Tom and Dick Smothers were the best ever. Funny, irreverent, intelligent, and refused to be muffled. I miss them so much. There has never again anyone like them, but if another pair rose up, I would love it.
It’s funny because the last month or so I’ve been thinking a lot about you both ,Dicky, I’ve lost all three of my Brothers and it’s horrible , but we did not have the camaraderie, spending the time with each other as you guys have all these years, I just can’t tell you how sorry I am and how much we’ll miss him, when ever I think about The Smothers Brothers I’ll always smile.
OMG! The Smothers Brothers were a part of my teen years. I loved them for their wonderful comedic sense. I listen to them today and am bowled over by the purity of their voices and simplicity of style which I had no awareness of at the time. No glitz, no pyrotechnics. And you know what these guys mostly talked about in their acts and music? Americanism. Even though they were obviously liberals. Americanism. Back when it was cool to do so. I weep for those times to return again but fear they never shall. Thank you boys, you're wonderful and talented and funny and above all. American.
They were both idealists about what America could be, yet not naive enough to believe America to be beyond criticism, or incapable/unneeding of improvement. The only thing that has changed is the framing and not even really that. The brothers criticized Vietnam because it was blatantly wrong and very American to speak up and do so. Now speaking up and out against injustice is simply framed as unAmerican. The passions and tactics never changed, only the perspectives of them.
@@GBS1043 No, after the Brothers were fired in 1969, CBS rehired them to do a 20 year reunion show in February 1988 & when that hour special did well, CBS hired them for several more shows which ended in 1989.

Hello from Maine, USA...May 24 2023. I hope that someday we can all sit back and happily laugh together as brothers and sisters, all modern society united as if family or friends even, friends happily laughing together about how foolish humans used to be, but aren't anymore since we all found a source of tranquility, while yet still experiencing many, many adventures together, too. I hope that. An old, tired man can get to have little sweet dreams if he's a silly little dreamer, right?
Supremely talented, absolutely hilarious. The tragedy is that in a half century nothing at all has changed. Except the deficit is one hundred times as great.
They were wonderful and funny and daring. Folk music and singalongs were magical. I loved that period of music just as I was on the edge of adolescence.
I remember my hope my parents would go upstairs early so i could turn Bonanza off to watch these guys. I didnt hate Sunday night and more school the next day when i saw their act
Their show got them into trouble a few times. It was a fabulous show. They were funny and clever guys as well as being musically very talented. They always had the best guests.
Thank you for putting this compilation together from the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour; I find myself both laughing and crying from their humorous banter and sentimental songs they would play. They were the greatest duo comedy/singing team in show business (in my opinion)! I remember watching them on television and laughing all the way through their programs. Tommy was a great comedian, and his brother, Dick, a wonderful and talented singer and straight man. ( As an aside, I believe Pat Paulsen used some of his showbiz money to buy the little town of Asti, which is north of Cloverdale in Sonoma County, California; and there he declared himself "Honorary Mayor"--Population: roughly, a few dozen folks! And Tommy had a vineyard/winery with his wife, Marcy, located near Kenwood, California also in Sonoma County--in Jack London's famous stomping grounds, The Valley of the Moon, before they sold it and he moved to Santa Rosa, CA. ) ~drs (01/05/24)

I love it when the two of them share a moment just between themselves! When they look at each other and almost laugh! So touching!
Love all the classic musical skits
Thank you, Paul Brownstein for posting these videos of the Smothers Brothers. They were so entertaining & always made me happy.
Two of rhe three wittiest, most cerebral personalities on t.v. The third is Tom Lehrer.
Loved these guys
They were such fun
Supremely talented, absolutely hilarious. The tragedy is that in a half century nothing at all has changed. Except the deficit is one hundred times as great.
Tommy's Rules For Life certainly apply to someone more recent than Nixon! 😂
I always liked the Smothers Brothers and watched them every week back in the day. Thanks for this compilation, it was enjoyable.
The show was funny and their skits were timely for us!
Check out the film "The Ciderhouse Rules".
I loved them !! The George Washington bit, I didn’t remember it!! Thank you for reposting
I was a 60s & 70s child.Born in 56 🌹♥️🙏
Two of my top favorite comedians!
Great video, Paul!
Love the Smuthers brothers!!!!
I missed these guys! So sad I came upon this after Tommy passed on RIP!
Yes we do miss them
I really don’t understand thumbs down. What’s not to love about Dicky and Tommy
Mom always liked you best.
They were so good. I didn't appreciate their humor when I was watching them on TV back then.
Talent AND Comedy...why can't it be found anymore?
Was very young when the show 1st aired . Watching this now , very smart material. A little risky for the time . Thanks for sharing .
Their show got them into trouble a few times. It was a fabulous show. They were funny and clever guys as well as being musically very talented. They always had the best guests.
That's part of the reason why there were only three seasons. They pushed the boundaries a bit too much for the times.
Tommy, we will miss you!!!!
Love you 😍 ❤
RIP Tommy
Hilarious.
Tommy did a perfect Johnny Carson!
Yes, he really did!! I found that video a few months ago - he was so spot on.
@@cak8132 great!!
greatest ever
I really enjoyed this clip. 😂
After all these years of being a Smothers Brothers fan, I just realized I can hear the bass playing even when Tom stops and leans on it. Imagine that.
Thank you Paul. Spent a nice evening with entertainment. Some subject matter seems to be still very relevant to this day. We need to keep fighting the good fight. XO
My mom just loved Tommy. I could see her point then, but I liked them both.
