What the movie truly misses is the script writing genius of Warren Skaaren one of my closest friends in Austin till his untimely death at 44 years. The narrative structure, and especially dialogue...that was what Warren brought to all the movies he worked on... including his linchpin role in Batman (Burton's).
I agree. As soon as I saw the title I agreed with you. It’s crazy really. All the other reviewers are praising the movie and I thought maybe I’d agree with them. Nope I sure don’t.
Decades of coming up with a story and the stars demand more screen time when the story should center on the new girl, her new boyfriend tricking her, and beetlejuice helping while still trying to trick them.
Hollywood used to create new original ips which they could rely on for income, of which when that ip had done its job, the ip ended up in a vault with the aim of making room for the next ip. Then when the time was right, they bring out their older ips, with the aim of making new movies, which for us movie goers was a treat, as we usually had to wait 10-20 years for a classic ip return. example the return of Star wars with ep 1 was some massive news, same goes for Terminator 3. Nowdays it seems that Hollywood only bets on their older ips, which means that they will not have any new ips to build up in their vault, but they will only have their already milked ips.
Actually this review is kind of uplifting, I was expecting terrible, like maliciously bad.. but you're saying mediocre , which is just normal for Hollywood now
Yeah brother I do like Sleepy Hollow myself..... that is a very very very very very underrated movie and it will be watched a few times here in about 30 days come October
I would give it like a 7/10 and I hate most sequels especially legacy sequels. It had problems but I had fun overall and I would be down for one more movie if Burton, Keaton, Ryder and others return.
I agree that there was too many plots in this movie; Lydia and her marriage, Beetle's ex, the ghost kid, the cop. Too many characters and not all of them are developped except the ones we know. Lydia is more brave, the aunt is empathic and tries to comfort her, Beetlejuice is less evil than before... i guess working during years made him realise what a jerk he was with Lydia? At least, he helped her to save Astrid which is nice. He didn't forced her to marry him too 😄 Bob was funny, the music was nice and i like that we explore more the underworld. This was fun! Dolores is not there often! Her power is scary but she never did something to the heroes. Why this character was there if she did nothing important? The movie is fine, not amazing but not boring either. I give it a 6|10 🙂
i like it but they rushed the ending. the serial killer and the ex wife got defeated too easily. The mom missed her husband so bad, they couldve made her adapt the deal from the serial killer to make bj be able to live in the real world in exchange for Lydia changing her mind about marriage. Lydia's boyfriend couldve actually been good and helped her defeat the ex wife for bj. missed opportunity.
Hollyweird movies today are the perfect example of most entertainment today..There's some good here and there..But a lot of it really sucks!.. Cause of bad writing and recycling ideas..that were done way better before..
I won't say amazing! The ghost kid was not very interresting, Beetle's ex too and she was barely there... why puts this character in the movie if she did nothing important? The ending is hard to understand, the ghost cop is not funny or entertaining. The movie is not bad but not incredible either. It's nice you liked it, i think it's ok; a 6|10.
@@ladypool1404 I would go 7/10 but pretty much agree with you. Bellucci and Dafoe had nothing to do here. Evil ghost kid could've been a great villain if they would've focused more on him.
It is a convoluted mess, too many subplots winding around each other, I agree with that assessment and I am disappointed as well, but IMPORTANTLY to me, it was a Beetlejuice movie, it was still fun and not woke. It did not change the characters for the MMMMmmmaaaaaaahhhhhhhhddd-e-r-n Ahhhhhhhhhhdience. For that reason, I went to see it twice, I am glad it is doing well at the box office.
0:50 What has he made in the last decade that hasn't been forgettable garbage? Having his name attached to Wednesday doesn't count, that wasn't his story. Too many of these "once beloved" directors have fizzled out in their old age. Especially Tim Burton and Riddley Scott. On another note, glad you seem to be feeling better.
Well, I did specify that I was a fan of "early" Tim Burton. Yeah, he hasn't been the same in recent years, but I'm always rooting for him to get his act together.
it was decent. It could have been a hell of a lot worse. Seems like the cool thing to do at the moment is just dislike all the movies out and drama farm. I went in to it after seeing a few RUclipsrs give it 1/10's and 5/10's, so thought "okay its going to be dog shit." But had a few genuine laughs, and a few jumpscares too. And I dont scare easy in films. I found IT to be tame and boring, FNAF games are just assaults on your senses and Jeepers Creepers makes me buck in the chair but thats it. But this film had a genuine "ahh" out of me twice.
I agree. Man everyone is so negative these days. Was it perfect? No but I still had a good time. I thought willem dafoe was hilarious in his role. Keaton did great. Everyone else was fine. Surprisingly no one is calling this woke ha ha. You know whenever I hear someone start their argument with it wax woke. Their opinion immediately doesn't matter to me.
It was ok. But no, I looked for fun in this Beetlejuice sequel myself and yet STILL got bothered by all the uneven uses of all the plots and this is the second time we watch Jenna Ortega get tricked by some boy who turns out to be a ghost/monster, another Alfred Gough-Millar writing disaster
@@adamandannaLet me tell you then. Beetlejuice and Lydia for the most part carried the movie, but everything else was a snooze. I'm literally a colored asian myself so I'm not even going to start with trying to explain how I'm not blaming anything on "woke", the movie is simply badly-written.
It's not a "cool" thing to criticize movies for the things you didn't like about them. The producers are obligated to deliver good products, we can't just consume shit-ass slop.
I'm surprised Jeffery Jones isn't in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Which I'm happy about, bc he's a freak, who likes kids at least 14 years old IRL. But half of Hollywood, are those kind of freaks. It's been that, way since ol' tinseltown. Anyway Beetlejuice Beetlejuice might become a franchise. If it makes 💰💰💰. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice already smashed expectations, making 💯10 million dollars opening weekend. Anything with Michael Keaton and Jenna Ortega I want to see succeed. Bc they are two actors, against this woke garbage.
I agree there were a lot of stuff that didn't need to be in the movie that went nowhere. It was a fun movie, some jokes were funny like the first time Beetlejuice was singing though the second one didn't only because it went on for way too long. Thinking about the ending, if the breaking the law part nullified the contract then the you can't say my name because of the contract makes no sense.
So far everyone has been gushing green slime all over this movie, I was bored. It was akin to Ghostbusters II Vs Ghostbusters - it’s not bad, but it’s not really necessary either. This could have been significantly worse for sure, but it also could just not have been.
To be fair, i enjoyed the movie and loved the short backstory of Betelgeuse, mostly because it was fun and short. Them killing each other was hilariously ironic for me.
I personally believe Jenna Ortaga is a good actress but overrated....its kinda funny/peculiar that SHE is the 'new' Lydia, then you see the original Wynona is BEST still,oh and Keaton wasn't used properly... still, they got paid !
I agree with everything he says, but I liked it. Yes there's a lot going on, a lot of stories but I think it all comes together at the end. Yes the first one was better this is a sequel to a movie about a decade old, and the same with a lot of sequels these days. If Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice came out in the 90s or early 2000s it might have been well received. I think the story, yes a lot going on but I still liked it. I wasn't expecting an amazing sequel from a movie that came out decades ago but I still had a fun time I did laugh about as much as I did in the first one I wasn't rolling on the floor with the first one and I wasn't here and I liked the practical effects. I just don't know what happened from the trailer everyone was on board till seeing the movie and hating it.🤷♂️ I give it 6🪲out of 10👍🏼
It could just be me, but im over everyone talking about ortega like her talents are heaven sent from the gods... Shes a niche actress and shes really not that good.

I almost got a copyright claim for using the clip that's already in there. I had to cut it down from a longer version. And by "longer" I mean like 1/20th of a second longer.
Honestly could have kept the boy in. He would be a reason to for Lydia to go into the after life as she does in the move. Have the story revolve around Ortega/ Astrid and her relationship with him. Lydia trying to manage with these weird visions of beetle juice stalking her. All while we cut to a second/third plot where juice’s ex comes into play. Giving a motive for juice to even help. The Boy convinces Ortega/Astrid to go into the after life after the realization of his ghostly existence. Somewhere along the line Lydia’s mom goes through the wake of her husband. Setting up a reason to be there. Lydia now has to turn to the main man juice. Have “the juice is loose” scene. Though juice is the antagonist yet again, he is willing to help for a price. Keep the man as his character. No need to change him up that much. He’s a scam artiest. That’s his whole thing. All you need. We don’t need feminist Shakespeare in there. We keep bob. Bob is good.
I like your script. This should have been the movie. Purgatory should have been the setting for the majority of the film. Hardballer could have been the head of the security team chasing the protagonists throughout it.
Just going by your review here, Top Gun: Maverick is the needle in the haystack of classic movies (30+ years) that meaningfully carry the story forward. I remain curious about it, and would like to see it for myself.
The movie with overstuffed with characters and subplots. They focused on Charles Deetz who should have been written out completely to focus on Lydia, her daughter and perhaps, Delia and of course Beetlejuice. After years of potential, this was massively underwhelming.
I've long maintained for myself that a sequel to a good story should only be made if there's a WHOLE NEW story to tell using the same characters, that PROGRESSES them from where and when they were when we LAST saw them (NOT REGRESS them to what they were where and when we FIRST saw them), and not be a re-tread of the original story. The vast majority of sequels don't really fulfill these requirements and are therefore unnecessary. If I want to see the same story told again, I just go back and watch the first film. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice just rehashes the first film, has no clear direction, and appears to have been made solely because nobody had any better ideas and wanted to do something before Michael Keaton truly becomes too old to do it.
Some decent scenes. A lot of mediocre ones and it's fair share of bad ones. I tried getting into the spirit of things, but no! It disappointed. I smiled a couple of times. That was all. Not a good thing for a comedy. And Beetlejuice was just too nice. Not near the demon he was in the first movie. Took the magic away. I liked Bob though.
It was a so bad. I agree you could drop so much of it. There was something there it could have been. Like Beetlejuice and Lydia could have bonded over saving Her daughter. That would have been so much better than what we got. The truth is Bettlejuice never once lied to here and did exactly what he promised ever time. There could have been something neat there.
I enjoyed the movie, but I agree with you about certain things. The best part of the movie was the relationship between Lydia & Astrid, the relationship between Lydia & her boyfriend wasn't needed especially when he made Beetlejuice look good, the ending was just confusing. Outside of that,it was good

Nope I sure don’t.
your face at the beginning of the video says it all 😂😂
Decades of coming up with a story and the stars demand more screen time when the story should center on the new girl, her new boyfriend tricking her, and beetlejuice helping while still trying to trick them.
So... Another film I will watch on streaming.
Okay. Cool.
in the immortal words of Ed
"I FUCKING KNEW IT!!!"
A spot on review!
Actually this review is kind of uplifting, I was expecting terrible, like maliciously bad.. but you're saying mediocre , which is just normal for Hollywood now
still quite depressing that modern films are at the very best mediocre.. just goes to show how far this art form has fallen thanks to greed
Maybe Beetlejuice should have gone Hawaiian after all... oh well.
Yeah.......oh well.
It’s got to be better then anything Disney makes.
It is much better.
It's surprising how mixed reactions are for this movie.
Thats the power of nostalgia, the movie was objectively bad.
R.I.P Bob 😢
I agree that there was too many plots in this movie; Lydia and her marriage, Beetle's ex, the ghost kid, the cop. Too many characters and not all of them are developped except the ones we know. Lydia is more brave, the aunt is empathic and tries to comfort her, Beetlejuice is less evil than before... i guess working during years made him realise what a jerk he was with Lydia? At least, he helped her to save Astrid which is nice. He didn't forced her to marry him too 😄
Bob was funny, the music was nice and i like that we explore more the underworld. This was fun!
Dolores is not there often! Her power is scary but she never did something to the heroes. Why this character was there if she did nothing important?
The movie is fine, not amazing but not boring either. I give it a 6|10 🙂
Katherine O'Hara did is well as she could....with the yuck the writers gave her. NOBODY could have done better.
i like it but they rushed the ending. the serial killer and the ex wife got defeated too easily.
I really enjoyed the movie I think it’s as good as the original it has all the same elements that made the original great for me anyways
Hollyweird movies today are the perfect example of most entertainment today..There's some good here and there..But a lot of it really sucks!.. Cause of bad writing and recycling ideas..that were done way better before..
alot of ppl missed that Astrid's father killed himself. Ppl who commit suicide become civil servants in purgatory. And he was the clerk..
So why all the fish?
@@HazeyCazeyTv he must’ve jumped into the ocean and got attacked by Piranhas. I thought they were piranhas at least.

River. Piranha are fresh water fish, plus he was in South America.
I thought it was absolutely amazing! Had so much fun and the amount of practical effects were wild!
"Fun to look at" describes nearly everything Burton has ever done. Story execution has always been his Achilles Heel.
It being so crisp and clear throws it off for me
slop like this only puts me in the mood to rewatch the original👍
just watched and i fucking hated it. what a pile of garbage. tim burton has hit the wall of filmmaking.
Maybe this movie will be a kickoff point for a nice animated series on Netflix that will explore some of the new stuff they introduced.
You nailed it 👍

What has he made in the last decade that hasn't been forgettable garbage? Having his name attached to Wednesday doesn't count, that wasn't his story.
Too many of these "once beloved" directors have fizzled out in their old age. Especially Tim Burton and Riddley Scott.
On another note, glad you seem to be feeling better.
I agree with Tim Burton but I cannot say the same with ridley Scott, I went to see alien recently and I'd give that 4 half stars
@@Frosty-273alien Romulus was directed by Fede Alveraz.
Well, I did specify that I was a fan of "early" Tim Burton. Yeah, he hasn't been the same in recent years, but I'm always rooting for him to get his act together.
tims' golden days are far behind him
Good review thanks
I feel like I'm surrounded by mindless sheeple with how highly praised so much garbage is today. Thank you for proving I'm not alone.
XDXD
it was decent.
Thanks for your review. I still kinda want to see it though, and I'm more curious about the deleted scenes now.
Tim Burton is a guy who had one good idea/stylistic approach and has, ahem, done it to death.
To death! 💀 lol😂
You sound like you half like the film, I'm a big Beetlejuice fan, I'm still going to give it a chance.
Me and my sister will wait till it's on streaming.
Excellent review 👏
Nothing happens until the end of the middle act!
I enjoyed it, mostly for the nostalgia factor, but everything you said about it is spot on.
So far everyone has been gushing green slime all over this movie, I was bored. It was akin to Ghostbusters II Vs Ghostbusters - it’s not bad, but it’s not really necessary either. This could have been significantly worse for sure, but it also could just not have been.
Ghostbusters 2 is WAY better than this turd. Michael Keaton was great....but that's about it.
Thank you for doing this even though it was difficult due to your health issues.
ty for your honesty!
To be fair, i enjoyed the movie and loved the short backstory of Betelgeuse, mostly because it was fun and short. Them killing each other was hilariously ironic for me.
That’s not how “to be fair” works. It makes sense why you’re dumb enough to like this crap
I personally believe Jenna Ortaga is a good actress but overrated....its kinda funny/peculiar that SHE is the 'new' Lydia, then you see the original Wynona is BEST still,oh and Keaton wasn't used properly...
still, they got paid !
yep, you nailed it
My man isn't at 100k yet!? 🤯🤯🤯WHAT!?
It's frustrating. I'll get there eventually.
I just don't know what happened from the trailer everyone was on board till seeing the movie and hating it.🤷♂️ I give it
6🪲out of 10👍🏼
Beetlejuice has too many ingredients in this single dish and it ends up overpowering it to the point where it spills all over the place.
It could just be me, but im over everyone talking about ortega like her talents are heaven sent from the gods...
Shes a niche actress and shes really not that good.
Shes a very one-note actress from what I've seen so far.
Blame the material, not the actress. Not her fault these writers keep holding down her potential.
@Gumballrulez21 the actress has the choice of doing the role or not yes? So is it not her fault she chooses to keep doing the same riles over and over again??!
@@jasonl1942 Same roles. Oh, man you've hardly seen any of her projects.
@@Gumballrulez21 don't really care to tbh. She's very bland to me, very much a flavour of the month but no substance.
If you like her all the more power to you, my opinions are just mine for me.
I hope you feel better man, I'm worried about your health.
Thanks. I'm hanging in there.
I needed the vector completion on Day-O
I almost got a copyright claim for using the clip that's already in there. I had to cut it down from a longer version. And by "longer" I mean like 1/20th of a second longer.
@@thoriasunlimited4053 Jeepers. YT is a pain...
Hardballer could have been the head of the security team chasing the protagonists throughout it.
oof, you're breaking my heart here. I still plan on seeing it at some point in the theatre, but now I'm worried...
To me this was like an episode of the cartoon. Nowhere near the vein of the first
Just going by your review here, Top Gun: Maverick is the needle in the haystack of classic movies (30+ years) that meaningfully carry the story forward. I remain curious about it, and would like to see it for myself.
It's better if sequel was about Beetlejuice needs Lydia to help him to get rid off his ex wife combined her relationship with her daughter.
It would be kind of odd because the last time the two of them saw each other Beetlejuice was a sexual predator who was forcing Lydia into marriage
Miguel is right though it needed to be about his ex wife rather than 5 different storylines pulled together..
You can combine Lydia wanting Beetlejuice helps to get Astrid back, he agree with it and he wants her help to get rip off of his ex-wife.
@@miguelsantos-cd9tumuch better story
Complete afterthought.
The trailer looked forced
It was fun ,enjoy the ride peeps
Am i wrong thinking the title Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a play on words so a third movie Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice can happen?
Yes......obviously
I'm sure that's what they were thinking.
So... This is The Pixies reunion.
Yep you nailed it.
You remind me of Richard Kind 😂😂😂
I enjoyed it. I left the theater smiling. Sorry if you didn't.
They should have used jenna ortega as lydia and made it like the cartoon. I think would have been a better decision.
You mean a complete reimagining?
Yes. Having this movie as a bridge between the original movie and the animated series would have been an awesome choice.
@@KRobinson-ko1ne something like that
@@KRobinson-ko1ne i started with the cartoon then watched the movie. So cartoon has a big place for me.
Hell no
I enjoyed the movie, but I agree with you about certain things. The best part of the movie was the relationship between Lydia & Astrid, the relationship between Lydia & her boyfriend wasn't needed especially when he made Beetlejuice look good, the ending was just confusing. Outside of that,it was good
