Great explanation, as always! Wish my dealer had known about the multiple advantages of the EVHA. If he'd asked whether I wanted the self-levelling suspension capability I would have said yes - instead I said no to EVHA because I didn't need the lowering ability.
Hi Chris, yes it’s a shame it not clear to new owners, I think the main problem is that if they had explained it to new buyers they probably would have said = wait … what, I need to pay extra for a feature (self levelling) that was standard on the old 1250 ! That’s probably why it’s not clear to everyone which is a shame and poor marketing. But the good news is you do have variable spring rate and DSA which are both brilliant Best wishes Carl
I hope it's OK if I reference this video in my 4-month owner review of my R1300GS. The way you explain the suspension is brilliant. I will be directing people to your video here.

What a great video! You are the best ! I have a 2024 R1300 TB in Brazil, over here we are having a lot of problems with the bike because of market regulations. The bikes in Brazil have a very week second and third gear. The response in acceleration is very poor making the bike very dangerous to urban use. Spoke to BMW and they just do not care.
Hi Flvb, thank you for the feedback, I would like to know more about this problem, could you send more information or perhaps a link to comments on a local forum about the problem you are having with the GS in Brazil ? Kind regards Carl

Thank you, for the detailed explanations with your videos. I owned the 1250 and recently traded it for the 1300 after a test ride. I am really ecstatic of what this bike does and feels like it impresses me every day. I will upload some content on it as I move along.

Absolutely brilliant video thank you, I took the 1300 out and was not happy with the suspension. I told the sales man this and he just said ow ok lol. So he must not have known about the adjustment you can make in the modes. Now I know this now I will revisit the 1300. Im still waiting for the GSA tho 👍
Many many waiting for the GSA, and this week BMW announced it might have an Auto gearbox as an option 👍 Have fun with your second road test 🙋🏻♂️. Carl
You’ll generally find the sales peoples’ skill set is about selling things rather than knowing much about them. The training they get goes through the basics but most are just trying to flog enough bikes to make their commission target. I’ve bought BMWs from 8 dealers around the midlands and southern UK and except for my current longer term relationship with my local dealer most purchases have been somewhere between indifferent and totally uninterested. I guess they still sell bucketloads so no need for customer service - but will it be like that forever?
You raise a good point, better training is required so that potential buyers understand the options and the benefits. Thank you for sharing your experience. Have a great weekend Carl 👍
I just love watching your video's, it is like motorbikes for Dummies. You explain everything so well and its so easy to understand. This was soooo informative. Many thanks
Hello Carl, another crystal clear video like Dynamic ESA explained. Thank you for your tremendous effort! However, I would very like to see a bit detailed clarification with fundamentals about suspension and some other things like for example, what is softer suspension means? how it works exactly? What are the physics behind that? BMW simplifed the meaing of words to amplify it to whole world, which is great but believe me, there are not much folks like you to explain clearly the fundamentals around the youtube world. Here in Turkey most BMW riders think min suspension preload means better for sporty rides which isn't. If there will be special content for who wants to support your channel, write me in first place. Unfortunately people don't get how important these fundamentals for riding safety.
Hello and thank you for your support and kind words. Your suggestion is good 👍 and perhaps in spring I will look into making a video explaining the basics to help owners that have misunderstood the basic principles of suspension and what adjustment are required for different situations and different types of riding. If I could ask you a small favour please, I have been uploading subtitles in various languages for a while now and Turkish 🇹🇷 is one of them, are they understandable and helpful?. As you say, MIN is not the preload setting to use for sporty riding, but there many factors that need to be taken into account and I can see some value in explaining this in more detail. Thank you for taking the time to send a message / suggestion 👍. I wish you a good week ahead. Kindest regards Carl
Wonderful clarity and smoothness in your presentation. The graphics are so very helpful. Your R1300GS series is the first that I've watched your channel. I'm in the USA, I'm so impressed, and I'm now a subscriber!!
Hi Kent, thank you 🙏 and thank you for subscribing to the channel, we are still a small channel but support is growing. Your feedback is much appreciated. Kindest regards Carl
Yup ..top info…I test rode one in early March and came away not that impressed I thought the suspension was awful ..went back a couple of weeks later with a smattering of info about the DSA adjustment ..and set it up -2 road and it was ace …get mine first week of June
Hi Carl, you are just so amazing! You share so much so important information we can nowhere else find. I have my GSA 1250 like 4 years now, but I just saw one of you video recently saying that the rain mode is the most convenient/plush suspension settings and you are so right! I use that mode since :) Thank you and keep doing your fantastic videos!
Thanks for your detailed and very useful video, I'd seen and read a number of comments from different people saying that the new bike seemed to be a bit firmer and lacking the loping "easy" ride feel that characterised the old bike. Evidently they had not tried the settings adjustments you highlighted. Like a few others I'm hanging fire to see what the GSA replacement turns out to be, and pretty happy with my 1250 anyway. I'll definitely be in a much better position to assess the 1300 though, off the back of this video, when I get around to test riding one .
Hi Stewart, thanks for sharing 👍, I think a lot of 1250 are waiting to see what the GSA is like and if BMW sort a few things out. Glad you enjoyed the video Best wishes Carl
Awesome Video… thank you.. 🙏.. the BMW Manual made no sense at all… I now know how to tune my new R1300 which I love !! Appreciate the time taken , great video.

😉, thank you Craig 🙏, I’m going to share my favourite suspension setting in video 4, I couldn’t use most of the video footage I took because of the speed 🫣 Greetings to your Wife 👍 Carl
@@justthewayitis You weapon! Dangerous Carl :) Forged Wheels is a must! Can I ask what is that leveling arm on the front spring on the 1250 GS. Does it adjust the front in preload Auto mode?
On the 1250 we only get self levelling on the rear which is fine, but the 1300 is dynamically much better My wife has agreed to be in the next video sharing her thoughts on passenger comfort, we have finished testing and filming which took all last weekend and 8 hours of switching between both bikes. Interesting results Carl
Hi Thomas, just remember you can now order the GSA with sport suspension + AVHC which is something that was not possible with the GS. I wish you lots of fun with your new GSA. Regards Carl
That's interesting Carl and thanks for sharing it. I ride in enduro mode sometimes on the road because I like the softer suspension, but I can't use cruise control in that mode. 1250 GSA. good feature on the new 1300
I didn’t know that 😉 about no cruise control in enduro mode. The 1250 is still more comfortable and in the next episode my wife shares your thoughts as a passenger . Have a great weekend 🙏 Carl
Hi John, that’s a great idea 💡 but the problem is filming it I would need two helpers who know how to use camera systems and several days to film it. But I have an ideal for episode 4 😉 Best wishes Carl
Hi Carl as I'm currently riding both my R1250GS Rallye and a R1300GS Trophy Enduro version back to back now for 9 months l found ur vid interesting. My 1300 has the taller Enduro package which suits my size and off ride riding too. With the higher bars suspension and the brilliant new lighter forged alloys this bikes a transformation both on and off road. I've fine tuned my suspension and also the throttle responsiveness of the 1300 in all modes again this works well especially for Enduro Pro mode a much softer throttle position helps you. Keep up the good work looking forward to ur next update. #caledonianbiker
Hi CB and good morning, thank you for your feedback on the channel and I’m delighted to hear your having great success on your new 1300 Trophy Enduro, it sounds like you have a great specification that suits your requirements. I’ve not managed yet to test a version with sports / tall suspension but I hope to later in the season and of course those lovely lightweight wheels. Thank you for sharing 👍 Kind regards Carl
Well explained as usual Carl.im still struggling with its looks, I don’t doubt its a superior machine to our 1250s but for me its lost its muscle , the old GS & especially the GSA just ooze / command the road .
Great explanation Carl, I'm looking forward to the new episode. The new suspension system is really interesting. Just one question for you, when will you order a new GS1300...🙂
Awesome video! Certainly in depth and comprehensive. I think it's a beautiful bike with some amazing features. Even though I have a '22 GS I still enjoy watching these. I do have a question. I have not seen any discussion about the finish on the engine and the frame? If you have content on this please direct me. Great job! Best!
Great question, well it’s certainly easy to keep clean and wash compared to our 1250 model, but only time will tell if the new finish holds up. I’ve seen some test models with quite a lot of wear marks up by the seat and leg area, so I would probably use a graphic or 3D gel sticker to protect that area. Thank you for the comments. Best wishes Carl
Hi Carl, very informative. Two questions: 1. One of the weaknesses of many electronic suspension systems is that the preload is set for a minimum weight that is typically around 80-85Kg for the rider. I’m a fair bit lighter than that and I get bounced around on many electronic suspension bikes, although the 1250 is one of the better bikes. You cannot manually set up static sag on electronic suspension as far as I am aware. Does the 1300GS address this? You’ve only mentioned adding weight via a pillion or heavier rider. 2) The forged wheels are lighter than spoked wheels but are they lighter than the regular cast wheels? I’ve not been able to find a conclusive answer. The 1300 seems like quite a piece of engineering but with that has come more complexity so your video has made quite a few things clearer.
Hi MH, thank you for your feedback 👍 Yes Forged wheels are lighter than the alloy ones but by how much I don’t have an exact figure. No manual adjustment is possible on the 1300, it might be better to get a pair of correctly weighted springs if your very light. But keep the variable spring activation so you can still add +20 stiffness if required. It’s hard for manufacturers to pitch a bike in terms of spring weight for all rider weights. The 1250 21 onwards can be manually set to minimum, which is a nice plus. Carl
Hi Alan, good afternoon, well it’s a lovely motorbike but jolly expensive by the time you add all the options. Dynamically it’s quite amazing which il will cover in episode 4 Carl 🙋🏻♂️
@@justthewayitis Yea a pal has bought the Triple black no luggage but most other bits, it's taking him a while to get comfortable on it he's suffering with a little back pain, that he never had on the 1250 I'm sure it's just muscle memory and will be good it time.
Hi Alan, what you say about muscle memory is true, but the seats are not great on the new 1300, in episode 3 ( up next week) it’s all about comfort and my wife and I spend 8 hours going between the new and old… conclusion is it’s the seats that are the problem. I’ve tried the standard comfort seat (not great) but the tall comfort seat might be better due to the extra foam. Suggest to your friend to try one “Without” the height adjustment lever underneath the seat. Their are two versions One that is adjustable One that s not Carl
Hi Carl, greetings from Australia! Thank you very much for the excellent and very informative video! As I understand, we cannot get the Adaptive Height Adjustment with the Sports Suspension option. Are all the other adjustments under Dynamic Suspension Adjustment the same on the sports suspension as the standard Suspension? Thank you.
Hi Pankaj, correct AVHC is not available if you want Sports Suspension. I believe DSA is standard if you have DSA and 7 ride modes even if you choose Sports Suspension. But suggest you call your dealership to confirm Carl
Cracking video - thx. I am picking up my triple black next Saturday so have watched this with great interest. I do like to change damping quite a lot and worry I will miss the simple suspension button on my current 1200 - will I be able to assign the rocker switch function to firm or soften up whatever mode I am in? Will it revert to factory default after the ignition has been switched off? I also wonder how a firmed up ‘road’ suspension feels in comparison to a softened ‘dynamic’ setting - I guess the additional spring rate will still make it feels different somehow. I’ll find out soon 😊. All the positive comments on your video abilities are bang on btw - really appreciate your efforts.
Hi Shawn, firstly congratulations on your new TB-GS, and yes you can assign the suspension change to the rocker button, it’s not as convenient as the older models but it works. You are going to have a lot of fun with your new bike and plenty to experiment with in terms of finding your perfect suspension settings 😉 Once set they stay in the memory so this is great news because you can have your ideal dynamic mode and something nice in Road mode that suits your riding style and road conditions. Thank you for your feedback on the channel and work I do for BMW owners. Kind regards Carl
Thank you Carl for this precious info! My question: Would I see a noticeable difference in my riding experience on my GS1250 if I switched my factory aluminium wheels to the new forged wheels (lower unsprung weight) supplied on the GS 1300? Is it worth the money? Thanks, Marc, Quebec,Canada 🇨🇦🏍😉
Hi Marc, sadly we will never know because the wheels on the new 1300 do not fit on the 1250, for example the front wheel spindal has increased in size / diameter, so it will not fit on the early models. I hope to test a GS with them and sports suspension later in the season. Have a great weekend, Carl
Would be interested to hear your comments on the sports suspension option. Is it better than the adaptive suspension in any way? What benefits if any are there to purchasing it?
Hi Simone, I’ve tried the 1250 with sports suspension and it’s great, more travel and better ride quality on the road. But I’ve not tried that option on the 1300 yet, I hope BMW will arrange one for review. But the official description is now it’s more Off-road focused. So I’m unsure! Carl
Hello Carl, your videos are very interesting thanks for it. I doubt between the Bmw GS1300 and the Multistrada Grant Tour to buy for. Can you do a video from the Multistrada GT to, or the difference between that motors. Many thanks.
Hi Stijin, both motorbikes are very very good, both are excellent choices. I would suggest you arrange a test ride on both and see which you like best. Either one is a very good motorbike the multistrada has more power and a more engaging dynamic ride, but poor fuel economy. The GS has less power but better as a touring bike and much better fuel economy. It depends on your riding experience and how fast you like to ride. Go for a test ride and see which one you like best. Kind regards Carl
Another difference with the forged wheels is that the rotor is fully floating vs. partial floating on the other wheel options. Already one report of squeaking rotor from this. Also have heard of a damaged forged wheel already.
@@justthewayitis Yea hard to know what to conclude about the one damaged wheel, but worth keeping an eye on. I sure enjoy the ease of cleaning my cast wheels on my 1200 but would definitely be interested in the forged option on the 1300, but not sure I want to hear squeaking rotor so may just stick with cast wheels again since I am not a dirt rider.
Note that these are not truly forged wheels... it is very misleading branding on BMW's part. They are technically hybrid- or cast-forged. Also, BMW states that they are not as off-road durable as the wire spoked wheels; they fall in between the normal cast and the spokes.
Hello, I would like to know, if the electronic adaptive suspension is installed, what are the heights of the standard saddle in each level min/max, thank you.
Hello, sorry i cant answer that question because their are so many different variations of model and seat all of which makes a slight difference. The best place to find the answer is to ask your local BVMW dealership. Kind Regards Carl
I have a 1300 gs coming soon with the sports suspension I run 3 up 95% of the time I am a spirted rider what suspension setting should I start on I prefer my suspension on the stiff side I was going to get the new 1300 GSA but with no weight saving on it I'm going down the GS route with the sports suspension
Hi James, good afternoon. It ultimately depends on your weight / combined weight on the GS, but from what you have shared I’d start with Dynamic suspension mode. Dynamic throttle mode. Within DSA settings move to +1. You can also go to +2 once you have got used to your new GS and feel you need a more firmer damping support. I wish you lots of fun on your new R1300GS. Kind regards Carl
Do your videos have adaptive height as well? Because they always seem to get to a higher level 😂. As always brilliant, Carl! I have ordered a 1300 last week and will take delivery in June. However, coming from a 1250GSA I found the 1300 to be a little bit on the small side and a bit low. I’m 1,87 but have relative long legs so I opted for the sports suspension option which, next to making the bike higher, should improve handling both on- and off-road according to BMW. That rules out the adaptive right hight option since they can’t be combined. Will it have the variable spring rate with the sport suspension?
Hi Michiel, I think you are correct and the sports suspension versions also have variable spring rate. Please come back and share what your bike is like. I have asked to review one with sports suspension but they have none within the press fleet. Shame. Have a great weekend 👍
@@justthewayitis You can use my bike for a comparison video once I get it. Germany isn't that far. It's that little country I pass through on my way to Austria...
Does the adaptive spring rate (the extra spring that comes in when needed) come with DSA? If you choose the dsa option then you have it? Wondering how to speck mine.
Hi Andrus, You would need to make sure you add AVHC to be able to enjoy the height adjustment of the suspension. It’s a brilliant system and works perfectly. Speak to your dealership to confirm you have exactly what you need. Have fun specifying your new GS. 👍 Kind regards Carl
So, feeling pretty dumb here but dialing up the suspension from -2 to + 2 in enduro mode should give me the maximum amount of off road suspension travel correct?
Hi Eric, good afternoon. So when you’re in the DSA adjustment area you are in fact not adjusting suspension travel but the Damping Control. By going from -2 to +2 you are firming up the damping, basically put.. making in firmer. While off-road you can experiment with this adjustment to find the perfect setting for the conditions you ride on. If it’s really rough terrain then +2 will offer more control. If it’s hard pack dirt roads -1 will be more comfortable. Hope this helps you Best wishes Carl 👍
I have never owned a bike with electronic suspension, but can you just put the 1250 on the high setting and put it on the center stand easier or that’s not an option?
Hi Frank, correct it still has variable spring rate if it’s got dynamic ESA and 7 ride modes, but AVHC brings the other benefits especially when riding off road. BMW technical office was only willing to disclose and share up to point… the system was developed by ZF. Also the spring rate control and AVHC are in fact two separate systems which are controlled independently. It’s a little sad that if we want auto self levelling which we had on the rear of the 1250, we now have to pay extra for it on the 1300.
In theory yes it’s similar but not exactly the same. I have not personally compared the two bikes side by side. Regular R1300GS with AVHC on high and R1300GS with sports suspension . Just bear in mind the new R1300GS MY25 is now available to order with BOTH AVHC + Sports suspension.
Hi Ran, while using AVHC you can choose via the menu the following: Auto or High in Eco,Rain,Road Auto or High in Dynamic, Dynamic pro Low or High in Enduro, Enduro pro Hope that helps 👍 Kind regards Carl
@justthewayitis the Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer I had previously was much maligned over its complicated screen setup but it was much easier to navigate. Your video did inspire me to spend more time figuring out the new GS and I did get it now. Still not intuitive for me but it's my first BMW. Hardly a deal breaker for a bike that is so fantastic otherwise!
Hi , luv your videos, I have a 1300te spec with all 7 ride modes, at 7:39 on your video it says in Dynamic or Dynamic Pro riding mode you can select Road suspension Mode, I have looked in the Dynamic Pro configuration screen and I can find no way to select Road Suspension, I have looked everywhere and cannot find how to do this, it was easy on my 1250 te :( , any ideas?
@@justthewayitis My wallet isn't empty, partly because my test ride was pretty short. It's a bit of a long story but the test ride I signed up for was delayed so they sent me out on an Enduro pack model, not the normal one and I didn't quite gel with it like I do with my current R1250RS. I was a bit surprised, but the 1300 engine didn't feel as smooth as my 1250, though my 1250 has 14k miles on it at this point. I'll definitely try another and maybe in a year I'll look for a very low mile used model. Thanks again for all the great content.
A question that's on my mind that maybe someone knowledgeable about suspensions could answer: As you decrease preload, for example for off-roading, in order to make the springs softer and the spring travel range larger (to allow for those expected bumps and holes), your bike also lowers the ride height. The latter means you are losing ground clearance. Aren't these two consequences (more suspension travel with less clearance) at odds with each other for the best off-roading setup? Wouldn't you want softer springs and HIGHER ground clearance? Conversely for sporty/dynamic riding, wouldn't you want the center of gravity lowered while stiffening the springs?
Hi Peter great question and welcome to the channel. Yes you are correct, this is why on the GS for example you can order your bike with the (sports) suspension option which has 20mm more travel allowing the spring to have its almost full range of movement while maintaining ground clearance. The other option is in most cases the more effective solution which is to go to a suspension specialist and have springs that are matched to your weight and riding style, many experienced off road riders do this. It achieves the correct amount of spring sag while maintaining ground clearance and allows the dampers to work in the most efficient way. Hope this helps Carl
@@justthewayitis Thanks Carl! Appreciate the personalized reply! Makes sense, however, what would happen if one were able to adjust the preload from the top end of the spring, rather than the bottom, as it is apparently done. One would then be shortening/stiffening it for "sporty riding," while reducing ground clearance, and vice versa for off-roading, which would seemingly couple those two phenomena in the desired direction, rather than putting them "at odds" as described above. It's obviously too simple of a "solution," as it we would have been doing it this way already, if it were this simple. (It would be essentially like more sag, but without the added weight or mass, just via the force of a screw. Obviously I am overlooking something crucial, but not sure what!) Of course these are all just "tweaks" - so maybe +/-10-20%, and if more is needed, you need a different shock/spring altogether, as you already explained.
Hi Peter, generally owners report a much better experience with having professionally matched springs (front + Rear) with their bigger adventure type bikes, mainly because of the wide variation in weight and regular load carrying requirements. I cant think of a motorbike or car that has spring preload adjustment at the bottom, nearly all have spring preload adjustment from the top. Spring preload adjustment is basically like squeezing the spring to increase the rating, its a compromise the moment you start to add preload. Plus the more spring preload you add the less suspension travel you have available to provide a comfortable ride. Have a great evening Regards Carl
All the gatekeepers and grandpas riding R1250GS are so mad about 17:50 feature, lol. I've heard that "you're not a real rider if you can't get your motorcycle on a center stand". Get a life

Greetings from Spain.
All cristal clear.
Impressive, the way you explain it all is just impressive, thank you, congrats for the content.
Hi Maxwell, thank you 🙏, glad you enjoyed the video, it’s a lovely motorbike.

Excellent, I bought the 1300 and you were right, I didn’t understand what the DSA was before! Thanks for sharing
Hi Paul, good morning. You are very welcome 🙏 and thank you for sharing 👍.
Wishing you lots of happy rides on your new GS.

Yup ..top info…I test rode one in early March and came away not that impressed I thought the suspension was awful ..went back a couple of weeks later with a smattering of info about the DSA adjustment ..and set it up -2 road and it was ace …get mine first week of June
Hi Gerry, yes the dealership could be better informed, and June is not far away 👍 not long to wait. Carl
A great explanation of how this rather complex system operates. Thank you. 👍
Hi DB, thank you 🙏, yes it’s not straightforward to understand for everyone.
Best wishes Carl
Thank you kind sir you make it so much easier to get understand over the salesperson I purchased it off👍

You are welcome 🙏
Have fun on your new GS
Cheers Carl
12:30 I agree … you did a good job of explaining the possibilities
Thanks Max
Hi Carl, you are just so amazing! You share so much so important information we can nowhere else find. I have my GSA 1250 like 4 years now, but I just saw one of you video recently saying that the rain mode is the most convenient/plush suspension settings and you are so right! I use that mode since :) Thank you and keep doing your fantastic videos!
Hi Zoltan, thank you 🙏 glad to hear you are enjoying the GS series a d having fun on your GSA. 👍 Carl
Hi Francisco, congratulations on your new R1300GS, glad to hear you are enjoying the channel and thank you for subscribing 👍, best wishes Carl
Glad you enjoyed the video

Awesome Video… thank you.. 🙏.. the BMW Manual made no sense at all… I now know how to tune my new R1300 which I love !! Appreciate the time taken , great video.
Hi Phill, you are very welcome 🙏, glad you enjoyed the video and best wishes with your new R1300GS. 🙋🏻♂️, Carl
@ cheers Carl… luckily after watching your video I had ticked all the right options …. Phew 😮💨… knew they were handy but no idea how much…. Must admit did a u-turn at the mountain cafe today and was surprised how mega sharp and easy it turned out… thanks again 🙏

Well done again Carl. Even helped me to understand the menu/flow of my 2021 GS. Thanks.
Hi Brian, many thanks 🙏
I know its gonna be an epic video! -2 on road and 0 on dynamic for me
Sharing now
😉, thank you Craig 🙏, I’m going to share my favourite suspension setting in video 4, I couldn’t use most of the video footage I took because of the speed 🫣

Have to agree! -2 for road & 0 on Dynamic for me too 👍🏍️🏁
Hi Chris, that’s going to be a common setup 👍, thanks for sharing 🙏, Carl
@@justthewayitis You weapon! Dangerous Carl :)
Forged Wheels is a must!
Can I ask what is that leveling arm on the front spring on the 1250 GS. Does it adjust the front in preload Auto mode?
On the 1250 we only get self levelling on the rear which is fine, but the 1300 is dynamically much better
My wife has agreed to be in the next video sharing her thoughts on passenger comfort, we have finished testing and filming which took all last weekend and 8 hours of switching between both bikes. Interesting results

Best review I have seen so far.
Thank you 🙏, that’s nice to hear you enjoyed the review.

Hi Carl, I very appreciate your capability of simple explain complex technical stuff. Good job!
Hi Thomas, thank you 🙏 I appreciate the feedback and glad you are enjoying the series.

Excellent video. Thank you so much. Planning to order the 1300 Avanture. This helps a lot.
Hi Thomas, just remember you can now order the GSA with sport suspension + AVHC which is something that was not possible with the GS.
I wish you lots of fun with your new GSA.

Have a great weekend 🙏
Carl
Try rain mode, it is very soft and cruise works.
Thanks for sharing 👍 this tip
Your videos are outstanding. Thank you for putting so much consideration into the content and presentation. Much appreciated.
Hi Ninteen, thank you 🙏. Another 2 episodes to come soon. Kind regards Carl

Hi SC, much appreciated, thank you 🙏 glad you are enjoying the series. Carl
Perfectly explained as normal.
Thank you Mark 🙏👍🙋🏻♂️
What a good explanation 👏you are the best !!!
Thanks Gary 👍
Will be nice to see some videos with the actual behavior of the bike for each mode. Specially for the Dynamic Pro with more power unlocked 😊
Hi John, that’s a great idea 💡 but the problem is filming it I would need two helpers who know how to use camera systems and several days to film it. But I have an ideal for episode 4 😉

Thank you for sharing 👍
Kind regards Carl
Well explained as usual Carl.im still struggling with its looks, I don’t doubt its a superior machine to our 1250s but for me its lost its muscle , the old GS & especially the GSA just ooze / command the road .
Yes, smile, the looks are not for everyone. The 1250 is going to be loved for many years. 👍
Brilliantly explained as always Carl, thank you.
Hi Tim, thank you 🙏
Great video as always Carl 👍
Hi Mila, thank you 🙏

Thanks for the explanations. Very much appreciated.
Hi Ahmad, thank you 🙏 you are welcome 👍
As usual, thanks a lot for the great explanation.
Hello Savas, thank you 👍
Great explanation Carl, I'm looking forward to the new episode. The new suspension system is really interesting. Just one question for you, when will you order a new GS1300...🙂
Hi Edward, thank you 🙏, I would love to order one, but I need to wait a few years, maybe the M1300GS might persuade me in 2025. 😉
@@justthewayitis Thank you Carl. Any ideas on what it is? Best!
Nope, but I'll try to find out 👍
thanks Carl Brilliant as always !
👍, glad you enjoyed it, Carl
Hi Carl, very informative. Two questions:
Hi MH, thank you for your feedback 👍
Yes Forged wheels are lighter than the alloy ones but by how much I don’t have an exact figure.
Carl
TBF most GS owners haven't got a clue . They just buy on hearsay instead of buying for a reason, yes I'm a Ex GS owner and do really like the 1300.
Hi Alan, good afternoon, well it’s a lovely motorbike but jolly expensive by the time you add all the options. Dynamically it’s quite amazing which il will cover in episode 4
Carl 🙋🏻♂️
Their are two versions
One that is adjustable
One that s not
Carl
Hi Carl, greetings from Australia! Thank you very much for the excellent and very informative video! As I understand, we cannot get the Adaptive Height Adjustment with the Sports Suspension option. Are all the other adjustments under Dynamic Suspension Adjustment the same on the sports suspension as the standard Suspension? Thank you.
Hi Pankaj, correct AVHC is not available if you want Sports Suspension.
I believe DSA is standard if you have DSA and 7 ride modes even if you choose Sports Suspension.
But suggest you call your dealership to confirm
Carl
amazing explanation , thank you so much for this video
Your very welcome 🙏
You are going to have a lot of fun with your new bike and plenty to experiment with in terms of finding your perfect suspension settings 😉
Once set they stay in the memory so this is great news because you can have your ideal dynamic mode and something nice in Road mode that suits your riding style and road conditions.
Thank you for your feedback on the channel and work I do for BMW owners.
Kind regards Carl
Ps, don’t forget to check out the Weiser Technik wizard modules that improves rear indicator functionality and performance. 👍
Marc, When you purchase a new bike, it’s definitely worth the money ! 👍🏼
Great video as always!
Thank you Bruce 👍
Also on the forged wheels the rotors are floating not fixed solid to the wheel, great channel looking forward to taking delivery of mine soon
Hi Geoff, thank you for that extra bit of information 🙏, hopefully you won’t have to wait long for your new GS to arrive. 👍

@@justthewayitis thanks Karl, it’s only a week or so away now. , thanks for the reply 🤘🏻
Well i know it’s exciting waiting for arrival day 🙋🏻♂️

This is a great video. I like this motocycle but the noise of the engine is a no go for me, I think I would never be comfortable with it.
Hi Marc, the later production versions are quieter 🙋🏻♂️, from April 2024 build date.
Love it great video
Thank you John 🙏
Another difference with the forged wheels is that the rotor is fully floating vs. partial floating on the other wheel options. Already one report of squeaking rotor from this. Also have heard of a damaged forged wheel already.
Hi Eric, I had heard about squeaky issues but not about damage. Thanks for letting me know 👍 much appreciated
Carl
Thank you for the extra information 👍
I have the forged wheels, utterly superb. I strongly recommend them.
I have a 1300 gs coming soon with the sports suspension
I run 3 up 95% of the time
I am a spirted rider what suspension setting should I start on
I prefer my suspension on the stiff side
I was going to get the new 1300 GSA but with no weight saving on it I'm going down the GS route with the sports suspension
It's that little country I pass through on my way to Austria...
lol, thank you for your offer, I might just accept 😉🙋🏻♂️
Would you even recommend the adaptive ride height for people that don’t need the lowering function?
Yes, because of the additional benefits it brings. Definitely worth adding. 👍
Brilliant video 😄👍
Thank you 🙏
Does the adaptive spring rate (the extra spring that comes in when needed) come with DSA? If you choose the dsa option then you have it? Wondering how to speck mine.
Hi Andrus, You would need to make sure you add AVHC to be able to enjoy the height adjustment of the suspension. It’s a brilliant system and works perfectly. Speak to your dealership to confirm you have exactly what you need.
Have fun specifying your new GS. 👍
Kind regards Carl
Hope this helps you
Best wishes Carl 👍
I have never owned a bike with electronic suspension, but can you just put the 1250 on the high setting and put it on the center stand easier or that’s not an option?
Yes, with the R1250GS/A and with the rear preload set to MAX its easier to put on the centre stand 👍
Kind Regards Carl
Hi the links aren’t working. Great bike by the way .👍
Hi Simon, I've just added the links.... you have three options. If you have a question just ask or send me an email... kind regards Carl
Not sure about that 3rd benefit of height reduction as even without that option the bike still has the dual spring rate so surely would be same?
Hi Frank, correct it still has variable spring rate if it’s got dynamic ESA and 7 ride modes, but AVHC brings the other benefits especially when riding off road. BMW technical office was only willing to disclose and share up to point… the system was developed by ZF.
Also the spring rate control and AVHC are in fact two separate systems which are controlled independently. It’s a little sad that if we want auto self levelling which we had on the rear of the 1250, we now have to pay extra for it on the 1300.
So if i buy a bike without avhc i dont get adaptive ride height?
Hi Anders, you will still have self levelling as standard but no adjustment. AVHC is worth adding in my opinion.
Have a great weekend
Carl
Whether to go for low seat option or choose ARH? Confused after seeing many failed hydraulic pump issues with ARH. I’m 167 cm with 30” inseam.
Definitely go for AVHC it makes live so much easier 👍 and your 30” inseam will be perfect
@@justthewayitisthank you
You are very welcome
Is the active height control on high setting is the same as the sport suspension with regards to clearance?
Thanks
In theory yes it’s similar but not exactly the same.
I have not personally compared the two bikes side by side. Regular R1300GS with AVHC on high and R1300GS with sports suspension .
Just bear in mind the new R1300GS MY25 is now available to order with BOTH AVHC + Sports suspension.
Only 1 question Carl, do you have the winning Eurolotto numbers please? N from sunny W
lol, if only we did….
And yes it’s jolly expensive 🫣
Can I adjust the height of the 1300 to the maximum while it is on the softest phase? Or is it a contradiction?
Hi Ran, while using AVHC you can choose via the menu the following:
Auto or High in Eco,Rain,Road
Auto or High in Dynamic, Dynamic pro
Low or High in Enduro, Enduro pro
Hope that helps 👍
Kind regards Carl
@@justthewayitisso if we set to either high or low, the bike won’t drop lower on standstill ?
I still can't figure out how to switch the 3 ride modes that you setup on the button. Or how to get into the pro modes and do adjustments in there.
You are not the only one, many owners find the new menu hard to use as it’s not very intuitive.
Carl 👍
@justthewayitis the Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer I had previously was much maligned over its complicated screen setup but it was much easier to navigate. Your video did inspire me to spend more time figuring out the new GS and I did get it now. Still not intuitive for me but it's my first BMW. Hardly a deal breaker for a bike that is so fantastic otherwise!
Good for you having a go, I know it’s not very intuitive to use, so well done for spending time exploring. 🙋🏻♂️, Carl
I find it very difficult for there to be a buyer of a gs1300 who does not know what the DSA that replaced the ESA is.
DOH!, found it, its in the Hamburger menu :)
Hi Pete, looks like you found the solution before I could reply 🙏

Can we set it to either auto or high/low seat height manually?
Yes correct you can choose 🙋🏻♂️ having AVHC auto or high
@@justthewayitisthank you
I'm going to test ride an R1300GS tomorrow. This video is dangerous to my wallet.
Well let me know what you think of your test ride today , and is your wallet empty 🙋🏻♂️

Something to share, Carl
How to make exhaust blue color like that
Just use the full rev range and give it some full throttle action 👍
That 1300 looks tiny next to the 1250.
Yes it does 🫣
A question that's on my mind that maybe someone knowledgeable about suspensions could answer: As you decrease preload, for example for off-roading, in order to make the springs softer and the spring travel range larger (to allow for those expected bumps and holes), your bike also lowers the ride height.
Hope this helps
Carl
Obviously I am overlooking something crucial, but not sure what!)
Of course these are all just "tweaks" - so maybe +/-10-20%, and if more is needed, you need a different shock/spring altogether, as you already explained.
Have a great evening
Regards Carl
@@justthewayitis Thanks Carl, I'm quite happy with my stock suspension. Was more of a theoretical "what if" question. Cheers! And thanks!
