    The Smothers Brothers are the best thing about this video.
    I've always loathed Seinfeld's standup, but his show was hilarious because of his acting and his collaboration with Larry David.
    Thanks for this little time capsule.

      It's fun to remember that he wanted to be a standup comedian before he became a TV star. That show he has about Coffee, Cars and Comedians is perfect for him because he can meet and worship real standup comedians like Eddie Murphy, Barack Obama, and even lesser known amateur ones like Norm MacDonald.

    This is exactly what made me really notice and appreciate Jerry Seinfeld. Notice the total absence of any vulgarity, bad language, etc he gave an old time comedy performance without having to resort to any vulgarities like so many contemporary comedians do.

    My wife and I saw Seinfeld in Vancouver a couple years ago and we were in tears nearly the whole show. Like a good wine he just seems to get better and better. Of course his style of humour might not appeal to everyone, and he does reuse a fair bit of material but he packed the house for 2 or 3 nights. Even with all the money he has he still loves to get out there on stage. Now that's loving what you do.

    I remember watching Saturday night live one time just randomly in the 80s I guess, back in those times you just turned on the TV and watched whatever was on it, anyway, Jerry was doing stand-up on snl and nobody was laughing and I wondered if he was doing a speech or something and then at the very end he said that taxi drivers had names which were just lists of consonants cause they're from Eastern Europe or something and he got a few chuckles and I realized it was supposed to be a stand up routine

    • @vangroover1903
      @vangroover1903 Год назад

      Yeah, he actuall spent years pretending to be a standup comedian before he became a big TV star. His career was kind of like Norm Macdonald's, minus the lack of success.

    Seinfeld digs deeply into a situation like he's mining diamonds whereas Maureen turns low hanging fruit into some brilliant jokes. They're different. The bottom line is who makes you laugh more. Also, Maureen never took her stand-up career beyond the 80s in North America while Jerry achieved legendary status and still is successful at stand-up.

      Maureen’s jokes assumed her audience was up to speed on current events (Chappaquiddick, Sen Hayakawa) whereas Seinfeld stuck to everyday life. I thought they were both good but personally enjoyed Maureen’s subject matter better.
