I didn't understand the connection to the 6 states until this video. But after some searching I found another power play map mode in the second column of buttons in the galaxy map. There I can filter on Acquiring, Reinforcing etc for a specific power.
This. Activities should list the actual state names, such "rescue pods from Expansion or Contested systems," to avoid confusion, imo. And my lord the galmap is kinda trash right now.
This was so much better than the 10 pages of "rules dump" that I was greeted with / faceplanted in, when opening up the Powerplay menu. Fdev says nearly nothing in advance and then just dumps everything all at the same time and then immediately goes quiet on how anything works in more detail. "instructions" is still one of the worst parts of this game.
Yeah, It's kind of their MO. I was just trying to figure it out myself, and was like "I bet I'm not the only one who can't make heads or tails of this..." Hence, this video. :)
I like this Powerplay 2.0. It makes system much more understandable and kinda more fun (regarding contested systems and combat). They just need to buff merit rewards somewhat and it will be golden
Imo the only activity that needs a merit buff is bounty hunting. Even at the best possible rate that you can take down pirates you'll barely earn 600-800 merits per hour. You earn almost triple that amount just doing 40%+ profit trading and even more rares trading. And around 2 to 3 times as much just flying around grabbing escape pods in complete safety. Bounty Hunting needs the buff more than anything else does.
Just speculation, but I have a feeling they're going to continually adjust the merit buffs and nerfs. I guess we'll see. But I agree - you would think actually taking out enemies of a Power would be some highly rewarded stuff!
Thank you for this. I've always avoided Powerplay because I never really understood it. This clears a lot up for the update and, now that I'm done farming superpower rep, I feel I can tackle this, where before I was just going to avoid it like always.

This is a very nicely put together video. Informative too. Players need encouragement to head into Powerplay - Both existing, long term players and newcomers. We believe Elite Dangerous Ascendancy is essentially a new title in its own right, and maybe Powerplay should be mandatory.😮
This is a really, really good summary of PowerPlay. Especially the explanation of the different system states as this is confusing. Please continue with your unpacking of PP2 in terms of strategy. I am not that bothered about my own rank gain and the rewards. But I have set myself a little project of trying to move my power Pranav into another system.
Great guide, thanks! Need a correction tho: Power Rewards - power module unlock by rank, the first example listed is for Arissa-Lavigny Duval (ALD) not Aisling Duval.
Fng FDev… thank you for stating the unstated. What’s acquisition? How many LY? Why couldn’t this script be their guide? As usual RUclips fixes their total lack of information. Great job
Couple notes here Carrier is available to land once you've completed first 5 assignments and earned rank 1. Before that you landing requests will be rejected If you want to deliver commodities to acquisition systems be aware that system you choose to deliver MUST be in 20LY from reinforced system or in 30LY from stronghold system where you picked up commodities. Took me sometime to figure out why my agent in acquisition system refused to accept my commodities. Also commodities for acquisition systems are available in reinforced or stronghold systems. But commodities for reinforcement or undermining available only in stronghold systems but they don't have that range-from-system restriction o7
I actually disagree with that. That shot I included of landing on the carrier -- That was before I completed any initial rank assignments. It was just after I pledged. I did get denied a few times, but then it was granted on like the fourth request. I think the denials (in my case, anyway) were just for lack of available landing space.
@@Mile13Gaming Hmm, maybe actually, I went into same problem near small station recently. Had never happened to me before that time for my 200 hours or playing
9:14 interesting, since the system description doesn’t say that selling rare goods in this particular system contributes to the power’s progress. Other systems showing in their power description that delivering rare goods has an impact on the power’s influence.
A powers Ethos primarily affects what activities you will be doing in a said system to earn merits. But the Ethos also give around 10% more merits for any activity that is aligned with that Ethos. You can see all of the specifics on the Elite Dangerous Ethos wiki page or I believe in the Handbook in game.
@beardedzeus1337 I was under the impression that 2.0 did away with having government type influence pp based on ethos. Where do you find the 10% bonus number, and a list of what ethos provide the bonus to specific activities?
@j.r.linden9679 the 10% is my best estimate based on how many merits i earn from certain activities as opposed to how much someone pledged to Archon Delaine does for the same activity. So its a "best guess based on data from testing" kinda thing. You can find a list of the Ethos on the wiki and your best bet on finding what activities align with what power is via in game when you select a system itll show you relevant activities for that system at the bottom of the systems details. I'm unaware of any list outside of that which shows what Ethos align with what specific activities. So you can either pledge to a power based on what you wanna do: combat if you wanna do more bounty hunting/pvp, finance if you wanna do more trading and such, or social if you wanna do more mission/humanitarian kind of activities. You can however look up "Powerplay 2.0 Merit Breakdown" and thats a full list of all activities and the merits they can potentially earn you with data points specifying what power they're pledged to. Currently it's only myself and a few others submitting data to it so we only really know the differences between Aisling Duval and Archon Delaine. But yeah the government thing might have been removed but it isnt presently known if it was in fact completely removed or not(despite FDev saying it was). So we are still testing the current effects of Ethos on the BGS and such. So ill edit my comment and remove that. Though in my testing some systems I will earn far more merits for the same activities I did in another system(of the same type, i.e. reinforcement) but made far less merits(to explain in one reinforcement system i was earning 59 merits per occupied escape pod, 33 per damaged pod, 63 per black box and 18 per wreckage component but in another reinforcement system i was barely making a max of 6 merits per each of the aforementioned items). So there's either another hidden mechanic at play or the systems government does still play a hand at the merits you earn. My best guess on what it could be is: the higher the undermining penalty the less merits you earn for the activity.
I'm looking to return after being away for a ... LONG LONG time. Could you do a video about what activities there are to do!? Last time I tried to play, I got bogged down trying to figure out what was available to do.
The only thing I do not like is that each power has the same modules just in a different order, It would be much better if they were some different modules for different powers. Other than that it seems to work pretty straightforward and not confusing like before
That's the stronghold carrier in the middle. It's escorted by a number of other carriers. None of them are player-owned, but you can land on the stronghold carrier if you're pledged to that power.
Ive waited that system because of 30% bonus for exobiology... And its gone with territory mentioning. My question is: will my carrier be a said territory of superpower or not? Because if its not - i can forget about new pp
No. Your FC has no impact or relation with your Power. However you can utilize your carrier to great effect to very quickly earn merits(by storing cargo for mass rares/profit trading.) This can also allow you to very quickly accrue control/reinforcement points for your power in a given system.
The only place to see your faction ranks is on your right hand side menu in "Status". But this doesn't show all ranks and what they unlock, it only shows what rank you currently are.
Can you share where exactly are these data links to scan for PP 2.0? Also, where are all these items listed to be handed in found? I have not seen a thing in settlements.
I'm a noob at this game, I played years ago but forgot pretty much everything. I just pledged to a Power and I have earned merit but not rank. I completed 3 of the 5 "assignments" in my Transactions menu but am I to understand that I have to complete all 5 of these missions before I will rank? What about afterwards? What if I don't like or can't do some of the missions in the next 5, am I screwed in ever moving up rank in the power? Like I said, major noob old man gamer here. 🙂
they removed the powerplay reward that benefits me the most. None of the Powers offer a bonus on Combat bonds like 2 of them did in version 1 of Powerplay
So Erm can i just pledge to a power, do missions & activities that get me merits and then if i want to unpledge the next day? And i won't lose my rank or merits ? If i were to repledge like a week or month later?
Wonderful Guide. Your System States portion is in particular a wonderful explanation. That difference in game language is a very large failure in game design which convolutes this game system and confuses the player base. The Power's Ethos page and objective's listed under mission and activates, should use the same 6 descriptors used in the system states. The fact they do not, is piss poor game design.
If you already have all the modules you need from powerplay v1, is there any point to joining a power now? Sounds like every other powers Stronghold system being hostile to you would just be a ballache without much upside
Up to you. If any of the other benefits or new modules appeal to you, then sure. If not, you can forget it exists. 🙂 I'm going to give it a shot for a while, and if it sticks, it sticks. If not, it was something new.
For a start, my favourite pastime is PVE combat (I can spend hours in there) which seems to have an atrocious ROR for merits. Otherwise, I sit with my Cutter doing surface mining for 100m CR. I do believe they should make ranks easier to attain - by that I mean, the longer you're with a power the fewer merits required to attain ranks. Second, the rank rewards definitely look as though they've been designed by a bunch of programmers. The rewards are quite unremarkable on the whole. Money off re-buy costs? I can't remember the last time I actually died... I guess, flying between two stations over and over, selling the same rare item, for 1142 merits a time is really not engaging, it's grinding. Probably doesn't help that I was just about to get a first PP1.0 weapon the week it reset to PP2.0.
@@F1ashingblade Your captioning says otherwise. I'm not poking you, it's just that the slog to rank 34 is a long one and I wouldn't want anyone to be misled.
@@Pooter-it4yg ok I see what you mean. The list of benefits is a tad misleading; I pledged to Li Yong-Rui for the exploration data buff thinking I would get it straight away.

@@andreasplosky8516 I mean, full transparency, I'm sitting here with a fleet carrier and a 7B Cr balance, so I get it. But not everyone is in that position. If that particular benefit doesn't move the needle for you, then cool.
@@Mile13Gaming I have been warning about inflation in ED for many years now. I remember having to work to get my Anaconda. These days, people have one within a week. It is one of FDevs biggest failures: catering to the "instant gratification" generation. But... I am an old-timer... my days are past.
@@Mile13Gaming what i meant was, how does one get the rank, i had 56k merits last wednesday, but on thursday i got no ranks, then later i realized i needed to complete the 5 weekly tasks, of which i was missing 3.
I actually cover that in a video coming out tonight! "Undermining" systems are any OTHER power's systems that are in Exploited, Reinforced, or Stronghold states.
Honestly, the BS surrounding PP 1.0 is what caused me to stop playing ED all together. Have they fixed the issue where a group of people playing in private group can essentially undo all the work you've done in a week?
@@Mile13Gaming Thanks anyways for the rest of the info, since I wasn't sure about the grouping names. I suspected more or less how it worked, but you made it clear to me. :)
most important question, is it open only mode now? if not fdev can burry it. Why? its a competitive thing. being rivaled by extra instanced solo and coop players is just plain stupid.
Don't think the perks have been stopped, just earning merits for handing in Data. I believe a player dropped 10 billion cr worth of data and kind broke it.
Bro I followed your instruction and spend 4 hours hopping to system to system and no station will buy the Rate Good a carry. Sometimes Elite Dangerous is just tiring to play , too much boring gameplay instead of having fun
I was always enjoying the fact that I can do whatever I want whenever I feel like doing it. Switching from exploration to combat, passanger missions or trading and other acivities. Now, with the Powerplay in place, there's a clear bias towards doing one of those things based on the power you're pledged to. I do not like that one bit. Min maxer in me will simply refuse to waste time with trading when I am not pledged to power that supports that activity.
Looking at a glance most mission are kill-kill-kill. What about transport X amount of goods or explore some systems? I'm not a bounty hunter so I guess the game stays uninstalled. Edit: I meant the Power with only peaceful tasks.
Not how the current world works let alone the galactic future LMAO. Just do the peaceful parts of your chosen power. What a dumb reason to not play. Truly dumb
tbh, for powerplay, theres way more "merit worthy" activities that *dont* involve any shooty shooty, than there are combat "merit worthy" activities. In fact, most merit worthy activities seem to involve hauling and "hacking/scanning" :/
There are quite a few non-bounty-hunting tasks. In fact, for the first 5 tasks, only one was bounty hunting. So there's plenty for you to earn if you want!
This is absolute bullish!t. I have gone to literally 30 ‘acquisition’ systems close to my stronghold, far from my stronghold, in between with various stages of Acquisition selling various amounts of rare goods at any time and STILL nothing!!!!!
This game is so terrible at explaining ANYTHING at all, its wild to me that they don't even bother to TRY explaining anything. Ever. I've been playing this game on and off since it launched, but because I take breaks I don't know how anything works anymore unless I watch several youtube videos about it. Oh and I need to use a bunch of external tools to do anything because the in game system menus have zero useful functionality even after 10 years of constant development.
This game is just bad, I honestly don't know what the attraction is, AX combat boring, ship rescuing boring, trying to jump from one system to another oh it doesn't do that it tries to plot distances that will be on the jump range of the ship do what everybody says which is going there and calculate using different routing it still doesn't plot correctly, I played this game for quite a few years and I really wanted to think it was different but it's just the same old boring stuff wrapped up with a new ship it's not even exciting there's way better games than this everybody wants to love this because it's a space game but the fact is it's garbage
I still find it very stupid that you will be immediately attacked if you are in the teritory of another power. Yeah, it's a stronghold, but guess what, one of the engineers is in a stronghold system. So good luck getting to them without blowing up because you are not pledged to that power.
Aggression levels for NPCs are actually not that bad. I've been through plenty of opposing power stronghold systems and never once got attacked. The real issue is if you go to their stronghold system and drop in at their stronghold carrier. That is indeed where you will be attacked almost immediately. Everywhere else though it'll take a couple of minutes before they notice you and start attacking you. Thats just my experience though, I've heard other people saying they were attacking immediately upon dropping into an instance as well as being interdicted just after dropping into the system. So it does seem like it's very inconsistent.
@@prisonerofthehighway1059 And that point apparently was to make the game more unattractive by forcing people deeper into the most boring activities. The combat and political environments in this game are still disgustingly simplistic. They literally just sprinkle combat zones into a system that are just tiny little furballs of fighting. No objectives, no stealth, tactics, complex sensor systems, teamwork, sensitive strategic locations, or interesting AI behaviors. All missions you take are for a different system entirely and 50% of their activity is just making the long jump. I swear every update aside from a few thargoid passes has been nothing more than another shade of lipstick on a fat ugly pig.
Figuring out what FDEV meant by Acquisition systems was a great FDEV moment.

Yes. Its the Irish spelling of Ashling. Or should i say Ashling is the English spelling of Aisling lol.
My sincerest apologies for the mispronunciation. Thanks for the tip!
@ I demand reparations for my people! 🙂
The Irish space mob will be paying you a visit!

But why does it still have to rely on third party website like inra? And I am still confused.
I mean, at this point, I just count Inara (and a few other apps) as part of Elite. Never leave home without them.
What kind of merits are you getting with mining? I do a fair bit, but haven't put much time into doing it for merits.
How can you know what powers enemy powers of the other powers are, before you select a power? lol
I thought you get Aisling's signature Prismatic Shields first.
You do if pledged to Aisling.
@@F1ashingblade Your captioning says otherwise. I'm not poking you, it's just that the slog to rank 34 is a long one and I wouldn't want anyone to be misled.
@@Pooter-it4yg ok I see what you mean. The list of benefits is a tad misleading; I pledged to Li Yong-Rui for the exploration data buff thinking I would get it straight away.
sitting at 35k merits but still says im rank 0 not sure what i need to do
Did you complete the 5 assignments?
@@Mile13Gaming yeah i worked it out that i still had one to complete all sorted now not sure where its mentioned that you need to complete the weekly mission to rank up.
For "a long time coming" this isnt enough...
Biggest flaw I see is if you’ve been playing a few months you usually have so much money that discounts and rebuy don’t matter
Sure, but a few million is a few million. Plus there are other benefits.
@@Mile13Gaming Actually, a few million in Elite feels like a few cents. It is utterly insignificant.
But... I am an old-timer... my days are past.
ok, how does one cash out the merits?
No "cashing out" required. Once you complete the task, they're immediately credited, and can't be lost.
@@Mile13Gaming what i meant was, how does one get the rank, i had 56k merits last wednesday, but on thursday i got no ranks, then later i realized i needed to complete the 5 weekly tasks, of which i was missing 3.
has anyone pledged to Archon Delaine? i want to play as a criminal but his territory seems rather small
what about "undermining sistems"?, i rlly dont understand, also y play in spanish languaje, so idk what menas "undermining systems"
5. Reinforced systems is wrong, the systems are named Fortified.
Yup, you're totally right. My bad!
@@Mile13Gaming Thanks anyways for the rest of the info, since I wasn't sure about the grouping names. I suspected more or less how it worked, but you made it clear to me. :)
most important question, is it open only mode now?
if not fdev can burry it. Why? its a competitive thing.
being rivaled by extra instanced solo and coop players is just plain stupid.
but not mining perks OR exobiology both been stopped for being too powerful :P
Don't think the perks have been stopped, just earning merits for handing in Data. I believe a player dropped 10 billion cr worth of data and kind broke it.
Right, the perks are still there. But the merits have been either dropped completely or nerfed quite a bit.
Well, then the game is bugged because right now, I am in LHS 302, an unoccupied system, and I can't deliver shit
I don’t mean your guide is bullish!t btw… I wish they had a big fkn arrow in the Galmap saying “sell your rare crap here!”
FDEV have also said that the Engineers won't have power ships, so it's a non issue for the engineer systems stronghold or not
so basically its just as boring as before but you don't have to switch to get new modules.
No it’s worse, it’s a major grind
The difference is the grind has a point. There was zero reason to get more than 750 merits in the old system. At PP2 has continuing rewards.
This game will continue to stink till they put VR in the whole game,
Nonsense.
This is a stupid grind
Really useful. Thank you!
