My beloved 18yo K1200GT has reached the end of its life with me as an owner and I hope that will find a good home to go to. After I watched your video, I placed an order for the 1300GS almost immediately and I can't wait to get it and start adventuring again. The very BEST video I have ever watched, well done!!
One of the best video comparisons of the R1300GS and R1250GS. Have a R1300GS on order and have watched a LOT of videos. This one of the best, so thanks for all the work you've done to put this together. I know it's not easy.
Hello Scott, Good evening and congratulations on your order which version have you chosen? And thank you for your feedback, more to come in January when hopefully the weather is dry. Kindest regards Carl
@@justthewayitis Ordered the green 719 version. May need to wait a while as the initial USA orders are built on spec. I want the black forged wheels, not the gold ones.
0:49 Excuse me, an upgrade would be a matter of opinion. In fact I am glad I have the R1200 GSA LC and not the R1250 GSA LC. And would I buy the new R1300 GS? Not unless I wanted a new motorcycle and I was without a motorcycle at all or if my old GS was 10+ years old. I am amazed when I read that someone with a 2 year old R1250 GS wants to buy the new one...because it is "new". LOL Oh well.
I must have gotten an exceptional gearbox in my 1250. Whether the bike is cold or hot, when I engage 1st gear, the only sensation I experience is an audible one. A simple click with no abrupt movement. Best gearbox I've ever had. Clutch pull is minimal and shifting through the gears is effortless and buttery smooth. If the new bike is better it would have to have an automatic transmission but who would want that.
It sounds like your gearbox was built by the master tech on a Monday morning, lucky you 🙋🏻♂️ … if only the rest of us had one like that. Best wishes Carl 👍
The removal of those buttons for suspension and heating was certainly an oversight. Even in hot countries the heating is useful. Having to navigate through a menu to change damping on the fly when the corners come up will be unpleasant.
Amazing review of the new GS, you explained it very well mate, being an owner of a 1250 made you able to run a very accurate comparison and I could feel the joy in in your voice while explaining the new improvement like the gearbox and the quick shifter. Thanks for the informative video.
Hello and welcome Glad you enjoyed it, and well spotted, I was certainly very impressed and tried not to be to "over excited" about it, I will keep my 1250 for now, but the 1300 is an amazing bike and if i didn't have my 2021/22 GS I would buy one in an instant... its that good. Kind Regards Carl
One of the reasons I bought and love my 2021 1250 GS Ralley is the “tough” look with the crash bars and headlight grill. Late 2019 I gained interest in buying a GS after a trip in Vietnam riding a duel sport throughout the North. I waited til 2021 (after the pandemic) to buy. So happy I did. I’m sure the 1300 GS is a great bike - but honestly I’m just so happy with my GS. I am 6’2” and it’s just a great fit .
What an excellent and thorough review. Your right, I’ve watched some of the big bike channels and they glossed over all the details you’ve captured. They convinced me I should be looking at a used GS1250, but you’ve made me realise the new bike is better in almost every way. As a Mechanical Engineer I appreciate all the details, especially in justifying such an expensive purchase. Great vid as usual, thanks.
Thank you !!! I really think owners should try at least one model possibly two at their local dealerships, to get a feel for what is possible as each model is different. If i was buying new today, it would be the new R1300GS ! and yes they are extremely expensive so making sure it meets all your needs as a rider and matches the type of roads you ride on is very important. Kind Regards Carl
BMW gives a lifetime warranty on the driveshaft on the 1250 GS. Not so with the 1300 GS, you get to pay to replace it every 60,000 KM, plus the 20k service intervals. Pretty expensive deal, if you ask me. Glad I bought the 2023 GS Trophy.
After this review im very happy to keep my GSA 1250 2022. I got a nice back brake light, direct access to my heated grips .i wont have to shell out on indicators if i come off or tag a low branch. ive lost weight so my bikes actally 21.8 kgs lighter. My start button that i use less than my heated grips button is in a nice out of the way place and im not distracted utilizing at my menu when riding.well happy with my luggae locks.cant beat Mechanical's locks,. Bets thing on this bike is the adaptive cruise control radar. Greta content and one of the best reviews i have seen.
Hello Stone Cold, I like the way you have thought this out and well done for your amazing weight loss 👍. Yes the new radar system and blind spot detection system are very well implemented. Have a great Sunday Carl
Best 1300 overview currently available online, especially for 1250 owners like myself. Well done as usual! My only gripe with the "old" bike is the clunky gearbox with quickshifter which is embarrassingly bad in comparison to the rest of the bike. Having said that I can definitely live with it as and am not planning the upgrade for many more years.
Yep, i feel the same, my 1250 will be staying for a good few years yet, but the new gearbox really is nice, its not totally perfect but its a massive improvement for the GS. As I've mentioned to a few replies here, if i currently didn't have my 1250 Rallye 2021/22, i would buy one !! Its that good Thank you for your feedback, Carl
I have a 1250R. The quick shiftier is smooth and works well under acceleration, when one most needs it most, but it can lock on down change, but that does not bother me.
@@justthewayitis Maybe it’s better tuned on the R. On the GS also it works best between 2nd and 4th gear when accelerating with high revs but overall not great. It’s more annoying when you test ride a bike that does it better lol
The lack of a dominant brake/taillight assembly is a safety error. If I buy a 1300 I’ll be adding a pair of Clearwater Billi Brake Lights. The Clearwater Brake light is fantastic and has saved me from tailgaters. Their driving lights are also a must have. Thanks for the comprehensive review.
Hi Charles, your very welcome 🙏. And Yes totally agree about the lack of rear tail lamp assembly it’s a silly setup they have on the R1300GS. Best wishes Carl
Outstanding review!!!! 100% spot on with headache of suspension and heated seat and grips being moved to a menu buried in the TFT. My friend just picked a new R 1300 GS Trophy with all the premium options. Bike looks outstanding. Love the flake finish on the wheels. That said, he was burning his @$$ because the rider seat was set to 3. He thought it was controlled by the passenger heat controls. I told him no because I have a 2022 R1250GS 40th. Anyway we got into the menu and turned it off. Bike looks fantastic in person. We are in Connecticut so he is one to take a very early delivery. He absolutely LOVES the bike.
Thank you. I've been riding for a very long time. I'm a life learner. In all things. I've been told I'm voracious about learning. I'm voracious about unlearning. I recently suffered a very bad back injury which took me off the motorcycle for an extended period of time. I took a very short ride just yesterday to touch up on some skills. After a little bit of practice was stopping and some loose gravel situations I decided to go ahead and take a pleasant ride and check out the fall colors. I was struggling on a road that I know very well that has very tight twisties, off camber 180s, The whole nine yards. The whole time I knew it was all my head getting in the way. The universe put this video in front of me this morning. So thank you, and the universe. I forgot how to enter a corner. 🤣 Side note. Anytime somebody ask me anything I always seem to send them after discussing that topic with them to your RUclips channel. Old Harley riders, new guys that want to get out and ride sport bikes. I tell them all. You're a fantastic source of knowledge, insights and most importantly an inspiration to practice ³
Hi John, thank you for your message, we all continue to learn even as we get older. It’s great to hear your back out on the road well done! And as I know very well back problems on are not easy to cope with. Kindest regards Carl
The best review of the new model by far - the press seem to have missed the detail that you have provided. I will wait for the new GSA personally but your review of the standard model has answered a lot of questions for me. Great channel and great content from a motorcyclist not a journalist!
Hi David, thank you, your feedback is much appreciated, I think they are already testing the new GSA so we should know more early next year. Ultimately BMW will probably wait to see how this new GS version is received before deciding on the final look and specs of the GSA. its going to be very interesting. Carl
Hi Graham, I think maybe your comment is for Matt from the channel The Bike Show… Matt has indeed been through a very difficult time and our thoughts and prayers are with him, he’s shown incredible courage with this a very difficult illness. Best wishes Carl
Thanks for another well produced video, great information as always. It's refreshing to hear relevant opinions from an owner of the previous generation bike too, vs the standard spiel served up by professional journalists. My 1250 is less than a year old so I wont be looking at an upgrade any time soon, but I really enjoyed your content, as always. Cheers from .au
Excellent review Carl. Spot on comments. My number 1 ‘go to for your reviews and look forward to your continued R1300 reviews, tyres and or comparisons. Why? Your concentration on the less subjective and more objective issues put them apart from the main stream commentators. My garage now includes both the R1300GS and R1250GS.
Hi Rodney, thank you for your kind words, very much appreciated 👍. Lucky you to have both, are you enjoying the new 1300 ? And will you also keep the 1250?. FYI the 2 year review goes up next week on Friday Best wishes Carl
@@justthewayitisYes Carl, really enjoying the 1300. Still amazing me in all aspects of riding as I get use to the impressive dynamics of this bike. First service next week. The 1250 still a great bike and now looks like staying in the family with my son now returning to MC riding. Cheers, and looking forward to your ongoing greatly appreciated reviews.👌
It looks nimble and Badd Ass to me! I have owned a 2008 1200 GS and now a 2018 Rallye 1200 GS. at 64 years old this month, I will be upgrading to the 1300 sometime in 2024 or 25! GREAT unbiased review. Thank you!! Roger
Great review. I'm pleased to have found this a sI have ordered a 1300, chopping in my 2019 1250. It was good to see that you can adjust the suspension as I felt that I would like to soften the ride back up in road mode, and you have shown me how to do it! Looking forward to part 2 and delivery in the next few weeks.
The 2023 r1250gs LOW version is actually about the same height as the 1300, and surprise surprise also feels much lighter and more nimble than the full standard height r1250gs ! But i still think the 1250 is better looking than the 1300 ! I'm so glad i bought the 2023 version and not the 1300, and bonus, All my accessories fit from my last 1250 and i don't have to spend thousands upgrading my accessories, inc luggage, to a new model GS !
Hi Andy, thank you for sharing your thoughts with regards to seat height between the two, this will help other owners 🙋🏻♂️. Many new owners will be happy they bought one of the last 1250 gs models especially with regards to accessories and luggage. Kindest regards Carl
Most of the reviewers are just repeating like a parrot the specs and features. Thorough and Impressive review. Aprreciate your time and effort to make such an eloborate video.
Hello Willem, Thankyou and welcome to the channel, it’s a shame the 3 days were very wet for this first test, but even so it was a lot of fun. Kindest regards Carl
I have a G650GS and sat on the R1300GS at my local dealer yesterday. I was totally blown away that this large bike felt exactly the same weight as mine. I moved back and forth a few times between bikes to see if I was delusional but no, they feel exactly the same when you tilt them left and right. I have a comfort seat on my 650 so the seat height was exactly the same. I asked the salesman if the tank was empty but no, it was full of fuel. I don’t know how they did it but don’t take my word and go sit on one today.
Hi Graham, a lot of owners have been positively surprised about the seat height and feel. When you ride it at low speed it also feels like a bike from a smaller capacity. Thank you for sharing your experience 👍 Carl
As usual, a great detailed explanation. I absolutely hate radar cruise control on cards. It robs me of the flow through traffic because it slams on the brakes and can't anticipate my lane changes. The blind spot warning system is great, but I use my GS offroad and will immediately remove them to replace them with Ram mount base mirrors that are crash-proof. The bike is definitely step forward, but I love my R1250 and there isn't enough to take off or replace all the customizations I have on my current bike to use this instead. After my extended warranty (6 years) runs out I will look at replacing, but that's 4.5 years away and there will probably be a new updated version!
Hi Ryan, yes I’m sure by then an update will be released. It’s going to be interesting to see what they do with styling for the GSA, as I think overall the new GS look has not been well received my current owners. Have a great weekend Thank you for sharing… Regards Carl
Hi Carl, this is a fabulous review, and you touch on the day-to-day issues that a driver encounters. The Option 719 is my first GS; I have been riding it for the last four weeks in Australia under all conditions. It is a fantastic bike and incredibly versatile. Your review and comments are spot on. Specifically, I like your thoughts on the menu and what I can select quickly with the available buttons. There was always one function short as I was playing with what two functions I should put on the Rocker switch. Heated grips, windscreen, and damping are the most frequently used ones. Another function that is too deeply hidden in the menu is turning the auxiliary lights on or off. I really like your suggestion to add a long press to the mode button. When driving at night, I also missed illuminated switches as I have yet to memorise to find all functions and switches in total darkness. Thanks for a practical and thoughtful review focussing on the rider's experience and what matters to get the most out of the new GS.
Hi Matthias, congratulations on your new bike and thank you for your feedback on the video. I hope BMW make some small changes to the menu system but although I have given this suggestion directly to the development team, there seems no interest in updating the software 🙄. But best wishes to you Regards Carl
This is the best comparison of the new GS model. After watching this video, I have a positive attitude towards the new GS. I also have a 1250 GS and similarly at night I miss the button backlight :) Thank you for the video Karol
Thank you, yes its a shame about the handle bar controls, we will probably have to wait until the next generation or major update to see them added, which is disappointing. Best Wishes Carl
Hi. yes, the comfort is very personal, but some parts are usually a little through, then you can always adjust to yourself if the base works. Thanks to the wife for wanting to share her experience. Im not at the sporty age, so I can hope that the 1300 is sufficiently sporty, so you'll see how it feels when you get the chance to try it. Thank you so much for the answers and look forward to your longer testing and review of 1300 with passenger. Christian
totally agree with everything sayed! I did own the very same 1250 Rallye 2022 and just sold it a week ago. This was due to my experience riding the 1300GS at our thight bents here in Switzerland. I will miss the beautiful frame from the 1250 and also the smooth sound of this very good engine. The 1250 is the best bike so far, can be even quicker than XRs and Rs in Pass streets! But there is this 1300 now in blue colors which a will pick up tomorrow 😊…
Well congratulations and i hope you have a lot of fun on your new R1300GS. its certainly a big step forward, and although many do not agree with my impressions on styling, I do like it. Have fun, thank you for leaving a comment Carl
Very tempting to move from my 1250 to the 1300 for many of the things that have been improved upon. However, I’m still loving my 2022 R1250GS and will see when the 1300 GSA version…and I’m guessing an M version comes out…before I make a change. Great video-I feel like you’re the kind of GS owner I identify with and value your point of view. Thanks for all the great content.
Hi Mike, thank you and I like you will be waiting to hear more about the M1300GS, I did ask my contact at BMW, he said No Reply lol, so guess we just have to wait Kindest regards Carl
Thanks Carl. Great first pass on the important features of the bike. Very good explanation on how the rider will experience the new bike versus the 1250. Many reviewers other than you, have missed the fact that the damping setting within each of the modes can be individually configured to one of five settings. I watched over half a dozen or more reviews before any other reviewer mentioned that and, it was only one of them other than you that did. One thing you left out with regards to suspension is that the new DSA system has a second spring in each shock allowing for the actual spring rate (not preload mind you, specifically spring rate) to change with the riding mode selection. The engagement of the second spring (sitting in what looks like an elongated shock fluid reservoir) per my understanding, is engaged and its effect is controlled hydraulically. For those that are performance oriented when it comes to suspension, the fact that damping is user configurable within each mode and, that the mode changes themselves actively change the spring rate too, is a big deal. The spring rate selected per mode as I understand it, is factory pre-set though and not configurable (i.e. unlike the damping, there is no user configuration for spring rate changes other than the factory default inherent in selecting a given riding mode). One more thing, for short riders like me, the adaptive ride height front and rear is also a big deal. Shorter riders like myself ( I currently have a low ride height 1250GSA) no longer have to permanently give up suspension travel just in order to be able to get our feet down reasonably comfortably at a stop. I hope that the combination of the more slender rear subframe/seat you mentioned plus the adaptive ride height and the available low seat option will in fact be the game changer for shorter riders that it portends to be.
Hi Rocky, thank you for your in-depth comment, with regards to the other suspension features. I actively decided not to talk about this in the first episode for 2 reasons 1: the video was already long and I felt it would be too much technical talk for a first review. Also many owners are not really interested in the technology they just want to know the bike works and performs well, so a balance needs to be found. 2: I hope to have 1 possibly 2 other bikes to test during which I will have more technical explanations about the new systems, but to do this I need time, not just 3 days, I need a bike for several weeks to create such content. I’ve made this crystal clear to BMW and it’s now up to them to provide a bike for a longer test period. However you are absolutely right it’s a major enhancement that really deserves more focus and owners really should have an understanding of how important this is. No idea why the other testers didn’t talk about this as for me it’s key to the success of the the new R1300GS. Thank you for sharing and your feedback very much appreciated Kindest regards Carl
Thank you for the response Carl. I can understand that not everyone wants to know about or cares about technical details that are perhaps best discussed separately and in greater detail once more time can be had to explore their implications. Another reviewer just recently made the observation that the new GS is not really one bike but can in fact be a very different bike ergonomically and with respect to its suitability or lack thereof for given rider's preference and mission. That is, it can be, depending upon which options one chooses to purchase and how one configures the suspension and other electronics. The 1300 GS I plan to end up with will likely be noticeably different from riders with other missions and, just as importantly, whose physical stature is different than mine. I enjoy my 2019 1250 GSA for all its versatility but have come to learn after all the miles that I have put on it, that for me, the sportier side of the sport touring equation is really where my heart is. When I bought it 4+ years ago, I would have been happy with just touring on it but, having discovered it was capable of quite sporty riding on the street, my expectations for the next generation bike were raised. Dirt capability is and always was, pretty far down the list for me with my existing GS. Anticipating the eye rolling from some Adventure purists, I personally see no contradiction in this because it is such a versatile and enjoyable platform "just" as a street bike - with no Adventure Bike pretensions. For context, I have a few years experience riding full on dirt bikes. I also recently spent 2 days at the BMW Performance Center off-road riding class in South Carolina riding a 1250GS. I highly recommend that for anyone, that is whether or not they intend do much if any off roading. It will improve riding skills and confidence on the bike noticeably and, it offers a deeper appreciation for its versatility. (And, when you drop the bike as you undoubtedly will, multiple times, there is zero liability. If the bike you are using gets broken they simply get you another one to ride.) I hope BMW comes through with longer term test bikes for you. I very much look forward to your further in depth reviews of the 1300GS. -Rocky @@justthewayitis
Hi Rocky, good morning I do agree that this new platform can be tailored to several completely different formats, and like you…the sports touring setup is indeed where I like to be. I have heard good things about the BMW off-road classes so perhaps I will try one next season. I do hope I get the opportunity to test other variants and have enough time to put together some interesting technical episodes, it’s now up to BMW. I’ve passed my thoughts onto the team in Munich along with suggestions to fix the lack to buttons/ controls on the handlebars , which could be easily done via a software update to add LONG PRESS features to some buttons. How they choose to respond to this feedback…. Smile… I just don’t yet know. Carl
Very thoughtful and detailed comparison. The 1300 has major improvements and minor annoyances. I'm amused that so many people strongly dislike the look of the headlight. I like it. The 12kg weight loss, improved gearbox and suspension, and more low down torque are all significant improvements.
We all see something different, to me the starfish headlight looks ridiculous and the plain block of cheap black plastic above hiding the forward sensor just as bad, then again you're not having to look at it while riding, on the plus side
I think a lot of the negativity is due to the fact that gs riders are dominated by aged (self included) riders who don’t like change and probably don’t need the enhanced handling or performance. Personally I welcome the the new and have sold my 2022 1250GSA 😊after 30k-‘m to get the new one - sadly it is a wait till early next year for Oz. Hope to put many k’s on it !
Thank you for your honest and precise review! great work by BMW with this new bike. I think the "old" 1250 will still remain a great bike. and it will remain my bike for many years to come.... 😊 Well done Carl!👍
Thanks for the review Carl. I just bought a 1250 GS Triple Black (not GSA), because the price difference for the 1300 would have put me out of the market. I appreciated your attention to the seat height etc, but at 188cm, it's not a problem for me. What I do have a problem with (and yes, I have seen the videos on this topic) is getting the 1250 onto the centre stand. I'm sure it's just my technique that is flawed so I will persist and learn. I'm 60+ so that might have something to do with it! (LOL) Otherwise, I am extremely happy with my 1250 and can't see me changing for quite a few years. One of the deciding factors against other brands in this category was the low speed handling which I found far superior on the GS. (the Triumph Tiger was really scary in this area for me, and executing a low speed turn, particularly when following other traffic was not smooth at all - lots of clutch and throttle work. This also extends to the ability of the GS to maintain a constant speed just with throttle control. I understand that some of this is related to ability, but I don't feel like working hard to control a bike) Greetings from Australia! 🙂
Hello Michael, congratulations on your new bike, it's a lovely feeling 🙏 and the TB does look great. Putting the 1250 on the centre stand is a technique you will develop with practice, you can try moving the preload button to Max as you arrive home and as your 188cm it should still be OK for you dismounting, but using Max will make the job much easier. Thank you for your feedback, best wishes Carl
I appreciate the time and research that you have done to produce this video. Folks have no idea. As a 1250GS Triple Black owner, I just had to take my local dealers demo 1300 out. Thoughts, certainly more sporty and flickable and felt like a 750/900 from its reduced size. Gearbox made a noticeable whine and as you say about first gear, there was a kind of disconnect between the lever and the box as it took its time to engage. Loved the screen and thought he switchgear was fine, but why no back lit buttons? Radar stuff was great. The looks I kind of am not too sure about at the moment... as no doubt I do not sit in the newer BMW younger target range 😂 Bike will be easier to clean thanks to the Teflon frying pan finish over everything. Engine wise, mine has been hill topped and didn't notice major performance improvement if any.The bikes looks etc, I suspect will divide the GS community and be a talking point in many pubs and cafes 😂.For the extra money to change at this time I will not be swapping my GS1250.That will please the wife👍
Hi GSD, firstly... your doing great with your channel its growing very well, and as you know its not easy and takes a lot of time to put these videos together. I also wont be changing certainly not yet... I'm going to wait until the M1300GS comes out and then have a look. I did very much like it, its certainly much more flickable and nimble, and the tech is lovely especially the new screen and the radar. Yes, LOL we both are in the upper age range and I remember BMW telling me the average is 58, I think !!!. You have a slight disadvantage with all your speed restrictions at home, I remember them well. I think the big difference is when the speed increases the new bike is much more composed and stable, and its going to attract a new younger audience. How the current GS/A community responds... we will just have to wait and see. Next time your in Germany, we should meet for a beer... Kindest Regards Carl
@@justthewayitis Thanks. I’ve now got 3 days flying out of Gatwick to look forward with the incoming storm. Should be entertaining , if only I could video that and post it😂
Thank You. This is the best and most detailed comparison since I've been interested in the BMW R 1300 GS. I am currently starting my adventure with motorcycles. Maybe it's a crazy idea, but the first one will be the BMW R 1300 GS .🏍
Hello Lukasz, thank you for your feedback and I’m pleased you enjoyed this episode from the channel. I wish you lots of motorbike adventures in the future . Carl
Carl and I hope it’s not with a K, this is the first time I’ve seen one of your videos, but appreciate the detail and explanation you put into your review. It’s good to hear that BMW have made some great improvements to the bike, especially with the engine, gearbox, driveline and the technology. Unfortunately, I have a difficult time with the visuals, but maybe that will change as time passes.
Hi Jim, yes it’s Carl, and thank you for your feedback 👍. The new version does look different and better in person, and like the models before it …acceptance of a new style takes time. Although some may never fully like the new look. Regards Carl
I’m in the same boat. I had super sport bikes for years, sold the road bike before it went wrong but kept the track bike which did go wrong (a few times) but in the right place. I rode a 1200gs rallye in Spain for 4 days and really wanted to love it. The engine and brakes were amazing but if felt too bulky, heavy, wallowed in the corners to the point where I couldn’t love one -- this 1300 looks like the potential answer. I can’t wait to ride one. Superb overview BTW, an executive summary might help 😂
Thank you 🙏 I thought about summing things up at the end, but really I need to try the other variants as they will all feel different. Hopefully after I ride the others I will be in a better place to make my vote. Carl
Great review as always.. Having had 3x GS's and 4 GSA's since 2007 I can't get over the look of the new 1300GS, sorry!! I know beauty is in the eye and all that!! My wife thinks its ugly and looks like a generic adventure bike , she compared it to the NC750 for looks. and before anyone says about a woman not knowing anything, she's been riding and been around bikes for 43 years and still is !!!! ;) I need to be able to walk away from my bike, look back and think"thats mine" Don't think I can do that , yet!! i'll stay with 1250 ...keep up the good work.
Hi GOG, thank you for sharing and your wife is of course correct, 👍. The looks are splitting opinions throughout the GS community and only time will tell if BMW did the right thing. I agree, the turn around and look back at you bike at the petrol station….is a vital test We do need to think ( that’s my bike 😊) I could live with the looks but NOT the lack of function on the switch gear, the removal of the rear lamp assembly, plus the non adjustable seat. Kindest regards Carl
Great first review! I’ve already ordered one to replace my R1250GS, pending a test ride, but it looks a lot better (IMHO) and the adaptive ride height will make it feel a lot better for me (as a bit of a shortarse).
@@justthewayitis I’ve gone for the Tramontana, just because I love that colour and the spec. I’ll be replacing the rear comfort seat with the sports version, as fitted to the Trophy, as I don’t carry a passenger and it makes the bike look a lot sharper, similarly I’ll be deleting the luggage rack and just fitting the pannier rails. That may all change if I don’t enjoy my test ride of course!
@@justthewayitis Will do Carl, it’s not until 21st. I live in the Outer Hebrides and that’s the first date I can get across to the mainland to visit the dealer 🙄
Excellent review Carl - best yet - very comprehensive. Disappointing to see heater and suspension setting buttons disappear and be more complicated than necessary - need heating in Scotland !
Hi Andy, thank-you. yes your definitely going to need that seat and grip heating very soon up there. I think BMW could have put more effort into finding a different switch setup, and I have given them feedback. Carl
Thanks for an interesting review Carl, far more valuable than the many ( boring) first impression reviews on other channels. I note that for now you are not personally planning to switch to the 1300, having the same 1250 Raylle version as yours, I’m delighted to hear that as I am hoping for more great content on your current bike. Keep up the great work!
Hi Nigel, thank you for your feedback, yes i plan to continue with my 1250 Rallye and create more content, many other content creators are moving to the new 1300, which i do understand. But...I think there is still so much more to cover on the current 1250. I will however be covering the R1300GS in more detail once i receive another bike as the technology is extremely interesting and what BMW have achieved is quite amazing in such a compact package. They have been working on the 1300 for 5/6 years and this model is just the start of what's to come, I have no doubt that they are already working towards the next MKII version somewhere in Munich. I think the simplest way to some up my feelings is: if I did not currently own the 1250, I would not hesitate to buy the new R1300GS... it really is extremely good. Best wishes, carl
I know this is gonna be epic and the best review on RUclips. I will confess when this video popped up I had movement at the station. I think Crazy Carl needs a M 1000 XR
fantastic video. I have a Triumph Tiger 800 and have been considering the 1250 but after this video, I might bee looking at a 1300. But I do like the design of the 1250 more. The 1300 looks tame, like a Honda. Great video, thank you.
Hi Vince and welcome to the channel, thank you for your feedback, it’s probably the perfect time to go to your dealership and look and test both models and see which you prefer, because I would imagine there are going to be a lot of fully spec 1250 1 - 2 year old version being taken in part exchange and the dealership won’t want them hanging around, so it’s a great time to find an almost new low mileage 1250. But you might like all the technology and new dynamic feel of the new R1300 GS. Lucky you with such a choice Let me know what you decide to buy Regards Carl
Great vid as usual Karl I find your vids like many others easy to follow everything is explained in simple understandable terms thank you for your time, keep it on the stops 🙏
Glad I bought a 2023 model. I'm tall and any less legroom would be a major problem. I wish the rear suspension was smoother on my bike. I can feel every tiny crack in the road in my foot pegs. There is also an annoying tapping feeling in the foot pegs when accelerating from 20 to about 55 MPH. Of course the dealer says it's normal. I guess they are not trained or smart enough to do any troubleshooting except to change parts and charge astronomic amounts of money for it.
Thanks for the excellent review and attention to detail so lacking elsewhere. I'm a 2023 R1250R owner and of course very interested to know when the new drivetrain makes its way into other models!
Lucky you to get to play on the new GS, thanks for sharing. I'm very glad to hear they sorted out the gearbox. I own a 2020 R 1250 RS and the quick shift assist is really clunky. I use it quite a bit, but only upshift on gears 3rd and above and down shift 6 to 2. The other line up from BMW like the RR, XR and K1600, the quick shift is very smooth.
Yes it’s nice to finally see a nice improvement on the GS with the gearbox, actually quite a few other nice improvements too. I’m sure the R1300GS will arrive in North America soon. Thank you for sharing Kindest regards Carl
Great video Carl, never seen you so excitable! 😁 The new GS looks like a lot of fun to dial-in and ride (perhaps to own haha) I'm looking forward to swinging my leg over one!
Hi Rikky, your going to love the R1300R when it comes out, I bet on track with the slightly higher cylinders and stiffer suspension and more settings to play with, it will be a so much fun. Yes…. I was very impressed and excited 🙏👍 However, I will stay with my 1250 for a while yet Have a great weekend Kindest regards Carl
This is the kind of video and channel ive been looking for. Ive liked and subscribed! I almost bought my first 1250GS last year. I'm coming off of a Speed Triple and wanted to get into the adventure/tourer segment with a GS. I look forward to testing a 1300 - when I first got on the 1250 I felt like I've arrived at the bike I've always wanted. I am hopeful the 1300 feels that way too because the smoother gearbox and improved wind protection is important to me. Thanks for a great video - looking forward to the next.
Hello and welcome, thank you for subscribing. Do go and have a test ride, its an incredible motorbike and if your coming from the excellent Speed triple you will probably really like the new dynamic feel the 1300 has, over the 1250. Gearbox is a dream come true for us GS owners... Carl
I think that smaller, shorter, younger, non pillion carrying riders might be where the new GS is aiming for. I’ve not ridden it but I have sat on it and it feels considerably more compact. The seat options don’t look as 2 up comfort friendly either. Whilst I’ll certainly give it a test ride I think ill be keeping my 1250 and I suspect a lot of us 50 something 6 foot plus distance tourers will be. It will be interesting to see what the GS1400 brings us when it arrives
Very informative I have been toying with the 1250 v 1300 v Tiger 1200 and this is very informative. May hold out for the adventure spec. One thing missing from BMW website is a comparison between there models, that might be useful to show in a video
Very informative, especially about the driveshaft. Personally I prefer the look of the 1300, I'm not a 1250 owner, so I suppose I'm the target audience - the 1250 looks functional , the 1300 more integrated.
I got a new GSA triple black a couple of months ago, I really like the bike and for bigger riders its got excellent comfort and I love the road presence it has so I hope the new GSA when I comes out has the 30 litre tank and big bike demensions or I think I'll have a look at a 1200 triumph explorer!
@@justthewayitis hi,yeah it's going to be interesting, salesman at my BMW dealership said GSA version won't be in the showroom until 2025, maybe then if I like it, I'll trade-in 👍
Really enjoyed your comparison video 👏 Had a seat on 1300 GS at the dealership,it's a nice looking bike, alot of nice finishing touches, definitely alot slimmer, but hopefully the New GSA gets put on steroids too bulk up a bit😁
You are the only one talking about the practical aspects of the bike in the day to day, loke, how is the headlight performing compared to the old one, how is the wind protection, all things we need to know,we already know it was going to be better dynamically speaking, we don't need the big magazines journalists to tell us that! It will be awesome if you do a night ride to showcase the mysterious "mateix" led!
Hi, thank you for your feedback. I did test the new headlight at night on two separate evenings, more information to come in a later video. Best wishes carl
As a very happy R1250GS owner there are 2 things that are an absolute "no" for me as you have mentioned. The heated grip control, in North Western Europe easy access and control of this is essential, and rear lights. I am not going to spend £20k on a motorcycle to have to then buy and fit an aftermarket tail light kit.
Please tell your BMW dealer this, its the only way to make them listen. The more owners pass this onto BMW, the more chance they will fix / change it quickly Regards carl
Very nice video. Thanks. I do disagree with moving the on/off button to the handlebar. I'm not sure what purpose it serves and it takes space from a button you'd need to use more readily while moving.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to make this wonderful video. I really appreciate it. Lucid presentation. Question: Will the Nav 6 and Vario cases fit the 1300? Looking forward to your next videos. Thanks a lot.
The narrower seat might let you get your feet lower, but what about your sitting position on a long ride? Most of the time your legs are up, and a bit wider seat supports you better. So it's a compromise. (Somewhat similarly, a softer vs firmer seat: softer feels comfy when you first get on it and sit for 30 seconds, but what about after 6 hours of riding?)
Hi Peter, i understand what you say, and i think its just about trying to find the correct position that suits you, it took me a while to get my 1250 the way i like it and now 9+ hours a day is perfectly fine. Plus on the 1300 you can have the adjustable foot pegs which opens up the seat to peg space. Ultimately there is still a lot to learn about the new 1300 and its going to be a while before we know for sure about long distance comfort. Best Wishes Carl
@@justthewayitis Often best to skip the first year or two of a redesign. Let them work the inevitable bugs out. My preference is wait 5 years and then buy a used one from year 3ish
Great video! I currently own a 1250 Triple Black and just test rode the new 1300: wow! How can you improve the greatest?! Thanks again for the great video
Hi Rodrigo, and welcome to the channel 👍and thank you for your feedback. Yes it’s a great bike and BMW have made a big step forward. Glad you enjoyed the test ride. Regards Carl
Great video Carl I've had 2 test rides and now orderd one Agree about the lack of buttons for grips and sceen Damping not so worried as its automatically adusted Looking forward to the next part Mine arrives on March 1st John
Thank you for your time and effort putting this video together, very very informative 👍 I wasn’t going to part ways with my 1250, but now I’m intrigued 😊
I have a ‘15 GSA and while the 1250 was nice it just wasn’t nice enough for me to trade up. I’ll have to wait and see when they bring out the GSA1300. The big thing is mine still runs and rides like new with 60,000 miles on it. And it’s been paid for for a long time.
Having a bike that’s yours and paid for is a big plus, I think a lot of 1250 owners will pass, but like you say going from 1200 to 1300 is more attractive. Carl
Hi, I enjoy watching your videos and will continue to do so. Thank you for translating them into my native language, Bulgarian. please make a video comparing R1250gs with R1300gs Adv😊
thanks Carl. Finishing the configuration to place the order this week 😀. Still getting used to the aesthetic and prefer the 1250’s engine sound, but everything else sort of compensates. Cheers
Thanks for the review. I have the 1250. Never have I wished for more power or/and torque. As to handling, this has always been its forte and I've never had any complaints. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I personally don't like it. This bike I am sure will be a welcome for people who thought the 1250 was too physically large and heavy and younger riders who love more technology. The electric screen is one of the few additions that I find attractive. although with an aftermarket screen on my 1250 I'm very happy and to be honest, I rarely adjust it. Anyway, good review.
I agreed with many of your observations, the 1250 is really great and has more than enough power, Styling indeed does come down to the viewer, but it actually looks better up close than on the TV. Best wishes Carl
Thanks Carl, I’m actually looking for a screen to provide a bit more protection for cool or rainy days on my GS. I don’t really play with the screen much, it’s either up or down. The electric screen seems a bit much for a GS. However oddly I’m also planning to switch to road tires as my bike rarely sees dust let alone off road conditions. I was thinking Michelin Road 6, until I saw your comment on the Metzler Sportec M9. In previous posts you mentioned ride quality is noticeably smoother / quieter with road tires. Maybe I should just wait for the RT1300 😃 I too appreciate your reviews. I’ve watched your series on ESA & Ride Modes several times !
Hi Randy, currently i have the Metzeler Tourance Next 2, which are really good on my 1250GS, the M9 would be another choice but probably will wear out faster. Yes the RT, RS, R all to follow soon, i doubt 2024.... maybe 2025, but you never know Carl
Hi George, thank you for your feedback and I hope you enjoy your new R1300GS when it arrives 👍
Best wishes Carl
I have a second bike which is a K1200S, I love it and will keep it for as long as I can. Just bought an R1250 GS as my main bike.
Congratulations on your new GS, you will have lots of fun I’m sure. Best wishes Carl 👍
Nice combination, the forged wheels are the ones to have 👍 and the green does look very nice too. Hope you don’t have to wait too long.
Yes totally agree, Carl
Back light the controls and bring the buttons back. Don’t go the way of the cars
Agree, lets hope BMW listen and make some changes for the R1300GSA version, Carl
Amazing review of the new GS, you explained it very well mate, being an owner of a 1250 made you able to run a very accurate comparison and I could feel the joy in in your voice while explaining the new improvement like the gearbox and the quick shifter. Thanks for the informative video.
Hello and welcome
Glad you enjoyed it, and well spotted, I was certainly very impressed and tried not to be to "over excited" about it, I will keep my 1250 for now, but the 1300 is an amazing bike and if i didn't have my 2021/22 GS I would buy one in an instant... its that good.
Kind Regards
Carl
One of the reasons I bought and love my 2021 1250 GS Ralley is the “tough” look with the crash bars and headlight grill. Late 2019 I gained interest in buying a GS after a trip in Vietnam riding a duel sport throughout the North. I waited til 2021 (after the pandemic) to buy. So happy I did. I’m sure the 1300 GS is a great bike - but honestly I’m just so happy with my GS. I am 6’2” and it’s just a great fit .
Hi Sammy, a lot of owners agree with you. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Have a good week. Carl
Sitting there in your garage, that 1250 looks 100 times better.
A lot of owners are probably going to agree with you... smile
Carl
Aesop wrote a beautiful tale a long time ago.
It’s called “The fox and the grapes”. 😊
I agree. But I think it is due to the lack of crash bars etc…
That’s true mine does, but still it’s very different, Carl
Yeah it more sleek. But not in a better way. Kinda like and suv from 2010 to 2024
What an excellent and thorough review.
Details no one covers, like drive shaft angles and it’s benefits…fantastic. Great review, thank you (nice to have you back with BMW news).
Hi Bill, thank you for your feedback on this review, there is a lot more information to come.
Kindest regards Carl
BMW gives a lifetime warranty on the driveshaft on the 1250 GS. Not so with the 1300 GS, you get to pay to replace it every 60,000 KM, plus the 20k service intervals. Pretty expensive deal, if you ask me. Glad I bought the 2023 GS Trophy.
A lot of owners think the same and are pleased they have the 1250🙋🏻♂️
Best comparison on You Tube. Thanks for taking the time to film, edit and post. Great stuff. My 1250 will have to do for a bit longer.
Hi Woodster, thank you, and yes it does take time to put these episodes together. Just like you… my 1250 has a long road ahead of it, best wishes Carl
Have a great Sunday
Carl
Its that good
Thank you for your feedback, Carl
I have a 1250R. The quick shiftier is smooth and works well under acceleration, when one most needs it most, but it can lock on down change, but that does not bother me.
Thank you for sharing 🙋🏻♂️
@@justthewayitis Maybe it’s better tuned on the R. On the GS also it works best between 2nd and 4th gear when accelerating with high revs but overall not great. It’s more annoying when you test ride a bike that does it better lol
Lol, yes that right, when you use one that’s setup correctly and you go back to your own bike the difference is noticeable.
Best wishes Carl
The lack of a dominant brake/taillight assembly is a safety error. If I buy a 1300 I’ll be adding a pair of Clearwater Billi Brake Lights. The Clearwater Brake light is fantastic and has saved me from tailgaters. Their driving lights are also a must have. Thanks for the comprehensive review.
Hi Charles, your very welcome 🙏. And Yes totally agree about the lack of rear tail lamp assembly it’s a silly setup they have on the R1300GS.
Best wishes Carl
On my second set of Billies!!
Congratulations on the new GS, nice to hear your friend is one of the first to receive one. 👍.
They do look lovely don’t they 🙋🏻♂️.
Kind regards Carl
Side note.
Carl
The front comparison is smaller than the 1250, no one has shown that video shot, awesome review, thanks for sharing 👍🏽
Hi Pete, thanks for the feedback. Carl
I run the 1200 and been more than happy its my third, MPG is brilliant tempted to go 1250 too, wont go for a 1300 it wouldn't accept my panniers ha!
Well there's going to be lots of lovely R1250GS models on the market very soon.... smile
So sorry to hear you’ve been ill, love your reviews.
Hi Graham, I think maybe your comment is for Matt from the channel The Bike Show… Matt has indeed been through a very difficult time and our thoughts and prayers are with him, he’s shown incredible courage with this a very difficult illness.
Best wishes Carl
Brilliant video with the most comprehensive coverage with excellent explanation of everything. Thank you and well done!
Hi Sia, thank you 🙏 glad you enjoyed the episode.

Your videos are fantastic. As an owner of a new 2023 1250GS, the 2024 changes are very interesting. Thanks for the time spent making your videos.
Hi Sandbiker, thank you for your feedback and comments.
Kind regards Carl
Thanks for another well produced video, great information as always. It's refreshing to hear relevant opinions from an owner of the previous generation bike too, vs the standard spiel served up by professional journalists. My 1250 is less than a year old so I wont be looking at an upgrade any time soon, but I really enjoyed your content, as always. Cheers from .au
Thank you Doc, I also won’t be changing, I hope to have many more happy years on my 1250
Carl 🙋🏻♂️🙏
Excellent review Carl. Spot on comments. My number 1 ‘go to for your reviews and look forward to your continued R1300 reviews, tyres and or comparisons. Why? Your concentration on the less subjective and more objective issues put them apart from the main stream commentators. My garage now includes both the R1300GS and R1250GS.
Hi Rodney, thank you for your kind words, very much appreciated 👍. Lucky you to have both, are you enjoying the new 1300 ? And will you also keep the 1250?.
FYI the 2 year review goes up next week on Friday
Best wishes Carl
@@justthewayitisYes Carl, really enjoying the 1300. Still amazing me in all aspects of riding as I get use to the impressive dynamics of this bike. First service next week. The 1250 still a great bike and now looks like staying in the family with my son now returning to MC riding. Cheers, and looking forward to your ongoing greatly appreciated reviews.👌
Hi Rodney, I think your Son is going to be very happy, nice to hear you are enjoying the new GS 👍
Have a great summer

Im really looking forward to your next video, hopefully won’t have to wait much longer?
Hi Chris, thank you 🙏, sadly I had a cancel the second bike due to snow and ice which was disappointing, but it’s rebooked for January. Carl
Very great comparison from you. Many things that I noticed during the test drive...!
Hi Peter, thank you 🙏
It looks nimble and Badd Ass to me! I have owned a 2008 1200 GS and now a 2018 Rallye 1200 GS. at 64 years old this month, I will be upgrading to the 1300 sometime in 2024 or 25! GREAT unbiased review. Thank you!! Roger
Hi Roger, thank you 🙏
Fabulous commentary. I also salute you for taking the time for the detailed and informative review around the improvements and shortcomings. Bravo.
Thank you 🙏
Your very welcome
Carl
Great review. I'm pleased to have found this a sI have ordered a 1300, chopping in my 2019 1250. It was good to see that you can adjust the suspension as I felt that I would like to soften the ride back up in road mode, and you have shown me how to do it! Looking forward to part 2 and delivery in the next few weeks.
Congratulations 🙋🏻♂️ your going to have a fun of fun. And that sounds like a quick delivery date, lucky you 👍
This must be the best video I’ve seen so far on U tube about the new GS,well done👍
Thanks Eddy, have a nice Sunday, Carl

Most of the reviewers are just repeating like a parrot the specs and features. Thorough and Impressive review. Aprreciate your time and effort to make such an eloborate video.
Hi Sandy, thank you for your feedback. More to come "Hopefully"

Good review, nice to hear from a R1250GS owner. Many of us will be thinking of the move, so a balanced discussion is helpful. Thanks.
Hi RJ, thank you 🙏
Really impressed with the details and quality of your videos. Thank you
Hello Willem, Thankyou and welcome to the channel, it’s a shame the 3 days were very wet for this first test, but even so it was a lot of fun.

10:19 I’m delighted you mentioned the low position for Summer !! I live in Portugal and it’s really useful for me to have airflow in the Summer!
👍
Thank you for sharing your experience 👍
Carl
Thanks a lot. very nice detailed comparison between R1300GS and R1250GS. That will definitely ease my decision on which one to go for.
Happy to help
And here I am, looking at my 2013 R1200GS .. grandpa still got it :))
Indeed 👍
Have a great weekend
Thank you for sharing…
Regards Carl
Thanks Carl, a very helpful explanation of the changes to the GS. The new engine and gearbox sound amazing.
Hi Tony, thank you, I hope you get the opportunity to test one.
Carl
But best wishes to you
Regards Carl
The most beneficial comparison video between R1250&1300 gs. Thank you
Thank you,
This is the best comparison of the new GS model.
Christian
Your very welcome 🙏
totally agree with everything sayed!
Have fun, thank you for leaving a comment
Carl
Very tempting to move from my 1250 to the 1300 for many of the things that have been improved upon. However, I’m still loving my 2022 R1250GS and will see when the 1300 GSA version…and I’m guessing an M version comes out…before I make a change. Great video-I feel like you’re the kind of GS owner I identify with and value your point of view. Thanks for all the great content.
Hi Mike, thank you and I like you will be waiting to hear more about the M1300GS, I did ask my contact at BMW, he said No Reply lol, so guess we just have to wait
Kindest regards Carl
I actively decided not to talk about this in the first episode for 2 reasons
1: the video was already long and I felt it would be too much technical talk for a first review.
Thank you for sharing and your feedback very much appreciated
Kindest regards Carl
If the bike you are using gets broken they simply get you another one to ride.)
I hope BMW comes through with longer term test bikes for you. I very much look forward to your further in depth reviews of the 1300GS.
-Rocky
@@justthewayitis
Hi Rocky, good morning
I do agree that this new platform can be tailored to several completely different formats, and like you…the sports touring setup is indeed where I like to be.
My thoughts exactly, I do actually really look the new style and look.
Its very lovely to ride... Carl
We all see something different, to me the starfish headlight looks ridiculous and the plain block of cheap black plastic above hiding the forward sensor just as bad, then again you're not having to look at it while riding, on the plus side
Very true
I think a lot of the negativity is due to the fact that gs riders are dominated by aged (self included) riders who don’t like change and probably don’t need the enhanced handling or performance. Personally I welcome the the new and have sold my 2022 1250GSA 😊after 30k-‘m to get the new one - sadly it is a wait till early next year for Oz. Hope to put many k’s on it !
You highlight a very good point 👍🙋🏻♂️, and sorry to hear you have such a long wait.
Carl
Very insightful perspectives - thankful you would take time to provide this much information and insights. Thanks for your great work on this!
Hi Henry, thank you very much. Best wishes Carl
Thank you for your honest and precise review! great work by BMW with this new bike.
I think the "old" 1250 will still remain a great bike.
and it will remain my bike for many years to come.... 😊 Well done Carl!👍
Thank you !!
I think a lot of us are very happy with our current 1250 model.
Carl
Thanks for the review Carl.
I just bought a 1250 GS Triple Black (not GSA), because the price difference for the 1300 would have put me out of the market.
I appreciated your attention to the seat height etc, but at 188cm, it's not a problem for me.
What I do have a problem with (and yes, I have seen the videos on this topic) is getting the 1250 onto the centre stand. I'm sure it's just my technique that is flawed so I will persist and learn. I'm 60+ so that might have something to do with it! (LOL)
Otherwise, I am extremely happy with my 1250 and can't see me changing for quite a few years. I understand that some of this is related to ability, but I don't feel like working hard to control a bike)
Greetings from Australia!
Kindest Regards
Carl
@@justthewayitis Thanks. I’ve now got 3 days flying out of Gatwick to look forward with the incoming storm. Should be entertaining , if only I could video that and post it😂
Keep your 1250GS Triple Black. It's just stunning.
I love the new R1300GS. 😍 It’s the first time I’ve ever considered joining the GS family coming from sportsbikes and sports tourers.
Hello and welcome, it sound like a road test and a visit to your local dealer is due..... smile
Thank you 🙏
I thought about summing things up at the end, but really I need to try the other variants as they will all feel different.
Hopefully after I ride the others I will be in a better place to make my vote. Carl
I think from what you have said, you will like it a lot 👍🙋🏻♂️
I was only joking about the summary- top job! I’ll let you know how it goes with the test…
I agree, the turn around and look back at you bike at the petrol station….is a vital test
We do need to think ( that’s my bike 😊)
I could live with the looks but NOT the lack of function on the switch gear, the removal of the rear lamp assembly, plus the non adjustable seat.
Kindest regards Carl
Really insightful and well-thought-out presentation. Very useful for me as I have just ordered one!! Great work keep it coming, mate 👍
Hi Subman, you will have to come back and let us know what you think once it arrives
👍 Carl
First rate presentation Carl ... Bravo! Thanks ever so much.
Glad you enjoyed it, Carl
Great first review! I’ve already ordered one to replace my R1250GS, pending a test ride, but it looks a lot better (IMHO) and the adaptive ride height will make it feel a lot better for me (as a bit of a shortarse).
Hi Tim, then your going to love the easier way it allows you to get both feet flat on the floor.
Which model did you order ?
Carl
@@justthewayitis I’ve gone for the Tramontana, just because I love that colour and the spec. I’ll be replacing the rear comfort seat with the sports version, as fitted to the Trophy, as I don’t carry a passenger and it makes the bike look a lot sharper, similarly I’ll be deleting the luggage rack and just fitting the pannier rails. That may all change if I don’t enjoy my test ride of course!
Tim, do let me know if you like the test ride, and the Green looks beautiful in person, stunning looking colour
Carl
@@justthewayitis Will do Carl, it’s not until 21st. I live in the Outer Hebrides and that’s the first date I can get across to the mainland to visit the dealer 🙄
Have fun 😉
Excellent review Carl - best yet - very comprehensive. Disappointing to see heater and suspension setting buttons disappear and be more complicated than necessary - need heating in Scotland !
Hi Andy, thank-you. yes your definitely going to need that seat and grip heating very soon up there.
I think BMW could have put more effort into finding a different switch setup, and I have given them feedback.
Carl
Great to see a more comprehensive review as opposed to another “expert” critiquing based on an hour in the saddle. Good job!👍
Hi Guy, that make me smile, thank you
Well done, I really enjoyed your analysis and learned a lot from your blog. Thanks again
Hi Tristan, thank you 🙏 glad you enjoyed the episode.

Hi Carl. Best review I have viewed on RUclips. All the others seem to be much of a muchness. Thanks
Hi Slip, Thankyou for your feedback 🙋🏻♂️ Carl
I know this is gonna be epic and the best review on RUclips.
I will confess when this video popped up I had movement at the station.
I think Crazy Carl needs a M 1000 XR
LOL.... Hmmm M 1000 XR, I would lose my licence in a week....
But i am looking forward to the M1300GS
Carl
fantastic video.
Lucky you with such a choice
Let me know what you decide to buy
Regards Carl
Great vid as usual Karl I find your vids like many others easy to follow everything is explained in simple understandable terms thank you for your time, keep it on the stops 🙏
Thanks 👍 Kenny, much appreciated, Carl
Glad I bought a 2023 model. I'm tall and any less legroom would be a major problem.
I wish the rear suspension was smoother on my bike. I can feel every tiny crack in the road in my foot pegs. There is also an annoying tapping feeling in the foot pegs when accelerating from 20 to about 55 MPH.
Of course the dealer says it's normal. I guess they are not trained or smart enough to do any troubleshooting except to change parts and charge astronomic amounts of money for it.
Hi Andrew
Which tyres came fitted to your GS ?
And have you checked your tyre pressures 36/42 F/R I run 40 R.
Carl
Great review - can’t wait for part 2 !
Thank you 🙏
Great video Carl, I personally think the GS looks great, I have the triple black but yours also looks stunning. But as you say it's personal
Hi Mark thank you 🙏, don’t get me wrong I love my GS ❤️

Thanks for the excellent review and attention to detail so lacking elsewhere. I'm a 2023 R1250R owner and of course very interested to know when the new drivetrain makes its way into other models!
Hi LA, I’m also very interested in what the new R1300R is going to be like, if they have improved the seat / comfort I might change 🙋🏻♂️
Just subscribed to your channel and can only say what a great video, well done! 👍👍
Thank you Nelio, and thank you for your feedback 🙋🏻♂️, kind regards Carl
Thank you for sharing
Kindest regards Carl
Great video Carl, never seen you so excitable! 😁 The new GS looks like a lot of fun to dial-in and ride (perhaps to own haha) I'm looking forward to swinging my leg over one!
Hi Rikky, your going to love the R1300R when it comes out, I bet on track with the slightly higher cylinders and stiffer suspension and more settings to play with, it will be a so much fun.
Yes…. I was very impressed and excited 🙏👍
However, I will stay with my 1250 for a while yet
Have a great weekend
Kindest regards Carl
Hi Mark, agreed 👍 many of us will indeed be watching to see what happens with the GSA next year. Report back once you have had a test ride 😉
Carl
Very informative I have been toying with the 1250 v 1300 v Tiger 1200 and this is very informative. May hold out for the adventure spec. One thing missing from BMW website is a comparison between there models, that might be useful to show in a video
Hi Red, thank you 🙏 and thank you for your suggestion, the GSA next year will be very interesting 🙋🏻♂️
Carl
Very informative, especially about the driveshaft. Personally I prefer the look of the 1300, I'm not a 1250 owner, so I suppose I'm the target audience - the 1250 looks functional , the 1300 more integrated.
Hi Nick, thank you 🙏, beauty is in the eye of the beholder of course, but like you I like the new look 🙋🏻♂️
Hi Brian, yes lots of expectations for the GSA, next year 🙋🏻♂️
@@justthewayitis hi,yeah it's going to be interesting, salesman at my BMW dealership said GSA version won't be in the showroom until 2025, maybe then if I like it, I'll trade-in 👍
Really enjoyed your comparison video 👏
Had a seat on 1300 GS at the dealership,it's a nice looking bike, alot of nice finishing touches, definitely alot slimmer, but hopefully the New GSA gets put on steroids too bulk up a bit😁
That’s going to be a long wait 😔
It will be interesting to see if bmw listens to current owners feedback during the GSA development ?
The more owners pass this onto BMW, the more chance they will fix / change it quickly
Regards carl
Very nice video. Thanks. I do disagree with moving the on/off button to the handlebar. I'm not sure what purpose it serves and it takes space from a button you'd need to use more readily while moving.
Hi Paul, yes I think it was a mistake by BMW. My 1250 is much simpler to use while riding.
Carl
Thanks a lot for taking the time to make this wonderful video. I really appreciate it. Lucid presentation.
Question: Will the Nav 6 and Vario cases fit the 1300?
Looking forward to your next videos.
Thanks a lot.
Hello and thank you 🙏
Vario cases will not fit sadly.
But Navi 5/6 will and I tested my Navi 6 on the test bike.
Regards Carl
As expected Carl, comprehensive and educational. Thumbs up👍
I ll stay put with my 1250GS...at least for a year or two...
(Mine is exactly like yours)
Thank you, yes no change for me at the moment, i will wait and see how the new bike develops over time.

Often best to skip the first year or two of a redesign.
Let them work the inevitable bugs out.
My preference is wait 5 years and then buy a used one from year 3ish
That’s a great way to approach it, and great value by then.

Hi John, congratulations 🎉 March will arrive quickly and you have lots of time to plan a nice trip. Carl
Thank you for your time and effort putting this video together, very very informative 👍 I wasn’t going to part ways with my 1250, but now I’m intrigued 😊
Well at least you can test and try the new GS and have a think !!
Thank you for your feedback, regards Carl
I like the front of 1250 more but everything else is better for me on 1300 so I ended up ordering the latter. I love that it's smaller.
Hi Wattorok, yes the 1300 is a great bike, congratulations on your new GS 🙋🏻♂️ I wish you lots of happy miles.
Kind regards Carl
Great review Carl , looking forward to the next one 👍
Thank you..
Carl
Very good and most in detail video as always.
Thank-you,
Carl
Another awesome review Carl!!!!!
Hi Fred, Thank you !!!!
Hi, I enjoy watching your videos and will continue to do so. Thank you for translating them into my native language, Bulgarian. please make a video comparing R1250gs with R1300gs Adv😊
Thank you Andrey 🙏
EXCELLENT REVIEW. WILL FOLLOW EVERYTHING YOU PUT OUT ….👌👌👌
Thank you very much, kind Regards Carl
thanks Carl. Finishing the configuration to place the order this week 😀. Still getting used to the aesthetic and prefer the 1250’s engine sound, but everything else sort of compensates. Cheers
Your welcome 🙏
What aftermarket screen are you using. I’m consider changing out my 1250 GS as well. Tks
Hi Randy, in the summer I use a short one from an Italian company called WRS, they have them in different sizes and colours / tinted options.
Carl
Thanks Carl, I’m actually looking for a screen to provide a bit more protection for cool or rainy days on my GS. I don’t really play with the screen much, it’s either up or down. The electric screen seems a bit much for a GS. However oddly I’m also planning to switch to road tires as my bike rarely sees dust let alone off road conditions. I was thinking Michelin Road 6, until I saw your comment on the Metzler Sportec M9. In previous posts you mentioned ride quality is noticeably smoother / quieter with road tires.
Maybe I should just wait for the RT1300 😃
I too appreciate your reviews. I’ve watched your series on ESA & Ride Modes several times !
Hi Randy, currently i have the Metzeler Tourance Next 2, which are really good on my 1250GS, the M9 would be another choice but probably will wear out faster.
Yes the RT, RS, R all to follow soon, i doubt 2024.... maybe 2025, but you never know
Carl
After one days use I think the menu system works very well. If one understands how it works it’s easy and convenient
Good to hear you find it easy to use. 👍
Thanks Carl ! Great explanation of the new gs 👍
Hello Mark, thank you 🙏
