I am just getting back into modeling again after being gone for over 40 years. I have been watching your videos and I have learned a lot, but I liked this version better. Thanks it was amazing
Really enjoyed this long format - it's great to watch, but also to hear you explain the thought process behind each step. The build turned out fantastic, thank you for sharing!
Like others have said, I love this long format. I learn so much. I tend to watch these long videos multiple times and discover new details with each watch. Thank you for putting such time and effort into sharing your work with us.
You and @ChampionScaleModelling are two of my favourite RUclipsrs - your videos are longer, but there's no waffle, just great informative and occasionally humorous commentary.
While I build my models usually I put RUclips videos of people building theirs. I love when they talk about the hobby, the model their are making, and give their opinions. This video it's just great, great work and great finish.
Brett I just got done with this video, I have to say that the length is fine, really well done. Now I'm not really a aircraft modeler but I have built some over the years but I am primarily a warships builder and diorama builder. Primarily I build 1/700 & 1/350. My current project is a 1/700 scale diorama of Pearl Harbor, yes, I am doing the full harbor and shipyard. I must say that I have really enjoyed your channel and it is amazing to see the a work of art transform from a box of plastic. Great job and I appreciate you and your work.
I put figures with my models whenever I can, and dioramas are extra room for that. They look sterile without them, like a lonely motor pool. Thanks, and great job.
@57:12min That is a component (Antenna) of one of the world’s first Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) units that allows ground-based radar to identify the aircraft as friendly. The unit receives impulses from "Freya" or "Würzburg" radar stations. When enabled and properly set with the day’s codeword, the FuG 25a replies with a pre-defined signal that the ground station can process to identify the unit as friendly. The FuG 25a operates in the frequency range of 125 +/-1.8 MHz, with the operating range of up to 100 km. Lovely build!
Indipendentemente dal filo, sei bravissimo veramente!! Applausi davvero!! Risultato finale meraviglioso!! 👏👏👏 Regardless of the thread, you are truly very good!! Really applause!! Wonderful final result!! 👏👏👏
Glad you like Greg's aeroplanes and automobiles too! Often I find myself wanting to make a model of a plane that he features. I find the subject most so much more interesting if I know about is development, history and usage.
Enjoyed the video. Definitely enjoy the longer versions gets more detailed of what you’re doing and the techniques you’re doing, so I can apply them to my models.
I think you have done a spectacular job on this build. I also enjoyed the longer format. It did not waffle on and was constantly informative. My only critique is on some of the colour choices. My research over the years on the Fw190 has found that the interior was painted RLM66, which is a very similar tone to the German grey you used. It is a little more blue however and this can be seen in the colour of the photo etched cockpit panels. The upper colours were RLM74 and RLM75, with the lower surfaces being RLM76. Wheel wells, inside gear doors, and the internals of structures except the cockpit were RLM02. That includes the undercarriage legs. The problem with these Luftwaffe aircraft though is very late in the war they used a whole bunch of different colours. Eduard have been pretty good of late with getting their colour call outs on point. The RLM80 you used on top of your build was seen together with RLM79 sandgelb on Luftwaffe aircraft in the North African theatre. Regardless of these colour call outs it’s a beautiful build, it looks fantastic and you should be very proud of your efforts. Thank you for sharing with us and keep up the great work.
Yes, this was brilliant, thanks so much for sharing. Great painting and weathering too, the post-shading worked very nicely. Also the wash you used was very interesrting, being so simple (and cheap) to create and offering results that are indistinguishable from more expensive products. I guess one huge advantage of watercolors is that they can be re-activated with even a little moisture and they can be wiped off as much as you like (contrary to all acrylic washes and their infamous tidemarks - unless you use artists' gouache acrylics, which also re-activate, to make a custom home brew...). So great idea! Please do more of these longer videos, they are much better for reference, instruction and inspiration. The A-8/R2 version had the outer wing 20 mm MG-151 cannons replaced by 30 mm MK 108 cannons for a harder punch against the bombers. The Mk-108 was a short barrelled cannon, and its barell did not protrude much through the wing's leading edge, but required that "bump" on the wing upper surface, to fit inside the wing. In some of these later Sturmböcke versions of the FW-190, as you correctly guessed, the cowling machine guns firing through the propeller were removed both to save weight, and because they were relatively ineffective against the heavy allied bombers. So the Luftwaffe preferred to save the weight of the machine guns and their ammo and add the much heavier Mk-108 30mm cannons on the outer wings and in some cases also add underwing rocket pods. And yes the little fan at the front, obstructing a lot of the the view of the engine, is the BMW 801 cooling fan 🙂
I really like seeing your process and seeing the details work. It's a great instruction and inspiration. I refer to your videos and a few others for helping me with details on my models. I'm currently working on a tamiya F-14A and an Italeri S-3 Viking. I'm hanging them in a little diorama were the S-3 is refueling the F-14A.
@HammerheadModelMaking it's been a lot of fun. Lol, I have been working on those models since Christmas. I am also working on the Predator from Predator 2. I would definitely like to see what you would do on the Predator.
At 11:30, "There's a little fan unit, I can't tell you its purpose, maybe something to do with cooling". Ummmm... Yes! That's what fans a well known for doing. Great long-form video, subbed!
Brett. Thank you so much for showing your detail on the full build. I'm just now getting back into the hobby and this video was so helpful to this newbie. I hope you continue to do more full builds. Very informative and enjoyable to watch. 😊
Beautiful! Insta sub! This dio tells a perfect, simple story and it's construction and the description of it, was expertly done! This guy KNOWS what he's talking about! I just recently retired and am looking forward to resuming the greatest hobby in the World, now that I have more time, and I'm really glad I found channels like this for inspiration! I'll be looking for MORE videos by Hammerhead Model Making!!!
Thats quite the glowing review, thank you very much, your kind words are greatly appreciated!! I'm glad you have more time for the hobby and I'm glad you found the channel, cheers! -Brett
This video format is awesome, perfection, ditactic, really thank you. I'm going to respond to your request for a comment or remark, I'd really like to have in the description the list of components, tools and the top, links on amazon, ebay... for the most emblematic components you've used in this video. I'm quibbling, but it would be a real bonus to what is already a very fine piece of work. You've got one more subscriber.
The interrior grey was RLM 66 -Vallejo 71055 -AMig 0280 For the chrome i would highly recommend Super Chrome from AK Interactive it is the same stuff as Molotov just bottled. Really nice build, and i think you got the "shine" of the plane spot on.
Really appreciate the walk thru on the focke wulf build and the length of time didnt seem to matter with the abundant tips and info you gave us to apply in our model builds or in doing this model
Fantastic to watch. You did a great job, including the full build and base with figures. Very informative for an amateur modeller still learning , great insight into a lot of different techniques. Thanks
So if this was an experimental video something they haven’t tried before I enjoyed it. I’ve seen a few other of your videos and they are very instructional. I enjoy that like I said before I think this worked out very good for you and those of us who watch it. Looking forward to the next one.
Throughly enjoyed this from start to finish, and the end result was amazing. The whole diorama was brilliant and the finish on the FW-190 was stunning. Thanks for sharing your work and more videos like this please. Jason 🇬🇧
Very late to this one and although I have a passing interest in the subject, the length of the video and description of it being in depth and detailed is what made me click onto this - I really do enjoy these longer format videos. I'm less than 10 mins in and I'm already looking who's selling this kit so I can build along. Thanks 👍
Dance or some of your questions, number one the fan is to help with cooling of the radial, because it made the front opening smaller than it would normally be to have better dynamic. Vallejo makes a German aircraft box set of paint. I’ll have to look home to see if it has the interior color in it, but there are multiple different interior colors, depending on when and where is a plane was built. The original purpose of the FW 190 was to supplement the BF 109. They ended up making one of the best fighters in the war as a supplement. The British gave it the nickname the butcher bird. On some models, the upper gun ended up getting towed over because they removed due to weight. Small caliber of those particular weapons those weapons, being 7.92 caliber were less effective against heavier target. The wing gun were primarily 20 mm Canon. I loved the long format video, and I loved you showing all of your techniques that I want to emulate some of my models.
The A-7 and A-8 carried the MG13113mm in the cowl. The A-6 and earlier carried the MG17 7.92mm in the cowl. But yes, the removal of the cowl machine guns were for weight saving and probably unnecessary given the 20mm and 30mm wing mounted cannons.
Hey Brett, Yep I really like the longer format. I may disagree with you about small PE parts as I lost a couple of bits for the instrument panel of the P-39,but also i need to re-plan my entire modelling set up to make it not so vulnerable to having pieces ping all over the place. A really nice result overall and I'm taking away a couple more techniques.👍👍
Watched to the end… more insight on how to build. My only experience with building was when I was a youth using ill fitting Revell kits, testor glue, paints and brushes. Very frustrating… Your build is inspiring. Love the description as you go.
The best fw-190A in the scale but still with a slightly fluegwerke non-tapering cowling... The forward ring moved back and forth as the oil ran through it: The gap could be small or big depending on engine temperature. The better Hasegawa cowling will fit, but it is a lot of work. Good work!
Absolutely amazing diorama dude. Been watching your content for a while and I personally enjoy the much longer format. Rather than play music you narrated the entire thing which is a massive bonus. I love the subject matter, this plane is a thing of beauty and you really brought it to life. Thanks for sharing man, I’m a happy subscriber
42:00 100% agree the one thing that greatly increased my odds of removing the decal film was to let it sit for 24 hours and fully adhere/dry out. I also like to use a soft toothpick to push up the corner of the decals the round edges do not scratch the paint underneath.
Hi Brett, yes please, the more you show the better I like it. I can't say I'm re-learning modelling skills because forty odd years ago when I was last regularly making models, the only techniques I knew were shake the paint well and try and find a smaller brush. Anyway, that is one lovely looking "Butcher Bird" (if such things can be called lovely but I hope you get my drift). Really, really nice, lots of Oohs and Aahs, and many thanks for sharing it with us. I had been wondering why heavily diluted acrylics weren't being used as washes, turns out they are, with the added magic ingredient of a surface tension killer. Do you happen to know whether soap or detergent makes a difference? Looking forward to your next "Masterclass", my regards....
Thank you so much for the kind words, regarding this watercolor wash, Dish soap vs dish detergent, I haven't tried detergent, so I'm not sure if it would have the same effect as the dish soap.
There is a small rectangular door on the left side below he cockpit entrance. When you look at aircraft these are indents so the pilot can push his foot in to climb into the cockpit. It should be weathered appropriately as his boots rest on this spring loaded panel as they climb in, Some scratches might be appropriate. The panel pops back out once the foot is removed. Many aircraft use these. In WW1 there were semi circular cut outs in the metal or fabric to put their feet into.Hey, Great work!
Thankyou for the step by step, I've got this kit in my stash and its good to see it go together. I'm glad its a pleasing kit tbh, and cool to see what can be done with it
@@HammerheadModelMaking dude, your washing kungfu is powerful in its water basedness, but my enamel kungfu is superior in its results. find a paint range that works for you with a simple white spirit base, I use humbrol with success (your mileage may vary but) once you get into diluting actual enamel pigments flesh can become relatively simple... and all the dirt in the world is at your brush tip... good hunting
New subscriber here. Brett, love the subject matter, craftsmanship, and detailed commentary in this video!! Great stuff and beautiful work!! Love the diarama. Fantastic paint work!Grass looks very realistic, too!
I definitely prefer the long versions of your videos. They are fun to watch. Congratulations on the beautiful Fw 190. I don't know much about Luftwaffe planes, but a friend once told me that when the limousine was moved aside, the antenna wire fell freely onto the fuselage - it was not flexible.
absolutely gorgeous, i love it. only the radio antenna seems off, with the canopy open / back, the antenna wire would have some slack to it. great build nonetheless!
Due to the structure of the video it's easy to watch, your voice is also easy to listen to which helps. It looks like you might need to play around with the white balance as it looks a bit weird at times.
Enjoyed the extended format and watched with great interest from start to finish. A suggestion for the base - slight variation with the airbrush shade to show tracks for both car and aircraft to arrive at their positions where the grass has been weight flattened.
Love the builds Brett. I built the older Fw190 by Eduard which had the full engine, gun bays and that was a very involved kit! In regards to you using the clear UV resin you can also use BSI super gold + and it's said that that super glue doesn't fog or craze the plastic.
Absolutely love the longer length build video. I have only recently subscribed to your channel and love the work you do and your techniques involved in the whole build process. Look forward to your next project with eager anticipation.
Brilliant build dude! Love it! 190 is one of my faves. When it comes to Luftwaffe RML colours is un like most nations there is not much in the way if documentation to know the exact colours. I find anyone calming what should be the right RML colour normally has no idea what there on about plus, and this is something they dont take in consideration that is documented is that depending on factory paint stocks are will depend on what it comes out like. They were told what the colours should be an what ratios ‘should be’ wont mean they will come out like that so there is nor real right or wrong colour also you can calm ‘its been out side along time!’ The undercarriage bays some times will be the same colour as the under side and some are a odd grey brown. Your right in the nose guns they were deleted on some to reduce the wight if these already heavy aircraft. I love eduard kits but i dont like there decals! But i have found using white spirits on a cotton bud works really well, so you can still put it on the conventional way and so you can do decals as normal then use the spirits on a bud and it will come way easy!
Great video Hammerhead! Absolutely outstanding performances and skills used in those video. I’m blown away by the cockpit and the small photoetch items you had to put together. Again, great video! I have this saved to my account. I’ll be referencing this video when I do my own FW190 A8 and any aircraft for that matter! 😃
I’ve only built one Eduard kit, but I love ‘em! I set my decals in place using Micro-Set, but did wait 24 hours minimum. Then used a brush with Mineral Spirits to remove the carrier film. Personally, I think doing separate video “chapters” will retain viewers. I did it tonight, but it’s hard to watch an hour + video in one sitting. I think 15-25 minutes is preferable. Just my two cents. Turned out great! Peace and love.
Loved watching this sir! I just received my Airfix F-86F in 1:48th scale and started while watching. Love how the diorama looks too. Thanks for giving us a definitive way to get Eduard decals to look good also :D

Well done brilliant job
Awesome, thank you for the feedback!
@TheFatcat502 I agree that seeing his process is very helpful and inspirational.
Wish more people would do “full build”
Really helpful for beginners! Thank you 👍🏻😃
Glad it was helpful!
This is exactly what I want. Longer videos with more of the process shown.
Awesome, thanks for the feedback!
I am just getting back into modeling again after being gone for over 40 years. I have been watching your videos and I have learned a lot, but I liked this version better. Thanks it was amazing

I’ve already put a comment, but got to say having watched your build again, it’s fabulous and one of the best builds on YT

There are A LOT of model video with music & no narrative of the “nuts & bolts” of the build. I really appreciate how all of us work thru issues.
Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it, glad you enjoy my ramblings!
Excellent build and a great subject! I like the long format, so much to see and learn about, and experiment with! Thanks for a really great video!

I loved the long format video, and I loved you showing all of your techniques that I want to emulate some of my models.
Thanks for all the additional info! I appreciate learning more about the aircraft!
Thank you for watching!!
Watched to the end… more insight on how to build. My only experience with building was when I was a youth using ill fitting Revell kits, testor glue, paints and brushes. Very frustrating… Your build is inspiring. Love the description as you go.
Thank you!!!
Exceptional paint job, the shading and modulation is spectacular!!
The best fw-190A in the scale but still with a slightly fluegwerke non-tapering cowling... The forward ring moved back and forth as the oil ran through it: The gap could be small or big depending on engine temperature. The better Hasegawa cowling will fit, but it is a lot of work. Good work!
Interesting, thanks for the additional info on the cowling!
Absolutly gorgous build. I love the long format although i spend more time watching YT builds than actaully finishing my own projects.
Thank you for the feedback!!
正に、センスと職人技の極致ですね!😊
Thank you so much!
Awesome, thank you, appreciate the sub!!
42:00 100% agree the one thing that greatly increased my odds of removing the decal film was to let it sit for 24 hours and fully adhere/dry out. I also like to use a soft toothpick to push up the corner of the decals the round edges do not scratch the paint underneath.
Thats smart to use the toothpick!
Beautiful build!!! 🔥
Glad you like it!
What a fantastic vid! Thank you! I'm thinking of moving over to dioramas and this was SOOO helpful! Really really impressive.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for viewing!
Thank you for the full build video! It helps a lot.
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
Nice to see a real pro! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
The long format works great. If you feel the need to FF you can easily do so.
Thanks for the feedback!
57:08 That's an antenna for the FuG 16 (Funk Gerät 16, meaning Radio Equipment 16) and it's called a Morane-antenna.
Beautiful build!
Awesome, thanks for the info!!
Nice detail, I'll be sure to pay better attention to that detail in the future!
Thankyou for the step by step, I've got this kit in my stash and its good to see it go together. I'm glad its a pleasing kit tbh, and cool to see what can be done with it
Glad it was helpful!
@@TheEdmond30 Lol, thanks, I'll be sure to give it a try!
The "thing" under the wing is a "Morane" antenna for the FuG 16 radio, usually carried by the formation leader to talk to Ground Control/ATC
Thanks for the info!
New subscriber here. Brett, love the subject matter, craftsmanship, and detailed commentary in this video!! Great stuff and beautiful work!! Love the diarama. Fantastic paint work!Grass looks very realistic, too!
Welcome aboard!
Yeah, I didn't really research the antenna wire so its entirely possible you are correct.
Wow amazing detail on the engine and cockpit and the rest ❤ awesome stuff truly ❤
Thanks a lot!
absolutely gorgeous, i love it. only the radio antenna seems off, with the canopy open / back, the antenna wire would have some slack to it. great build nonetheless!
Yeah, there may be some slack in the antenna when the cockpit is open, I didn't really research that all that much to be honest!
loventhis format!!
Good to know!
I like the inconsequential material! Even if the show is longer.
Thanks for the feedback!
Great build! I do like this longer video format with detailed information.
Awesome, thank you for the feedback!!
Due to the structure of the video it's easy to watch, your voice is also easy to listen to which helps. It looks like you might need to play around with the white balance as it looks a bit weird at times.
Thank you! Yeah, I'm trying to figure out the white balance issue, thanks for the feedback!
Enjoyed the extended format and watched with great interest from start to finish. A suggestion for the base - slight variation with the airbrush shade to show tracks for both car and aircraft to arrive at their positions where the grass has been weight flattened.
Thats smart, I didn't think of that! Thanks for the tip!
Love the builds Brett. I built the older Fw190 by Eduard which had the full engine, gun bays and that was a very involved kit! In regards to you using the clear UV resin you can also use BSI super gold + and it's said that that super glue doesn't fog or craze the plastic.
Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out!
Absolutely love the longer length build video. I have only recently subscribed to your channel and love the work you do and your techniques involved in the whole build process. Look forward to your next project with eager anticipation.
Awesome, thank you! And thank you for the sub, its greatly appreciated!!
And I learned a lot about weathering!
Awesome, thanks for watching.
Thank you for watching and thanks for the insight on German colors and the decals, much apprecaited!
I like the longer format Brett, keep them coming!
Thanks for the feedback!
Fantastic job wit the FW, im building the 1/32 version by Revell and that thing comes with full engine. Amazing video !!
Thank you and good luck with your 1/32 build!!
The piece you placed on the underside is a radio antenna used to find and direct the aircraft by ground crew
Excellent, thank you for the info!
@@HammerheadModelMaking Google FuG16ZY if you’re interested. Incredible modelling by the way
Great video Hammerhead! Absolutely outstanding performances and skills used in those video. I’m blown away by the cockpit and the small photoetch items you had to put together. Again, great video! I have this saved to my account. I’ll be referencing this video when I do my own FW190 A8 and any aircraft for that matter!
😃
Thank you for the kind words! I wish you luck when you start your 190!
Glad you have your system for the Eduard Decals! And thanks for the feedback!
That ''little piece'' you applied to the underside is a static wick I believe. Very nice build , thanks for sharing it👍
Thanks for the info!
done the staff car in civilian colours , two tone black and maroon , came out quite good .
Nice! That sounds cool!
Landing gear bays would be RLM02. Same with the inside of the engine compartment.
Loved watching this sir! I just received my Airfix F-86F in 1:48th scale and started while watching. Love how the diorama looks too. Thanks for giving us a definitive way to get Eduard decals to look good also :D
Oh nice!! I've been meaning to add that airfix kit to my stash. Best of luck on it!
Fantastic build I normally stay away from Eduard kits because of decals but I like your solution 😊
Yeah, I totally get that, thats why I was determined to figure them out!
