I have been cooking for well over sixty years, I love learning and looking at different recipes, from complicated to easy. My dear lady, if I may address you as such, it is a delight to hear your lovely English accent, down to earth instructions, a great video, much appreciated. Yes, I remember spam fritters, a staple meal in the past when there was so little choice to buy. Brilliant video, you could cook with me anytime, much respect!
When I do corned beef hash, it has fried onions, peppers, garlic, dijon mustard and boiled potatoes, all fried up with the corned beef added last with plenty of salt & black pepper.
My Mother when she had no money would make corned beef hash suprise the suprise was she didnt have the money for the corned beef so it was not included
We call this corn beef casserole in America but we quickly fry the corned beef and mix it well into the mashed potato. We also add French fried crispy onions ..... so good! Love seeing how everyone else prepares what we do. English cheddar is the best!!
I have never heard of this dish b4. Well I made this for the first time ever. To my surprise it all got eaten. My children loved it and are asking me to make again. Thank you so much for sharing.
That's is such a good tip about putting the tins in the refrigerator and then cutting the fat off. I never thought about that. My dad always makes corn beef and hash in the stove top. He cubes his potatoes and cooks them with onions and corn beef. I haven't had it in a long time.
Hey Kimberly there's so many variations isn't there this is just the way my mum would make it for us when I was a kid I've seen it fried up with a egg an that looks really tasty 2 :)
What I tend to do is have a layer of corned beef on the bottom covered in a layer of baked beans. Then I have a layer of mashed potato and fried onions mixed up together. Then I add the grated cheese to the top and as an extra little touch I put 4 raw eggs on the top of it and bake them with the corned beef hash so they blend nicely into it. Looks and tastes amazing when it comes out 😍
@@deebest4202 go for it! 😁 only little tip I would give you is to bake it without the eggs for about 15 minutes so the cheese melts into it and then pop the eggs on top of it and put it back in the oven for about 10-15 minutes. Otherwise the eggs will be overcooked.
I do it the same way my mother did, I slice the corned beef and layer it on the bottom of the dish filling in any gaps, mash the potatoes and layer that, and cover with sliced cheese again filling in any gaps and then into the oven. A little variation, but you have three distinct layers, and it's great with brown sauce.
Looks lovely . Funny everyone does it different I fry diced potatoes and onions sometimes a diced pepper as well . Then when the potato’s are done I add the corned beef . I have it with a fried egg .
Onions are a must - adding milk to mash potatoes only serves to make the potatoes wetter not creamier - either use cream or alternatively use an egg. This along with butter is more than adequate for perfect mash spuds. I never use white potatoes for mash as they have to much water content. Use red potatoes - if in doubt ask your greengrocer.

I mash the corned beef and the potato’s together then put into the oven dish on top of a layer of baked beans, then cheese on top !!! Job done all in one !!! 👍👍👍
Nothing like the one I make! I use corned beef (of course) sliced potatoes, chopped onions and carrots, add some good beef stock to cook, OXO cubes ok I use a pressure cooker. You can add a pastry top to make it a potato pie or make pasties with filling.

From the states, corned beef and taters is delish anyway you make them. Over here its usually diced potato and corned beef for the hash some add onion. We can also buy it premade in a can, great if your rushed lol. Your recipe looks good Ill have to give it a go, tho the beans are no for me .
Love the addition of cheese, never thought of that. However, I generally brown the corned beef with the onion, sometimes adding green or red bell peppers, with some garlic. I will have to try mashed potatoes, as I typically use hash brown potatoes.
Looks well Lush. My mum mashed the corned beef up with a fork, added the baked beans to it, then topped with potato and cheese. We loved it. Like you, I prefer my baked beans on the side
It’s called corned beef pie in our house! I put the beans in too, on top of the beef. Never though of two layers will try that next time and a cheesy top! Yum yum
That looks good, when I've had corned beef hash it's been more like a stew and I haven't really liked it. You do it like cottage pie though and I'd never thought of that. We boil sliced potatoes with an onion and an oxo, when spuds almost done ad cubed corned beef and beef gravey granular to thicken the eat from the pan.No mash or oven used just hob!!

You should not cut and throw away the fat. It adds a lot of delicious taste to the meal through the cooking process. I have noticed this a lot with home-grown cooks who grew up in the 90s with the erroneous idea that all fat is bad for you and to be avoided. Fat adds a lot to taste, especially with meat.
Hey Glen I agree 100% it's like how now days everyone is scared of carbs!! No doubt in a few years we will find out that the professionals where wrong about that and they will be moving on to another food group:)
First time viewer. This came up in my feed because I watched a different corned beef hash vid. This is different from any I've had in the states. Interesting. I've made beef brisket as corned beef. Using leftover meat and small cubed potatoes like potatoes O'Brien fry the mixture in a skillet and lastly add an egg to fry to preference for a terrific breakfast. The potatoes look nicely yellow. I love Yukon golds.
It's got to have onions, cube everything, cook but don't mash the spuds, and the fry in a deep pan turning often, leave for the last few minutes for a nice crisp browned bottom. Turn over onto a plate, serve sliced like a pie with pickled red cabbage.
When I first saw the canned beans I thought they were going into the casserole dish along with the Corned beef and mashed potatoes. I wasn't thrilled with that idea but decided to see the video through to the end. I'm glad I did. This looks tasty.
