been pin cushions down there since the 80's, remember my drug awareness classes in the 80's and they had videos of the addicts on Hastings shooting heroin, just more of them now
I moved to Maple Ridge 47 years ago. There were horse trails down road sides, farms, peaceful neighbourhoods. Now there are drug addicts and homeless people everywhere. Crime has escalated and during the Covid "lock down", all you saw was staggering zombies pushing shopping carts on the side walks. I now live in East M.R. and even out here there are bicycle thieves stealing mail out of roadside mail boxes. So evil for us that work hard to live. I pay over $6000 a year in taxes and don't even have water, garbage pick up, road lights, or sidewalks! I have to drive every day in the spring and summer into the fall to get water 6 miles away in my truck and people come out here to steal from us.
You don't need to go all the way to Vancouver there are places is Toronto that look similar , I think we need to reopen metal health facilities and start a mandatory rehab program for those found in the street tripping in public . We don't want to invite the criminal element back in by criminalizing it , like say banning handguns might do ? Correction , will do.
This is only a small section of Vancouver city. Be that as it may, it is still a big problem the government really needs to put in more effort to solve.
I remember in the 1960's, on Sundays, after church, my family would take a drive to Gastown in Vancouver, and there would be hippies dressed in kaftans, long hair, wearing beads, sitting on the sidewalks with flowers, saying, peace, love, and we so scared of them we'd shut the windows and lock our doors because we didn't know what these weird people were going to do! How different now. They didn't steal, or do hard drugs, well some, but mostly weed or LSD which didn't kill them. Now the death rate is awful.... in Maple Ridge.

Do you think this doesn't happen in every single city and town across the world? These are people who were abused, whether sexually, physically or mentally and sometimes all 3, that turn to drugs to overcome the agony of their lives. Who knows how these poor souls became "broken". They are just trying to live as best they can through the agony of their existence.
@@1BYEBYE1 It is absolutely impossible to starve to death if you live on the street unless you actively try to do that. "Do you think this doesn't happen in every single city and town across the world?" Live in your comfort zone, dude. If this were common in cities other than in the West, why don't we see them in East European countries, or even in Near- Middle-East, is spite of the latter having suffered continuous wars.
