    These three styles were seen and used in both Star Wars: Jedi Outcast and Star Wars: Jedi Academy on PC and later various consoles that ported both games. Also, this is what I loved about the old EU. It fleshed out so many things that went beyond the films and left lots of room for characters to grow.

    As George Lucas has stated before, Luke is the best duelist the galaxy has ever seen. I feel like a lot of people dismiss him when compared to Anakin (mortal). They're the same power level in the force, but Luke is the better duelist

      The original forms are extinct anyway. There's no-one left alive who knows them well enough to teach them. The styles will have to be reinvented from scratch by practitioner preferences...which is how they came to be in the first place before they were formalized and stylized.

    I thing I love about star wars is how both Luke and Anakin Skywalker did actual duels of trial by fire with both Dooku and Vader I think Luke should have done the seven forms of lightsaber combat instead because not all stuff was bad from the jedi order

      It was the best choice because he knew he couldn't train children all their lives as he needed to rebuild a New Order quickly to replace the old one. And he didn't want to train/recruit children anymore and prefer young adults or adults or even people older than him

  • @127mfan
    @127mfan 11 месяцев назад +54

    I think the new forms are good for a jedi to grow quickly, but not stably. The simplified versions cause them to be incomplete, and each person has to fill them in. But keep in mind, most of these students are newbies. So they're pretty likely to fill in their style with lots of errors.

    • @bastienbauvineau562
      @bastienbauvineau562 11 месяцев назад +8

      I disagree. They are simplified, yes but they are even more efficient because they are also combined. If you take more attention : Strong Style is a combination of Djem So and Makashi. Djem So/Makashi are incredibly complementary as you can use fully the strength of each without sacrifing any ability of any of the two forms. Same for Fast Style (Ataru/Soresu) which is the combination of the most offensive form and the most defensive form together. Combined, you can focus on natural speed of Ataru/Soresu techniques to create a new form that is efficient both against blasters and in lightsaber combat.
      Medium Style being a combination of Shii-Cho and Niman means that you can still use the versatility of Niman with the simplicity and efficiency of Shii-Cho, which makes it more intuitive.
      These new Forms just not allow new Jedi to grow quicker but also stronger as they have better basics than any Padawan from Old Jedi Order and then they still have everything in their hands to build their own form. Look just at Kyle Katarn, he became strong quickly because of these Styles and it is the same for any Jedi from Luke's Order

    • @127mfan
      @127mfan 11 месяцев назад +3

      You misunderstand. The new forms have the *potential* to surpass the old ones. However, they're full of gaps at the beginning. If you study the 7 forms, they're more rigid, however each is a perfected style. There's no: "What should I do here?" Forms 8-10 need to be filled in by each student, and are incomplete until so. This would make the new form users weaker than the old ones, until they've fleshed out their style. And if there's one thing we know about this franchise, it loves throwing as many wars at you as possible. 🤣

    • @bastienbauvineau562
      @bastienbauvineau562 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@127mfan Still disagree. The old forms weren't perfected. Well, not before many years of training and specializing into it. But in the first years, each Form were simplified. But compared to New Styles, they only efficient in a specific situation. Three Styles are combined Forms so they are efficient already in different situations without spreading too much. That's why I think they are better not only in potential but also for the basics. But that's my opinion

      @@127mfan Arguably the versatility and freedom of the new forms is a strength, not a weakness. A Jedi should allow the Force to guide his movements, not rote adherence to trained motions. This sort of thing is why so many Jedi were mowed down in the Clone Wars by droids, Dark Jedi, and clones, because they lacked adaptability. In comparison Luke's NJO produced Jedi of a far higher average quality than those from the Old Republic, and even some of the greatest duelists of all time.

  • @kadbenson7540
    @kadbenson7540 11 месяцев назад +22

    I dont feel like the 3 new forms are better than the 7 old. But I do feel they're much faster at giving new jedi a good overall basis to build from. when they were started with children to adulthood I think they had much more time to help a padawan find their own very nuanced style they excelled in. With adult students their overall base skill and motorskills started much higher as well so it was much more important to have them get up to snuff quickly

  • @CosmicTron
    @CosmicTron 11 месяцев назад +11

    In my opinion I definitely believe that Luke Skywalker had is own version of Mace Windu's Vaapad. If we take a look at Luke's duel against Vader in Return of the Jedi it was that version of Vaapad that overwhelmed Vader when he spoke of Leia turning to the darkside. Luke struck with such speed that Vader could not keep up and he had difficulty countering Luke's strike it was like Vader was seeing 100 or 1000 of Luke's strikes all at once. Luke definitely channeled his darkness into his lightsaber, and even after defeating his father Luke was able to pull himself back from the darkness using his version of Vaapad. He was indeed knowledgeable of it I would say at this point is where he learned it.

      Honestly, I would look to Niman but fill the gaps in the form itself. After all, Niman is the longest form to learn, but perhaps if apply this structure to the three forms of Luke skywalker, you’ll create a perfect flow. Actually, I been doing my own combos by being inspired by the lightsaber forms. I created the “flow” form. Or “flow” state. It shares a lot with water and you are able to handle virtually any situation.

    It would make sense that luke could have found resources on the various formal light saber forms, including vaapad. But it does sort of make sense that he might have used such information as a loose guide, and developed his own style through having found his own path to balance in the dark and light sides of the force.

    I feel that since Luke allowed variations to the forms by those who learned them it stands to reason he developed his own special form suited to him and him alone. Much like Mace he used shatter points and could channel dark side as he was very much aware of his emotions. That was his greatest strength over again was his emotional stability as he knew more about himself and honestly wasn't stifled by the normal Jedi doctrine and inflexible teachers of the order. Obi wan, though a great Jedi, was not the best teacher for Anakin. It was only later he realized his mistakes as well as Yoda in the way they taught

      That move called trakata and it's not a form, just a move. Each form includes multiple moves. Also, one of Luke's students - Jedi Master Corran Horn recreated this technique.
      Corran uses trakata in combat:
      "Shedao Shai towered over him, rising up on his tiptoes to deliver that final blow. The amphistaff rose and crashed down, set to bash the lightsaber back into its wielder, slaying an infidel with the blasphemous weapon he embraced.
      With a flick of his thumb, Corran killed the blade and sagged forward.
      Overbalanced because his weapon met no resistance, Shedao Shai buried his amphistaff deep in the ground and stumbled a half-step forward. The surprise registering on his face widened his eyes, then his lips peeled back in a feral grin as Corran pressed his lightsaber against the Yuuzhan Vong's stomach. The lightsaber hissed. Argent light poured from Shedao Shai's mouth a second before he vomited black blood and collapsed to the ground, his spine severed, his belly smoking."

    I think the 3 new styles are the product of lousy writing. Was he training challenged students? Wow medium style, wonder how long it took the writer to make that up. Maybe form 11 will be super duper fast.

    That scene of Luke fighting off Jaba's gang was one of the worst lightsaber fight scenes we've had in Star Wars. Luke moved like a drunk holding a piece of wood trying to fend off raccoons. Only if George Lucas could have been a better director and had brought fighting stunts for those scenes. Still, Return of the Jedi is one of my favorite Star Wars movies. Note: I like many of your videos but I've noticed you have been recycling lots of old material (retelling same themes/stories). I hope to see more really new materials.

    Luke Skywalker is a hero to millions of fans worldwide! He bought hope to the galaxy. He helped his father redeam himself. He stopped the Empire. He never gave up. He is a hero. Its unfortunate Disney didn't respect the character 😔

    I like to think that Luke would’ve reinvented or had come up with vaapad on his own. Like he would’ve realized the idea of balance and redirecting energy and the darkness in an opponent by himself through his eu battles.

      fr bro, i also like to think that he naturally inherited muscle memory for some of the lightsaber combat. for example sports science talked about years ago how steph curry already had an advantage in shooting due to his dad, Dell being a great shooter as well

      I'd call it a stretch to say he "mastered" it just from that. He'd certainly have the fundamentals of it, though.

      @@xheralt i would say not mastered but very proficient none the less if he was keeping up with vader at his strongest (despite holding back some) on the second death star

    The Devs of Jedi Academy really did a good job with recreating these forms in video game format. They work exactly as described (although Force Speed is just all around helpful in that game but you DO get way better deflection with Fast style and FS combo).

    It's pretty hard to even self teach something with almost NO way to learn it an very rarely or never had anyone to teach you. He may have had a solid grasp of the saber and it's use BUT no way he had years to even Master the most basic an simple of forms. So naturally he'd have to adapt an improvise some of his own styles. In the post Jedi, Old Republic and Empire eras an decades. One can't pass on knowledge and training that they never got themselves. An makes sense he'd take a great many adults as students. Which is a way I think the Old School Yoda Era Jedi failed. Adults that have CHOSEN and determined to be a specific way in life are harder to sway. Especially if their abilities match what an order like the Jedi are looking for. Way harder to corrupt an anger an adult that's seen all the bad the Galaxy has already. Same to turning them Darker side then light of they're determined not to go.. as Palpatine an Vader themselves learned with Luke

    It's one of the only things I disagreed with master Luke and got lazy with even the names lol fast style,medium style ,🙄😵 .....form 5😳.....Atari🫨. They sound kooler 🤧. And it's not like there's weren't a bunch of jedis that joined Lukes new order who caught in the clone and wars, some in the high Republic era....so it's not like there weren't masters who were taught in the old forms and by after the empire time would be master's. All I'm saying my is like could've implemented the old forms again but didn't 🤪njejejhe

    Well we have to remember that before choosing or creating a style, each student in the old order had studied each form for a year or even 2. Only then did they progress to any real advanced training. This took loads of time, that the new order simply did not have. You could be in your teens, before ever picking your preferred style. Then you would need minimum of 10 years just to be proficient in even Niman, the diplomat style. Others could take double that.
