  • My friends, it took me really long to find out that autumn might be the best season to depict in miniature! So many colors, contrasts, and different textures... and most importantly, mud and dirty water puddles!

    The "simple" scene is in my opinion is the hardest to pull off because every element must be as visually appealing.

Not only is the result at the quality of picture-perfect realism, but the staggering amount of effort applied to each individual detail in each project is inspiring. If you applied your diorama skills to a wargaming hobby such as Warhammer, I wonder how cool you could make them look if you applied the same amount of work ethic. I pray that you continue to upload outstanding work like this.

  • @markfergerson2145

    You should be proud of this diorama. You’ve put everything you’ve learned up to this point into it, and personally I prefer smaller, more concise dioramas (verging on vignettes). It has all the elements necessary to tell a larger story than it seems, with nothing extraneous.
    I think the reason the wood grain base works so well with this scene is due to the contrast between the lighter wood and the very dark mud. The terrain-following upper edge, particularly on the front of the diorama, emphasizes the three dimensionality of the ruts. It’s the first thing my eye was drawn to before differentiating the thing into its elements and how they went together.This kind of front loads the brain to see and appreciate the three dimensionality of the whole diorama. It’s just another visual hack.
    Your standard black base does the same thing with lighter ground features like sand and snow.

  • @XyerDark
    @XyerDark Год назад

    Wood stains often have different rules, such as needing multiple coats, wiping excess off, needing some sanding before reapplication and more.
    It is a good idea to always read labels for such things, also if these are only stains that don't harden the wood may have no protection, which in your case isn't a problem but if you want a better shiny finish simply rub a rug on some wax (beesewax ideal but any candle will do) and give it a pass over the veneer.
