My folks had a lot of their 80s show on tape, an album, and we saw them live. There aren't many SmoBro skits that are completely new to me, but this is one of them! The guitar string trick had me in stitches. Thank you!
Anyone who has never seen Pirates of Penzance may be a bit confused by the song, taken out of context. It is primarily being sung by a bevy of sisters who have been captured by pirates, intending to take them as their brides. They all sing "Take any heart but ours." But one sister, Mabel, is so taken by one of the pirates, Frederick, that she sings "Take any heart, take mine."
This was EXCELLENT.. Love these guys since I use t watch "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Show" from the 60's. Bastards had to cancel them just because they spoke the truth! ❤❤❤❤
I had such a lousy day at work...came home and checked these guys out for the first time on You Tube...turned my whole hight around...I laughed my ass off...these guys bring back such wonderful memories and I think I laughed even harder now...thank you for a great post of pure, innocent humor and entertainment...God Bless!
You never want it to end - like a Christmas joy from another time - these 2 men have brought true musical talent and comedy into a great blend - for years - the way I think God himself loves to hear! Thank you and Merry Christmas - all thru the years to come too!
They really were talented musicians as well as comedians. I looked forward to their show more than any of the others at the time: Glen Campbell, Ed Sullivan, Andy Williams, etc. They had a unique combination of humor, music, comedy and political satire.
What a blast from the past! Super blend of music and comedy. I have this on VHS and it never fails to make me feel good. They were so good on this show (see Quando Caliente El Sol and the Yo Yo Man excerpts too). Thanks!
Oh man, brilliant stuff and of course it doesn't hurt that Pirates is one of my all time favorite musicals. And is that John Williams conducting the orchestra? O.o so much brilliance in one room.
I definatly love the Smothers Brothers, and I agree there is nothing like it on TV now. But I would recommend checking out the HBO Series Tenacious D and also the HBO series The Flight of the Concords. Tenacious D is definatly on the crude side but you have a comedy/guitar duo who play off each other pretty well and are very good musicians (well Kyle is and Jack is just average). The Flight of the Concords is hip yet "family friendly", they keep it clean (which I like).
I grew up outside of Boston and my parents brought my brothers and I to several of the Boston Pops concerts. There are two that I remember very fondly this was one of them and the other one was Victor Borge.
@leemohn It's John Williams on the podium (this is from some time in the 80s--Fiedler had retired, I think). If I remember the spelling correctly, the pianist is Michael Preddy.
Smothers Brothers= Class A comedians. A LOT better than the ones you see mostly. "Comedians" that go around and expect people to laugh by saying "So. I walkeda round a half hour. scratched my balls and napped". WHAT is so funny about that? Smothers Brothers get my vote as top comedians of the 20th century.
Arthur Fiedler died on July 10, 1979. This was many years after that. Fiedler never retired. According to wikipedia, he suffered a heart seizure of some kind on May 5, 1979, and died 2 months later.

So funny and yet so clean. How rare. Thank you Tom and Dick.

Gotta love these two!!! Hate what CBS did to them
These guys always make me laugh! Love their style!
So over the top awsome. Wit vocal and musical talent at it's finast.

Oh, how I miss you guys and your show. THAT was great TV!
I couldn't have said it better!! So true. Todays talent just doesn't match.
absolutely timeless
I forgot how much I dig Ma Smother's kids. Funny AND talented, to boot. Good bit.
GILBERT...SULLIVAN...TOM...DICKY...MY WORLDS HAVE BECOME ONE!!!!!! BEST THING EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

This is brilliant in so many ways. Not much of this kind of intelligent, inventive, original work to be found today.
YES: JOHN WILLIAMS IS THE CONDUCTOR HERE !
Dick has a beautiful voice.

This was just great thank you
That guy at the piano freaks me out everytime I watch this. :D
The piano player is Michael Preddy, the SB’s regular pianist. He’s very talented.
I'm looking for a song by them where Tom thinks he is The Whistler, then the greenhornet, then Captain Marvel
Does anybody know what that's called?
Fantastic! I've never seen this before... these guys were the greatest!
Damn, Tommy could play some serious guitar....

Terrific
INGENIOUS and classically humorous!
Wee wee! Just kidding! I love the Smothers Brothers! :-)

Wonderful! Thanks for posting!
PRICELESS!!
RIP Tommy.

They are so funny! In the movie 'The Aristocrats' I thought their version of the "joke" was the best.

I saw them in Concert on Orlando in early 2009, It was as entertaining a night as I have ever seen matching going to see Harry Chapin Concerts
Who is the piano player?
It's the intro to "Lonesome Traveler" on the "Curb Your Tongue!" album.
The thumbs down are poor wandering ones.....
Only five.
Many years from now, I'm gonna raise my future children on this stuff! (not a bad plan for a freshman in college, I'd have to say)
2019 asking; did you follow thru or are you on the wrong side of the dirt?
