No one but no one will ever come close to Johnny Carson , today’s shows are an absolute waste of my time. And as for the Smothers Brothers, they were put their work on the line fighting for civil rights and against Vietnam. RIP Tommy, you’ve earned your wings for sure.
I never missed one show of theirs. To me they were the best. The faces that Tommy would make would just cracked me up. He didn’t have to say a word. I never got tired of watching them. So sorry to hear about Tom his oldest son Tom and I found where their sister all die in 2023. So many deaths in one year for a family. Very big loses. May God bless the rest of the family and help them to deal with their loses . Rest In Peace Tommy. You’re one of Gods angels now.
All the garbage that CBS puts out there now is unwatchable. I seldom watch TV any more because even the commercials are offensive to me. CBS would help their cause tremendously to bring in quality entertainers like the Smother Brothers!
Rest In Peace Tommy 😢 I’ll always remember the time we saw the Smothers Brothers perform at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel. “To Dream the Impossible Dream”.
We sure laughed a lot in those days....but we had great people like the Smothers Brothers and Johnny Carson to thank for that. Thanks for the great, great memories.
So very sorry for your loss. You and Tommy are an important part of my adolescence. You taught me that it is important to stand up for what you believe in, no matter what happens
Have the Smothers Brothers ever done an album of just singing without the comedy? I enjoy the comedy, too, but absolutely love their voices and their wonderful harmonies.
Oh Fun!!! I'm watching this on almost New Year's Eve in 2023 here in Sebastopol Ca where the Smother's Bros lived for many years and we're all sadly saying goodbye to Tommy Smothers who passed away recently....and watching these reruns.....The brothers had a ranch nearby and we used to see them around town......Farewell...but never forgotten.....And thanks for laughs!! They'll go on FOREVER!!! 😍🥰🤩
We are so sad to hear of the passing of your brother Tommy. We love you both and wish our condolence to you and the rest of your family.. God Bless you and Tommy for providing such wonderful entertainment throughout those early years which I was lucky to watch and laugh along with the rest of the world. Again, thank you again for all the good memories.
my sincere condolences on the passing of your brother....He was an incredible influence to me when I was growing up, and my mom and I always liked your rapport, it was genius! Prayers for strength and comfort sir
I remember watching the Smothers brothers on TV a lot when I was a kid back in the 60's. They are very funny and keep their act clean and I respect them for that. We need more comedians like the SmoBros!
I was a writer on the show (and then head writer) from May of 1988 'til the end. We never did a New Year's Eve Show - so you guys were there for the very last New Year's show. Funny stuff.
What a special treasure to have grown up watching. Listening, and laughing my.heart out to these two great talents. Thank you gentlemen. Thanks for the memories
As I recall the Smothers Brothers were fired by CBS for being too controversial. Ridiculous when you compare them to today’s television. They were out there before SNL.
Dickie has the most incredible voice. What an amazing talent. He makes it look effortless, but when he and Tommy are singing, Dickie is doing the HEAVY LIFTING.
That was the end of a horrible year and the beginning of better things in 1988 for me. Thanks for sharing this clip I really wasn’t allowed to see then.
As a kid my cousins Steve and Dave and I would listen to records of the smothers brothers. I remember laughing my tail off and it’s still the same and better! Real clean fun humor. 😅
Good old fashioned comedy, I heard a classic version of this years ago on the radio. Haven't found that version since, not for lack of trying. Thank you
Good brothers. Every time i want to make an example of a perfectly good brothers i say, "For example, the Smothers brothers. why dont u two be like the Smothers brothers?" I wish i had two good brothers like the Smothers brothers.
Good morning from Edmonton, Kentucky, U.S.A. Thank you for posting this. 😘 I was 14 when your show was cancelled in 1968. I thought then, and still do, that it was a shame. Our family watched it every week. I wish I had watched this performance on Johnny Carson. 8.5-month-pregnant me was asleep at the time.
I have some very good news for some of you. The A&O Liquor Store seen at 9:43 is STILL THERE. At least it's still there on Google Street View. So not everything in this world changes. Though the Coors sign has been replaced by Rockstar posters.
My dad didn’t like Carson , said he was arrogant. I argued with him. Johnny always was happy to be 2nd for a laugh. The best host ever. And unlike today. Little politics. Seems like yesterday we watched his last show.
I cried when Tommie talked about a cherry tree. I watched your show every week & I still can't believe that you were pulled off the air because you stood up for your convictions. I was also amazed that they didn't pull off Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. Lily Tomlin's Ernestine really skewered Henry Kissinger.
at the 8:14 time on this video, when 12:00:03 is shown on the 1988 New Years Eve countdown clock, *TIVO* was invented! BUT if not, someone out there had the brainstorm idea for it at that moment! What's the odds the balloon when dropped actually hit Johnny Carson's hand! Maybe that was the1st laser-guided Balloon in history! Congratulations to Klarinette for noticing.
The thing is, Tom was playing the idiot, while also playing great folk guitar. Make no mistake - he was the more radical of the two, and his ridiculous role playing was what gave us the belly laughs. Two very serious musicians, impeccable comedic timing, and protesters against the political mindlessness of the 60s and beyond
It is terrible that one side is right and those in the other side are either forced or compelled to fight. It would be worse if they were fooled by propaganda to believe that they were fighting for good. If you are on the right side then you will fight stronger. If you are on the wrong side then you will more easily cease risking your life. Which side are you on? The leader who disallows this question doesn't trust the propaganda department and shows to those that follow that they are on the wrong side.

Such true words Tilting at Windmills

These guys were a gift to Humanity. Enjoy their works.
These guys are a national treasure! A pox on CBS for canceling them
All the garbage that CBS puts out there now is unwatchable. I seldom watch TV any more because even the commercials are offensive to me. CBS would help their cause tremendously to bring in quality entertainers like the Smother Brothers!
Rest In Peace Tommy 😢
I’ll always remember the time we saw the Smothers Brothers perform at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel.
“To Dream the Impossible Dream”.
The Smother Brothers: Love, laughter, intelligence, integrity. ❤
This reminds me what national treasures these two men were.
We sure laughed a lot in those days....but we had great people like the Smothers Brothers and Johnny Carson to thank for that.
Thanks for the great, great memories.
O’boy these two are the best! They are going to be missed! God bless them… 😞👍
So very sorry for your loss. You and Tommy are an important part of my adolescence. You taught me that it is important to stand up for what you believe in, no matter what happens
Wishing the Smothers family condolences for their loss. I loved Tommy Smothers and his brother, too.
I like their singing as much as I like their comedy. They are unique. I don't know of anyone else who are like them.
There isn't anyone like them. I consider them a national treasure.
Have the Smothers Brothers ever done an album of just singing without the comedy? I enjoy the comedy, too, but absolutely love their voices and their wonderful harmonies.
@@toddblickenstaff607 Yes, they have.

Thank you Dick and Tom for all the great fun and laughs. You made my life better as you did so many others.

dang
I grew up listening these guys back in the sixties.
Always a great act.
Dick Smothers has a beautiful voice,. I grew up wstching the Smothers Brothers I love them!
I was a writer on the show (and then head writer) from May of 1988 'til the end. We never did a New Year's Eve Show - so you guys were there for the very last New Year's show. Funny stuff.
Those two were so talented. I always enjoy watching them.
The man of LaMantia was a good movie. I loved the Smothers Brothers.
Tommy Smothers.. one of the smartest.
The Smothers Brothers were a special talent
They were great. A lot of laughs and a lot of heart and by the way pretty good musicians and singers.
I LOVED that show when I was a child. They were the funniest yet most relevant and smart comedy show then and even now it applies now.
What a special treasure to have grown up watching. Listening, and laughing my.heart out to these two great talents. Thank you gentlemen. Thanks for the memories
We miss you, Tom.
Carson used to have formal live show on New Years eve. I miss that.
I MISS them so much !! Their comedy ,singing and personalities !!
❤❤❤❗❗❗
I miss the Great Carson! Smothers Brothers a great act and this was impressive.
As I recall the Smothers Brothers were fired by CBS for being too controversial. Ridiculous when you compare them to today’s television. They were out there before SNL.
They would be beloved now for their liberalism
To political!!
You're correct. They bashed war in Viet Nam, as well as their own network chiefs as acts/skits written for their show were cut and censored.
We all loved them, so they were cancelled.
@robertdesantis729 they'd be hated for it by half the country
Carson was great
Exquisite and touching.
Still so current. Poor historical events in government keep repeating poor historical events. You two are icons. Johnny Carson is ok too. 🎉
You both were wonderful!, God bless.
Dickie has the most incredible voice. What an amazing talent. He makes it look effortless, but when he and Tommy are singing, Dickie is doing the HEAVY LIFTING.
Frankly, without Tom, I find Dickie’s voice quite ordinary. It’s the blending of two slightly above average voices that makes the act exceptional
but Tommy did the heavy lifting in comedy.
They are both very talented in their own right and complimented each other perfectly.
Thanks so much for all the laughs you let your brother get, you two will always be priceless!
Magnificent. Thanks for sharing George!
Awesome!!!
Thanks for all your wonderful antics, brotherly love & your music.
You both made life better 😉
It's just amazing how good they could sing
RIP Tom Smothers 12-27-2023😩😞
That was the end of a horrible year and the beginning of better things in 1988 for me. Thanks for sharing this clip I really wasn’t allowed to see then.
Thank you for bringing these back to us! You and your brother are treasures much luck on your new tour ✌💙 from Montana
So sorry for the passing of your brother Tom.
I saw the both of you at Casino Rama in Ontario Canada. Both of you are not only funny, but great artists with wonderful harmony! Bless you both.
Great song, love smother bros
johnny had the clout. Great time capsule. loved it.
1987? I got married that year! Still am!! Happy New Year!
As a kid my cousins Steve and Dave and I would listen to records of the smothers brothers. I remember laughing my tail off and it’s still the same and better! Real clean fun humor. 😅
you guys are awesome, always were. thanks
1988 … Oh, 2024
VOTE!
Just met Dick at Publix in Florida today.. Awesome man !!!!! Very nice guy
The balloon at 8:14....
Probably in reference to Tommie's New Year's wish.
Grew up with these two. Thanks
Great clip. Love the Smothers and of course Johnny.
Brilliant !!!
Love this... forgot all about it. Dickie... I understand you're my "neighbor" in SRQ!
would it had been really awesome to see the Smothers Brother, Peter Paul and Mary and maybe the mama and papas sing together?
love these two. so funny and good looking. Lol
Good morning from Edmonton, Kentucky, U.S.A.
Thank you for posting this. 😘

Its hard to remember 1989. I just got married. Trauma causes loss of memory.
I have some very good news for some of you. The A&O Liquor Store seen at 9:43 is STILL THERE. At least it's still there on Google Street View. So not everything in this world changes. Though the Coors sign has been replaced by Rockstar posters.
Who didn’t love the Smothers Brothers. The outrage when their show was cancelled!
The best!
Hugs
My dad didn’t like Carson , said he was arrogant. I argued with him. Johnny always was happy to be 2nd for a laugh. The best host ever. And unlike today. Little politics. Seems like yesterday we watched his last show.
In real life Johnny was a miserable person
Love the cherry tree, Tom is so 😁
I cried when Tommie talked about a cherry tree.

31December, 1987.. flying in the Persian. Gulf, looking for bad guys, at night.
Thank you for your service!❤
How did the green balloon get past the censors? Very funny.
Great

So funny!
They were right in the '60s, later in '88. And they are right today. MAGA, Trump '24.
No “MAGA” no trump!
The Sky Is a Neighborhood
“We hope the Federal Government straightens out and stops embarrassing us.” We still hope that, but so far, no luck.
This is Your Song Puff!!
Classic ty
Too bad they don't still perform, imagine the current administration under the same scrutiny!
Tommy, Can we talk about 2023??
I went to high school with Ollie North's son. He didn't like his dad either.
I remember. I was in high school and no one wanted to graduate so they could go to Vietnam. Later my husband died young from exposure to Agent Orange.
Wow

“I just hope in 1988 the federal government straightens out and stops embarrassing us…” wow nothing much changes, huh????
When Donald Trump came down the elevator, it became "The Impossible Dream".
More like a nightmare.😱 The 'Twilight Zone' incarnate.😶🌫️🖖
88 +two aces... dead man hand..
Still great, CBS still crappy. Who'da thunk it.
Tommy is a bit rattled at 5:27
And those people
..they.... I don't. Know
Did Dick Carson pass away??
Who?
😂
Thing’s don’t change. Good story , the highest in the land always plays stupid. Not sure 🤔 this is the real story.
Sorry, I really wasn’t paying attention.
Lovely, but not quite as awesome as Jim Neighbors' version.
