The Theotokos was the first Christian. She was the first to believe her son was the Saviour. It makes total sense that she is the chief human being in our church.
Previously as a Protestant I thought the “Mary stuff” was weird. Until I realized her blood literally nourished our God. And he chose her from the beginning of time. All the death in the old testament was to preserve her for His birth. So I started praying the rosary and it has brought me so close to God.
Go go go! Many Protestants sing about the blood of Jesus in dozens of songs. It helped us to realize his blood came from her. Her heart and his heart shared blood for months on end. If the hem of Christ’s garment can heal how much more healing through sharing his blood for nine months. Her womb contained the uncontainable God making it more spacious than the heavens. What an incredible and incomprehensible reality. No wonder she makes philosophers mute as fish.
lol, you made me realize something funny. People will devote entire books to studying the bloodline of Jesus, proving he was from the tribe of Judah. But the second the bloodline hits Mary, it’s like, “NOPE!”

Thanks for this video! Im a protestant and i love hearing an honest heartfelt explanation. Iv been considering converting to the Orthodox Church for a while but this topic and a few others concern me. Not deeply, but enough to give me pause. Keep doing what your doing! I appreciate it so much sir. May God bless you and bless others through you!
Thank you for watching, and may God bless your journey! Would definitely recommend taking all your concerns to your priest, and chatting them through openly. This, and attending the liturgy and services, are the most helpful things in learning about Orthodoxy and the Early Church! We can introduce what the Early Church taught, but to live it is what matters. All the best!
Great channel, brother. I love the peaceful and easy-to-understand way you explain things. The topics you choose are intriguing. Your tea collection is also really interesting, and the way you describe the flavours. But also you are one of the few channels who have subtitles, especially so early in your channel's history, and they're not auto-generated either. This is a great service for people with hearing problems, or whose mother language isn't English, and many more people. So for all this I want to thank you, I have already recommended your channel to my sister, hope to see you growing soon.

Even when I was a child brought up in protestantism, I never understood the outright disrespect and hate of Mary. On a human level it didn't make sense to me. The whole idea seemed extremely wrong to me. I couldn't picture a reality where Jesus would tolerate disrespect of his mother. Just as any good son of a loving mother wouldn't tolerate it. So when I converted, having The Theotokos put in her own rights just felt warming and right.
Thank you for this simple explanation. I am a Protestant researching the early church and it’s led me to the Orthodox Church. This explanation is so helpful! I couldn’t wrap my mind around Mary.

I was exalted like a palm tree in Cades, and as a rose plant in Jericho: As a fair olive tree in the plains, and as a plane tree by the water in the streets, was I exalted. I gave a sweet smell like cinnamon. and aromatical balm: I yielded a sweet odour like the best myrrh: And I perfumed my dwelling as storax, and galbanum, and onyx, and aloes, and as the frankincense not cut, and my odour is as the purest balm. I have stretched out my branches as the turpentine tree, and my branches are of honour and grace. As the vine I have brought forth a pleasant odour: and my flowers are the fruit of honour and riches. I am the mother of fair love, and of fear, and of knowledge, and of holy hope. In me is all grace of the way and of the truth, in me is all hope of life and of virtue. Come over to me, all ye that desire me, and be filled with my fruits. For my spirit is sweet above honey, and my inheritance above honey and the honeycomb. My memory is unto everlasting generations. They that eat me, shall yet hunger: and they that drink me, shall yet thirst. He that hearkeneth to me, shall not be confounded: and they that work by me, shall not sin. They that explain me shall have life everlasting. All these things are the book of life, and the covenant of the most High, and the knowledge of truth. Moses commanded a law in the precepts of justices, and an inheritance to the house of Jacob, and the promises to Israel. "And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For with God nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her. And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda; And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth. And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord. And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. He hath helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy; As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever." - Luke 1:26-55
This account is such a blessing! Thank you so much for these videos. It’s so great having all of these difficult topics broken down in such a simple manner.
Thank you so much for making this. As someone looking to convert this is a topic that I have struggled with and this is by far the best explanation I have heard. I understand the concept but it is new and a highly debated subject. I have researched it and this video makes it more comfortable for me.
I'm struggling to fall in love with Mary. I pray the rosary, but I'm trying to figure out how to Love, in general, so I can one day be a disciple like you said and see Mary as my mother too. Thank you for this video, it touched my heart (soul).
What can we say without thanking her son to gave us his mother❤.am from Ethiopia the protestant think like we are worshipping her. This is awful they don't even know what they're missing
was having such a sentimental moment listening to this until 7:19 “maybe she is exactly like your mother, but look at the difference in the sons” and i can still feel that burn 800 years later 😩😂
As a student of archaeology cultural anthropology, I didn't ever see the role of Holy Theotokos to be problematic even when I was non-Orthodox (because I was able to see it in its cultural context). But one realization that was revolutionary to me was to understand that Mary has very similar role in the kingdom of Heaven than queen Esther had in the kingdom of Persia... just like Esther prayed her husband for her people (Jews), also Mary prays for the salvation of Christians and all people without loosing heart. And as told in this video, Mary is much more than Esther - she is the Mother of the King.

He hath helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy; As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever."

Wow… you said this so absolutely beautifully. ❤❤❤
I have heard that Eastern Orthodoxy believes that Mary is sinless. Where does that idea come from and why did it come about?
Well said !
All these videos make me cry😭😭
Thank you so much for making this. As someone looking to convert this is a topic that I have struggled with and this is by far the best explanation I have heard. I understand the concept but it is new and a highly debated subject. I have researched it and this video makes it more comfortable for me.

I'm struggling to fall in love with Mary. I pray the rosary, but I'm trying to figure out how to Love, in general, so I can one day be a disciple like you said and see Mary as my mother too. Thank you for this video, it touched my heart (soul).
Why are you praying the rosary? Are you Catholic?
@@Smackyjack440ortahdox chritians have their own version of the rosssry
What can we say without thanking her son to gave us his mother❤.am from Ethiopia the protestant think like we are worshipping her. This is awful they don't even know what they're missing
What is the song in the intro? I know I’ve heard it in Greek but I loved the instrumental!
It's a rendition of Agni Parthene, a hymn to the Theotokos by Saint Nectarios of Aegina. It's a BEAUTIFUL song!
Радуйся Невеста Неневестная ❤🙏☦
Great channel.
was having such a sentimental moment listening to this until 7:19 “maybe she is exactly like your mother, but look at the difference in the sons” and i can still feel that burn 800 years later 😩😂
Beautifully put, thank you!
