One of the cards said 'I'm sorry it's my fault, I should've know you didn't live in Aberdeen' that's a reference to when the Doctor leaves Sarah Jane Smith in Aberdeen instead of Croyden.
I was wondering what that meant. Thank you.
It made me happy...and then sad...the last reference to Sarah Jane at this point.
peterandben what continually makes me sad is that when I was a kid I never knew why the last episode of the Sarah Jane adventures felt like it was an episode from the middle of the series...turns out it was, Elizabeth Sladen died without finishing the series and it makes me sad that her death was so abrupt and sudden. That 'last' episode is my favourite.
I thought he left her in Glasgow?
McPoke he left Clara in Glasgow
I love the face Clara makes when the Doctor starts reading the card. She's proud of the cards, which are certainly her idea, working.
Then she's confused by how a 2,000 year old spaceman can't understand that you're only supposed to say the options that apply.
I imagine there's one card that says "I'm sorry I abandoned you in a post-Dalek invaded London"
Probably!
"i'm sorry, I put you back in the parralell dimension you escaped just to be with me again."
"I'am sorry I left you on a cyber-ship while crashing towards earth and exploding over
it's orbit"
lilbluedemon sit in a corner and think about what you've done
"It was my fault i should have known you didn't live in aberdeen" Planing on apologising to Sara Jane, Doctor?
I love how "It was my fault. I should have known you didn't live in Aberdeen," is common enough that they need a card for it.
Pretty sure it's a reference to Sarah Jane Smith.
I know. It's an in-joke. But it still makes me wonder if it's a common problem for him.
Probably Clara noticed that Everytime Doctor saved someone in modern Britain he tends to drop them off at Aberdeen and she probed about it. And Doctor was like "But what's wrong with Aberdeen? It's the safest place in Great Britain!"
@@OutdatedLeon Not even in Britain. lol
@@paulkerrigan9857 yes it is, Britain includes Scotland
I love the moments between 0:12 and 0:16 IMO it really demonstrates Capaldi's acting genius and he doesn't even say anything, the look of confusion and then when Clara says 'the cards' and he realizes he's done something wrong but not sure what and not knowing what to say or do is completely communicated with just his face.
The TARDIS is scared of ghosts and that is adorable.
+Andrew Fish (Werdnae) Oh sure, it's adorable when the TARDIS does it... but when I freak out about ghosts I'm "overreacting!"
Oh sure, its cute when the doctor runs from orphans yelling about their mummies. but when i do it i'm "Unfit for parenthood" and "Should really put that flamethrower down!"
Perhaps from him being scared of what's in the dark.. and what's under the bed..
Why did I not think of it that way...
"No it's not adorable. It's very, very...serious."
I don't know why some of the Dr who fans don't like Peter as a doctor but I think he's pretty amazing
+samikshya kafle I think it's primarily because Moffat's writing has really declined to a lot of people (Myself included), which can make him seem like a bad doctor, though I personally think he's amazing
At first when you see him its meh but his comedic side and rude banter is just so entertaining to watch it reminds me of a blend of nine and ten
it's all of the teenage fangirls who only like the show because they find the young guys cute(Matt Smith, David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston.)
I'm not saying that teenage girls can't be true fans of Doctor Who(I am a teenage girl)
I'm not saying that 9 10 and 11 are bad Doctors(11 happens to be my favourite Doctor, closely followed by 12).
I'm just saying that people who don't like 12 are mostly teenage fangirls who only care about the looks
+Musical Demigod yeah, like the show isn't about whether the Doctor is "hot."
Wrongo, It was mostly about the fact it went from a show about "The doctor and his companions" to "The clara oswald show and her wacky timetravelling friend"
XD
"I completely understand why it was difficult not to get captured"
"It was my fault, I should have known you didn't live in Aberdeen"
"I didn't mean to inpmly that I don't care"
And
"No one is going to get eaten/vaporized/exterminated/upgraded/possessed/mortally wounded or turned into jelly we'll all get out of this unharmed."
Yes, I took the time to pause the video at the right places just to see what all of the cards that are shown had said.
I was trying to read this as a conversation between two people and I was really confused
Plenty AdrianNess "It was my fault. I should have known you didn't live in Aberdeen."
Poor Sarah Jane! XD
I did the same.
I did too!
I did the same thing lol
Capaldi's acting is just amazing for the Doctor 👏
PREACH
He's doing a really great job at it
I just wonder if the pasty-faced Blue Peter contest winner who gets the part of 13 is going to be the end of the series entirely.
Who thinks the bcc should sell replicas of the complete card set
This would be absolutly Amazing...🤓
whats the bcc? :). but seriously that would be a good piece of merchendise
+Camille Hamon i know that. its just that he typed bcc instead of bbc
Or ThinkGeek!
Index cards, pen, sorted!! ;)
"You live and you die, that's it."
Yeah. Tell this to Rory, Rose, Jack, the Master, Missy, Clara, Owen Harper, River, Gwyneth, your own second daugther and... well... all the twelve past versions of you XD
+Selene Well realistically when the doctor regenerates his various persona dies; as shown with the tennants " I dont want to go". Regeneration is more or less the death of the ego, the persona, but not the body.
+TheHeadlessMonk Even the body dies, his essence and memories remain and a new body is formed
TheHeadlessMonk Right, but I didn't mean only in the regenerations but also in all the occasions in wich he "actually" (more or less) died. Like with the Pandorica, the Impossible Astronaunt,... Of couse he's not "dead" but in any case is pretty similar :-)
***** Yeah, in the last part of that episode she's (SPOILER) dead; but she's still trying to help their friends from like an other life reality: a midlife between this word and the other :-)
Selene didn't almost all of them die? River faded away, so doesn't that mean she died?
Jack Aka face of bo died. Sacrificed his life to save new Newyork.
Rose isn't dead but she is human so she will die of old age and she has no more time vortex left anymore.
The doctor's daughter and missy/master are like the doctor so they will eventually die when they reach their 12th regeneration (unless the time Lords bless them with more).
Clara died by the raven.
Rory has a tombstone and died at the age 82, I think.
Idk who harper or gwyneth is so I have nothing for them.
2:40
This is the moment where the Doctor 1st notices Clara's recklessness. He sees a glimpse of himself in her and even goes as far as to trying to warn her about it.... And then finally takes things too far when she dies by the Raven....
Love this scene, I need to get myself some apology cards cuz I never know what to say in situations like that
Omg no reply lol HI!!!!
Same
timeworks!?!?!
“Why can you only handle metal objects- ooh, I didn’t know I’d noticed that!”
I can't express how much I love Peter Capaldi!
Same
+MyTinyVlog I don't know why people dislike him though.
+CavePony Because they miss their boyfriend Doctors.
+Danny O'Gara Because they miss better written Doctors.
+DarthRushy David Tennant... a better written Doctor? What show were you watching? Not to criticise Tennant's brilliant acting, but the way his Doctor was written was dreadful and simply not the Doctor at all.
Just some angsty space Jesus who was a vehicle for campy one-liners and the rampant sex appeal that runs throughout RTD's shows.
The only reason we knew he was supposed to be the mysterious and enigmatic figure the Doctor is supposed to be is because all the characters kept talking about how mysterious and wonderful he is.
I mean, we literally had him carried up into the air by two robot angels, and before that the entire planet Earth prayed to him to magically restore his youth. It's like RTD read the religious themes in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and thought "I could totally shoehorn that into Doctor Who!"
Clara's face when he said 'family member slash pet' oh my god
After finishing series 9, pre-finale episodes has foreshadowed the finale. Example, in this scene, the Doctor said "There's a whole dimension in here[TARDIS], but only a room for one me." "Do you know what you need? You need a hobby." The Doctor is getting worried that Clara has begin to change like him. That's why he stresses his part as having duty of care because he knows sooner or later Clara's dying of her recklessness in Face the Raven will come.
"Death is the one thing that unified every creature in the entire universe...and now its gone"
Perfect summary of the Moffat era
+TheJaviferrol Exactly!
Is that saying it's good or bad?
+Terminator Playz Bad.
+Terminator Playz Moffat era = Good... very, very good.
Danny O'Gara
To be fair, it started out good (series 5), but Moffat keeps making terrible stories that disrupt the continuity of the show and also has characters like the Doctor do out of character things. He does occasionally make good stories (Day of The Doctor, Heaven Sent), but they don't make up for the terrible ones (Name of the Doctor, Asylum of the Daleks, Hell Bent).
It could be my imagination but did anyone else notice the Doctor sign "I love you" to Clara at 3:32? Significantly, he's talking about his duty of care here. Also, this is the episode with a deaf character who speaks in sign language so that gesture might not be as random as it seems. Or so I'd like to think.
YES! I've seen posts bringing this up and I agree that surely it was deliberate! I would love it if it was
Yea bois
Ohhh!! That has me wondering now...
I don't think he was signing that. His thumb was touching his pointer finger, whereas when you say "I love you" in ASL, your thumb isn't touching your pointer finger at all
Capaldi's Doctor takes his "Duty of Care" Very seriously, it's something i enjoy about him. Especially the rage he show's when someone threatens the ones he cares about. The Fury of the Time Lord. The Oncoming Storm.
+Fez8745 Yeah, Capaldi and Smith are reaaaallly scary. Boo. I'm terrified.
Your Sarcasim-fu is weak padawan :P
Do you prefer Tenant ? or Eccleston?
It's not that they're Scary, but in that situation, knowing what we all know about The Doctor. It's pure intimidation. if you put yourself on the other side of the line between The Doctor and his Enemy, Its a place you don't want to be :)
Fez8745 I'm sorry, even if I was losing a battle, I would not be scared by Matt Smith coming up in my face and telling me to run away.
I'm not saying they're bad actors, but some people are just not intimidating. Like, ever. Plus, Smith and especially Capaldi both have such flippant and blase personalities as the Doctor that I find it hard to take them seriously when they go there. Face The Raven was a barrel of laughs.
At least RTD's writing had a semi-serious tone and didn't always play things up for laughs.
Yeah, Smith wasn't intimidating at all, as a personality. But that wasn't what he was about anyway. He was playful and forgetful (The man who Forgets)
Capaldi i find is more of a No bark, big bite type of dog. he's a big softy with a core of ice who would do anything to protect. "Hell Bent" i felt he definitely showed how far he would go, risking the existence of the universe just because he had a "Duty of Care".
But i guess if it's into his 2nd season as The Doctor it's too late to change most peoples opinions.
My favorite Doctor was David Tennant, And i haven't seen the original series (cuz i'm bias against monochrome and old tech)
That's just my Opinion anyway :).
Fez8745 My favourite Doctor is Christopher Eccleston. I've got nothing against Capaldi personally(I'm very fond of him, actually and I hope he stays for Chibnall), but I'm tired of Moffat as showrunner and I think the Capaldi era so far is one of the most uninspired and aimless that the show has ever produced.
"I have duty of care"- Such a beautiful, yet heartbreaking, line 😭
Hope to see these cards in series 10 #bringbackthecards
I don't think we will I think Clara introduced the doctor to the cards
Crispy ur soo cool I am a subscriber!
+Simsforever2000 I think you could have a scene where he suddenly thumbs through the cards trying to find the right one for the situation but since Clara isn't around to pick the right one he gets it wrong.
Craig Bickerstaff that would be funny
The Doctor is talking to a group of people trying to avoid being captured by aliens. He stops to look at the cards, and decides on one and begins to read it...
"Don't forget to click below to subscribe to the off-" ...tosses card.
"I'm his carer."
"Yeah, she cares so I don't have to."
Peter Capaldi is such a wonderful Doctor. An old man with a boyish twinkle in his eyes when he discovers something new. That's how it should be. :)
Yes! Yes! And how his voice can lift with amusement, and express complexity in one moment.
+Nicole Song I really hope he stays in the role for a long time.
"I'm very sorry for your loss. I'll do all I can to solve the death of your friend/family member/pet." LOL when I first saw that part.
These two episodes were so great! Really had a classic who vibe which suited Capaldi perfectly, I honestly think he's probably the best doctor they've ever had he just hasn't had enough good stories:(
+Michael McGrath I'm talking "new who" Pertwee is my number 1
Wha...? Tennant and Baker are superior! Plus they had good stories AND better companions!
Ahh i agree like yes tennant was great but this doctor deserves so much love
And they were written by the genius who gave us Being Human.
My fav bit of character development in s9. I hope he's kept some in his pockets.
+__davidmb It would be funny if they ever do a special with past doctors he pulls them out, seeing their response would be hilarious i think they would reply in a funny way.
2:31 "Put the handbrake on." Well that was an underwhelming climax.
Simple enough
TARDIS wants to get away from ghosts, so put her handbrake on so she can't go anywhere.
Love her small round face when she smiles.
Really love this episode. Clara and 12th is such a perfect duo! Capaldi is really great, hope he stays around for a few more seasons!
Dang Peter Capaldi's so good with expressions, and without words; look at his face 0:10 like he's confused but his brain is still trying to figure out why.
"It was my fault, I should have known you didn't live in Aberdeen"
For those of you who don't know, this is a reference to Sarah-Jane, who The Doctor left in Aberdeen, even though she lived in South Croyden.
"Calm, Doctor, calm. You were like this when you met Shirley Bassey" Seriously laughed out loud at that one.
I love the look Clara gives him when he goes on after "friend" with the slashes.
The cards are possible the funniest thing ever to happen in Doctor Who and it totally fits Capaldi's Doctor
3:01 to end: Is the *chemistry* showing? Because they are in synch ;-) They're not really saying what they are saying - but we can tell that they totally understand exactly what they're saying. "I care." ... 'I know.." And upon his exit The Tardis growls "Dude... did you fall in love?"
Love this scene!!! Thank you for the upload BBC!!!
Definitely going to miss Clara...but also definitely looking forward to meeting Bill!!!
This isn't the bbc.
The cards are the perfect illustration of why Clara is a great companion. She doesn't have superpowers or even super scientific knowledge, but she understands the Doctor and doesn't just go along with anything that happens.
One of the cards: 'I did not mean to imply that I don't care.'
One of the earlier episodes: 'This is Clara. Not my assistant. She's my ... uh. What's the other word?' Clara: 'I'm his carer.' Twelve: 'Yeah. My carer. She cares, so I don't have to.'
Seems Twelve has a really tough time caring about people.
bit late, but i think 12 might care most of all...
The Tardis is actually warning The Doctor about a time loop
This is a brilliant piece of writing, in the space of two minutes we see how distant the Doctor can become from human emotions (the cards) but also that he does have all those emotions even if he doesn't always show them when he's focused on something else (with Clara)
0:37 , the way Clara looks at him😂
The Doctor and Clara's conversation in the TARDIS was one of my favourite scenes of series 9.
This episode was awesome! One of my favourite scenes!
That's my favourite scene in the episode
I love the sounds the tardis makes when it talks to the doctor like the engines roaring at the very end of the clip...!
Love the nod to Sarah Jane Smith
this episode is soo underrated
THIS is what I love about Capaldi. All the things you would’ve known were jokes or were serious with 10 and 11, like the whole ‘maybe you should find a hobby’ part, you just can’t tell with him!
Under the lake was amazing! My Favorite episode is heaven sent
Dude, EVERYONE'S favourite episode is Heaven Sent.
Althalus2010 Well that is true👍👍👍😂😂😂😂
@@Althalus2010 Mine is Hell Bent-
"So what do we do?" "Put the handbrake on." 😂
Capaldi's a great Doctor. Season 9 finally has some writers that can keep up with his greatness.
Amazing... always loved this scene... the cards & an ancient, type 40 Tardis afraid of ghosts...
Clara is so adorable in the TARDIS bit.
She is xD
Clara is always adorable.
adorable?
I would say very genuine and flirtatious at the same time. but a look that only 12th knows and knows
Just notice the tardis makes a bit of sound at the end like its worried for The Doctor and Claras future
okay, they're so much like a couple it hurts.
I could do with cards like those! 😂😂
same
me to
I'm a northern Irish whovian
+Joshua Graham yea!
+Irish Whovian
Having the cards isn't the issue. Remembering to pull them out and knowing which one to read is the hard part.
I love those spinning rotors on the ceiling 🤩
I'm gutted this tardis is gone
Well when i last see 11th doctors clips i started from 11th and watched againg the series and now i wanna watch this episode which will(i know myself) make me watch it again from the 12th again... maybe 10th... i am not sure... this series keep haunting me and i love it!
"I'm sorry for continuing to make you miss your first day at Heathrow"
Or
"I'm sorry for choking you post regeneration...Time Lord things"
Or
"Sorry for being a tiny Scottish man that uses people as pawns I'll get it right the next time around I promise"
It's ok, TARDIS I'm scared of ghosts too
This is one of the few moments where you feel like there's a genuine relationship between the Doctor and Clara imo
"I have a duty of care"
NOW IM CRYING
"We put the handbrake on!" But the handbrake is always on, its what makes the whooshing noise and the shaking.
Yeah, because in a car you only ever use the handbrake.
He uses the thing he always calls handbrake. No idea what it actually is, but it seems to work, meaning it stops the TARDIS from moving and he needs to loosen it before taking off. It is probably not the handbrake though, as River specifically stated that he always left that in... That lever has already been called handbrake by several Doctors.
That was a joke. We've seen at least 6 Time Lords fly TARDISes in the show's history and not one of them was silent. If the Rani, the War Chief and a member of the Time Lord council can't fly a TARDIS without the whooping noise, then I'm pretty sure it's just how they work and it's not just the Doctor being a bad driver. The Rani isn't sentimental enough to just 'like the noise'.
Exactly TARDISes have a silent mode, like a mobile phone, by that point in time the Doctor had forgotten how to use it (The first Doctor would use the silent mode quite a lot) he after watching River semi mocking him in the Angel 2-parter then used that when they visited the white house in the 2011 opener, nothing at all to do with the hand brake, meerly River having a joke at the Doctors expence
no, that never happened, that was some stupid moffat thing
This is gonna sound really weird but I love the interior hum sound used during this scene in the TARDIS.
2:25 "They're unnatural" Guess you could say they're... SUPERNATURAL
He's "got a duty of care"...
Personally, I think that's one hell of a bird!
His Excited Acting is so Good that i enjoy and understand it LoL
"You were like this when you met Shirley Bassey". :)
In some ways Clara was 11’s girlfriend and 12’s carer.
12 is very underrated. Hope some books come out about his adventures soon.
This episode reminded me of The Impossible Planet. A base in a mysterious place, writing that won't translate and a computer voice saying night mode or night shift.
I love the Tardis scene.
2:51 i like adventures as much as the next man.
wthenextmanisamanwholikesadventures EVEN SO
That Capaldi jump scare though
Cards Against Awkwardness
Relationships: “You’re always writing songs about them...” the exact moment Lewis Capaldi picks his pen up and starts writing.
why did watching the part with Clara and The Doctor at the end make me feel sad?
because somehow you realise ''cause I've got a duty of care means' ''cause I love you and don't want you to get hurt'
It's a foreshadow of how / why she dies
Soj Amin because "i was dead and gone! why?! why did you something like this to yourself?!"
3:39
Definitely the best two-parter of the series, IMO.
2:42 and after im dying & crafting twelve and clara are too cute im gonna miss seeing whouffaldi so much i miss jenna so much 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
Waiit, it’s occurring to me that pretty much every episode this season was about death, not just the last two.
Davros’s death. The Ghosts. The consequences of immortality. War. We won’t talk about sleep no more. The final three parter.
Edit: In Hindsight, the entirety of Capaldi’s run is.
"I should have known you didn't live in Aberdeen."
LOL - even funnier after I actually stayed in Croyden in May
Oh, how I love Twelve!
This is what the Doctor should say in Lego Dimensions when he meets the new or the orginal Ghostbusters
coming here after the reaction from Thirteen not knowing how to respond to Graham’s trauma
i like this scene....the doctor is so cute....!
The Doctor's face (Peter's face), his voice, his body language ... he's so expressive, isn't he? Aw he's amazing. And that's why I didn't like Ten very much, because his face never actually showed much complex emotion.
In all honesty I had problems with Capaldi in season 8, though Matt Smith is my all time favorite so I am a little biased, but season nine, this scene especially, made me love him. I see now the sequence, war was a warrior, 9 was broken, 10 was a hero, 11 was an adventurer and 12 was a scholar/professor.
You just know something terrible is going to happen when you hear the cloister bell...
"I've had a duty of care" 3:37. Reference to Hell Bent?
This is cute. Twelve does his Best to be nice.
3:39
-I was death and gone! why?! why did you something like this to yourself?!
-Because i had a duty of care.
3:38 "Yes, yes, yes, I know"
"Can I go out now?"
*smile*
SO MUCH WHOUFFALDI
MY POOR HEART
SAME
0:22 "It was my fault. I should have known you didn't live in Aberdeen." That's a reference to Sarah Jane. When she left the TARDIS, Doctor dropped, her off in Aberdeen. She lived in Croydon, on the opposite side of the U.K.
He saw here that she was becoming too much like him, and ego aside he doesn't like it because she is only human, and being the doctor means (sometimes) putting your life on the line. He can get away with it bc regeneration but as seen in the Raven, it rarely works out well for humans
i get why people don’t like it, but i genuinely love this
This so wonderfully sums up 12's portrayal. He tries his best but he just isn't made for empathy.
Does this feel like something that Sherlock should have?
love Capaldi & miss Clara...
2 thing the doctor always forgets. Turning on the hand break and releasing the hand break when taking off
This double header is quite underrated.
Peter Capaldi just proved he didn't need a catchphrase as every line of dialogue he did was already epic.
