I am not doing them just now as life changes when my wife died after caregiving her, but it is wonderful to watch you work as i did, whatever needed to accomplish the miniatures. I was so fascinated by it that I almost forgot to like the video. It's an absolutely stunning work of art. About the only things that didn't quite convince me were Ganesha and the candles. Looks great. Quick tip for painting foam if you're using rattle can spray paint, if you hold the can a minimum of 8 inches from the foam, you shouldn't get any foam melting. Course, a lot of this depends on the quality of the paint, cheaper ones tend to melt the foam at further distances. From what I understand, the main reason the foam melts is from the accelerant used in the can to get the paint to spray out. By moving the can further away from the foam, that accelerant will usually dissipate before it eats the foam. Course, because you're spraying from further away, building up a layer or layers of paint takes longer as some of the paint won't make it to the foam, and if you're painting outside, you'll have to deal with any wind that is happening.
I love it. Quick tip.. and proceeds with a short essay. Really helpful though. Usually I use my air brush to prime foam so I solves that problem completely. But I was waiting for a box of primer to arrive so grabbed a rattle can due to impatience. Appreciate the tip though. I love getting down to the chemical level
You've come a long way from your previous build (already equally stunning). I totally agree with the points about having foresight and learning with experience. Oftentimes only with building can you realise the real challenges and improvements that can be incorporated into future builds. I also like that all the intricate details can be sourced from everyday items or moulds, and not 3D printing. It speaks a lot about how much we can achieve without 3D printing as long as we are creative and resourceful enough. I wonder though, how long can the model stand before the organic parts start to decompose/disintegrate? Or is that not an issue?

I am building a large scale diorama of one of the Devil's Island prison buildings after it was closed and the jungle began to reclaim it like in the movie- " Papillion" when they roll the credits at the end of the movie. I made the structure out of 1/2" thick plywood and plan to plaster the walls with stucco base and found some corrugated aluminum sheet that looks like the scaled version of the tin roofing on the building. I also have tempered wire that replicates the prison bars. I also have several live bonsai trees that look similar to the jungle trees in the movie also live vines to plant in the center of the structure.
loved it man its a masterpiece like all ur dioramas keep it up posting vids i enjoy every sec of em so instructing and entertaining and so relaxing at the same time
Cool video. Really interesting. You now, last year I had in mind this idea about creating a diorama. Sci-fi based, about Alien universe. The idea was that of a crash landed Conestoga-class starship on a jungle planet. So as first step I've tried to make a model of the ship, but I'm new of these things and I didn't know a lot of stuff. For example I didn't know how to paint it, also, I figured it out that I made it wrong. I should learn more and then try again. So, thanks for your videos. I really appreciate. 👍 Greetings from Italy.
Sounds like an amazing idea. Sometimes the idea itself is pretty big, so like you have realised you need to break it into smaller steps. Get the building right. Do some research about how you would like to paint it. I have a video - in fact my first ever video on the channel which deals with a really simple but effective paint job for a crashed spaceship. Maybe that will help a bit. And always happy to help if you have questions. Good luck 👍
@@creativecuts7803 yeap, you're absolutely right. That's why I'm watching videos like yours. In order to gater some info on how to make it. Eventually. I'm yet not fully convinced to want to make a full diorama. Probably its better if I dont do that. But meanwhile... I can still watch and learn. Thanks for support. And well done. 😉👍
@Daniele Fabbro dude, the main thing is you have the imagination to see the big ideas. Accept that you have lots to learn but don't let it become an obstacle. Allow your self to make mistakes - you will learn so much from each one. Good luck my friend and thanks for watching
This and the previous version look amazing! Do you have to do anything to treat the natural branches to preserve them / keep from rotting or does the primer/paint take care of that?
Yes your intuition is correct, the primer and paint pretty mich take care of slowing the decomposition. If you are really concerned, a good layer of varnish will also help your cause. Thanks for watching 👍👍
Hi Rodney, cheers for the kind comment, the foam is called XPS foam - it is a dense foam often used for modelling but you can similar stuff in large amounts from building suppliers sold as roofing insulation. I get mine in the UK from a company called BluefoamUK. Not the cheapest but great from carving details.
This is an AWESOME jungle build! I am making my first diorama ever, so I am not familiar with all of the different materials, and it is an Amazon Rainforest theme. I have been wondering how to make a realistic ground texture. This looks like the perfect ground for my diorama as well. The Diorama Presepe plants look perfect as well for my jungle theme. Two questions though, what are the colors you used in making this ground texture, and is liquitex modeling paste (acrylic based) the same as your structure gel? I have seen a different channel and that is what the guy uses to create all of his ground texture, however, with this modeling paste he does not add any PVA....maybe that is the difference? Thanks for this awesome video of an awesome diorama!
Hey man, thanks for reaching out and I'm glad you liked my build and even provided you with some inspiration. Diorama precepe are great and sell a multitude of amazing products - albeit for a premium price. For the ground texture I have found that there are many ways to achieve similar effects. The modelling paste or structure gel (different names for simliar products) are basically to provide some mass and the addition of some pva is just to help bind everything together. You can mix, sand, soil, broken leaves and sticks or whatever takes your fancy depending on the type of texture you are after. Add some acrylic paint to colour your mix. You could make separate mixes of different colours and then apply these to give even more colour variation. I found that particularly with a jungle theme that once all the plant life is added very little of the actual ground texture is visible. Check out my star wars build for more ground texture ideas as I make a really nice forest ground texture in that video. The key is layers!!! I hope that helps a little and please feel free to ask me any more questions if you have some. I will always try to help where possible ✌️👍🖖
@@creativecuts7803 First of all, thank you sooooo much for taking the time to answer my question! The answer is invaluable to me! Yes, I plan on covering most of the ground with a thick vegetation, so that makes total sense. However, there will be some small paths that do not have any vegetation and that is where I will be showing more ground. I looked at diorama presepe right after I saw this video, and I have to say, a premium price for their jungle vegetation will be well worth the money! Again, thanks for the info, and I will definitely check out your star wars build. Layers.....YES layers!!!👍
Cheers Lee. I buy my foam online from a company called Blue Foam UK. I'm based in the UK so delivery is cheap. You can also use loft insulation board but in thinner profiles I just find to order a box of 1" foam is easiest for me.
Welcome. Glad to have you hear. We have a great community here so if you get stuck with anything, there is usually someone on hand to offer advice etc. Thanks for watching 👍
Hey, generally I find just pva is enough. But I do keep a pot of structure gel handy if more structure is needed. Also I have different types and qualities of pva. Some really runny cheap stuff and some thicker wood glue like gorilla glue. Hope that helps a little
Sure thing. I buy a box of appropriately a4 xps foam from a company called Bluefoamuk. I think they even sell through Amazon. They have a range of thicknesses and delivery is pretty fast too. Hope that helps a little

I made the structure out of 1/2" thick plywood and plan to plaster the walls with stucco base and found some corrugated aluminum sheet that looks like the scaled version of the tin roofing on the building. I also have tempered wire that replicates the prison bars. I also have several live bonsai trees that look similar to the jungle trees in the movie also live vines to plant in the center of the structure.
amazing work love it the details are brilliant, really want to try out diorama tresepe, their products look amazing
Thank you so much. I cant recommend diorama precepe enough. Really great products. 👍

Greetings from Italy.
Good luck my friend and thanks for watching
just found your channel, keep up the good work. Happy new Year.
Welcome 🙏 lots more coming and Happy New Year to you too
This and the previous version look amazing!
Great vid
👍👍👍
Looks awesome
Thanks, appreciate you watching 👍
I love the ruins
Thank you
All this needs is a giant ball trap. :D
Haha indeed. It could be the setting for many adventure. Glad you liked it and thanks for watching 👍👍

Badass.
Thank you sir!! 👍
This looks very detailed and great! What kind of foam did you use to draw on for the walls and such?
Hi Rodney, cheers for the kind comment, the foam is called XPS foam - it is a dense foam often used for modelling but you can similar stuff in large amounts from building suppliers sold as roofing insulation. I get mine in the UK from a company called BluefoamUK. Not the cheapest but great from carving details.
Looks great, but I also have a question. Will those dried roots and the natural green deteriorate over time?
Why didn't you turn the internal light on for the final viewing?
Just to watch it brings soooo much peace and inspiration at the same time. Could watch you forever! Regards from Berlin!
Thank you. Really appreciate your kind words. 🙏
Love this, where did you get that grey foam proper 10/10 diorama that
Cheers mate, I get it from a company called Bluefoamuk by the box. Quality stuff. Thanks for watching

Great, but: "Skulls are always good to have." Which kind of hobby we are in? ;)
Right? Only in this hobby does that make sense haha thanks for watching
Really enjoyed this. Where do you buy your xps foam from.
Cheers Lee. I buy my foam online from a company called Blue Foam UK. I'm based in the UK so delivery is cheap. You can also use loft insulation board but in thinner profiles I just find to order a box of 1" foam is easiest for me.

@@creativecuts7803 Welcome keep up the good work, I would be tempted to try and to a larger scale one to fit 1/12 figures.
Hi, do you have to add structure gel or pva is enough?
Hey, generally I find just pva is enough. But I do keep a pot of structure gel handy if more structure is needed. Also I have different types and qualities of pva. Some really runny cheap stuff and some thicker wood glue like gorilla glue. Hope that helps a little

Carving foam makes toxic fumes that can cause permanent damage, please use a respirator :( awesome work tho!
:D
styrène fumes are really dangerous, you better not breathe it at all….
Good ventilation is more than recommended
Indeed. I work in a shed where I can open the door and I still use a good respirator. Safety first
Hi pal, as you're based in the UK, do you mind me asking where you get your xps foam from?
Sure thing. I buy a box of appropriately a4 xps foam from a company called Bluefoamuk. I think they even sell through Amazon. They have a range of thicknesses and delivery is pretty fast too. Hope that helps a little
