Ive been listening to..and watching your posts for hours on end over the past couple months....WOW... words can not express what a gift you are to the world. I just re-visted this 6* review ..again...and even by 1:30 - 2 minutes...as I was listening...I just thought to myself....WOW.....WOW......WOW (oh...and did I say WOW?)...that has got to be some of the nicest Sax tone Ive ever heard...its round...its got warmth...clarity...its tender...but at the same time... it has that bite ...its articulate......it defines tone (as you play) and it sounds thicker up top middle as well ....I dont give a shit anymore about the neck cork tight bore stuff (Im so sick of it) From now on Im just playing my Otto's (Im not a gigging muso...I cant see buying another neck etc..) Im getting this 6* ..Modern Vintage (and 2.5s)...I just decided NOW after hearing this again....absolutely stunning harmonic sound qualities ( you said the Ottos are very balanced) and I will try to get my larger chambered (I bought a couple 8s for $100 each some years back..and found them hard work) maybe lighter reeds ? Anyway...your sound tonight knocked me out (hence Im writing ) ..your Intonation video has altered my world..in the best of ways...again WOW...I wonder why we were ever taught standard fingerings...or.. lip over teeth ? Blind leading the blind? I think Modern Vintage is a good name for this mouthpiece. SirV...subjectivity aside....after hearing these sounds...don't you think its about time we started accounting for taste ?...Did I mention the word WOW ? Donald Harrison Jr is the only other sax player " Ive heard" play such competent and amazing ..and musical polyphonics/multiphonics (Alto) SirV....if I were King I would bestow upon you The Medal of Honour of the Highest Rank....for the sharing of all the hard work you have done (contribution to world culture)...with such mastery ...humility...humour ..creativity....and basically...for being such a baddass mofo on that horn !!! ...Thank you ..from the depths of my soul ..Cheers ..Take Care
@@Sirvalorsax Im no highness....but...you take me higher ! ...and thats what its all about...there is sound..and there is music...your SOUND IS MUSIC...
Another great video, thanks for sharing. How about a comparison between this one and your metal Vandoren T6. I'm trying to decide which one to buy and having your expert opinion will certainly help. Thank you in advance. Cheers!
It's a practice warm up thing I created to get a full range of the horn. I usually only play part of it in the videos. I use it as a bench mark standard when doing comparisons to make it easier to hear the difference between videos. It is actually a real song now with harmonic accompaniment that I wrote close to 20 years ago. I'm getting more questions about it so I might just record it for a video.
I wish i could get my hands on that written out, might even do it myself. Ever thought about writing some etudes with your warm ups and licks? Always love your vocabulary in your mouthpiece test videos. Especially the way it rings in that echoey chamber you blow in. Always a pleasure brother. D PS - still can't wait to hear you blow on jody jazz ;)
PaddieFunk could you actually do that? My ear is not developed enough so it’s just hard to imagine being able to just hear this and play it. Guess it’s time to work on that
@@Joshua-gv1ep Listening to something and replicating it is called transcription and it's a fundamental part of jazz music and culture. If you don't have much experience doing this then perhaps Sirvalorsaxs licks will be challenging for you to transcribe, they aren't too complicated but he tends to play them fast which might make it tricky for untrained ears to discern. To get started I suggest you sit down and transcribe Blue Lester by Lester Young, it's not fast and his playing is pretty clear to follow. Start with the head before the solo, sing each phrase of the melody along with Lester's playing and then try to figure them out on your horn. Bite off small logical chunks until you get the whole head under your fingers. When you've got that down then practice playing it along with Lester listening to his phrasing. Then move on and do the same with the solo. I suggest using the program Transcribe to help you with the job. Whatever you do DO NOT SLOW DOWN THE MUSIC. Even if it takes you a week to transcribe one phrase, push your ear to hear at full tempo. It will pay off greatly in the long run. Good luck. D
Thanks, man. You sound great! I m looking for a relatively powerful sound like Chris Potter. The modern standard stm , modern vintage stm and v16. Any recommendation between these 3?
I don't know what kind of Link Chris plays on but I would see if any friends have any old/new Links that they aren't using and borrow them. Also, you can check the return/restocking fee for all three, buy/try them and return the ones you don't like. Sometimes changing reed strengrhs/brands and or ligatures can make a huge difference. There is a cool video of Chris Potter and Bob Rynolds playing/practicing
Thank you,for helping people you are a great person and a great musician God bless you.
Thanks
Thank you for doing such great reviews! Cannot wait until you do one on the new metal Florida Otto Link mouthpiece just released.

great sound as always
Thanks
here is a question for you. if you have a sythentic reed do you leave it on the mouthpiece and just use the cap to cover it? Thanks
I think you have found your mouthpiece.. or close to it..
Very nice sound..
Thanks
This Otto or the Vandoran?
What brand of the saxophone and silver neck do you have thank you
I play a Cannonball Vintage Reborn with a separately bought Cannonball silver polished VR neck. The Big Bell saxes come with two necks
Do all metal Otto Links have a smaller bore or is it just the modern vintage one?
Nope. Just the modern vintage ones
Hey around 3:40 I’ve heard that in other videos. Is it something that you made up and has just stuck or did you pull it from a song?

PaddieFunk Thanks!
is the modern stm worth to buy?
Yes! but... the small bore may be a deal breaker because of having to use an alternate neck/cork. I really like this piece.
