    WOW, what these guys can sing including a song that was so popular and sang the lyrics with so much feelings. Being Hispanic I love them - I miss this show and so glad you were able to place on "RUclips!" Love it! I loved them when they were on TV back in the 60s and missed them terribly. So happy to see them in videos to watch again. So glad they got credit for all they did for TV back in the 60s despite being fired by CBS.

      The gift that keeps on giving. I loved them in their heyday, too. Broken hearted when they were cancelled. They are as enlightened and timeless as the sun itself. Set the kids down in front and make them watch. Make them watch Buster Keaton, W. C. Fields, and the Marx Brothers as well. They'll thank you.😊

    Not only is their comedy fantastic, but their musicianship is better than a lot of 'musicians' out there today. This is a fantastic arrangement and the harmonies are great. They could be successful at legitimate musicians.

    Tommy writing the comedic bits is a genius..time and time again he knocks it out of the park..what is so great about the comedy...Tommy makes sure to showcase their music and singing incredible talent 1st and then trumps everything with the comedy...

    My wife is from Mexico and we went and saw The Smother's Brothers when they were playing in Jacksonville Fla. Dick was in the lobby talking to everyone and was very kind to everyone. I introduced him to my wife who had never heard of The Smothers Bros. in Mexico. He was wonderful enough to dedicate this song to my wife and we will never forget it. I show this to my wife's family whenever we go down to Mexico and it is very popular.

    When he switched to German in the middle of the song and then totally went off on his own tangent, I was almost crying! Not sure what's funnier: Tom and his antics or Dick standing there calmy watching. If I remember correctly, this was the same song that segued into "Dueling Banjos" with the pianist. I loved the video retrospective too. It really was a great night!

    Behind all the fun and games, there were two extremely talented and dedicated musicians, humorists, and social justice activists.
    One of the greatest travesties was the removal of their show by censors at CBS.

    I have had the pleasure and also the privilege of knowing Dick Smothers, visiting his home and he visiting mine. Was surrealistic to watch a television legend in my living room playing with my then 2 year old daughter. Was such a pleasure to know him to be a very real man, not at all pretentious, sincere and a pleasure to know as a friend. Different to see his off stage persona, to be that of a funny man, unlike his more straight man character. God bless you Dick and Tom. Enjoy retirement.

    Holy hell, I'm glad that I finally found this video. I saw this bit on television ages ago and thought that it was one of the funniest things that I ever saw. I still think that's a brilliant bit of comedy. The most impressive part of the whole thing, for me at least, is that for just short of two minutes, while Tommy Smothers is going off script (so to speak), Dick Smothers is just standing there with this look on his face like, "What the hell are you doing?" Dick barely moves and doesn't make a sound and manages to be hilarious while doing it. Don't get me wrong; Tommy was hysterical in this but DIck's stony-faced stillness was what stuck in my mind. Maybe that's just me.

    ........nice vocal harmony and nice show.....yes, this beautiful song was compose by Nicaraguan poet Rafael Gaston Perez, who made others great songs like "Sinceridad", well known "Bolero Style"

  • @rdowning60
    @rdowning60 Год назад +1

    That song was spectacular..harmony was so wonderful...right up to the part when the comedy took over...you dont realize how great these guys were...not only there musical and vocal genius..but then writing the comedy to fit the skit... so Tommy and dickie..had to learn the music..the Spanish words the blending and then memorizing the comedy parts...back to the music and again back to the comedy...Tommy has the greatest comedic timing in the business...

    just saw an interview with tommy, he says dickie only sang originally, then someone mentioned to them (when they became a duo) that dickie should be playing a bass. they were already both in college. it isn't easy to learn a fretless instrument but obviously there's some musical talent in the family, the notes are perfect.

      I usually felt felt much the same way about Tommy's 'shtick', but it was done to better effect on this number. They were less 'political' that night than they would be in the ensuing years, and as a result, Tommy didn't turn the bit into a diatribe.
