Out of thousans of kilometres of streets, avenues and boulevards in this city. Downtown Vancouver only consist of 3% of the area. Well, the DTES (downtown east side) is only 10 city blocks long!. It is sad but, to me, still a beautiful city.
I used to work DTES Vancouver (Main and Hastings) for approx 7 years and the problem has gotten worse since covid happened. It’s an unfortunate situation and has many complex issues that may not have an easy solution. I do have to say is that I never had an issue with my safety at that location and I met a lot of good people in the DTES. They’re just doing their best to survive and want a respectful standard of living like everyone else.
Of course most comments here are disgustingly ignorant. News flash, this IS NOT “the real Canada” its been an issue in this area for decades. Ridiculous.
