    I've got one in my neighborhood that pushes the door open with his head if it's not latched. He's a red bar and I call him Johnson. Sometimes when I transfer the birdseed from the bucket to the jar, I spill a little bit of it on the carpet. If Johnson is nearby and he sees that the door is open, he comes right on in and cleans up the seed that got spilled. He's a character, and friends and neighbors are amazed and amused by this routine. He has also picked up a few new human friends who've changed their outlook on pigeons because of him. I think they really are natural born comedians.

      Yeah, too many sunflower seeds. What is great for them and they also tend to love is hemp seed. And so-called trapping mix. I add corn to it (and safflower seeds). And pigeon mix, with peas and the lot. Most of them toss out the wheat in it, though. Mine is currently tearing a paprika/bell pepper plant apart so I guess I'll need to buy some seeds and grow them as this one plant was just the result of some luck. I also should grow some grass.

      Cool question! Those are called "wing whirs." It is caused by the shape of their wingtips and feathers swishing through the air, kind of like how a whistle works. It only happens at certain speeds and angles of attack, usually when they take off and land at lower speeds.
      Also, sometimes you'll hear a "pop, pop, pop" when they take off. Their wings sometimes slap together underneath them on the downstroke, like clapping hands.

    Hi there, how do you handle to poop? I am about to have a rescue pigeon come into my house tomorrow, and we don't have any pigeon diapers or anything fancy like that. Am I going to be cleaning up an enormous amount of poo all day?! I have cockatiels..so a little poop I can handle....help, advice please!

    • @Zilch79
      @Zilch79  7 лет назад

      +Kirsty Cameron Best thing is puppy pads or,like the cheaper incontinence pads for beds...they soak up fluid and are easy to swap out.

    I have a question
    maybe you can help me
    I tried 6 times
    to tame a pigeon
    with good results.
    they were always tame.
    but the only problem was.
    they did everywhere.
    and where they wanted.
    their needs in house.
    is there no way to teach them that?
    that they always have their needs at the same place?
    I would really like it
    if you help me with this
    Best regards

      +300 BOY Unfortunately there is now way to train any bird to control their excrement because they don't have the physical means to stop it. Best you can do is use bird pants or lay down protective pads.

    • @Zilch79
      @Zilch79  3 года назад

      None, anymore. We'd have about three at a time when we'd rescue them though because they tended to fall out of the nests in bunches.

    • @Zilch79
      @Zilch79  8 лет назад +9

      Amanda Wolfenbarger Long story, but basically I used to rescue baby pigeons that fell out of their nests, raise and release them. Two of those birds nested at my house and had babies in a shelter I made. We ended up having to care for one of those babies, and when it came time to release it into the wild, he kept coming back into he house every time we opened the door. That baby is Henry.

      we saved a 5 day old girl as well. Baby, was happy to have a home here with us. and she does the same thing as Henry in the kitchen. She even is a Blue Check like Henry.
      we've been wondering if those certain coos are mating demands. as birds can get confused when raised by us. we even got her other Pigeon palls in hopes she would become more of herself. lol nope. always on our shoulder. a blessing and a curse. - hard to clean your house with a bird micro managing you on your shoulder lmao!

      @Zilch79  7 лет назад +5

      spade poet That's great! Hey, one thing that has made life easier with our bird is using puppy pads in his cage. Swap them out every couple days and it's an easy clean up. Also, if you get the ones for people (like they have in the pharmacy) they're the exact same thing as a puppy pad, but cheaper. You can get them on bulk from Amazon and cut them to fit the cage. Actually you can see them in this video. They may help you a bit.
