I watched your purple fabric video and I am pretty sure I watched a video with the corners sewn together. The more of these I watch, the more ideas we get. Thanks for the carefully planned videos.
Hi Tim. As a newbie to sewing I really appreciate how you explain things rather than just having music overdubbed with no explanation like so many of these videos do. I am learning a lot from you. Thanks
Glad it was helpful! I make my videos intentionally a little long and fully done, rather than cutting a bunch out. I am trying to make tutorials rather than quick videos for lots of views on TikTok. Not that there’s anything wrong with those, but it’s hard to learn from them.
I have been making similar bags with placemats, and for the corners, I mark the squares while the bag is flat, as you do in the video, and then with the tip of an iron I flatten and crease the fold, and then press the seam open just within the square. This makes it much easier (for me) to line up the crease with the sewn seam on the flattened seam allowance along the other side of the marked square. I stab stitch pins through the creased fold, lining the point up with the stitching and then put pins crosswise to hold. Another technique I have used is once the fold is flattened and creased with the iron, I lay a small strip of 1” masking tape exactly at the creases fold, and use that as a guide to Stan stitch the pins through to the sewn seam on the other side. The tape can be used multiple times, and is removed as soo as I have marched and pinned.
@@timothytotten9409 I really like the fabric. I have made a bunch of these types bags and looking forward to giving this one a whirl. Thanks again, be well..
When nylon zippers were first introduced, they were advertised as “self healing” because no matter where the coil came apart. Simply sliding the zipper over the opening would “heal” the zipper. This is handy when you forgot to move the zipper pull to open the zipper when sewing. Just pop open the zipper and pull it apart, then when turning is finished, slide the zipper pull over the open area to “heal” it.
I just made this! Thank you! This was not easy for a beginner such as myself; however i love the way it turned out. My only issue is that the handle stitches could still be seen after i turned everything inside out and you could see those temporary stitches. Otherwise a fun project! Mine looks nowhere near as nice as yours does but I will keep practicing!
That most likely what happened; I am trying to make this again with the knowledge I gained from the first try! Also what is the fabric lining you used again? And do you cut that piece in half before starting? ( black fabric)
The lining you mentioned the pieces are 9 x 14 sewed together with opening on bottom when you attach lining to the main fabric it looks like it is like the first version 18 x14 watching it they don't seem like the black is not sewed together with the opening later you show that it has the opening. could you if this is correct or is it lined up like the first version when applying zipper. will come back and attach my photos to show you and think i will also apply an interfacing to the nylon and on the other version i used bias tape for covering the seams. thanks for any input you can send my way
think i figured it out that you sewed just the bottom of the 9 inch side leaving the opening and making it 18 having the 14 inch side open to attach to the zipper side. please confirm if possible . love you videos tim
It needs to be two pieces with an opening left when you sew together. You may have caught my error because I originally did not use two pieces and had to go back and fix it. I just didn’t tell anyone that. So the lining definitely needs to be two pieces so you can turn the whole thing inside out later.
@@timothytotten9409 thanks tim so much i'm observant as you can see lol no problem i did view the one you watched also. i completed one from the other style with the binding for the ends. cut out another and will cut out the newer version and work on that one thank so much
Thanks, great video. And thank you so much for not cutting out the part where you accidently close the zip. Happens to all us too😂. Have you already tried a French seam on the inside? Worked great for me too. Like you I wanted to skip the bias tape part.
I complicate matters whenever possible. I’m thinking about how to add interior pockets or perhaps a length of 1” elastic to make additional holders for pillows bottles, etc. Obviously I’ll be making some of these. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for this excellent video. I'm having a hard time knowing when you cut and sewed the black lining. It was one full piece until around time stamp 12:40, then it was 2 pieces that had been sewn together. Am I missing something?
I am following along step by step as I am putting this together and also cannot find the part where the two lining pieces are sewn together. I am so confused and have a half finished project here!
I did not. It is from a company that sells bags with your initials on them. But anyone could possibly make something similar. I’d have to look it over to see if it’s something I can teach.
I watched your video, but I would think that would be easier to put the handle on before you zipped everything together? If you mark the centre of your fabric should be easy to put the handle on before you assemble or am I doing something wrong?
I used rivets for the inside corners instead of hand stitching - used a medium weight vinyl for the outside so was much easer than hand stitching - just an fyi/idea
It does. thank you. I might have had a brain freeze when I was looking at the video. I sewed it and it came out sooo beautiful :) Thank you.@@timothytotten9409

You make it look so easy.
That’s very kind! But this one really is pretty easy. I think most people should be able to take their time and make it work. I hope you try!

❤ great video . beautifully explained and filmed clearly.thankyou !
I really like this method too. I like the idea of the holders. Going to give it a try.
Have fun!
Pretty

Great tips!!
Please make your yt channel and share your ideas.😘
Thank you Tim. I am going to try this method for my young granddaughters' dance shoes. ❤
Sounds good! I always loved when my grandmothers made things for me. I still sleep on cold nights under a quilt one of them made for me years ago.
Love it. Perfect! Thanks.
Excellent how-to! Great visual and verbal instructions. I hope to get to my sewing room today to make one- I’ll post if I do! Thank you!
Awesome! Have fun!!
Tim, I really like this kit. You explain things so well!!!
Thanks! This one was so much easier. Lol
Another great video my friend. Thanks for sharing, be well. Love the bag..
Brad really loves the fabric and is using it on a work trip right now!

I love your video. I'm excited to see what you do next
Love the creativity!
Tim, do you have measurements for the next larger version of this bag? I love it, by the way. Thanks for a another great video.
I would also love to know how to make different sizes I would like a large one too
Oooh, thanks for the update!! Thanks Shiny Crafty Poo-Bah!
You are so welcome!
Very nice, easy to follow
Super cute

Your video popped up on my feed. Now, I’m watching every video! 🤣
Have a great day!
I'm going to try this with waterproof canvas without lining.
That would work great and be way faster to make.
How did it work? I'd like to try it with a thick faux leather.
This is my favorite method so far. Thanks for the tutorial ❤

Do you think it’s because the handle connections need to be further out? They’re meant to get trapped inside the corners you create.

Thanks Timothy! Where do you get the lining??

Interesting idea! I’ll try it sometime.
wWat kind of fabric is the inside lining please?
It’s a nylon pack cloth. Sold for outdoor items. But there are similar options at most large fabric stores.

What is the name of the black lining you are using? I like the way you putting it together is real easy.
It’s 420 denier nylon packcloth.
So much easier!
Did you make that green tote behind you? Please share video if there's one
I did not. It is from a company that sells bags with your initials on them. But anyone could possibly make something similar. I’d have to look it over to see if it’s something I can teach.

How clever.

Interesting!
Hi, sorry. Can you confirm that it's 14 by 9?
The original piece should be 14x18. But you would need two pieces 14x9.5 or so if you are doing the split lining. I hope that makes sense.
It does. thank you. I might have had a brain freeze when I was looking at the video. I sewed it and it came out sooo beautiful :) Thank you.@@timothytotten9409
Would sew in foam work in this pouch.
I think it could! And would make it stand up easier.
The fusible foam from Pellon did a great job.
Too funny, my hubby asks why you are talking about "shiny, crappy" people.
Hahaha! I worry sometimes that I’ll say it wrong. Lol
What is the finished size?
ماشاء لله عليك
