Her performance brings out an aspect of the music which I had not noticed before: the Tempest is a swirling collection of miniature motifs. Grimaud brilliantly and delicately executes while exhibiting elemental power.
As a teenager more than half a century ago I received this jewel as a gift from Maria Grinberg. And here is another magician giving it back to me just as chrystal-clear and unspoiled.
Piano Maestro Hélène Grimaud is a Musical Princess! It seems to be she had played piano since 1 to 2 years old until today! She seems to be a perfect woman in appearance and in her musical profession as well! The whole world adore and admired her musical contributions! Many thanks to her musical performances and God Bless
And I also felt that I was hearing “The Tempest” for the first time. I was simply blown away!! In my humble opinion, Helene is one of the very best pianists in the world.
She is a person outside the normal world i saw a lot of interview of her she is..............on an other dimension....intellectually,physically,musically.......in everything......Over human.....
Amazing... the composition, the interpretation, and the execution. So beautiful. I think soloists like Grimaud are on the same plane with the original composers -- Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven. Musically, their gift is beyond normal human comprehension. But oh, is it a joy to listen to. I can't imagine what it would be like to compose or play like this.
A joyful and wonderful Piano sonata. H. G. presents delightful vibrant energetic sound, bravura, especially in the 3rd. movt.; rhythmical effect given that charming sparkle to the melody. HG performs a majestic rendition!
Perhaps one of the best Tempests I've ever heard. Always liked Hélene's playing and I'm baffled by the number of persons (even professional musicians) that dislike her. Is she to pretty to play the piano and be successful? Or Because she likes wolves? Can someone explain?
Who have you heard say they dislike her? And why wouldn't you listen to what they have to say in explanation rather than inferring politically incorrect motives for their views?
plenty have said it for whatever motive. to me, ive heard these pieces played wonderfully. now i hear her. the recording is better and she is superb. but so were they.
Eh, I like the music, but her rendition is too much about the individual performance rather than the piece at large and the 3rd movement illustrates this for me.
Matthew Chorney Just try Solomon (Cutner), Wilhelm Backhaus or Friedrich Gulda. I prefer those three pianists for Beethoven's sonatas. But Artur Schnabel is also excellent at Beethoven (even though I dislike his many mistakes). I don't like Wilhelm Kempff at all with Beethoven's sonatas. Artur Rubinstein and Krystian Zimerman also performed excellent Beethoven sonatas! :D
Her performance brings out an aspect of the music which I had not noticed before: the Tempest is a swirling collection of miniature motifs. Grimaud brilliantly and delicately executes while exhibiting elemental power.
I often return to this piece as comfort food. Just perfect on every level.
I totally ❤ Hélène Grimaud’s masterful performances!
Chiaro di luna
As a teenager more than half a century ago I received this jewel as a gift from Maria Grinberg. And here is another magician giving it back to me just as chrystal-clear and unspoiled.
Helene's silky touch and powerful and emotional message! Wonderful performance.
She creates her own rhythm along with the actual rhythm 😅 this is by far the most beautiful interpretation of this piece i have ever heard!
J'aime l'écouter. J'aime encore plus la voir jouer. L'une des meilleures pianistes au monde!
Sinon la meilleure ...
I am so thankful to the universe for making it possible for this interpretation to reach my ears!
I have never heard so much passion in this piece! I loved it!
I saw her perform Ravel in Singapore, and she was fantastic. I love her take on Beethoven, too.
This is by far the best I’ve heard of this sonata WOW so beautiful!! Nailed it
So extraordinary that I had the feeling that I was hearing "The tempest" for the first time... Amazing!!
Paulo magalhães
I came here to say just that!
Mind boggling!
The best interpretation by a long stretch!
And I also felt that I was hearing “The Tempest” for the first time. I was simply blown away!! In my humble opinion, Helene is one of the very best pianists in the world.
Respect!
Love this sonata ! Brilliant composition ! Brilliant execution ! Thanks to both with deep gratitude and love , I bow low !
Wonderful performance by Helene Grimaud. Thank you! I just wish we could see her hands to make it even more perfect.
Her hands and her very expressive face!
A very sad but stoic sonata by Beethoven. Helene is interpreting it trancendental especially in the third movement. We shall overcome!
Calidez y calidad interpretativa. Gracias H. Grimaud!!!!!!
don't know that i ever heard a beethoven piano sonata that was less than amazing.
This interpretation of the Tempest III Movement is the best I ever heard.
Artista EXCELENTE , BELLEZA unica !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stupenda esecuzione! Incomparabile Beethoven nella sonata per pianoforte.
Her interpretation is very close to kempff.
Awesome performance, the best of this masterpiece indeed ! Thank you.

Helen is very beautiful and talanted pianist!)
Gorgeous performance, gorgeous performer. Just a splendid combination.
Una composición magistral y una interprete fascinante
Maravillosamente espléndida en su técnica.
absolutely fantastic interpretation!
"When you meet a great person, ask first where his suffering is." Leon Bloy, as quoted by Helene Grimaud in Wild Harmonies: A Life of Music and Wolves
For this masterpiece, I've listened to 70 to 80 versions performed by different pianists, and you are the best !!
I have listened to 71 to 81 different versions. She is definitely not the best.
@@geoffg3268 so which one IS the best ?
w o w ! .... thought gilels channeled beethoven perfectly but this is tempestuous!
I agree with her interpretation more than any other I've heard so far.
Aaron Hall have you heard Maria João Pires' version?
A stunning performance!
The most interesting and nice interpretation! Excellent!
Subscriu!
She is so beautiful!!!
+Anna Stepanov and plays amazing, of course...
+Anna Stepanov Yes, I agree! Not least, a gorgeous smile which could melt any man's heart! She is also one of the best pianists in the world!
+zeuszeus00 Totally agree. A very enigmatic look though... I must say.
+Daniel Urbina As if she's getting away with something :D
You are correct, but I don't know why I don't like this woman.
She is a person outside the normal world i saw a lot of interview of her she is..............on an other dimension....intellectually,physically,musically.......in everything......Over human.....
Magnifique! Absolument magnifique!
Che brava, che bello. Grazie Helene ❤
Exceptionnel ! Quelle musicalité
Magnifique interpretation❤
Very thoughtful and creative playing. Such tiny details as the one at 11:12 show her originality of thought.

Wunderschoene Interpretation!!! Herzlichen Dank, liebe Helene!!!
BRAVO HELENE!!! We Love You! Come soon to Guadalajara México!!!
Interpretación extraordinaria!!!
I am pretty sure this is how Beethoven meant this to be played 😃
No. This IS NOT how Beethoven meant this to be played. It's a allegretto, not a presto ! I can't even hear the drop of the rain. It's just "brutal".
Not since Jeno Jando. Beautiful.
Blue heart, from your blue eyes!!! Love them!
Hélène, Bravoooo!!!!
No words best in best literally 😍😍😍😍
Oh my god, so beatiful girl, so beatiful interpretation.
best version out there
21:08 clear and nice work
Toujours exceptionnelle...!

No tengo palabras !!!!
Meravigliosa, grazieeee
Third mov. is Allegretto not Allegro or Allegro con Brio, but even at that tempo she is great
Magnifica.
This third movement is probably the most impressive play i've heard of it. To me this is the best rendition of the tempest sonata, close to Barenboim.
Eh, I like the music, but her rendition is too much about the individual performance rather than the piece at large and the 3rd movement illustrates this for me.

Oh, you haven’t listened to Richter’s interpretations, then, neither the studio nor the live recordings.
nobody plays appassionata better than richter!
BRAVO HELENE
