    From a former chef and a current hobbyist, you deserve a hobby michelin star, especially with that knife chopping action, the sautee action of the frying pan, the cleanliness of the kitchen and the organisation of your tubs, the end result is amazing with all those ingredients
    seriously though, this is a really good tutorial and I'm only sorry i didn't find it sooner, but i'm trying to figure out some swamp style mini bases and found this invaluable, thank you

You voice is so calm and serene it would almost put one asleep if they weren't so interested in what the out come was going to be. Those ivy leaves really make this look fantastic so much happening make it look so realistic. LoL on the 4,736 leaves made I really like the idea of the coffee filter idea such a great idea.

    • @Paepercuts
      @Paepercuts  4 года назад

      Goed om te horen! Ik zou dilletoppen nemen die worden mooi geel/oker-achtig. Voor groene kan je goed bladpeterselie of basilicum nemen. Je kan het beste geen sterk geurende nemen als rozemarijn en thijm, dit gaat er moeilijk uit en dan ruikt je diorama non-stop naar groentesoep ;-) Succes met je dio's!

    Why do you use the various types of sand, tile glue etc. with great care if you then cover everything with the mixture of sawdust, soil and liquitex?
    Wouldn't it be enough to spread the dough on a pvc glue base?

    • @Paepercuts
      @Paepercuts  4 года назад

      Technically you could do it without. I like to add more layers to make sure i cover everything, aswell as the mixture having a good grip on a rough surface like the sand will provide. Cheers.

    Beautiful work, thanks so much for making this video! Why did you choose an oil wash for this specifically on the wood as opposed to regular acrylic wash? I usually use oil wash for metallics or anything like panel lines where capillary action is important, but rarely organic things like trees, so I was just curious.

    • @Paepercuts
      @Paepercuts  6 лет назад

      Thank you! I find oils work really well on natural wood. The colours from oils are more earthy, whereas acrylic washes tend to be a bit harsh and vibrant. I often apply 2-3 tones and remove some from the raised area with a sponge just like with panel lining ( outlines the cracks and texture of the bark ). The white spirit is slow drying and flows more even than acrylic medium and water will, downside is that they will leave a slight gloss that has to be varnished after, but i'd do that anyway. Cheers!

    Hello papercuts my fellow neighbor. I discovered yoir channel a few days ago. And my oh my im stunned. The stuff you make is nothing but spectacular. The attention to detail is out of this worlds. I hope i can achieve such nice dioramas one day. And for that i have a question. Can you reccomend an airbrush set for me? I planning on getting one to help me produce better dioramas and miniatures. Realy would appreciate if you could reply. Hearthly greetings from germany.

    • @Paepercuts
      @Paepercuts  7 лет назад +1

      Hello my friend thank you i'm glad you like my work. The airbrush setup i use and highly recommend is:
      - Harder & Steenbeck Infinity CR Plus: www.airbrush-services-almere.nl/shopasa/contents/en-uk/d144.html#p2053
      Excellent airbrush, especially if you plan on doing close up work on miniatures. You can get a 0,15 needle / nozzle for your mini's, and a 0,2 or 0,4 for larger work such as terrain and priming ( you always need a matching nozzle size for each needle size ) It's also German made so you'll have good access to spare parts and accessories which is handy.
      - Hansa HTC 20A Compressor: www.airbrush-services-almere.nl/shopasa/contents/en-uk/d41.html#p534
      This one is a joy to work with, good capacity and it's so silent i thought it was broke when i got it ;-)
      - Also get a woven linen air hose with easy click mechanism (steeknippel) trust me, you don't want to use a plastic hose.
      No. 7 on this page: www.airbrush-services-almere.nl/shopasa/contents/en-uk/d34_01.html
      I've linked you from a very good airbrush store in The Netherlands to give you an idea. It's an investment, but i find with airbrushing quality is everything ( i started with the worst compressor in existence from China, when i put it on it started moving over the floor and was really loud haha ) Both the airbrush and the compressor come with 2 years warranty. I'd recommend buying a setup at a store that specializes in airbrushes, so you can ask them for advice and also go back if any problems arise.
      Hope that helped all the best!

    • @davidbarthel5664
      @davidbarthel5664 7 лет назад +1

      Paepercuts you couldnt be a nicer person if you tried :-) i never expected such a detailed response. Also im suprised how cheap airbrushes of a good quality are. I work in a (lackiererei is the german word) paint shop is that the correct word? So im used to see price at around 800-1000€ for a spray gun ^^ anyway thank you for the great advice and taking the time for a reply. I wish you all the best in the world. Sicerly david

    • @davidbarthel5664
      @davidbarthel5664 7 лет назад +1

      Before i forgett is it hard to get used to double action? I have not touched an airbrush since my apperenticeship. And that was 20 years ago

    • @Paepercuts
      @Paepercuts  7 лет назад +1

      It's really easy. All you need is a good responsive trigger on your airbrush, which the Infinity has. Some airbrush stores will let you try them out on a piece of paper so you can get a good feel for it. With your working experience i'm sure you'll pick it up in minutes. Good luck and have fun!

    What does the pigment wash do differently than say an oil or acrylic wash? Any recommendations for a substitute? :)

      Hi, pigment washes dry very matt, almost dusty looking. So when making dry earth or desert sand for example it'll give a more natural earthy/ sandy look. You can use cheap pastel chalks and grind them into powder, and dilute that with water to get a very similar effect. Good luck and have fun!

    Love your work man! Very inspiring. I made some of the matt medium solution..mine had quite a runny sediment at the bottom but yours looked a lot harder? Used exactly the same products in the recipe except I used bottled water? Not sure if that matters? Also, I am struggling to get kopi cones..they look very useful. Tried the exact Dutch product gardening website you seem to get a lot from. Can you point me in the right direction for these cones please? I'm in the UK... don't know if they do international shipping?..thanks for any help you can offer 👍

      Hi and thank you. If the solution is still runny that means it's not yet fully separated. I'd leave it untouched for at least a week, don't even lift it up to check that may cause it to mix again. As for the water that is o.k, i always recommend distilled water because in some countries tap water is not fully clean. For the Cones here is a link, it is in Belgium but i believe they will ship to the U.K.

      Good luck and have fun, cheers.

      @@Paepercuts thank you very much for the link..much appreciated. As for the matt medium solution it was left untouched for 10 days...will see how it works and maybe try again.

    What resin are you using for the water?

    • @Paepercuts
      @Paepercuts  7 лет назад

      I use 2 part epoxy resin. I use Wilsor's but there are many brands. I've used Envirotex Lite and Unreal Details Magic Water before they work good too.

    This is one of the most helpful tutorials for basing I have seen. It's very impressive!
    I dont know if its your style, but I feel like it could be a bit quicker. You explain what you are doing while showing footage of doing it and then linger on the shot for a while. This is helpful if the current step is tricky or not very clear, but if you are just doing something simple that added 5-10 seconds feels like I'm just waiting for you to get to the next bit. I appreciate that you are showing a more realistic idea of how long a process might take, but you could explain what you are doing, and then once you are done explaining maybe play the following footage sped up? 15:57 to 16:08 for example is just watching you gently poke away. We can see the important action pretty well and its simple so you could speed that footage up. When you add all the little pockets of time up from the video you could probably get 2 or 3 minutes of footage that could be sped up letting you improve flow and pacing without loosing the important detail.

      @Paepercuts  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks nice to hear! Well you could ask a florist/ bouquet maker or a garden centre they usually have dried flowers. You can find them on Ebay look for '' 1/24 or 1/35 scale model White Flowers '' or check the RealityInScale website they sell them aswell. It's a Dutch website but maybe they ship to Italy. Good luck!

      Easiest is to lightly airbrush them if you have one. I show how to do it in my California Desert Base video around minute 18. You can also hold them upside down and dip them in a diluted wash/ ink and dry them with a hairdryer after to speed it up.
      They are preserved when you buy them, but note that if you leave them white they will -slightly- yellow but mine only did so after 3-4 years and i still use them. Good luck and have fun with them!

      Bedankt! Ik bestelde ze bij Sceneryworkshop.nl maar weet niet of ze die nog verkopen, je zou ook evt. op PK-Pro.de kunnen kijken of Ebay. Greenstuffworld heeft ze ook maar met deze heb ik geen ervaring, succes!

    You have to be careful when heating/baking soil, don't you? I remember looking into it for my indoor plants and seeing some warnings about certain temps releasing fumes into the home. Gorgeous work! 😄♥

      Hi, i think they only sell it in the stores and not online. It's a bit tricky to find everything because their assortment changes with the seasons, but they usually have the branches from what i've seen. Good luck!

    Echt heel mooi werk verricht, krijg hier veel inspiratie van! Ben zelf wel erg benieuwd naar het gebruiken van een airbrush voor het verven van scenery. Doe het nu momenteel met een kwast maar ik heb dus de indruk dat dit makkelijker en preciezer gaat met een airbrush. Zou jij me wat meer kunnen vertellen over wat jou ervaringen hiervan zijn en welke airbrush eventueel goed zijn om te gebruiken/aanraden?

    • @Paepercuts
      @Paepercuts  7 лет назад

      Thanks! Met een airbrush kan je eenvoudig mooi overloopwerk maken en het kan je ook veel tijd besparen. Je moet voor jezelf nagaan wat je er mee wil doen, alleen scenery of ook kleine miniaturen. Belangrijker dan het type airbrush is een goede compressor met een tank en een vochtafscheiding. Wanneer je een (te) kleine compressor gebruikt zonder lucht tank raakt deze heel snel overhit en je hoort hem continu draaien, ik had er ooit een uit China die is bijna ontploft haha. Ik zou altijd een double action airbrush kiezen, hiermee heb je veel meer controle dan een single. De grootte van de naald bepaald hoe fijn je er mee kan spuiten, voor scenery kan je beter een grotere naald nemen (0,2 0,4 of 0,6) en voor fijn detail op miniaturen een kleinere (0,15 of 0,2). Mijn favoriete model is de Harder & Steenbeck Infinity CR Plus, deze kan het fijnste type naald gebruiken en heeft een hele goede trigger response. Ik heb ook een H&S Evolution hier ben ik mee begonnen, ook een hele goede allround airbrush zeker als je voornamelijk scenery wil doen. Als compressor gebruik ik de Hansa HTC 20A. Het is een investering maar deze bij modellen zit 2 jaar fabrieksgarantie, zeker als je nieuw bent met airbrushing zou ik adviseren jezelf te belonen met kwaliteit materiaal dit maakt echt een wereld van verschil. Het lijkt vaak aantrekkelijk om een goedkoop beginners setje te nemen maar dit levert vaak meer frustratie dan plezier op. Voor de aanschaf zou ik Airbrush Almere zeker aanraden, prima klantenservice/ advies en ruim assortiment. Hoop je hiermee een beetje in de goede richting gebracht te hebben veel succes!

      Bedankt voor je goed advies! Ik had al de indruk dat het nodig was een goede investering te maken. Liever materiaal van goede kwaliteit dan later spijt hebben tijdens een van mijn projecten. Ik ga er mee aan de slag en zal je kanaal in de gaten houden. Welke thema's heb je nog in gedachte die je in de toekomst wil gaan posten?
