes, some supporting characters knew (namely Miyuki) earlier than that, and the townspeople at least knew they existed. And they revealed to everyone else because they knew confronting the big bad was likely a suicide mission, and they didn't want everyone to be ignorant of their fates. And they went along with their parents not being cool with it because they didn't really want to be parted from their parents either, they revealed themselves because they respected their parents enough to tell them before the final showdown, that respect extended to understanding their parents would not be okay with their daughters going on a suicide mission regardless of the dire circumstances. Is the cancellation of doomsday really worth it if your daughters didn't survive it with you? Yes, they were being unreasonable, but it was a very understandable/human unreasonable. Not everyone is quite utilitarian enough to delegate the resolution of the issue to the superheroes who are obviously the only ones capable of doing so. And that Drama only lasted one episode to show the stakes, it didn't last as long as the big deal you're making out of it warrants.
I've gotten enough comments about how I'm wrong about Setsuna that I've half a mind to go back and watch every scene with her and re-examine my position, but I'm also extraordinarily lazy so I don't think that'll happen any time soon. I don't think I'm going to change my mind that the show could have communicated what was up with her better, but I do acknowledge that it's entirely possible that I missed stuff with her. I'll check out that vid when I get the chance. I absolutely know I made a big deal out of almost nothing. In my defense that segment does accurately reflect how actually mad I got at this tiny little nothing. I think my true purpose there was probably to wrangle a little fun out of something that was very not fun.
This was great can I ask where can watch the all stars movies cuz I can't find them besides that I really in joyed it and can't wait for you to see the marvel that is cure marine
Fresh is one of my favourite seasons but I get MOST of the complaints I don’t agree with all the Character complaints specifically with cure passion and cure Peach
i hate miki x.x i just willingly ignored her and suffered through miki centered episodes (good thing there aren't that many). Shallow, annoying, pushy, insensitive, boring and too full of herself...i'm surprised now as to why i've seen people list cure berry as one of their favourites, maybe it's only based on her visual design?. Cause even among this type of character she is low on the list (kirara being the better model pretty cure, minami being the better "boring and perfect" one)
ah YES the first Precure I ever watched and the one that started it all for me ~ :D I used to like Kamen Rider a lot and some sentai too, so when I realized this show came out the same year when a certain DESTYROYER of worlds and interdimensional hopper, I was more than HOOKED cuz of all the meta jokes and potential fanfic crossovers xD the designs are still some of the better looking ones imo, the dress are fairly nice though I have 4chan to thank for introducing me to some of the "lewder" versions of the cures before actually starting this series xD hahahahha people have tattoos of nonsensical foreign words on them all the time, so having a name like "Love" is face palming but not all that jarring ~ I think it was to poke fun at the troupe of white people having the word "love" tattooed onto their arms while NO-ONE in Asia does it :P I could be biased here but I think Miki and Setsuna are hot......... like just really hot .............. @_@ sure they're just 2D fictional characters but, I do like the colors purple and blue, so that may have something to do with it. While I by no means like bitchy snobs IRL, I DO like Umi from Rayearth soooooooooooooooo there's that too >.> I also like how this is the first time the 3 starting girls are in different schools and have different uniforms :O kinda cool imo ~ The villains here are the most likeable ones in all of precure from what I've seen (all 7 of em) and the most "humane" and "developed. As someone who used to be super into mecha and sci-fi the motif of the final boss really drew me in ~ The voice actor for Muscle Guy was also in a 90s mecha series called Lamune & 40 Fire and played another muscalr villain with no brain but is loveable, and was the final boss in the 1st season of Gundam 00, both are series that I loved and rewatched many times. The long hair guy is the same voice actor is the same guy who voiced Shinn Asuka from Gundam Seed Destiny, Kokuto from Kara No Kyoukai , Romani from FGO, and maaaaaaaaany more just to name a few ~ A lot of people tend to judge this series purely based on Eas and her arc of how she went from dark to light throughout her journey. Obviously it's not the "best" story of this type ever in anime or fiction history, but for a Precure series I thought it was really well done and well thought out while the rest we can just imagine in our heads, like if this was an 18+ shows Eas's "suffering" may be a bit more uh ........... gruesome :X Basically if you hate Eas / Passion you'll hate the series, but if you like her and the suffering she went through as well as moral dilemmas you may just love the series as much as I did ~ Fun Fact according to Live Journal "back in the day" before Passion came out, people thought it was gonna be the dancing instructor for suuuure 100% but BOOM the key imprinted on Eas and everyone was like : woaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh pikachu face ~ Many mecha series have this troupe where the "cool" looking villain from early season becoming a good guy half way through and has been done cooooooooooooooountless times; like Zoids, Brave series, Machine Robo Rescue, the list goes on. I like the direction that they took with this show and how it's overall mecha motif (as seen in the mechanical monsters) and aesthetics were made more robot-like and drawing in new crowds such as myself who would have otherwise ignore this franchise as a whole. But yeah seeing how the Moebius kingdom operates and how it controls the people as slaves reminds me a bit of the direction we're heading into IRL right now with big tech censorship and approaching automation for basic jobs. If we continue to let our society get out of hand our world may just end up being like theirs :X a good moral lesson for those who watched this series and understood it ~
The reason they revealed that they were precure at the end was because the didn’t know if they were going to survive the fight against mobius so they wanted their families to know the truth just in case they never got to see them again.
Fresh is one of my favorite seasons but I do see where you’re coming from with some of your complaints
Also lol the wig monster episode is definitely one of the best
Can't say I agree with most of your opinions but I still enjoyed the video. I'll be watching more of them in the future.
Enough people have mentioned Kaoru in the comments now that I'm kicking myself for not having mentioned him. I did really dig him.
Child models are everywhere such as in stores advertising clothing for children and also posing to advertise toys
YES. EPISODE 12 IS A GEM.
30:44 oh no he’s angry
(And even just thinking about other members of Team Yes, it'd be a mix of Rin and Karen and even that doesn't really work well.)
And as for that establishing scene not being important- are you really going to die on the hill that Love being a friendly and outgoing person that wants to help people and will refuse to give up, and wants everybody to be able to be happy, has absolutely no influence on pretty important aspects of Fresh's storyline?
Still can't do ducks, though.
most people desn´t know, but fresh precure does havea sequel. A short novel and it takes place a yer o so after the series ending.
Where can I find this? Please! 😣
Cure Hana there’s a whole bunch of them for all the seasons
futari wa precure also have a novel. i’m pretty sure most of them do.
If this review is any indication, you’re probably gonna have a bad time when you reach Doki Doki and Happiness Charge, particularly with both of their second halves.
consider me morbidly curious.
Doki Doki is probably the best season, literally not a single episode can be considered Filler.
8:39...I remember almost every season saying the same thing along the lines of "what did I just say?" And same w a ferret, was staying at a friend's as a kid, theirs got loose crawled in bed that night and bit a chunk of my face off that I have a permanent scar from.
0:03 fresh
Lol I laughed like crazy... (especially at parent part...) Also, 22:25 cure dream reference? Also, I honestly wish they had more identity reveals, and the few that DO reveal are usually (if not always) at the end .... though in Happiness Charge, few people DO find out near beginning/middle (and I love the reveals there)
Echo Mist oh goody, that's something to look forward to :)
Kyubey started laughing the second it started fresh fresh fresh
And I am glad to hear that you might do reviews for the other seasons in the future
Maybe I do disagree with Setsuna part, because she is in my top 5 precure character in the franchise.
No worries, your English is fine! Glad you enjoyed the video!
MAKING PRECURE GREAT AGAIN! 0:37
We live in a sucky generation 😅
12:23 Why the sudden Madoka Magica music?
why not?
Cause he finds young modeling creepy
Heartcatch will not disappoint. It's my favorite PreCure out of all the seasons.
Also, after Heartcatch, are you going to review the rest of them?
yep.
What did you think about the Miracle Lights they used in the movies?
A hilarious reminder of how Precure is also a vehicle thru which Toei markets and sells toys to children.
Heartcatch is the worst season! The plot is full of bullshit, and the fairies produce a lot of it. Feel free to ask me to clarify what I mean.
Moddie yay, clarify!
Well...Urara has a French word as her name, and I never seen any French named their daughters ooh là là yet.
well.... i have drastically different opinion
i never was an analitic, i never study movie composition, but i purely enjoyed this season (yes 5 gogo i skiped entirely , i hated 4th season so much, well i later did watched it but as a bad comedy) and i am not even an english speaking person, and my background might be actually a cultural difference that make that difference in opinion possible.
17:31 Also yea this is a reference to the previous season, indeed, because when I paused it I couldn't see anything wrong, but then I realized that they are kinda like the yes 5 girls but with different colors and slightly different hairstyles
the villain is a supercomputer that takes out your freedom
I NOTICED THAT MAGIA RECORD BACKGROUND MUSIC
You could see on the faces of the cures that they thought they wouldn’t come back
I gave up and came back to watch the rest of this video.
I'm surprised you didn't talk about the 3D animation for the 2 EDs (as the previous 5 seasons all had 2D endings - and you know how anime is with 3D animation, especially back when Fresh was made)
What's your overall score on it (out of 10)?
Fair enough - you did make a pretty long video
And it's nice to know you have an overall positive outlook on the season (as it's one of my favourites to-date)
And I know what you mean about a personal scoring system that fluctuates - I'd probably have to update everything on my MAL account every month just to make sure my scores remain consistent.
But yeah, let's hope Heartcatch doesn't let you down (I doubt it - fantastic season) Have fun watching it
Miki is legit my least favorite Blue Cure of all time. Lol
I never knew why but you explained it *perfectly* for me.
i love your intro already lol
Toei giving a character an english word for a name in a very japanese series? Yeah, watch half of super sentai.
The video: "-He's certainly a blight-"
Me, who was half asleep: *falls off my bed* CHAD?!
13:02 more like a your name thing
I don't really think Love's line of "It's as if I was a separate person" was meant to be taken literally. More so, she wasn't strong like that before probably.
Also, Love's about making sure everyone is happy. That doesn't have to include matchmaking or sticking her nose in other people's buisness every episode.
I agree that Setsuna becoming a Cure was terribly done but even after that she didn't stand out much. She just followed Love around mostly.
Westar, Soular, and Eas all could have had better development and redemptions. Other than that, I agree on your review on Fresh.
It's a very mediocre season.
The same thing with the ducks happened to me once when I was small, but the only thing I thought was:
Gross it's wet!
And ducks Don't have teeth!
Geese do.
Episode 28, hope to finish this week, not much to be able to watch this video!
There's nowhere to go but up from here ^w^ Oh, I forgot to ask, do you plan on watching the Fate/Grand Order crossover with Garden of Sinners that's coming out soon?
i do not plan on watching it
You didn't notice that there weren't precure magic that fix destroyed stuff? Which is of curse isn't explained why there isn't nor in previous shows there is it.
I guess it's not lot to talk about.
I definitely felt the same way about the parents.
“Being evil for evil’s sake...”
What, you mean like villains in real life?
20:45 why didn't you mention Wall-e?
There's a theory that Madoka was partly inspired by this specific series.
I hope someone warned you that the Suite movie sin't filler and needs to be watched between two specific movies.
The Doki Doki film should be ignored, it tried to trick us into thinking Mana is straight, she is not.
Your complete wrong about fresh’s movie because the toy kingdom appeared in a fresh episode
I...know that?
Alright, that was a hasty response, let me elaborate. The point was, in part, "the movie didn't matter, it was filler that didn't really affect the rest of the season." Which is true. The setting/characters of the movie (the monkey and camera, if I recall correctly) making a cameo appearance in an episode doesn't change that. Their appearance had no bearing on the plot, and them not being there would have made no difference aside from making that episode a little shorter. The best you could say for that appearance was it was a nice little bonus for people who saw the movie, but that doesn't change the fact that the movie had no meaningful impact on the show.
Tyranno I know that but at least had some continuity with the show
Tyranno even though it doesn’t affect anything it’s nice little nod
best bit:
holy shit love you're a badass
AzenZone went over it in detail in his video about Fresh Precure, I'd recommend hearing what he had to say about it. ruclips.net/video/zvRP1TNrkZU/видео.html
The dancing served a couple purposes.
Tyranno be sure to watch all 3 parts, the link I provided is only part 1.
You're underrated
0:05 cracked me up 🤣😂😂
Did you know the yes 5 gogo movie had a short film before it that was a crossover between the 11 cures
I cannot say I was aware of that, thx for pointing it out.
This was great can I ask where can watch the all stars movies cuz I can't find them besides that I really in joyed it and can't wait for you to see the marvel that is cure marine
I don't know where to find them, I haven't seen them either. Sorry :(
Here hoping we'll both see them...
One day
Try kissanime
10:12 heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey there's Dream.
I'm ok with Love's name because I have a classmate named Love or the Greek version of the name Αγάπη (Agapi)
33:24
I thought it was a vibrator
I always thought Love was weird for the main character's name
Where you take the videos
I won't go on about it since someone already commented on it. But you really missed the mark on Setsuna's arc.
Fresh is one of my favourite seasons but I get MOST of the complaints I don’t agree with all the Character complaints specifically with cure passion and cure Peach
This season had better improve transportations
I just finished watching Yes! Precure 5 gogo!
I need to know what website you watched Fresh Precure on?
Did you forget that Love and Setsuna are stepsisters?
Fresh pretty cure is not dubbed in english only first season and glitter force the other precure series are not dubbed
Actually the movies are canon in a sense thanks to AzenZone.
i hate miki x.x i just willingly ignored her and suffered through miki centered episodes (good thing there aren't that many). Shallow, annoying, pushy, insensitive, boring and too full of herself...i'm surprised now as to why i've seen people list cure berry as one of their favourites, maybe it's only based on her visual design?. Cause even among this type of character she is low on the list (kirara being the better model pretty cure, minami being the better "boring and perfect" one)
ah YES the first Precure I ever watched and the one that started it all for me ~ :D I used to like Kamen Rider a lot and some sentai too, so when I realized this show came out the same year when a certain DESTYROYER of worlds and interdimensional hopper, I was more than HOOKED cuz of all the meta jokes and potential fanfic crossovers xD
the designs are still some of the better looking ones imo, the dress are fairly nice though I have 4chan to thank for introducing me to some of the "lewder" versions of the cures before actually starting this series xD
hahahahha people have tattoos of nonsensical foreign words on them all the time, so having a name like "Love" is face palming but not all that jarring ~ I think it was to poke fun at the troupe of white people having the word "love" tattooed onto their arms while NO-ONE in Asia does it :P
I could be biased here but I think Miki and Setsuna are hot......... like just really hot .............. @_@ sure they're just 2D fictional characters but, I do like the colors purple and blue, so that may have something to do with it. While I by no means like bitchy snobs IRL, I DO like Umi from Rayearth soooooooooooooooo there's that too >.>
I also like how this is the first time the 3 starting girls are in different schools and have different uniforms :O kinda cool imo ~
The villains here are the most likeable ones in all of precure from what I've seen (all 7 of em) and the most "humane" and "developed. The long hair guy is the same voice actor is the same guy who voiced Shinn Asuka from Gundam Seed Destiny, Kokuto from Kara No Kyoukai , Romani from FGO, and maaaaaaaaany more just to name a few ~
A lot of people tend to judge this series purely based on Eas and her arc of how she went from dark to light throughout her journey. Obviously it's not the "best" story of this type ever in anime or fiction history, but for a Precure series I thought it was really well done and well thought out while the rest we can just imagine in our heads, like if this was an 18+ shows Eas's "suffering" may be a bit more uh ........... gruesome :X Basically if you hate Eas / Passion you'll hate the series, but if you like her and the suffering she went through as well as moral dilemmas you may just love the series as much as I did ~ Fun Fact according to Live Journal "back in the day" before Passion came out, people thought it was gonna be the dancing instructor for suuuure 100% but BOOM the key imprinted on Eas and everyone was like : woaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh pikachu face ~
Many mecha series have this troupe where the "cool" looking villain from early season becoming a good guy half way through and has been done cooooooooooooooountless times; like Zoids, Brave series, Machine Robo Rescue, the list goes on.
If we continue to let our society get out of hand our world may just end up being like theirs :X a good moral lesson for those who watched this series and understood it ~
How long did it take you to watch?
Started Dec 31, finished Jan 21. So, 22 days.
Tyranno damn.
I ageee that this series is pretty ok, but that opening song never grew on me. It’s just screaming
Actually the movies are technically canon
