See I was a pagan when i left protestantism, so I never quite said as much, but coming full circle to orthodoxy has actually kinda.... pulled the whole holiday season together for me.
@@Patristix Any time I have to explain something about Christianity/Orthodoxy, I try to point people towards your channel and Bible Explained. Please keep them coming!
my daughter is now getting old enough to start asking what this Santa business is. We've taken to explaining that Saint Nicholas was so generous that, every year, people dress up and give gifts in honor of him, and that "Santa" is what we call someone who does that. Here's hoping that, as she gets older, we can help her differentiate between the Wonderworker and The Santa Clause without too much frustration.
I always find myself tearing up when watching your videos. The sincerity, tenderness, intimacy, and affection of the Orthodox faith that you are able to convey always pierces right through. Thank you.
This is my favorite of your videos so far. So many wholesome moments in it, and wonderful perspective on what the Christmas season looks like in the West.
Thank you very much for explaining so well the miracles of Saint Nicolas. I went to venerate his relics this past summer and what a blessing in my life afterwards. Happy Feast of Saint Nicolas to everyone!
In Serbia, I think we are very fortunate that more than half of us have him as our patron saint. Though, we ought to know him better, honestly. Especially us younger people.
Thank you for this perspective! It's really strange how in the west we don't hear these stories. The idea of saints as family friends is such a warm picture :')
Amen! The number three seems to surround St Nicholas... 3 women, 3 bags of gold and 3 marriages. Seems fitting for the Saint who defended the orthodox faith and confession that there is one undivided God in three persons: Father, +Son, and Holy Spirit.
It’s interesting that the term Xmas actually has links to the Chi Ro symbol which means Christ the ever living King so a lot more religious than most people realise.
I would like to know how this real, historical middle-eastern Bishop morphed into the mythological, fantasy figure we have today, from the Arctic and riding a sleigh pulled by flying reindeer. The real Nicholas is unlikely to have known that the Arctic region exists and he would never have seen a reindeer, not even the normal non-flying variety. One version of the story you mentioned when he rescued a family from slavery was that he threw a bag of gold coins down their chimney and that they were caught in a stocking hung in front of the fire to dry. This explains the connection with chimneys and stockings, and also the tradition of giving bags of [fake] gold coins at Christmas. Probably many of those reading this will have either given or received a bag of chocolate coins covered in gold coloured foil at Christmas.
The Tomtar are interesting little fellows! There's a similar version in Slavic countries but they all get names for where they happen to live. "Domovoi" is the one that lives in the house (dom=house). Like the Tomte they also vary in whether they are good or mischievous.
@alanhope8971 I agree I am wrong, I know I said that wrong. Its The One True Holy Apostolic Catholic Church.* And of course I quicklyy learnt that Patristix is an Orthodox RUclipsr lol. Truth is Only Christ, as you know of course. Just worded that way because of reasons as you may know but not on yt. I am still wrong but hope you know my intentions although no better.
The irony of saying Santa Claus is fake as a kid just to convert to Orthodoxy as an adult and asking Saint Nicholas to intercede on my behalf. 😂
Haha that's actually pretty funny.
This is me too.
Same but I became Catholic
Same!

Easily the best Orthodox channel.
You're very kind!

That sounds like the best method I've heard of.
We are all Santa on the inside lol
I believe Santa in northern Europe means saint. Claus is short for Nicholas (Niclause)

You can see the passion behind this one. Thank you for all your hard work. May God bless you all.
Thank you so much!

We enjoyed making this one!
Wow I visited the cathedral in Cologne but I didn’t knew the relics of the 3 wise men where there!

Thank you. This channel is such a blessing.
Love the editing in this, keep up making stylish releases brother ☦❤
Very neat hearing that the Russians on the ISS took icons up there. Average Russian gotta love them
I love your videos so much, they are useful overviews of saints.

Interesting video thank you.
Fun fact: saint nicholas is considered the protector to the hellenic navy
Sounds right! The man knows how to get a ship home safely.
We also remember him at Mass on December 6 in the Catholic Church.
If kids believe Santa Claus, they should know the real St Nicholas.
Amusing story.
As usual, I learned something new. 👏🏿

Name of background music?
Tnx youre mentioning our dutch ancestors 😊
a wonderful point on commercialism being Christianised for one time in the year.
A slap can be way more forceful, over a wider area, and cause more pain than a punch.
Unless you slapping them as hard as slap boxing usually slaps will generate much less force
My church is named after him
He's a really wonderful saint!
In Scandinavia we don't have Santa we have Jultomten, he is based on Oden and the mythical creatures name Tomtar

Eastern Orthodoxy Is The One Truth.
Jesus is the one truth.

Catholics/Orthodox celebrates and honors Saint Nicholas and the nativity of our Saviour Jesus Christ. ✨
What makes Arius a heretic?
We briefly touch on it at 4:41 in the following video: ruclips.net/video/EBgu-n7N7WU/видео.html
He denied the Trinity and the Divinity of Jesus Christ. He took a unitarian view and his beliefs resembles those of modern day Jehovah's Witnesses.
Today is the feast of St Nicholas, according to Julian calendar
Saint Nikolaos is the actual name
My Slava is St. Nikolas which we celebrate on the 19th Dec. There is no faith like the orthodox faith.
Beautiful stories ,Saint Nicholas pray for us sinners and help .Amen 🙏💖💐
