  • The Glastonbury Modelers are a group of free flight aircraft enthusiasts that fly gliders and rubber powered models at the Glastonbury High School Gym located at Glastonbury, CT. Throughout the fall and winter, we gather once a month to fly our models. This video is a collection of models flying from our fourth session of the 2023/24 season. Our January event was cancelled due to weather and the contest originally scheduled for January was moved to this date. Our next flying session will be held on April 7th. Our full schedule can be found at the end of the video. Special thanks to Arne Hansson for helping out with the video and also thanks to John Kramer and John Rood for help with photos.

When I was in elementary school I remember reading a book about this. The main character, a boy who lived in a large city, set out to build a plane and win an annual contest at their neighborhood armory. I think the book was written in the 50’s. Where I grew up in the 60’s no one built and flew planes like this, but I loved the book and re-read it over and over. Great to see this video. Looks like a lot of fun!

Thank you, Mike. HA HA. I was flying in the WWII mass launch and my camera helper had already left. The nice thing was I won the event with my P51B. A tough battle!

Pretty sure that design was published in the NFFS Digest but I cannot provide the month and date of the issue. There is a link for the NFFS in the description and I believe that digital copies of the Digest are available for viewing. Thanks for watching.
