I put everything togwther and the only thing that I noticed was the right front wheel seems like it doesn't make full contact with the ground like the other 3 wheels do?? I double checked on a flat even surface to make sure it wasn't on an uneven surface and I noticed the same thing. Has anyone noticed this with this mower? I have the Toro model 21466 I picked up by directly ordering from Toro. It has adjustable points for the handle that make it easy to set the way you like it. The wheel adjusters are the same Toro PIA levers. I used it all last season and love it. So easy to care for and the battery last long enough I can mow my yard one and a half time on one charge. It came with only one blade and doesn't have a speed adjustment, but does have the sensor that will turn up the RPMs if the grass is thick. Now I need to replace my Snow Blower with an electric model.

    I went with the 60V Recycler with vortex, it has that perforated air channel or whatever. Turns out I love it. I liked your review of the Toro Super Recycler. I currently own a Ryobi cross cut. I did write an email to Toro and suggested they look at the Ryobi height adjustment, handle, and the lift handle which allows you to pick up the Ryobi mower with one hand since the weight fore and aft is balanced. I would like to mention two items that most reviews do not include. The first is cleaning out under the deck. The Toro you can use a hose to clear out the grass. This is really important in my few when the grass has dew on it. Most other battery mowers you will void your warranty if you do that. And Toro is one of the few that have an established service organization. Any Toro dealer will honor your warranty, which is 5 years on this mower. The Ryobi also has a 5 year warranty BUT try to find someone one that will honor it. Most Home Depots do not even look at them, they send them out to a service center probably in another state. They tell you it will take about 6 weeks to get it back. When I complained to customer service I was told they are allowed 90 days. Also, Ryobi will tell you they have independent service centers available in the area. Well, I contacted 5 of them in Michigan and they all said they stopped doing warranty work but would work on them for cash. I could only find one service location about 30 miles away who would honor the warranty but it would be at least 6 weeks before he could even look at it. Now maybe you won’t require warranty work. I would suggest you consider it before you buy it.

    Thanks for the detailed review. Trying to talk myself into purchasing the new 60v 21568. This video has convinced me to go ahead and get one ordered. Something worth noting in reference to the Personal Pace System vs other Manufacturers self propelled mowers is the ease of use without the need to push multiple buttons or squeeze any triggers. With Toro's Personal Pace, you grab the handle and go. I have arthritis as well as carpel tunnel and I've been mowing with a Toro Personal Pace for 23 Years without any issues. I have helped friends and Family from time to time and use their mowers only to end up with sore hands and forearms afterward. Looking forward to the same drive system on a lighter mower.

    Your videos are great! You have a GREAT sense of humor and I don't understand why more folks don't have one. I got the EGO and returned it, a little because the build quality made me nervous, but mostly because their solution for powering the wheels with discrete power levels, most of which I'd never use, was as unnatural as it could be. I also really appreciate you digging into the distinction between the recycling Toro's and the super-recycling versions. Without having hands-on experience, it's so hard to know whether those terms are mere marketing b.s. or if there's a difference that warrants the extra expense, so thanks again for that! What cigars are your favorite? I hardly ever get enough down time to enjoy a 2 to 4 hour cigar, despite how much cooler the smoke is, but I do love a shorter torpedo shape and something like those nub cigars can be the perfect size for a little downtime. All the best to you!

    Improvements in one area at the cost of features in another. I'm going on my third season with my 60V super mulcher. I bought it over the Ego mainly due to the easy change from mulch to bagging. Also the handle adjustment is easy, no tools needed. The personal pace feature is ok, but I miss my MTD that I could set the speed and it would assist me going up my sloped front yard. That is a plus for me with the Ego.
    Later in the fall, I bought the big Ego snowblower (and love it). So, if the battery must be replaced in my Toro, I very well may buy an Ego as I find the 6.0 amp battery often isn't large enough to finish my little city sized lawn. I had bought a Toro 60V leaf blower just to get the battery but it had some annoying features and the charger fan failed so decided to return it and bought the Ego blower. So, having three Ego batteries versus one old Toro battery makes the economics the choice in brand.

    I had an older EGO and it suffers from the same jerky transmission. It wasn't an enjoyable experience at all. I bought a Gen 1 22" 60V recycler and never looked back. The personal pace transmission is smooth and made the mow enjoyable. I still use the other EGO tools since I have the batteries for them. However, I will not go back to their mower. Also you must get the specific blades for the flex force. The normal Toro blades will chew through your battery. I wish they make a Flex Force Timemaster deck. I'd be all over that.

    I believe the drive uses a belt drive like the gas version to pull power from the main motor. This is why the blades need to be running to engage. It is also why it feels like a clutch engagement. Pushing the handle is literally pushing an idler pulley (clutch) into the belt drive.

  • @alexmussman6372
    @alexmussman6372 2 года назад +3

    Feathering a clutch is exactly what the personal pace does. These electric mowers do it exactly the same as the gas models. As you push onto the handle, it engages the belt being powered by the blade with the wheels transmission. It’s so simple and ingenious and they don’t need a motor for the wheels like most electric mowers have done which is what’s giving you that herky jerky.

    I'm glad I grabbed the 2021 60v SR. The new one doesn't have a side discharge either (I think you have to order a separate part that goes in the back like my 60v Vortex model). I like to use it sometimes when I double cut. Would have been nice if they put the open/close lever on it like the other models, but I normally just leave the mulch plug in for that one. The battery handles my 3200 sq ft with juice to spare. The SR shock absorbers are awesome! I have a slightly bumpy Fescue lawn and I can really feel the difference between the Vortex and the SR. The 4.25 hoc option is nice during July and August here. Personal Pace has me completely spoiled and contributes greatly to my mowing Zen. : ) For me and my first lawn mowers, and my first time ever mowing experience...I really love both of my Toros.

    Thanks for the review, I do agree the self propel is jerky on the GW and the fact that you can’t use it without engaging the blades of the toro isn’t great but imo these mowers are so light you can easily get around both those problems. On the green works as you come into a turn around you just get off the self propel until you complete the turn, start pushing the roll on the self propel, no sudden jerk with this technique and with the toro when your in transit mode you just push it without self propel. I used an ego mower commercially and to conserve battery I never used the self propel I just simple pushed it. Now I understand these mowers come with self propel and therefor it should work well but I would mention in your reviews how easy it is to push them and how for some people these issues shouldn’t be a deal breaker.

I will never go to electric again. I now have a 30” personal pace Toro, bought it late fall, and now life is good. Electric doesn’t provide the torque to get a “lift” on the turf blades.

  • @mellowjammer
    @mellowjammer Год назад

    I also adjusted the personal pace cable on mine so that you barely touch it and the mower moves (like you seem to have done). But that still didn't solve the problem of feeling that I had to push too much to get the full speed out of the mower. What I discovered is that IF I TOOK ONE TURN OUT OF THE SPRING that pushes back on the personal pace handle, the mower worked MUCH better and I didn't have to push so hard to get the speed out of it that I was missing. Much more effortless mowing. I was able to adjust the cable back to a more "normal" position similar to where it was originally.

      @@asha.of.antares Push the personal pace handle and look underneath as you do it. You will see a coiled spring that is pushing back against you as you push further on the handle. I removed one end of the spring and allowed it to uncoil 1 revolution around the handle and then re-attached the end of the spring. This allowed me to get the mower moving without having to push the Personal pace handle so hard. It works perfectly now. But have been incorrectly assembled at the factory.

    I purchased the Greenworks Pro 80v with dual 4amp batteries and dual ports to replace my 6 year old Kobalt 80v (made by Greenworks). I'm very happy with my new Greenworks! It's extremely powerful ad very easy to use. It seems much more solid than the old Kobalt, mostly due to the new aluminum handle design, I think. I paid $560 during the "Presidents' Day" sale, which is awesome. Today I'd probably by the 60v equivalent at Home depot for $479. I do like the aluminum deck of the Super Recycler, but it's disappointing that they eliminated the mulching/bagging selector; that was a great feature of Toro and Honda mowers. But the lack of a single lever hight adjustment is, for me, a deal killer.

    Personal Pace trumps all other features on any other mower. Navigating around obstacles is so easy and it automatically disengages when I pull backwards. It's also 2 wheel drive instead of 1 wheel drive on other electric mowers. One wheel drive tends to pull to one side and gets stuck easy on uneven terrain. If the grass is even barely wet, one wheel drive spins on the slightest hill. Personal Pace is an absolute must-have on a mower for me.

    My 80volt Greenworks has a very annoying lag before the drive engages. I purchased the original version last year. 60Volt, 7.5ah battery just like your. Biggest wast of money I ever spent. I cut my Tall Fescue at 4 inches. This unit could not do the job. The grass is very think and the self propelled function absolutely sucked........wound up pushing it 80% of the time. Also the cut was the worst cut of any mower I ever owned. Stragglers all over the lawn. One day I cut it three times in all different directions and it still had uneven grass. Just absolutely terrible. I took it in for service and they said nothing was wrong with the unit. We then called Toro their advice was to cut the grass lower to help improve suction. One, its tall fescue, you don't cut it lower in the heat of the summer......it won't survive. two, if you cut lower, the self propelled function would struggle even more. I went out and purchased a Hustler Dash. It does a great job on my quarter acre lawn. The Toro sits in the garage.....not getting used.

    That performance mode is needed for leaves and debris(I know it speeds up with load, but you want it fast before it hits leaves). Toro did that right. I put 2 blades on my Ego to trick it into high mode all the time. Why not a single height adjust, handle adjust, move without blade, or proper mulch plug. Too expensive when other brands include it.

    That herky jerky forward movement is also bad on my Ryobi crosscut. My Toro gas powered (god rest it’s soul) used to be a breeze to cut around my circular planters in the yard, but good luck with the all or nothing throttle on these new battery mowers. I still haven't been able to get the mulch plug out of mine (same mower). The EGO self-propel starts slow and ramps up, but it is too slow and just as annoying as full-start drive systems. The nicest thing about the Toro drive system is you can start fast or slow and go at 'your' pace then slow down if there is a section of heavy grass...all without reaching for another lever that is impossible to control while the mower is bouncing around. Also, I like the individual height adjustements because you can raise the front only if the grass is a little higher than normal and it acts like a dual blade system by cutting off some of the grass blade when the (higher) front of mower passes over and then cutting more off when the rear (which is lower than the front) cuts more off. Good review! I still think the handle can use an even lower position.

    I purchased mine in 2021, same model number. My mulch plug and the handle are a little different. My first cut with the economy blade and dry grass, I "just' made it on one battery, almost 1.25 hours! But it was downhill after that and like you I did prefer the performance blade. I noticed that mulching takes more battery than either bagging or rear discharge (messy, but works). I purchased a second battery (ouch!) and all of last season I was able to get it done on with the two batteries. Not any more, I think there has been some degradation on the batteries. I am shy by about 5 minutes from finishing! I guess I will be purchasing a 3rd battery, trying to not run them down so far to help with battery life. I noticed that the battery doesn't quite fill the opening, I was hoping they would come out with an even higher capacity battery, but that may not happen.

  • @acesghost

    For the mulch plug, you always have to push in that little dip in the center, and it’s easier if you do so from a lower angle (crouched) with your fingers holding the inside of the mulch plug from the top for better grip. It gets easier the more you do it.

Think I'll stick with my 10 year old Super Recycler for now. FYI the Personal Pace transmission is driven by a belt connected to the shaft that spins the blade. Same as the gas version. That's why it has to be running for it to work. I do like the fact they built the electric motor to fit on the existing mower deck. Not building the mower around the electric motor. As always thanks for the great video. I was waiting for the " GOAT of lawn care" to review this mower.

    Where toros and others with a normal gearbox need the blade spinning as the crank from the motor spins the belts like petrol.
