Just goes to show that Bread wasn't all about sappy love ballads. They could really rock when they wanted to. Just wish they had done it more often. Very talented band. Botts's drumming was always top shelf.

@@NoOne-kr4jc I remember a Dean Parks who did session work with Steely Dan among other acts, so that sounds like a good possibility. Many session players in the 1960s-1970s would play live with acts when they needed an extra musician for a tour. It was a great way to get the love of a live audience without joining a band long term. Thanks.

I saw this line up in 1977 at Avery Fischer Hall in NYC. It was a well balanced concert with great acoustics and the tour was supporting the Reunion album with Lost Without Your Love and Hooked on You as the typical Gates singles. Dean Parks was there "filling in" the sound as Gates referred to the fact that their studio albums had many overdubs that could not be reproduced without another guitarist. Larry Knechtal played a lot of those leads on the original recordings including Guitar Man. He was better known as the keyboard player who did many LA sessions in the 60's for acts such as the Beach Boys, Mamas and Papas,Monkees, etc. He also received a grammy for his part on Simon's Bridge Over Troubled Water. Griffin, also known as Arthur James, received an Academy Award for the song, For All We Know. Botts went on to record with many great artists including Ronstadt, Andrew Gold, Karla Bonoff and others. A very talented bunch.

David and the band were as boring as expected with a few uptempo tunes mixed in, then at the end of the concert they played "Mother Freedom". My god! This was one of the earliest songs my first band learned. Must have been around 1973....it would have helped if I'd heard the real song. This is great !
