The sunglasses, the unintentional mouthpiece talking, the low lights and bossa nova groove, this video has a lisergic energy!
babe wake up, new bob reynolds video dropped
And he’s wearing cool shades!
LOL
Just a chill guy, who plays onto Sinatra and Jobim
No man , talk mouthpieces! My favorite subject!
Hilarious opening + world class musicianship = That's Entertainment!
☺️
Every time I listen to Sinatra, I am so taken by his subtle phrasing and tone. I have transcribed some of his singing. It’s so much more musical than one realizes. He’s just about my favorite singer.
Miles Davis when asked where he learned how to phrase ballads: Frank Sinatra.
Sorry Bob but you look like you’re on a good “buzz” and contemplating if tomorrow is worth the hangover 😂🎉❤
Giving hungover vibes wearing your sunglasses and drinking lots of water. That mouthpiece sounds super nice when played softly.
Hey man yeah I lost my regular glasses too
😌
Yup. I get it. Just late and just Topo Chico and just my only glasses rt now. And just felt like making a random video
@@bobreynolds was great to meet you at your masterclass in Manchester a few years ago
tone so bright he put on sunglasses
🤣
Your tone on "Equinox" sounded great.
It is kind of a vibe. Until I play loud.
I love that album too!!!
@bobreynolds - here’s another share where you’re like my next door neighbor. Let’s just sit down and shoot the breeze about music, latest mouthpieces, what are we listening to….thanks for being so relatable and inspirational.
PS - I was at the show you did with John Mayer in the Woodlands, 2010 I believe - you and he jammed a duet for about 12 minutes, you were on your soprano. That’s my personal favorite way to play. And that was my favorite part of an amazing show.
Thanks! I felt that way making it and almost didn’t share bc felt like there wasn’t really a specific “point” but I miss the hang with those in this community who might feel like you just expressed. And man, I loved loved loved those nights jamming with Mayer. Was a real “pinch me” season of life.
@ And Happy Thanksgiving! Hope it’s full of family food and music!
I’ve never been a big Sinatra fan… I know - I know… but I have a sneaky suspicion that this record might turn me around. Gonna search for it right now. Thanks!
Oh, and beautiful soft, smooth tone… it didn’t sound too different when you pushed it… not to me… but I understand your quest is one of legend… so every little factor matters.
Especially beautiful for this type of tune (bossa?) in the very low register as well as the very high. That was special.
Have a great week and a very happy Thanksgiving!
I've been playing one of these for about ten years now. When I ordered it, I ordered 4 similar ones. They all played differently. Still, what you describe counts to a degree for all of them.
Also, pretty dark vibe in the video. I hope you're doing well. All the best!
I’m good. Just was late and thought I’d make a random video since I’d been procrastinating by scheming all the details I need to cover for the “next video” which led to (once again) making 0 videos.
@bobreynolds glad that you're good. I could listen to you talk about mouthpieces (or any other topic) for hours so don't give yourself a hard time :)
Still sounds like Bob Reynolds to me! Amazing man 👏👏
You sound great on everything
This whole mouthpiece saga makes me glad I suck too much to have it make that much of a difference to me, lol
No way, Kris! But I doubt I’d be noticing all these subtleties had I not stuck with one for 26 years. Keep practicing and you, too, can become this obsessed about minor details 😌
Ha ha… actually, maybe I should just pick up a couple of copies of my current mouthpiece, just in case…
Looking sharp with them shades on Bob...just chilling there...the vinyl also sounds great
The struggle is real, This is the way.
Thanks, I’m going to check out that album. I’ve always liked Frank. This sounds refreshing
👍
thanks for the record pointer - added to collection.
Second that. Sinatra and Jobim? Thanks Bob.
Just another great video thx fer sharin'...........
You were playing a metal piece at some point (maybe a big link) and to me, that piece sounds incredible and truly your sound
Recorded this whole album playing it. open.spotify.com/album/75h2k0PAgCVzBYsbrqnDv0?si=hgzQx_bFT0uhRh3YRhoNkA. 9* STM NY w 3.5 RICO
💟Brasil
i use this mouthpiece in a 7* and think i got lucky because the tone's still pleasing to me when i push it. but i don't have nearly as many to compare it to haha
You’re in a whole another universe of skill level from me, but I’ll throw out there that I play an Ishimori Woodstone Traditional Jazz mouthpiece and really love it. Have you tried Ishimori? They seem to be well regarded.
I’m in the U.K. the “Cityscape” c.d. Is about $75 here ( on E-Bay ) 🥴…..
You sounded killer on the metal ny!
I recorded this album on it (9* NY STM): music.apple.com/us/album/but-of-course/1769429478
Be my Teacher Mr. Reynolds
I’ve played an otto link tone edge for tenor for a while now and have tried other mouthpiece like the get a sax slant and other otto links and none of them really do the things I want like the otto link tone edge. You sound great on this piece though maybe a little brighter in the upper register.
I’m trying to get them to make them like they used to!
Try to keep your fingers off the vinyl!🙂
Like most others, I have an Otto Link 7 for my tenor and I think it's great. I also use one of Dave Walker's (All Brass & Woodwind, Leeds, England) magic ligatures. You are sitting there stressing about mouthpieces, but ligatures make a whole world of difference! Do you have a tone tablet in your lyre hole? (Corry Bros. Mouthpieces) This makes a surprising difference to your sound as well and is cheap to get. Always great to see you Bob, thanks for the vid!
See ligature video in my channel. I have so many it’s silly. Also, that vinyl in particular is already scratched up bad. But you are right and I don’t man handle the ones in good shape
@@bobreynolds I'm a bit obsessive about vinyl! Dave's lig is the simplest ever, I like simple. I don't think I will ever need a different one from that.
Have you tried Aaron Drake, Morgan’s or Arnold Montgomery pieces?
I second Morgan mouthpieces
Some. I want to play a link. Like all my heroes. I want them to make the mouthpieces better. The fact that plenty exist proves it’s possible. I just can’t believe how difficult it’s been. The devil truly in the details.
@@bobreynolds There a fantastic refacer in Malmø called Istvan Gabor, he has somewhat of mythical status here in scandinavia. maybe you could hook up with him if intrested?
@@bobreynolds a man of true culture
woo
I'm always looking for listening suggestions, more of this please.
Sounds like you need some anti-static on the vinyl.
bought a cleaning kit. didn't seem to make much difference. 🤷♂️
@bobreynolds maybe an anti static mat under the disk. Also make sure the turntable is grounded. Low humidity seems to make it worse.
What vinyl reader have you got?
You are new to me Bob yet I dig your playing Sinatra so so Brecker o yeah and Equinox .I'm into the old and new Booker Ervin Paul Consalvez Lucky Thomson Eddie lockjar Davis .those were the oldies like Albert Ayler, Erick Dolphy etc Anyway I'm going to subscribe today.
I don’t want to talk about mouthpieces……. Proceeds to talk about mouthpieces.
You can still always get your old mouthpiece refaced back to what it used to be. I have a vintage hard rubber Berg Larsen that died in the same way, and i sent it out to be revived...I havent needed anything else for that setup since
Might be headed that way. We were hoping to achieve via a blank so as not to permanently alter the control
@ Making new mouthpieces is always a work in progress. Ive noticed that you've been on the search for something just as good or better for a while, but still seem unsatisfied. Certainly not a wasted endeavor, but at the very least, it's nice to have ole' reliable to fall back on.
Try the Wanne Ambika first edition. It’s terrific. One is on eBay right now.

I can hear what you mean about the tone when you push it. It kinda thins out. It's not super consistent.
Exactly. And I didn’t even push 100% bc didn’t want to distort mic. Also why I backed up.
The piece is good. Spend some more time with it. I like the sound. Great music too. All around.
Thanks
Topo Chico…🤔🎵🎶🎵🎷
Hey man, you do a great Max Headroom impersonation with the shades!
As soon as you mentioned Claus Ogerman I immediately thought of ‘Cityscape’. That was one of numerous landmark recordings that came out when I was in college and listening to it still puts me in a magical space.
😌
Though you may be less on dealing with mouthpieces right now but, check into Johannes Gerber mouthpieces. Specifically the Vintage Slant Model.
He made me a custom piece. Slants are not what I’m after though
bob let you sample those records and make a lil beat tape for the RUclips
you slay at piano. get some drummer and rip some shiz.
big love
Hey Bob, I tried that mouthpiece too, The upper range was really thin.
Yeah 😔
Sunglasses, sub tone and stream of consciousness.
Nailed it 👍
The mouthpiece trauma is getting rough.
Oh nooo, please don't hold your vinyl records like that! 😄 Also, it sounds like both the record and the stylus could use a proper cleaning.
See my comments below. Has been cleaned. Old record inherited w lots of scratches
What you're doing might be valuable Bob, not the actual collection, which will soon rival Imelda Marcos's shoe collection.
But going deep into the search for a new mouthpiece is honing a specialized aspect of your ear, focused on nuanced tonal details that seem to go unnoticed by others.
But…I don’t want to talk about mpc…I have the same one☮️🎶🎵🎶🎷
Surely your sound image is strong enough for a mouthpiece that feels comfortable to grow into what you need, given some time. i don't get the constant changing. Plus you sound as wonderful as ever. So perhaps: just get over it? : 🙏🙏🙏
It’s about the feel. How these things feel-so far, almost none feel comfortable. Which leads to sound. And complete astonishment at the way the mouthpiece makers have cowtowed to players who want “easy” (little resistance/thus too bright) etc. now I’m on a mission and discovering there is a gaping hole in what’s available.
@ I hear you! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I think you’d be better off going to a great guru who makes a custom piece like Ted Klum etc and working with them to find your piece.
I really do want to find my peace.
😂
sounds like a berg larson... mid unless you want to sound like that
You're at home in a darkened room.
You are wearing sunglasses.
I used to respect you.
