Hi . thank you for your video. My coffee maker is a Breville model BES870XL/B unfortunately the pressure does not rise. The gauge is working. The pump worked by taking out an output pipe from it and turning it on, and it had a good output pressure. All the pipes are clean, and I cleaned them twice with special tablets. Nice video. I roast my own beans. How many days rest should I give them before using in the machine. Technically I could use them within minutes of roasting - you can't get fresher than that, however others have advised to let them set-up for at least 5-7 days. Can you comment on that? Thanks.
I did the pressure test with the single wall double shot + cleaning disk without a hole. No water came out and the pressure gauge didn't go higher than 12 o'clock. My machine is 2 days old. Do you think i have a faulty machine? Gone through 500 grams of beans, from finest to coarse. ALways sour coffee and never a pressure build up..
My pressure gauge would not move, but watching this video and changing the cup or whatever it is, it is working now. All I have to do now. Is test it with the coffee and see how it goes.
Hi I use the non pressurize basket and the cleaning disk without hole. I only get 11 oclock pressure range. I dont get the Maximum Pressure same to your video. Thank you
I’ve just done the same test no dripping water and my machine also only reaches 11 o’clock pressure. I’ve tried both test and multiple different coffee beans, grind sizes, tamping etc and my machine won’t go higher than 11 o’clock. I am in the process of sending it back to be fixed or replaced as it is likely to be faulty :(
Hello Aju, what if during extraction, the coffee drips instead of flowing? It is weird because one day that just happened, it wasn’t like that before. Before I could get nice crema, honey-like flowing coffee. And this time the pressure spiked as well, way above the grey area. Hope you see my question..
That means your grind size is too fine. So its choking the hot water flow. To fix, grind it coarser (2 or 3 steps higher grind size number) and try again. Are u using pressurized basket?
@@AjusCafei see, I didn’t think of that before! Thank you so much Aju, I will try to grind more coarse. It happened right after changing beans. Really appreciate your view.
That all you get with dual wall basket. If u need to see MAXIMUM Pressure, use your cleaning disk with it. Make sure u have the disk without a hole in the middle
Thanks for your video, but 1 question, please. My machine does not (ever) reach 1 o'clock. Should I return my breville? I tried your rubber disc method, pressurized portafilter method, adjusting outer burrs to grind finer using fresh beans. Only reaches 11 o'clock. I have never ever seen a 1 o'clock pressure on my machine, some say it's perfectly fine with 9 bars machine, some reach 1 o'clock just fine with 9 bars... I am so confused!
Hi, My Machinw, when using dual vale, nothing brewing out nad presure reaches beond the gray area. can you let me know how to resolve this issue. i opend and cleaned the hose too that goes to presure gage.
Are you getting some water out when you run the machine without coffee grinds in a dual wall? If yes, the you need to grind your beans coarser. Example if you are at 4, set it and 8 and see
I have the opposite issue, but only with the single shot basket. I use non pressurized baskets for both single and double shot espresso. Beans and grind settings are common for both baskets. While using double shot basket, everything is fine, I get pressure between 12 and 1 o clock position with a beautiful shot. But with single shot (all other settings unchanged), the pressure rises above 1 o clock and then the machine spills the water all over the place, coming out of the top of the basket and spraying the ground all around the machine. The pressure immediately drops and I get coffee grind in the cup. If I use the double wall single shot basket, everything works fine! Any reason why it's happening only in single shot basket and how to fix it?
Hi there. Thank you for the videos. The pre infusion process has stopped working on my Breville barista express. It sounds like a low hum and steam sounds during this part of the process now whereas the pump sound used to run and then when it went into extraction mode it would get louder. It is not registering any pressure until extraction mode. Please help. Thanks.
During preinfusion, there will be no pressure or very less pressure shown. But if it makes sound then I suspect Solenoid. See this video to find if it sounds similar ruclips.net/video/LosOY6NjiFM/видео.htmlsi=W0KX_yuB4XNwo1z5
It used to always show pressure in the pre infusion area of the gauge. Now the needle doesn’t move until extraction and it goes into the extraction area of the gauge as expected . If it is solenoid would the extraction process be working normally? Thank you.
Hi, I’m trying to fix my broken machine. It’s not holding pressure will pull shots with cleaner head and dual wall filter and it’ll only get to about 25-30% pressure. I’ve cleaned the shower head group and inspected the gasket both clean and no cracks. I’ve opened up the back of the machine and see no visible leaks. Still very low pressure and I have no idea how to fix. Please help if you can.
I have replaced both solenoids on my sage barista express and doing the test you have just done, still does not give high pressure. Using the rubber backflush method im lucky if it reaches 12 oclock
Hi bro. Thanks for this great video. I have a question. My machine can get to the 11 oc pressure with dual wall basket but it can't get higher pressure with cleaning blind rubber . My cleaning rubber has no hole in the middle and its fully blinded! Does my machine have problem ?
Make sure you place it straight down in the basket. Was there any water dripping during test? Try single size basket pressurized. Secondly physically observe the silicon gasket on the ground head. If its worn out or cracked, Pressure can leak
@@AjusCafe i used single basket too. No difference at all and i check the washer no tear and leakge found. Is it possible that problem comes from pump?

@@attilamolnar1646thanks for the reply. So yes if you get 10 bar pressure in a new machine, you are good. When you make espresso, are you getting in range of 9 bar atleast? Just to let you know 9 bar is the most acceptable espresso extraction
My problem is when I test the machine and use the dual wall pressurized cup, instead of going to 11am on the pressure dial, it goes all the way up to the highest pressure - no water comes out. When I put coffee in this same cup, no coffee comes out. However, when I put coffee in the perforated cup, the pressure is too low and doesn’t achieve the grey area - and no crema is formed. Have you had this combination of results before? What would the issue be? Thank you!
When I test using my double wall filter, the pressure goes beyond the gray range and registers very high pressure. So I was worried that the water flow is clogged somewhere inside the machine. Then I use a single wall filter without cleaning kit, there is no pressure. So I guess the water flow is not clogged inside. Is it because my double wall filter is clogged? If so how do you suggest to clean the filter to unclog? The double wall filter has been used for long time and I simply rinse it after each time I use it. Also I saw in your video, your cleaning disk does not have a hole in the middle. Mine has a hole of needle tip size in the middle. So when I use it along with a single wall filter for testing, there is no pressure.
Your machine seems good and there is hole is backflush disk in 1st generation machines. All good there. Your Pressurized basket need some clean. ruclips.net/video/oNEgUli_DwA/видео.html And ruclips.net/video/DaWr5lJZpEM/видео.html
Can someone please help, I’m getting between 55-65g out of my machine from 18g of coffee grinded between 4-5 setting with burr internal of 3. Is my machine broken ? I’ve performed the pressure test in the video and it’s perfect but still getting too much liquid 😞
i have a weird thing going on with my Sage Barista pro i hadn't used it for a while and had ordered new beans and received them I opened the bag and thought i had immediately found my right grind settings as during the pre brew infusion phase of the extraction nothing came dripping out (which used to be a good indicator for me) but weirdly enough no pressure built op on the pressure gauge. then the shot started pouring pretty nicely, extraction wasn't too slow or fast and it looked nice. but the pressure gauge only started rising near the end of the shot and never really got to the point i expedted it to go to. any ideas on what could be wrong? been happening every time since...
My pressure is registering but nowhere in the middle of the gray zone. The pressure with cleaning disk is right in the middle. What am I doing wrong ? I'm using fresh beans.
When I am using the rubber seal basket to clean, the pressure gauge always stuck at 11 o'clock, is it normal? I never can get pressure over 11 o'clock, but still it produce good coffee for me.. I don't know if it is an issue on the gauge or the pumping machine.. 😢
I noticed the same thing on my new machine we bought 4 days ago. I called customer service and they mentioned that is the expected pressure for the newer machines. They didn't explain why.
@@AjusCafe no hole on the disk. It looks like the newer machines have the pressue reduced from factory. They realized people were doing the OTP mod to redução pressure and getting good results
When I’m pulling a shot my gauge is at good pressure but it then jumps up higher and then the shot stops. Any idea why? I just bought it the other day and it took me prob 25 shots to dial my store bought labeled “fresh roasted” espresso beans.
Every time you buy new beans you need to dial in. Assuming you are using Non-pressurized basket? Make sure the holes are not block. Change your grind size to more coarser and see. Normally it starts with Pre-Infusion in low pressure and then full extraction in 9 bar pressure. So that jump is normal.
No... you did the right thing by using single walled. You are supposed to use single walled. The issue to be corrected is - buy freshly Roasted beans (with Roasted date less than a week old). Then use single walled basket. The double walled is for preground coffee only. It won't bring all the espresso flavors out.
Hi there, so if your machina was working properly after the tests, why the espresso didn’t come out good in your first trial? What was wrong in this case?
Just bought this machine but I think not working properly. I try like you said with dual wall basket but pressure going just little bit more then second line into grey area. Like watch ho indicate a bit more then 10 o clock. After that I tryed with plastic cleaning pod and the pressure isn't going to the maximum it's going just to 12 o clock. I would like to know if it s alright or something it's wrong with my machine. The model is barista express impress. And there is no hole in that cleaning disc. I have tried serveral times but the pressure is not going more then 12 even less. What can I do. Is it possible to have a issue with the machine? I will ask the seller to replace it. Thank you!
I don't have Impress, and I'm not too sure if they've adjusted the pressure to get 9 bar compared to 15 bar pressure on Barista Express. I also came across with another Imoress user saying the same thing like u, after he did the pressure test. So I think there is nothing wrong with your machine. But if u got it replaced, can u do the same test and confirm if you get 9 or 15 bar pressure with blank disk?
@@AjusCafe I have the exact same problem. The first Breville Barista Express BES870 unit from Amazon I had was only getting to about 11 o'clock during the pressure test using the cleaning disc method (w/ no hole). So I called Amazon up and got a new replacement unit sent out. The second replacement unit has arrived and I've ran the pressure test using the cleaning disc method (w/ no hole) again and the pressure gauge reading is marginally better with the gauge reaching to 12 o'clock. This is a reading which is within the 'ideal range' yet with no water coming out, this leads me to believe the pressure/pressure gauge is faulty on this unit as well. The pressure guage doesn't get close to the max pressure you demostrated in this demo. I wonder if this is a common problem across these models.
@@AjusCafe I think the other user you are talking about is also me. I commented on the user iiitttaaalllyyy2424 in the lines below. I haven't been able to get in touch with costumer support at sage yet, but I've been watching official barista videos and I think this is the maximum pressure this machine can reach. If 9 bars is a bad thing or a good thing, I still don't know because I'm a beginner in espresso. I think only you can tell me if it is good or bad. I had an automatic coffee machine in the past. Even the new editions of the barista express models, from what I saw on the official website, were changed from 15 to 9 bars. I'm talking about the model you make videos for. So the colleague who wrote below may not have any problem with the pressure on the express model. I think that the producer should publicly clarify this problem through a video and thus avoid returns. Why don't they make a video about changing the pressure and what pressure these newer models can reach? If you can do a video with this model and the max pressure can get this machine I ll be glad to wach it.
@@geany5900 To answer your question, espresso pressure should be between 7-11 bar ideally. Some machines like BBE has 15 bar pressure. Is 9 bar good or bad? My answer is 9 bar is good and that's the number for rich, think, concentrated espresso shot and it will greatly reduce spurs related to channeling. So I will wait for you or other user to confirm this after they get a reply from Breville about Impress. Thank you.
Hey geandanborali7290, thank you all for your input and replies, and a special thanks to Aju's Cafe for making this video and replying so promptly on a 7-month-old video (you're a credit to the entire coffee community and we appreciate it). Now on to business...I've just gotten off the phone with Breville customer support and they have assured me that all the newer models are physically limited to 9-bars of pressure max. This means the Pressure gauge during the pressure test will only show a reading of about 11:30 (i.e just before the needle points fully vertical). As I mentioned in my earlier reply that I've had 2 of these new models and both read virtually the exact same (give or take a 1mm or 2mm). I did mention to them that they really should have made it clear in the manual or maybe even installed a new pressure gauge itself since using the old style one is very misleading and considering they haven't updated their youtube pressure test videos to explain this or demonstrate the new models newer pressure reading; how is anyone supposed to know. The support agent helping me mentioned to me they are constantly receiving calls daily for this very reason. 1st Side Note: I purchased mine from Amazon and when I was under the impression that the first machine I received was faulty they sent me out a new machine which arrived 14 hours later (I placed a call to Amazon customer support at 7 pm and the new machine showed up at 9 am the next day) absolutely incredible customer service and zero wait time on the phone. 2nd Side Note: Breville did explain that these newer models' lower 9-bar pressure limit is really the ideal pressure for coffee but also the wear on the coffee machine is considerably less and kinder to the machine's internal parts itself, especially since newcomers who tend to constantly over pressuring there machine. They still use the same 15-bar pressure pump but are limited to 9-bars. 3rd Side Note: I'm using the BBE (Breville Barista Express BES870) but these new bar pressure changes have been rolled out across other models they make as well (e.g the Impress). So there we have folks, I hope this helps everyone who has been concerned their machine is faulty/not working correctly.
Wouldn't putting a cleaning tablet in it, and running a cleaning cycle show you if the pressure is working? Once you know the pump is working, you can then figure out why the coffee pressure is not because now you know it is not the machine, it is you.
Aju, my machine is new, but when I test the pressure like you do in the video it only gets to the 9:00 position, just below the espresso range. I've tested with the dual wall single cup and the dual wall double cup with the same results. Does this mean there is something wrong with my machine? Every espresso I've attempted to make has been sour
If your machine is new and if the Pressure test failed, then there os something wrong. What Pressure do you get when you use the cleaning silicone disk with pressurized single cup basket? More than 9 o clock?
Same problem with my machine. I tried with the dual wall double cup and the presure going a bit more 10 position. And with the cleaning disc not going up to 12 even less. I have tried serveral times but the pressure is not going more then 12 even less. What can I do. Is it possible to have a issue with the machine? And the machine is new. Bought few days ago.
This video is fantastic, you've made my coffee so much better! Thank you very much.
Thank you
My pressure gauge would not move, but watching this video and changing the cup or whatever it is, it is working now. All I have to do now. Is test it with the coffee and see how it goes.
I added my coffee, and it works very well, and it taste really good

When you do this, do you see any water dripping from the Portafilter?
@@AjusCafe no dripping of water sir

@@AjusCafeoh yes, I’m using the dual wall basket as usual.
Hi there. Thank you for this. I get pressure with the dual wall basket but no pressure with the single wall. Why would that be?
with the dual wall, im only getting half pressure ( 11'o''clock).
I wonder why its not getting any higher.
That all you get with dual wall basket. If u need to see MAXIMUM Pressure, use your cleaning disk with it. Make sure u have the disk without a hole in the middle
Hi i use the cleaning disk still 11 oclock pressure :(
Same problem here😢
Thanks for your video, but 1 question, please.
New machines are set at 9 bar pressure. So its normal what you get.
Great videos! You saved my wife and I using this crazy machine. Thanks man
Glad to hear that
What if I have the opposite problem?
Too much pressure? I’m having problems with high pressure
Did you ever figure out your problem? I’m having the same problem where the pressure is too high and no liquid comes out.
I have replaced both solenoids on my sage barista express and doing the test you have just done, still does not give high pressure. Using the rubber backflush method im lucky if it reaches 12 oclock

If the basket is not filled upto the razar level, that could happen. Increase the dose and dial coarser and see. Some type of beans can do that.

HI, I hope you wil see my comment. My Brevile does not go higher as 10 bar no mather what I do. And it is brand new!! I tought the first one was broken, so I change it. But this one is the same. Do you know why??
I heard the new Breville's pressure is adjusted to 9 - 10bar. Rather than 14 bar. So you are good. Also does your cleaning disk have a hole?
Thank you for answering my question!! My disc does not have a hole! I have performed the test several times and every time it goes up to 10 bars !!
@@attilamolnar1646thanks for the reply. So yes if you get 10 bar pressure in a new machine, you are good. When you make espresso, are you getting in range of 9 bar atleast? Just to let you know 9 bar is the most acceptable espresso extraction
Yes I get 9 bar wen I make the expreso!! Thanks for answering my question!!!
Your Pressurized basket need some clean. ruclips.net/video/oNEgUli_DwA/видео.html

i have a weird thing going on with my Sage Barista pro
i hadn't used it for a while and had ordered new beans and received them
I opened the bag and thought i had immediately found my right grind settings as during the pre brew infusion phase of the extraction nothing came dripping out (which used to be a good indicator for me) but weirdly enough no pressure built op on the pressure gauge. then the shot started pouring pretty nicely, extraction wasn't too slow or fast and it looked nice.
but the pressure gauge only started rising near the end of the shot and never really got to the point i expedted it to go to.
any ideas on what could be wrong? been happening every time since...
What is broken in the machine if non of this is working?:( is it the waterpomp that needs to replace ??

When I am using the rubber seal basket to clean, the pressure gauge always stuck at 11 o'clock, is it normal? I never can get pressure over 11 o'clock, but still it produce good coffee for me.. I don't know if it is an issue on the gauge or the pumping machine.. 😢

Hello! My breville does have pressure, it goes up to gray area on the dial gauge, but no coffe come out at all.! Please any help!
What is the grind size you use?
When I’m pulling a shot my gauge is at good pressure but it then jumps up higher and then the shot stops. Any idea why? I just bought it the other day and it took me prob 25 shots to dial my store bought labeled “fresh roasted” espresso beans.
Every time you buy new beans you need to dial in. Assuming you are using Non-pressurized basket? Make sure the holes are not block. Change your grind size to more coarser and see. Normally it starts with Pre-Infusion in low pressure and then full extraction in 9 bar pressure. So that jump is normal.
Nicely shot video with some good tips.
Welcome
Thanks so much, all this time I had no pressure because I wasn’t using the double wall cup. Doh! 😂
No... you did the right thing by using single walled. You are supposed to use single walled. The issue to be corrected is - buy freshly Roasted beans (with Roasted date less than a week old). Then use single walled basket. The double walled is for preground coffee only. It won't bring all the espresso flavors out.
I just descaled and tried to extract but I only get high pressure no coffee? What would be the problem? Please help. I have a Breville express
Did you ever figure out your problem? I’m having the same issue!
What grind size should i use for non pressure basket?
Always use Non-pressurized basket
Hi there, so if your machina was working properly after the tests, why the espresso didn’t come out good in your first trial? What was wrong in this case?
How was the taste? Bitter or Sour? Did you warmup the machine, portafilter, basket etc before the 1st shot?

This was super informative, thank you!
Welcome
Very usefull information. thank you very much.
Wouldn't putting a cleaning tablet in it, and running a cleaning cycle show you if the pressure is working?
Once you know the pump is working, you can then figure out why the coffee pressure is not because now you know it is not the machine, it is you.
Yes. Both cycles are similar. But you don't want to waste cleaning tablets just to check pressure right?
Is this machine 9 bar when making espresso?
The pressure Guage shows how many bars pressure. If its in grey zone, its around 9 bar pressure.
Thanks Aju, great information
