    Bob
    Really enjoying the videos.
    The insight you provide as a working musician is amazing. You are one who
    is blessed with talent, a beautiful family, and what appears to be a wonderful life. As a newbie (2 1/2 years) on the saxophone it's great getting advice and tips from masters like yourself, Chris Potter, and others who post amazing vlogs. (Dan Forshaw, Donna Schwartz to name a couple).
    Keep up the great work!

    This video is a perfect comparison between metal mouthpiece and rubber aswell. The metal mouthpiece has little to no airy sound to it while Bob's rubber one sounds like alot of air is passing through creating the soothing laid back feel. Beautiful video as usual. :)

    • @Gummientenkillass
      @Gummientenkillass 5 лет назад

      I actually have to correct myself a little. Because the airy sound comes more from the tip opening than the material. But a metal mouthpiece definititly sounds brighter in the high area, while rubber sounds softer in that aspect.

    The way that Chris passes Bob the horn holding it at the top. Is that a good way to hold it without damaging it? Tenor is so awkward to hold. When I hold it in the middle I feel like the key rods are bending.

    Hey Bob,
    Any tips for increasing practice room endurance? When I get off of work or done at the gym sometimes I'm just completely drained and don't have the energy to get done what I want/need to get done on the practice room. My ideal practice time is in the morning (which isn't always possible due to apartment quiet hours).

  • @jaysax90
    @jaysax90 7 лет назад +1

    Not that my opinion matters AT ALL, but I really love your sound on the Mark VI. You get a really gorgeous smooth, warm, round sound on the SBA (really well suited for straight-ahead playing); but I've always loved the subtle pop/R&B edge you have in your sound and I feel that the VI really accentuates that. I think it would sound odd hearing your original music on the SBA. The Mark VI just sounds like it has more balls, if that makes any sense?

    Its a little hard to tell but it seems like Chris' sound is projecting further than yours on the SBA, how much would you say that's down to the mouthpiece? (I'm going to buy a new mouthpiece this week and was nearly settled on a hard rubber Otto but I struggle projecting sometimes so maybe I should get a metal mouthpiece instead? Though I totally hear what you're saying regarding it being in the player)

    • @bobreynolds

    So, since everyone goes crazy over Selmer Mk VI tenors of the "Michal Brecker vintage" (~85k), tell us what vintage Chris Potter's horn is, so we can jack up the price of that "vintage" of horn. Like your comment that Chris Potter sounds like Chris Potter on any horn because he is Chris Potter and does what Chris Potter does. It's not the horn.
