- Have you ever fished a jig and wondered: "Will this random soft plastic I have work as a trailer?" Well in this video, I take what I saw in a recent tournament and put that to the test, to see if straight worms can be effective as jig trailers! Before I even watch the video....berkley done a test with a craw style bait. They started to remove the appendages or the pinchers and the more they removed the more and the quicker the fish would eat the bait. It's a defenseless craw so this is why the ned jig works so well. Sometimes it takes a minute for us to understand or realize or think about these type of scenarios as anglers. We are so Uber focused on presentations, conditions, colors, baits etc that we fail to think of the si.ple things.
I’ve been throwing spunk shads and caffeine shads on swim jigs for a while and almost always get more action with the soft jerk bait trailers than I do with paddle tail trailers
@@BOOTEDUPFLORIDAOUTDOORSinteresting thanks for sharin
That immediately came to mind for me as well.
Yeah I saw that years ago
I have definitely noticed a difference after my craw loses a claw They Slam it! 😀
Scott’s underwater footage of this really shows the likeness to a craw in defensive position. I love it!
This video confirms my theory that smaller bass are more likely to avoid large pinchers and the big bass aren’t intimidated by them. Hence catching more numbers with the worm trailer yet the biggest bass went for the craw trailer.
I totally could see that hypothesis being true
I love how you always let us know about new things to try. One of my favorite things is trying new lures or casting methods. Now I’m gonna go watch your bass master bible study video again, great job Tyler. 👍🏼
You bet!
I was actually throwing a Ned trailer on a Bitsy Bug today and was slayin em! Came home and this was on my feed😂
It's Bitsy Bug all day for me too bud.
That’s amazing!
Next time yall do the “fish catching” test. Yall should switch rods every time someone catches a bass since one person might have a different fishing style than the other person.
Greg Blanchard was the first guy I really saw fishing the Ned Jig and having success with it.
and it being a smaller finesse jig to. not those big football ounce jigs!
I need to downsize it too
I am trying to up my jig game this year so this video is much needed! Thanks Tyler!
Same!
Good luck!
I was legitimately asking this question with my buddies for a couple weeks now, awesome you made this video, thank you!
Happy to help!
I was throwing skirted ned last fall on an Ozark creek. I caught a few. Thanks for doing the comparisons. I love these kinds of videos.
Glad you like them!
It’s a good day when Tyler posts
Yeah it is
It’s a good day when you comment!
Tyler you’ve taught me so much in just 2 weeks, god bless
Heck yeah, love to hear that!
I would agree. Recently got into bass fishing and have learned so much from your content. Thank you. Without it I probably wouldn’t be into bass fishing still and so thank you.
Im not even kidding I saw this video as I was fishing a jig
You look at RUclips while you fish ?
Fr seems like fishing a jig is an activity not compatible w/ watching vids lol
@@weldon9254 I once watched part of "On Any Sunday" while riding my motorcycle.
@@krum81when fishing gets bad put the ol’ airpods in set the phone up down by ur live scope and watch some fishing breakdowns 😂 you might learn something WHILE YOUR FISHING!!!
Wild haha!
I caught my pb 12 pounder on a straight tail worm on a jig. Didn’t really think about it until you released this as ive tried fishing my jig with a craw since and havent had the success in the pond ive gone too. This friday imma put the yoto worm back on.
I’m gonna use it too
@@TylersReelFishing funny enough after this comment i went fishing this saturday and caught a 6.5 pounder on the same watermelon jig and yoto worm. Must be juiced
I've caught a bunch of fish on Toledo Bend throwing a missle baits mini flip with a Ned style worm on it all summer through this spring... I've even thrown it at fish on livescope and they tend to run it down to the bottom or eat it while I'm swimming it past them similarly to how I do with a minnow. It works and it's a bite getter for sure... Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
Those are some nice jigs. I really wish they made a version of it with a wire weed guard, but I love the head and hooks on them.
Definitely something I’m gonna use more often
Thank you Tyler for the AWESOME VIDEO ! God Bless you sir !
Glad you enjoyed it!
I like it how you take ya time and went down with this. Sum new for me too Tyler! Gonna try it this spring, soon once it’s opener. One more month left
Give it a shot!
This video is awesome. Gonna try this setup this next fishing trip.
Good luck!
“Old fashion chunkaroo” I’m sorry but I’m stealing that🤣
I would’ve never thought… 🤔 Tyler, thank you for thee amazing insight
Give it a try yourself!
Beautiful lake - I live in MN and never get tired of seeing the different lakes.
I can't catch a fish on a jig to save my life. I will keep trying.
In Minnesota they are SO GOOD! Get yourself a juice jig or stealth feider, and hop it around grass edges! You’ll gain confidence quick
Perfect timing!
So glad!
Really interesting, I'm going to try it. Although for me the best part was watching you deal with the pike - especially getting bit off. All I can say is welcome to the party pal!
They are slimy suckers!
Technique definitely works ... We've been throwing ripped Senkos on the back of our jigs on Cherokee and Douglas Lakes since the 90s here in East Tennessee
I can see why!
I know this is heresy but I actually have a blast catching pickerel 😂
I enjoyed this video a lot, BTW. You seemed really relaxed compared to most of your videos where you’re so polished-which is great too! But it’s fun to see you acting like you’re in your 20s sometimes! 😅
Just sub to your channel Tyler and a huge thank you to someone returning back to the fishing game. Not that I wanna be a pro fishermen or anything but just knowing my stuff is very good so thank you.
Awesome! Thank you!
Love the video Tyler, been enjoying all the videos dropping lately. I was wondering what the best power rod is for throwing a jig.
MH Fast or H Fast
@@TylersReelFishing Ok thanks
I’m wondering if the inspiration came from the “strolling” technique that came around. I know hating on livescope is the thing now, but it is a great teaching tool. Awesome video.
I caught all my best smallies last spring on this exact rig. Been doing it for a awhile now
I started doing this about 6yrs ago with a ned, works great in the spring
I could see it!
Been doing this for a couple of years. Always worked for me here in Arizona. Crazy its trending upward for something I thought would be a cool and different look/presentation cause I ran out of craws lol
Definitely something to try more often I think!
Excellent. I've caught 6.7472 tons of LM & Spots on a 1/8 & 3/16 oz Missile Baits Micro jig with a TRD trailer.
It definitely catches bigger fish than I had thought!
I would agree, but I have had the exact same color, and size craw and different brands. One caught lots of fish and the other wouldn't get a strike. I use to believe fish are hungry they bite anything. I only wish that were true. Thanks for the video it was fun watching.
Thanks for sharing!
Can’t wait to do this.
It’s definitely something I want to try more of
Fire video bro 🔥
Thanks 🔥
Great video tyler!!!
Thanks!!
Picked this up from the kayak angler Greg Blanchard. He kills em with this combo.
I need to text him about it
Tyler, the bitsy bug finesse jig with zoom jr z-craw trailer turned vertical with the bottom appendage removed was my go to jig for the past few months. Got bites behind other anglers and some of the biggest bass I've caught all year.
I believe it!
Let's go fishing next time you're in Jackson MS filming! There's some fantastic state managed smaller water all around.
I've been using zman turds as jig trailers for a couple years now and I've honestly had so much more success by doing that instead of a craw or any other type of trailer.
i been using this for about 2 years won lots of money on it great setup
Differences like this don't matter as much in states like florida where you can catch bass with pieces of hotdogs, but here in the mile high state these fish are smart and you really have to pay attention to how you can trick them into looking like a injured bait fish etc... thanks for the vid
Yes for sure!
Great video and information
Glad it was helpful!
Interesting technique, I might try this soon! I feel like it would do good in conditions where the want less movement like in colder weather
Yes I could see that
I love using a 6th sense Shaky head worm , or a zoom trick worm but the extra large style on my jig. Its got the thin section with the Bobbish end.
For sure!
I've been using a 3" and 4" straight tail worm as jig trailers for years, especially on smallmouth fisheries. I will positively say that this system absolutely will out fish a craw style trailer in cold or pressured waters.
Seeing all of these comments definitely makes me want to try this even more consistently
Been doing this forever i fish a lot of ponds plus the Potomac River it works
So cool to hear y’all having success with this
A couple years ago I was out fishing and I was tying on a jig but I didn't have any soft plastics to match the colors of the jig so I decided to put on a ned worm and put it on the jig because the colors match up perfectly it was amazing how many fish I cought that time and many times after that it just came normal to me
Very cool!
...the other day I caught my PB with a Strike King craw that had one of it's flappers/pinchers bit off. 6.5 lb
I got some zman brown and orange neds and a brown and orange jig to try this year. I have had luck on those colors in the past on a fly.
Nice!
Unreal cold water trailer. Once water hits < 55 degrees, I have it tied on. Some of my best bites came fishing it during a partial freeze. … I also use it on a swim jig during late fall around wood.
Hmm, on a swim jig? Interesting
@@TylersReelFishing oh yeah, I ran out of swimbait trailers for my swim jig last fall and all I had with me were stick baits. Cut one down and ended up catching them even better. In the colder water temps of the northeast, if an keitech easy shiner isn’t producing i now put on a cut down stick bait and will catch them swimming it by wood, cement structures.
Hey Tyler please do a video on the rooster tail lure. ive caught so many bass on those
That’s usually not one that I use a whole lot of, but I can hopefully find a way to incorporate it!
I want that shirt! Did u cut out a hole for the go pro? Or does it come like that?
I cut a hole. You can buy one with my merch brand on it here: nfntoutdoors.com
Im not lying when i couldn't afford other baits or find baits like senkos neds and worms i was using them on jigs myself it actually works now im more fortunate to do both and much more but less to say this works
Tyler how do you feel about fire craw? I'm in AZ and I'm learning jigs, been watching your videos on jigs and styles. But colors. Is red craw worth it?
Red can totally work, especially in colder water. I’ve got a craw video coming out soon
Can you use the same trailers on your jig and put them on your spinnerbait
i think it may be for the silouette, staying a bit more compact it should allow to get in the covers and in brush piles better? only reason that comes into my mind tbh
Could be
I feel like the idea behind the worm trailer is to eliminate the time spent replacing craw trailers due to losing claws
Great video
Thanks!
been having success doing this on Austin with a ball head finesse jig w/ a Neb worm
Heck yeah!
So what you’re saying is when the little ones bite my little flappy things off of my rage bug I don’t need to put a new one on?
i caught a 5 pounder on the jig today and had atleast a 4.8 on a jig come off bent out my hook i was using 20 pound fluoro carbon 7’0 heavy fast drag locked down since i was in trees what jig has the best hook on it truly
I’ve never even come close to bending out an OutKast Tackle jig. You can find them linked in the video description.
Good video 👍
Thanks 👍
I have T shirts older than you. But thanks for the info. Think this would work with a handline ?
I mean, I guess anything could work in that way? I’ve never hand lined.
@@TylersReelFishing Neither have I . But I wanna try something new.
I have a few Ned worms which haven't caught anything. We don't have smallmouth here in my SoCal lake, and lots of hazards underwater so the Ned rig just gets snagged.
Now I think I know how I will use them with reckless abandonment. Bye Ned!
Are the SK jigs any good? Hate the rattling ones tho that they sell at Walmart
I work with Outkast, not SK when it comes to jigs
Try a blue/ black jig with GPumpkin trailer. Bit muddy down here though
Love that combo
Up here in the north we count the pike!
Ive never saw and or met a person that was disappointed after catching a pike?!?
Well now ya have! Haha
@TylersReelFishing what a weird coincidence, I literally just caught a pretty good pike, I got too excited and didn't measure or weigh it... It's been a while!
Don't get me wrong, a nice phat bass is all I dream about, but something about a gator bite and fight makes me as excited as a little kid 🤟
Do you have no interest in pike fishing?
@TylersReelFishing not to get all "fan boy" on you, but I'm about to go fan boy on you!!!
I started REALLY fishing last spring and have had AMAZING success, all because of your videos! I could almost say you taught me how to properly fish and respect the water life!
Thank you for all the information and entertainment
it always seemed as though i’d get bit faster when i’d lose a claw i always wondered about this
Definitely could be some anecdotal science behind that!
It definitely looks like a Gobi down there so makes sense on northern lakes.
I could see that!
What size jigs were you throwing you didn't mention that our maybe you did and I didn't hear that part
OutKast juice jig. It’s linked in the video description
I’ve been using chunks of senko on a jig for a long time 😂
Save money 🤝🏼 catch fish
The ned jig…. Its a powerful tool! 2 killers in one
For sure!
this is another bulkier look to the ned rig but the jig has to be a football style like the beast coast open water sniper
Nice
Mikey Balzz fishing has been doing it for years. And has caught a lot of giants doing it.
Yeah I think I’ve seen that
What is your favorite rod/reel combo
It’s hard to beat this one: bit.ly/3I4ALrP
Another Jig video!!!!! Even though I never put one down theres still alot to learn
For sure!
Spoiler Alert... you can achieve the same results with no trailer. I fished a northern open at Champlain a few years back and the well named pro I was paired with was alternating between the same jig with and without a trailer. He won the tournament .
I'm thinking I'll stay with the craw because it can also imitate a blue gill. Two for 1!
Yep!
I don’t think it matters. But I did notice one thing that might. The pros were fishing for smallies and it seemed like you guys were on a largemouth lake.
Maybe there is an advantage using a ned bait as a trailer when fishing for smallmouth. I don’t know 🤷🏼♂️.
Definitely something to consider
👍
Tyler took you long to get “seasoned”. I’ve been fishing senkos on jigs since I knew what a trailer was
That’s fantastic
You almost face-flipped that last fish. I missed if you mentioned your jig weight--I'm wondering how much difference in fall rate would exist between the two trailers with a lighter weight jighead.
I think we were both using half ounce. That would definitely be something I’m curious about.
How about muddy water or murky? How about fishing at night? I always think that more action in those conditions is better because when you need to search the fish this makes more sense? I don't have much confidence to finesse fish at night
Black and blue jig and trailer
@@TylersReelFishing Do you use smaller baits or baits with less action to search fish in those conditions when bigger reaction type baits don't get a bite?
strike king makes the best jigs no cap
Some good ones! I like OutKast tackle more though. Been with them 5 years
i need help finding ponds or public bank fishing areas around me any help?
Google earth a TON
So it may not catch more but does it last longer
For sure
Been doing it for a while. Instead of jig and pig I do what i call jig and eel. I use ribbon tale in Weeds.
Haha nice!
Been doing this for years
Ah yes as Greg Blanchard calls it, the Ned Jig.
Cool!
Inspired by Greg Blanchard…? 🤔 Been waiting for this one!
I don’t watch much other fishing RUclips (don’t have time), but I’ll text him about it!
@@TylersReelFishing Yeah he uses a finesse football jig with a ned trailer during the winter.
I thought I was the only person who uses a ned size plastic as a trailer
You’re not!
this guy has charlie moore energy
Never heard of him, but just looked him up and he has great hair. I’ll Take it!
Aggies + Math = 🤯
We are the best at it
I did this the other day with my girl cuz I ran out of rage bugs and she caught one first cast
Who would’ve thought?😂
I use a straight-tail worm all the time for a jig trailer not because it's better but because it's economical. Who doesn't have a bag of broken worms? Yeah I know, I'm cheap.
You are not wrong about that!
My friend was fishing with worms and he looks down at my jig and trailer and he’s just like “interesting..” bro we both cracked up. Are they silly to fish with? It seemed dumb when I started to think about it. But idk haven’t had luck with anything in particular.
Literally looks like an alien to me.
Fish definitely bite the most interesting things! Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason, other times it’s incredibly specific. That’s all part of the game!
@@TylersReelFishing the Tyler Reel! Thank you for your response 🙌🏼 I just got back in to fishing and I’m loving it! The scenery and chillin with my bros is awesome. I get it lol. Just bank fishing for now. Thanks for your content! I learn a lot from it.
Not remotely new - 7 inch Senko is a standard jig trailer south of the border and has been for years - nice underwater footage though.
Never said it was new
Never heard of this jig company.
Your years behind the program
Glad I caught up now!
Learned this from Greg Blanchard. Not sure where he learned it
Probably older than we all think
