    Just played through BDSP, and the Cynthia fight is like suddenly having 6 microwaves that aren't quite powerful enough to cook the 6 different-flavored hot pockets you want to eat, so you have to futz with the wiring for 3 hours, figuring out if you should just overpower one of the microwaves or balance the strain between them all, and you can't go back because there's 4 microwave puzzles you went through just to get here.
    So eventually you just unplug the microwaves for a couple weeks and wonder why you didn't pick up a Fairy-type microwave along the way.

    So I agree with the whole "push one button to win" thing to an extent... cause when you start getting into high end gameplay things get really weird and using the move with the type advantage isnt always the best move, and you do end up using A LOT of non-attacking moves. Alright, I know this wasn't immediately mentioned in the video, but I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks pokemon's difficulty progression is backwards.
    It's like, you get your first pokemon, a paring knife, and your rival gets their potato peeler, and the first battle is 'alright guys, lets see who can skin this pear the fastest', like, it's a meh first battle, but that's because it's supposed to be simple and you've got no real tools to use for it.
    Then you head out on the start of your journey, and collect a few more poketools, and you're fighting other trainers, and... level 10-15 is the sweet spot, where the battles actually take 3-4 turns per pokemon, and the debuff moves actually work instead of guaranteeing a loss by using them... and then, all of a sudden, at level 16, your paring knife evolves... into a microwave, and you just cook hot pockets for the rest of the game.
    Don't get me wrong, some people might like the fact that as you get to higher and higher levels the game becomes exclusively glass canons, and one shot will kill anyone...
    But personally? I and many others would like it if at higher levels the fights took longer. It's like you're going on iron chef and challenging them, and back at the start of your journey you were doing hour long competitions with people along the road to prove you were the better pokechef trainer, and you're finally here... and you're stuck in a lightning round scenario where you need to defeat each of the Iron 4 chefs within 30 seconds, and they're trying to cook these fantastic meals, but... you made hot pockets, and it's infinitely better than the first 30 seconds of a steak.
    But then, you're face to face with pokechef league champion Gordon Ramsay, and you're expecting a massive fight... and he does the exact same thing the iron 4 did and puts out some vaguely moist spaghetti, while you're here with a hot pocket on a plate.
    I just... think maybe if we boosted health and defense to the point where they actually mattered we'd be able to have a more fun game? At that point type matchups become even more important, as they'll have more time to be effective!

    • @sabrinasummers9943
      @sabrinasummers9943 4 года назад +8

      A lot of this comes from the way the game progresses. As you keep doing these little cook-off challenges along the road, you get better at making the hot pockets. And in the single player of the game, that's all you do. When you hit max level and face against others at max level, then it turns into something a bit better. Instead of cooking hot pockets in 1-2 turns per pokemon, you now are cooking instant ramen in 2-4 turns per pokemon. I agree that a slower pacing on the fights would be nice, I want to savor the delicious meal that is the core game-play mechanics, but a lot of it comes down to just how easy it is for you to improve your skills and having an endless supply of wild pokemon you can throw hot pockets at.

    • @glitchwolf1384
      @glitchwolf1384 4 года назад +2

      @@sabrinasummers9943 I personally beg to differ, the only difference between casual and competitive play is that in some competitive formats you're not allowed to use the 'omniblaster 5000' microwave to cook your hot-pockets, and sometimes people have opposing pokechefs you have to hit with 2 hot pockets to defeat, and those are the tanky ones. Think about it this way; You're a professional boxer, when you were an amateur, could you take more or less hits? Honestly it's probably around the same because as you've gotten better at taking hits, other people have gotten better at hitting, and vice versa, now we look at pokemon, where everything has nigh world-ending power in three of it's four moveslots, and no one can take even a single hit. It's just sad that we don't have any more gameplay than 'hey what pokemon are they going to choose? Ah that means I should pick 'BS OP 'mon #4' and take them out immediately, oh no they chose a different one! Well I don't have disadvantage so it all comes down to speed for who wins this matchup!' Like... I want actual battles! Let fighting the Elite Four be a multi-hour ordeal of the hardest fights in the game, that really pushes you to your limits! And competitive... well, I really don't care for competitive, but they'll survive, thrive even in a strategy-based system.

    • @sabrinasummers9943
      @sabrinasummers9943 4 года назад +1

      @@glitchwolf1384 Admittedly yes, though I find that the level disparity causes a lot of the one or two turn microwave times. Even in the main game, if you limit your level to be around the average of the next big trainer fight, you'll get 2-3 turns per pokemon. Not a significant improvement to the recipe, sure, but it helps show ways one can step in the right direction.

      Even in the battles themselves you are trying to counter their type Pokemon. Moves with status effect serve little more purpose in competitive but a turn-based game will never have much skill or depth in combat.
      Never played Fortnite so I wouldn't know is it better. Could be same shit. But fighting games like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, etc, etc have more depth to them and your personal skill plays a bigger role than what character you and your opponent is using.

      Yeah, there's a meta, but unlike other games it isn't mandatory to win. You can defeat a meta team easily if you know how to use your brain.
      Fighting games are a faster thinking kind of game. You need to act fast, react fast etc..
