Wow! I discover you in this days. I'm not working yet because I've been sick. My "hobby" is to sew, but my economy is not doing so well because my illness. So I decided to try selling my handcraft. I leave in Sweden, but I didn't know how to count prices or stuff. I usually buy fabric or zippers in second hand places. Thank you so much for your tips, It is very helpful for me. You are a wonderful teacher too!!
Every video that I watch, I am more amazed, thank you! My mom had 8, and had little time to teach me. All my life, I have made my clothes, and my girls clothes, while they were young, and never knew the ways you are showing. I learned to read patterns, but mostly stayed with simple ones. Now I make my own patterns, as I wear mostly jumpers, skirts. But I am grateful for all the extra tricks and hints, and sewing notions! love the bags that I have made, and will be trying the toilet paper holder and this bag, sewing is a pleasure with you!! God bless you.
Thanks so much for this tutorial Christine! My husband is a pro drummer and recently asked me to make some bags for his percussion instruments. He retired an old worn out carry-on suitcase which he used for carrying/moving some hardware and instruments. I harvested four zippers and pulls and the longest zip was 21". He needed a bag to protect/carry his gourd and sticks and this bag was absolutely perfect. I searched your site as I needed to know how to make a box bag with lots of volume for a 15" in length rigid instrument. I used vinyl from my stash and lined with fleece and quilters cotton (also made the handle and tabs with them). The bag size was perfect for the large gourd that he had no way of carrying and protecting. He loves his Valentine's Bag and left it in view of his recliner for a few days to admire. Since, he has requested bags for his tambourine, clickers and cowbell - I'll be busy! Big thank you for your great videos and excellent explanations.
Great tut. Especially like how you boxed the ends all “in one go”! Definitely going to that from now on. Four is quicker than eight! Lol. You’re terrific. Please let us know how they do in your shop. I’m making some for shoes inside suitcase.
You just do such a good job of teaching and showing us how to make things. You really do. You’re clear, direct and to the point, no rush at all (thank you!), all with a very kind way of doing it. I (we actually, my husband and I ) have had one of the worst years ever (retired a cross country move last summer, sickness, injury 😳😢🙄) and I’m feeling pretty beat up. But I have my sewing room set up now and I find listening to you above most others is most helpful as I relearn to sew. Anyway, you are amazing and I just want to thank you for being such a sweet and kind person to spend time with. I can’t wait to try making the utility bag. I have some denim I think would be good for that. Blessings to you! 🥰
Christine - you are just the BEST teacher for sewing and I’ve learnt so much from you. Your tutorials are so clear and I’m never left confused. The pace is perfect and I love your preambles and chats following the instruction. Thank you so very much - your sewing videos are the best on RUclips. Love from Somerset in the UK xx
Love your bag and especially love that there are no raw edges on the inside. I’m planning on making one out of wool I’ve dyed in the dirty pot and lining it as well. Thank you for your video!
I just love your sense of humour! Thanks for showing us that not everything goes to plan (camera falling). I am making this for hubby the moment my hand heals from trigger finger surgery.
It is beautiful! I used some John Deere cotton fabric, with stabilizer, to make a cute bag, large, too, thank you!!! I hope to carry gloves and such on the tractor. (So far, I haven't had a turn, new to us tractor, so my son in law has been fiddling with it, so, he might get the bag. And he does appreciate how well made the bags are of yours that I have made) thank you!!
They look like Ditty Bags. I had to carry one everyday while I was in Basic Training. Your bags are in pretty colors and print. These bags are handy for many things (like first aid kits, sewing kits, shaving kits, etc.).
Thank you so much Christine for sharing the making of your very detailed, professional items. I have a large family and round of friends that I love to sew gifts for. This will help me immensely. God bless you for sharing your talent to help everyone. I also love your beautiful, friendly smile. 🥰
What a clever way to do the lining. Wish I’d had that trick when I was in the handbag making business. Keep up the videos. Love every one of them. Made quite a few of your ideas.
Love this bag. I think it would make a great storage holder for in the car. Maybe for jumper cables, or snacks for a trip, or even fro your flip-flops after being at the Beach.
Thank you for sharing,I am not working, but through you tips I will start doing something to put food on my table for my children ,God bless you abundantly 🙌🙏
Those bags would be handy in so many ways. Shoes, travel crafting items, mini diaper bag, games, toys or movies for the kiddos in the car, storing one's hair dryers & curling irons, even to carry a couple wine bottles to the party.
I live in Canada. In the winter when going somewhere to be inside, a party for example, we carry our shoes to change into. This bag is ideal for carrying the shoes. In the more manly colours I am sure it is large enough for men's shoes. While wearing the shoes, the scarf, hat and gloves can be left in the bag so they don't get lost. Great tutorial, Christine!
Another fantastic tutorial Christine. I made one of these as a gift bag to hold a special bottle of brandy and a boxed brandy glass for a 65th birthday. Like you I use upholstery fabric a lot. It looks just great and so easy with your super instructions. The recipient will probably use the bag for his golf shoes😂 many thanks!!
Thanks Christine it's just what I need to put 2 Lawn Bowls in. I may alter the size but the style is perfect. I can carry them to my bowls game easily then.
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs i could, but it is only for 2 bowls packed tightly but i might make a pocket on the outside for a measure and chalk. When it’s made i will let you know who it is.
First time seeing your video. Loved it. Thank you for teaching me how easy it is to sew this type of travel/storage///etc…. Loved to learn how to price a product. WOW
Great bag Christine, I am certainly going to make some of these. You are so easy to understand with your down to earth tutorials. At the moment I am making a computer bag its so hard to understand the how to put it together but I'm finally getting there. I want to hurry up so I can start your Boxed Bag. Thanks again.
Another great idea! Like the size, not too big, but big enough. I think it will be a good seller. 😊 I think I'll give it a try. I have a grandson that is into sports, it will make a good "go bag" for his change of clothes.
Danke! Thanks for sharing. You did a great job. Until now I did not dare to do it. With your explanation I got it. It's fixed in my mind after watching it twice. It will be the next project when the missing materials arrive.
I absolutely love your videos, so glad I am subscribed. There is so many tips and ways to increase the time spent. Well done and thanks for sharing to make our lives easier as well
Just discovered this channel and I ❤ it! Very nice projects. Learning a lot. I am a clothing seamstress and tailor, so learning to make other things is fun.👍
Brilliant! Thank you for this tutorial! I love your idea of how to do the lining! After reading the comments there are so many great ideas on how to use the very versatile bag! You are such a treasure and I am thankful to have found your channel!
Wonderful product and a great job at sewing & instructional teaching Christine!!! ... So many uses, but perhaps if extra straps were added, it would work as and be named as a "Skinny Enlongated Backpack", which would be lighter, easier to manage & carry vs a standard Backpack ... It can also be named "Skinny Long Hiking/Biking Pack".
Loved your tutorial. Made this style before but your version is better and easier. Depending on the size you make it could be used for toiletries, crafts, tools, shoes, travel etc. I've been catching up on a long list of missed video's and now it's your turn. I hope to get through all of yours in the next few days - something to look forward to
I have made these type of boxy bags. I like your method for the boxed corners. I want to make one using PUL fabric for the lining since it is a water proof fabric. I would put my shampoo and conditioner inside for traveling. That way if it spills it will be easy cleaning. Thank you so much.
So I used zipper on a roll for the first time and you make it look so easy. I spent 20 minutes before I finally got the pull started and then it wasn't even on the ends. Good think I cut it a little long. Tell me it gets easier!!
You are so inspiring. My question is about the zipper tabs, is there a video where you show a close-up of how they are set in the finished bag, what are they for? I am making some cute little phone bags but do not like the way the zipper is sort of crunched at the end from the designer's online instructions. Sewing flat with maybe a zipper tab might be my remedy and I intend to incorporate your tab instructions into a bag today. The tabs certainly trim your bag nicely, as do your labels.
I'm not sure if I have a closeup Glory, but this video might make it a little clearer for you. I'll be in the studio this week, so will make it a focus on my next zippered bag video 😀
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but if I use upholstery fabric should I still use batting? Would it make it too thick? Thanks in advvance, I love all of your videos!!
Hi Barbara, when I use upholstery fabric, I rarely use batting, but for these bags I almost always use it. The bags are quite large, and look better with a bit of stabiliser😁
I love it!! My husband has a few different shavers and beard/hair trimmers that he only uses when he grows a beard but I am always finding bits and bobs to them everywhere in the bathroom. This bag will keep them all neat and tidy and easily locatable and I can hang it in the inside of the linen closet door! My nephew is a bowler and has huge feet so I can make one for him for his bowling shoes. My brother plays hockey so he could use one for his regular shoes so they dont smell like his hockey bag and he could also probably use one for the little things like extra laces, lace pullers, blade covers and gloves. I LOVE this one!! Any idea where I can find the webbing/strapping and zip and pulls in bulk in the USA?
MK, I just did a very quick Google search for "webbing strapping" in the USA. There are lots of companies that come up. Perhaps if you did those search terms and include your state, you'll find a place not too far away. I think I have a coupe of links to Amazon in the description that might help too. Strapworks, USA Ratchet, & USA Cargo Control are a few that have it 😀
Another great tutorial! Thank you! Are the bags made with upholstery fabric lined as well? If so, are you using quilting cotton to line the upholstery bags?
Hi Christine, if I wanted to make a smaller bag, should the difference between the width and the length of the fabric pieces always be 2 inches? I noticed that in the tutorial you mention 10 and 12 inches as well as your large 21 and 23 inches? Thanks
Not always Philippa. It depends on how much longer/shorter/wider you want your bags to be. If you like the height and depth, but you just want shorter, then you only need to reduce the length of fabric😁
Great tutorial, I would like to make this for a friend with his favorite football team fabric. What size needle are you using to make this? My machine can’t sew through with a size 14 unless I hand crank really slow. I made a boxy bag and there were skipped stitches away from the seams, with 4 layers sewing normally. I guess I will have to use a size 16US
Thanks RG. If using my domestic machine, I'd use the #14 needle, and go slow over the bulky parts. I find the old mechanical machines better than the newer electronic machines. They're a little timid when they get to the bulk. If your machine can take the 16, then I'd try that. On my industrial, I often use an 18 needle, but I'm guilty of using 12's if i'm too lazy to change it 😀
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs Thanks for your reply. My current machine is electronic mid level Janome. I do have a early 1970’s mechanical singer that should work better on bags. I haven’t used it for that though lol The boxy bag i made was on an entry level Singer. I will give the old machine a try on bags. But reviews for my Janome I have said it doesn’t like layers so I haven’t tried bags on it.
A lot of the machines don't like layers. Especially electronic ones. I ended up selling all but one of mine, and always pull out the old mechanicals when I need to my domestic machine. My trusty old Janome did the first 1000 shopping bags plus loads of other things. I just can't kill it😁

Hi Sylvia. The dress was one of my own creations a couple of years ago. I don't have a pattern for it😀
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs well it’s absolutely beautiful 😍
Strapworks, USA Ratchet, & USA Cargo Control are a few that have it 😀
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs thank you so much. I will look into them!!
Another great tutorial! Thank you! Are the bags made with upholstery fabric lined as well? If so, are you using quilting cotton to line the upholstery bags?
Thanks Laura. Yes, these one are lined, and I usually use quilting cotton for my linings. Occaionally I'll use light weight curtain fabric too😀
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs thank you for your quick reply ☺️
Just a tiny bit smaller would make a great wine tote
You're right Kati. I sell a lot of my expandable shoe bags as wine bottle gift bags. Here's the link ruclips.net/video/NNu3_Z3du-k/видео.html 😀
Christine, what style of dancing do you do? Any videos of you dancing?
Chris and I do Rock 'n' Roll dancing. We used to teach it. There are videos of us on our other channel www.youtube.com/@rockinnagambie 💃
Thank you
You're welcome Cynthia 😊
Hi Christine, if I wanted to make a smaller bag, should the difference between the width and the length of the fabric pieces always be 2 inches? I noticed that in the tutorial you mention 10 and 12 inches as well as your large 21 and 23 inches? Thanks
Not always Philippa. It depends on how much longer/shorter/wider you want your bags to be. If you like the height and depth, but you just want shorter, then you only need to reduce the length of fabric😁
Hmmm could we use this same process for the mini bags. They have so many steps.
You sure can Laurie😁
Is the lining also upholstery fabric?
No Linda, I use lighter weight fabric for my linings. Occasionally I'll get some lightweight furnishing fabric that I'll use though 😀
I just can't kill it😁
what if I use a regular zipper?
Yes, you can certainly use a regular zip 😀
