    Bread did have a boat load of nice, easy listening ballads. But they also had some rockers too. I think in most people's minds they would consider Bread to be in the "soft rock" category. But songs like this would set them apart from the other classical soft rock groups.

    A lot of musical talent in this group. They just didn't hang around too long. They could craft a song really well. Sadly Jimmy, Mike and Larry have left us way too soon.

      You're right , Bread was a super band all contributed great ideas and high quality voices, but don't forget that thanks to the ballads of David Gates they were very successful, and he was also a multi-instrumentalist, he played acoustic guitar, bass, piano and even lead Guitar , however I love the songs of Griffin ! My regards from Lima - Perú .

    Fancy Dancer was on the Guitar Man Album, released in 1972. On The Border (Eagles) was released in 1974. For those saying this sounds like On The Border . . . Fancy Dancer was first. Plus, members of Bread were friends with members of the Eagles.

    • @jasonnstegall

      The Guitar Man album, BTW, was the only Bread album that had songwriting contributions from all 4 members in the band plus former member Robb Royer. This was co-written by Griffin and Mike Botts (Botts actually came up with the lick that opens up the song, and in what I consider one of his more inspired moments as the band’s producer, David Gates encouraged James Griffin to get with Mike Botts to write to that lick!)

      It really is a shame and quandry. From what I read, Gates and Griffin were sharing songwriting duties (understanding, both of these guys were both prolific writers). Under the assumption that Gates was leading the band at all times, it's his baby to promote his songs. Bread was one of the few bands who's followers would not expect and hardly accept turmoil in Bread. That being said, it sure was a shame how things evolved during that period of time; though apparently, Gates, Griffin and the rest joined forces near the end. Botts was another giant in that band.

    Dean also did the "Guitarman" solo in at least one video Ive seen though the Bread songbook I have that was released in the 70's credits Larry Knectel as the author of the solo. So now Im confused?LOL

    • @LShackley
      @LShackley 9 лет назад +1

      +Cuzbro100 Knechtel did it on the studio album. Since he was usually playing bass or keys, it was easier to have another guitarist play it in live situations.

      +Eduardo De Jesus Yea that whole group had a History. I wrote David a letter from Germany in 74 when they broke up and told him they were good and should work out their differences and get back to "Truckin" Haha James won a grammy-He and Royer- for that Carpenter song "For All We Know" According to the Bread book I have, he wrote the song as Arthur James so while he has the grammy for the song, they never would recognize James Griffin as the Author.
