OK, here's a take: Reason why I hope this won't get a remake is the same reason why there's no map editor and why you wont find stuff like this anywhere nowdays. I think the map is not build with assets but its rather pixel art. All the layering, all the different transitionpoint are manually included. Well, you could make an editor for it but at that point you can just make another game and it wont necessairily work perspektive wise. Someday maybe we can use an AI to create such maps but ... well it srsly takes time and dedication to make such a game. A LOT of time
@@maxmeinert3203 fake, i dont know from where you got your information, but a bunch of modders included myself released a map editor where you can edit all missions and change enemies, for now you cannot spawn npc's but in a future you will be able to :)
I just can’t believe that there isn’t a similar game like that one today. That game was a good one; I played it around 17-18 years ago. OMG, I feel so old!
Same here. Unluckily the game had slow down and crashes on my PC so much that I was able to do only a few missions leading up to mission where you cannot kill any soldiers. I don't remember if I was able to complete that one.
I cry everytime I finish this game. I dont know how to describe it. The soundtrack, the beautiful background, the characters, the two cutscenes, they all make a kind of atmosphere that makes me wish they was no end to this game. I wish there was a sequel so that I could see the characters once more.
My problem with this game is the same as with Desperados 1: I'm secretly rooting for the enemies. (That's because I'm Martin Kuppe, the guy who wrote the AI.)
So many memories ! Its crazy that this games made in 90's, early 2000's are beautiful. I love the design of this kind of game. I find it too in wargame game "Cossack 2: napoleonic wars".
I played this game over a 1000 times not joking. I wish there was a resmaster or a part 2. I'm so sad till today that the game is not continued or extended.
My favourite mission was and always be the York siege, 0 shield bought, 0 killed, difficult Hard. Also for those who want or will play this game there a secret siege mission of Lincoln, if you lose the castle you'll have to defend Leicester at all cost otherwise gane lost, then there will a counter attack to re capture Lincoln. there is a guide on how to do Lincoln 0 death too just search up this game 0 kills challenge and you'll be fine.
I just started playing Desperados 3 after not playing any games of this genre for many years and while playing remembered playing this game as a kid with a friend. I think we only ever accomplished the first 2 or 3 missions and played them time after time again, as after that it got too hard for us back then, but nevertheless it was really fun to play. We always tried to be as stealthy as possible and not use the Sword fighting mechanic. Thanks for the little ride through nostalgia!
I came into this after playing commandos. I was so happy to see a game with sinilar style but with medieval settings. But the joy was short lived when the game actually played very sluggishly on my potato PC. But even then I was so determined that I played through a lot of the missions. But at one point the game started crashing. I thought about starting it again once but couldn't find any physical copies but now I can see it listed on Steam.
I loved commandos back in the day. Will try this one out. In this genre, if you had to pick one title, which one would you say has everything. i.e. graphics, gameplay and mechanics, and story.
It's not only one of my favorite childhood game, but I also love book about Robin Hood. I read it so many times as a kid that a lot of pages felt apart :) Music is really nostalgic in the game, can't deny :)
I played a ton out of Commandos in my childhood. A concept I can't grasp anymore though a a game design student is the save spamming... I'll buy this one, because of your review and is is cheaper as hell right now on GOG...
Man, I grew up playing this game. I've played it through at least 15 times. At least. I wonder why the replayability of recent games is not as good as it was in this game's case. Or is it about being a kid when you'd watch the same movie twice in a row? Idk
8/10 is a very positive rating of a game which has both major upsides and downsides alike. I mean, you just mentioned what mostly missing from the game what I totally agree with but I feel like this review still feels empty, because there's way too much thing what this particular review could have contained, not because of your method of speech about the game, but because the game itself has a tons of hidden positive and negative surprises alike, unlike any other game from it's respective genre, but let's talk about the downsides you can only meet with during a fair amount of time in gameplay: - Lack of essential tutorials as those are superficial, alias you have to realize and improvise everything by yourself without any hint even tho new abilities are introduced later in the game. - Horseman knights are extremely difficult to deal with and no tools are out there take them down effectively unless you have environmental traps, you wouldn't rely on to that for some sort of thing like a mounted knight. - Really lacking of resources requires you to collect them on missions and Merry Men to craft them and so as missing opportunity of shopping them from your really very rich money stock. - Sherwood does not benefit from your Merry Men's productivity after each quick missions. Resources produced from them rather happens after each major "castle-based" missions. We can agree on that the game is really good eitherway and even I would rate it somewhere like 8/10 despite the problems with it as those are not something too frustrating to live together with.
1st, I love how you showed how you stormed Gisborne's wedding without ringing the bell! That's one of the biggest challenges imo 2nd, I'm mistified about the clips you showed the the mission to rescue Robin Hood: you had already rescued him and added him to your band, but hadn't visited both jails? Can you tell me how that works/is there a trick that I don't know about?
Never finished the game. I loved the early game and likted the midgame but the lategame just has too much padding and feels very repetative with the forest missions and the colorswaps.
My favorite childhood game. Everything about this game is perfect. ❤
Relatable.
This game is still incredible even after all the years. I hope they make a remake in the future.
That would be awesome!

I'm still listening to the soundtrack from this game.

O_O
If this is true, I'll take the opportunity to say you helped create 2 of the most excellent computer games in existence.
Thank you!
If you're actually that person, then thank you! This game and the desperados game are easily my top favorite games of all time.
Honestly love the aesthetic of this game.
I grew up with this game, I loved this game so much! Is so nostalgic from my childhood. We need a remake of this beautiful game!!

Yess!!! Or a full new game.
I had demo of this game as a kid and I loved it to bits, soo happy that it was a part of my childhood
This game is the best interpretation of the robin hood story in my opinion
Hope you enjoyed the review. Want me to check out any other games? Let me know in the comments!

What kind of graphic is this? So beautiful it is like hand drawn.

Nice Review, thanks for making the video for indecisive folks like me.
Glad you enjoyed it! Good luck on the game.

This game was too frustrating for 12-year-old brain. But I always wanted to finish it, so I still have it.
It's one of my favourite games of all time. Mostly because of the ambiance, jumping on roofs is always fun too.
Love your review!
thanks for the review man, it was such an awesome game

What a trip to memory lane! BTW, Leicester is pronounced "Lester"
Thank you! I hate butchering words, so always like knowing how to say it!
Yes! Map editor! The biggest thing missing in this game
I grew up with this 😀
This and Desperados kicked so much ass.
It really is! Check out Mimimi games. The rebooted Desperados with the same feel.
1:45 You don't just steal from the rich in this game, you are not a communist, or some normal criminal, you steal from tyrants and corrupt people.
“Lee-kester”
This good and best game Robin Hood sherwood
I adore this game ❤️
I absolutely love this game but still gave that lag problem on my PC
❤️❤️❤️
such a good game
draw alpha icon to make power move
Would buy but no mention of scaling/resolution/widescreen stuff, tired of refunding old games that don't have a 1:1 mouse.
This game is 10x better the hood outlaws and legends. I loved this game i played it on mac
For those who love Robin Hood read a book by howard pyle
A german game, but the Company doesnt exist anymore.
