It's funny to watch her when the bird is out of his cage. Luna absolutely *has* to be staring directly at the bird. If she loses line of sight, she'll start whimpering. She needs to have eyes on him at all times.
I had a pigeon too. They're like this. I took mine from a busy street when he was still a baby pigeon, I raised him, he could play outside with other pigeons, but he was always coming back home, he always slept inside, he was also so sweet and loving...
Sounds much like Henry here! We toss him outside every morning for some exercise and socializing with the local pigeons. Every day, he flies home and pecks at the door to be let back in to his house. :)
You should watch out though because local pigeons carry lice and mites and other diseases like coccidias, PMV etc which your bird can get, unless you already have medicines at home in case if theres an emergecy pigoens will hide their sickness until its very last minute, part of their survival mechanism to hide their vulnerability. So be sure you check him everyday if hes acting weird if he is mingling with other pigeons. But it is so cool that he knocks the door to let him in haha. But you seem to love him dont loose him.
Patricia Chandra Thanks for the info! We do check him a lot for parasites and watch him all the time. Any changes and we take him to the vet, as you say. Usually, he isn't outside for very long, but we are super careful with our favorite bird. Good looking out!
I had a pigeon adopt me once. I named her Walter. She was the best pet I ever had. She lived with me for a year and would follow me around the neighborhood. I would let her in the house every day when I came home from work and she would sit on my lap just like your pigeon Henry. I think pigeons make great pets and it's sad most people think of them like vermin. I miss Walter
Rod Burke Aw! Walter sounds like a great pigeon! I'm sorry for your loss. I know how much Henry means to us and can't imagine not having him around. :( Maybe you can find another pigeon friend someday.
its not really people think the species are vermins but animals that live wild in urban environments are really unsanitary. Like rats, cockroaches, squirrels but would totally accept them when they are exotic
So, I used to think pigeons were "flying rats" as I always heard that around me but I always liked to watch them walk around and all the noises they make. Once a pigeon sat on my window sill and I didn't see him so I closed the electric shutter until I heard strange noises and realized I almost killed the bird. I quickly opened the shutter and gave some water to the pigeon. He stayed all night on the window sill, I pet him but not much because I didn't want to bother him. I left the shutter open, didn't sleep well because of the light but I was glad the pigeon was ok and flew away in the morning! Now I really like pigeon and I love watching vids on RUclips ☺
My pigeon was aggressive with me. he liked to box with his wings, (for up to an hour or more) bite, ram me like a bull and play hide and seek. he was argumentative, grumpy, and talked with his body language
+Robin Foster Henry gets that way, too. Sometimes he'll get pissed and attack me like he's a tiny falcon. I'll gently toss him away and he'll come back for another scrap. It's pretty silly behavior from such a puff bird.

That is flirting behavior! They use to stay that way in between the other couple legs, and him putting the head in between your hand and fingers reminds him and associates him with that. He is totally in love with you! :)
+miyuki sakamoto I'm really happy you like my video so much! And, yes, pigeons are smarter than people give them credit for, and make amazing pets that are easy to take care of. I love my little bird here.
hi again!!! just stopping by again before weekend. seems like your dog is very fond of henry. its amazing that henry isn't afraid of either dog or cat.
It's always nice to hear from you! Actually the cats are afraid of Henry. All he has to do is walk toward them, and the cats run away. The dogs stare at him, but everyone gets along really well. I think that part of the reason that the animals all are friends is because they're always well fed. There's no reason to hunt if your humans feed you every day!
We had some of these birds (rock pigeons) when I was a kid and they are fascinating birds, very tame and would eat from your hands. They sometimes make a repetitive moaning sound when they are in their nests, males and females both do it. But the males are the ones who dance and coo coo and drag their tail (5:02) along the ground. We did an experiment once and released some of the pigeons about 20km away and the next day they all came back so these birds have a very good sense of direction.
He thinks your wife is his mate ! :), He is doing what pigeons do before mating which is sharing food thru the mouth and while it looks very off . It's a bond that is being built with your wife.
His a nice bird,i used to race pigeons, they are phenomenal birds they would come home from upto 800klms. The ones that home the fastest are the ones that are peted and handled the most. Fun fact..They have more muscle then a racehorse for there weight. All the best with him.

Artificial selection. Labradors have been bred for generations to be bird retrievers. We never trained her to hunt or anything, but she has a powerful instinct to watch birds and, assuming one fell to the ground, she'd probably bring it to us. Instead, we just play fetch. :)
@@Zilch79 can you test it? Like dropping a puppet bird in front of her and see her reaction? But not to obvious otherwise she will smell something is wrong 🤣
@@emilyemily5619 Oh, we "test" it all the time. Anything we hold in our hands, if we call her name and get her attention, she'll laser-lock her eyes on until we drop or throw it. Anything flying through the air over her head, she'll lock onto. If I'm not mistaken, any retriever breed does this and it's why bird-shaped toys for dogs are popular. Dogs have some pretty interesting behavior, and a lot of it has to do with predation. If my sources are correct, the reason they like squeaky toys is because it approximates a squeaking prey animal like a rabbit, and they just chaw down on it until it stops. Also, tug of war uses the same behavior as ripping apart a prey animal with their pack, which is actually a debate as to whether it's a good idea because it seems playful, but it's possible it may trigger aggression in some dogs.
