Same here. Have 50f1.2/24-70f2.8/70-200f2.8/100-500 and still love my RF 50f1.8 and at f5.6 it’s as sharp as 50f1.2 at 5.6! Only downside: it’s not weather sealed
Awesome review 💜💛 And that b-roll footage is so polished and top-notch, as usual! Seeing the behind the scenes is so nice to watch! By the way, I loved that little moment where you rolled in the lens on the table before picking it up - too cool haha I'm a big fan of the compact size of the 50mm lens, but absolutely adore the 35mm. There’s just something so unique with shooting portraits on that focal length. Keep up the fantastic work, James!
I got my self the new R8 and the 50 1.8 as i had the same with my old eos R , could not find a reason for the 35 f1.8 as its double the price of the 50mm + its so close as a focal , the 50 will be better for portrait and casual photography and find it more easy to compose with it as it show what my eyes see before looking the camera , i would maybe go with the 24 instead however its bit more cost

@@JamesReader Thanks James! I was a bodybuilding photog/designer for many years though right now not much new to post. I'm nowhere near your level when it comes to portraits. You are a true pro.
James, thank you for this review. It is a joy to watch your honest findings. I bought the R7 early January 2023 and I found precisely what you did with the R7. It is very difficult to find a good lens for the R7. Your findings with the R8 convinces me I may have hit too soon and should have waited for the R8 instead. However, the R7 combined with a small lens like the 28mm f/2.8 or the EF-S 18-150 kit is a portable general purpose package. But on a R8, the 28 is probably much better. I tried the R8 in the shop with convertor + EF 24-105 f/4 L mark I and I did not buy the R8 because the grip is too small for it. I was surprised you did not complain about the R8 grip as the R7 grip is much better, the R6 is best to my hands. The R8 seems to produce much better pictures with the "average" IQ lenses. The R7 kills those.
I have the EOS R and this same lens combo and find myself wanting to swap to the R8 for that boost in AF capabilities since I have 2 toddlers. So temping !
Back in 2020, i had the same setup with the RP and love the form factor, but underwhelming video spec made me sell it. Might go back to this setup with the R8. Thanks for making this video 🙏🏼

Hi, your videos are awesome, I wonder if you can compare Canon R8 with budget lenses to Sony a6700 with best possible glass, sharpness, image quality, low light, performance, heating, battery, etc. Because these two cameras are comparable by price. Sony has best glass for apsc but canon don't. But Canon has R8 with APSC price and sony don't.
My favorite lens is the Canon EF 135/2.0. Waiting for the RF 135/1.8 to ship. Bummer that it doesn’t take a 1.4 converter. I prefer using that combo than carrying a 70-200/2.8. I love the 50mm but the 1.8 has been so cheap. I only carry it as a back up. I use a Leica Noctilux adapted to the R6II as my primary 50mm.
