I’ve already been through this decision and after a few weeks of mulling the decision over - I bought the R1250GSA. It boiled down to I wanted something unique, the 1300 is modern yes, but has blended in with the others. Zeus has stepped down from his throne to mingle with the lesser gods.
Love reading these comments. I’ve had the 1150 gsa and 1200 gsa - it’s been a few years since I sold the 1200. In the market for a GS now and pondering either new/used 22/23’ 1250GS or hand on for the 1300. $$ wise I think the 1250 is the way to go - and it’s going to be an upgrade from my 1200GSA (although they’ve all gained weight since 09’). I’m coming around to the fact that although the 1300 may be a slight improvement performance wise, the 1250 is tried and true and might be less worry in terms of reliability (and still give me a performance boost!). Decisions, decisions. Lots of 22/23 used GS’es out there and still some nice new 23’s to be had. I’d be looking at $5k+ savings and still get a Brilliant bike (well supported in the aftermarket accessory space too) Keep the comments coming!😊
Been prepared for GS for 3 years when had first test ride . Had nice feeling (so comfy, nice to ride )and had another ride after year still nice but bit to big for me. I’m 172cm high . Soon 1300 GS comes out booked test ride at Oxford. 1300 mark all me boxes. Was sceptical about X head lump when seen on picture and videos..... When I saw in real Tramontana version just fell in love. In 4 weeks time I’m going to be owner with fully loaded Green GS.
A very interesting take of the difference between the two bikes. For me, the critical factor is knee angle. I have a 1250 and have only sat on the 1300. I have a high seat and lowered pegs on my bike and the 1300 felt much more cramped. To be honest, it put me off the bike. I have quite long legs and fell that the 1300 would not be comfortable enough for me on a long ride. I do like the look of the new bike and I’m told that the wind protection is much better. As far and as brakes and power are concerned, I have enough on my 1250 and really don’t need any more. I hope that the rumoured 1400 might fix the comfort problem and still have the comfort I am used to. We will see! Cheers. C
Thanks for sharing! I do actually wonder about "measureable" differences in sitting position on these two. Not sure how to measure it though. But in general the 1300 just looks smaller without necessarily feeling lighter when riding. Let's see what the Adventure version brings if it comes - perhaps this will be the perfect solution to all of our initial feedback. All the best!
I’m actually looking at a 1250GS adventure ex-demo. When I test ride it, if it ticks the boxes, I’m grabbing it. It’s a lot cheaper than the incoming 1300GS.
Where I live, the difference in base price is smaller than I would expect. It's actually much less of a raise than for example for an unchanged KTM 1290 Super Adventure which is ridiculous.
The only reason is that I think my bike looks more like it should regards how a adventure bike should look. I’m afraid the new one looks (with my eyes) to bulky. I can agree that it’s possible that the new bike is a better bike with the new technology but as a wise man one time said! Don’t buy the first one and don’t buy the last one! Buy something in the middle! I would wait to see how the marked responses!👍

Excellent comparison of the 2 bikes; especially, the so called XFactor, which is really important when considering that motorcycling is very much a passion and feelings play a major role. As owner of a Triple Black 2021 , I do prefer the brutal looks , and the confidence inspiring handling along with this protective feeling of having this bulk around me. Thanks for sharing, Jim. I also believe that X Factor may be the most important aspect at the end of the day. If it's supposed to be fun, this cannot be overlooked. About the tail lamp, I'm curious to see if there will be some aftermarket design kits that would allow us for changing the looks of the new 1300 in a major way. This may be a solution to many complaints that we are seeing about this new generation. All the best!

Alright, no new, currently available large adventure motorcycle. So yeah, I've got no reason to praise what I personally own here. My last publicly shown motorcycle was a Suzuki V-Strom 1000 from 2006 which I kept for 10 years from 2009 to 2019.

Maybe this is then what M 1300 GS was intended for? That would also make sense. However, "R" at the beginning is reserved for boxer-powered BMW motorcycles, so this theoretically should stay. Then R 1300 XR perhaps? Not bad of a path and there would be a whole different set of expectations then instead of getting into a really, really competent GS's shoes, just being shorter and with thinner bones.
Thanks, I appreciate it! Your RUclips nickname seems similar to an account that I remember from one of the motorcycle forums from a long time ago. That's a V-Strom forum so maybe, maybe! Or maybe not... :)
I comptemlated the GS model for over 5 years. Too stodgy and spongy for my tastes and riding style. The new R 1300 GS changed all that, and as a new BMW owner I couldn’t be more pleased and impressed with this machine. Change is hard, I get that, but after 3 weeks and 1000 miles, this seems better than its predecessor in every single way. Including the functionality of the headlight.
I will choose r1300 after test but I bought r1250gs adventure only due to amazing deal in Scotland- £199 per month zero deposit and 2.9%APR. both are good bikes.
It's crazy how the reviews vary. For some they are literally screaming about how awesome the power improvement is and the bike handles so light and nimble it's like a middleweight and then your review which says, meh, not much different. It would be curious to see both bikes on a scale, I'm not buying much of a weight savings.
After buying the 1250 GSA 5 months ago i wasn't interested at all with the launch of the 1300..but out of curiosity while mine was getting serviced i had the chance on the new one. And to be honest much prefer the 1250 , confirming i made the correct choice for me, a much more substantial bike, not focused on trying to loose weight or fit into the crowd aesthetically. But as always, everyone has their own personal view.
Good video. I had the 1250GS for a while and it does handle fantastically. You are correct when you say that pyschologically we want a newer product to feel better but it isn't always the case, but the biais is there in our minds. I haven't tried the 1300 but it's probably pretty close and it may come down to looks or minor personal preferences at the the end of the day for most riders.
I'd be very curious to learn what blind tests would reveal, if we were put on these two not knowing which one is which one and then were asked. Man, what awesome way of testing this would be.
I own a K1600 GTL but will be moving to a GS as soon as the dust settles. I'm leaning towards staying with the 1250 lineage. The 1300 moved towards a more generic profile.
Maybe for emotional reasons I'm still not convinced with the 1300 GS. I recognize that it was a bold and risky change, with advantages in the dynamic aspect, but with an ordinary result in the aesthetic aspect.
fair ..but my overall concern is the all day comfort of the 1250gs ...the only reason I'm not buying one just yet is that the value of my current 1250 gs has plummeted and I'm finding it hard to swallow ..
Question is.. would you still choose the new GS over the new Tiger 1200? 🤔 Because I have to say, I preferred the Tiger 1200 over the 1250 due to the Tiger being much more dynamic and fun to ride.. is that still the same case?
@@VToldsMotoShow Looks isn’t everything 😏 I was cross shopping the GS and Tiger last summer.. I really get what people love about the GS.. Unbeatable balance.. It was hilariously easy to ride.. It’s so hilariously easy that I really found it boring.. It’s the perfect tool but it doesn’t trigger any emotions in me.. Then I rode the Tiger 1200 and I actually prefer it over the GS.. It doesn’t have the same stability, the same balance and it doesn’t feel as light as the GS.. But the engine was much more exciting, better sound and its imperfections made it more loveable to me.. it felt quicker but most importantly - the GS-boxer has the characteristics of a diesel.. Plenty of low end torque but it falls dead approaching 6-7000rpm.. It has so much low end grunt that the gears felt short.. And the “quick shifter” should be renamed “whiplash shifter”.. The Tiger has more of a traditional power band giving you more the higher you rev.. In short - if you’re looking for the best tool, the GS is your pick.. If you’re looking for a GS but with a bit more soul and character, you should give the Tiger a try because I’m grabbing one for the 2024 season.
Hi, I test rode the 1300GS and didn't get on with it at all. Engine sounds like a wedding car towing tin cans behind it. Quick shifter was horrid, the tank even though it had only 500 miles on it was scratched to hell and stickers was peeling. I took out a r1250 GSA trophy straight after and bought it on the spot, it's a beautiful bike.
I consider myself very lucky to get one of the last incarnations of the 1250. My next bike i will have to look elsewhere. I love my new bike; I didn’t feel like that towards the 1300. Such a shame as id waited so long for it to come out. Other people rave about it, bike ownership is a personal thing and spending such a large amount on a bike you have to go with your heart.
I don't like how they make him smaller and i won't change my 1200lc for this. I will wait to se adventure model and if that one be smaller too i will change make. I'am sure that handling and engine of 1300 is great but in my opinion they just made XR with shaft and boxer. It looks nice and that light is nice to, but size is deal breaker for me.
When you read the comments here you can see that all the customers bought their 1250 GS for one reason and one reason only 🤣🤣 for the looks and size. There is nothing more in there... comparing to Multistrada V4 or even a Tiger 1200 or Super Adventure S 1290. Because now when the BMW offer them, in many ways, far better bike, they say no way. 😀 But a year before when you asked them "Why GS?" the answer was "Because it is the best" 😂😂 It was just bigger and better looking. As it turns out now, it's not the best it'a just huge (bigger) and better looking but you can not say that to a motor enthusiast when he/she ask you for a reason. 😀 People riding 1250GS are "special" (they want to be different) so they'll keep the price (market) on 1250GS for some time but after that 95% will sell because no one likes to lose money. 😀
Best Suzuki ever. Is it a joint venture witb BMW? No doubt the bike has more tech on it and the gearbox seems much better but 1250GSA has a strong personality. Hard to compete with it.
On "paper" - despite there being no actual paper about most of the things presented - R 1300 GS I think needs to sit on top. The 1250 feels to me lighter to handle at low speeds while being more encouraging to turn at high speeds but of course this is also subjective. However, this new 1300 feels to me more like other motorcycles in the segment while the 1250 seems really different in the way it handles. I really wonder why it's this way.
@VToldsMotoShow I believe you could have a bikes feel as a category on paper but it's hard to judge that category. Maybe helpful data to explain that different feel would be how the weight of the 1300 is distributed vs the 1250. If you lost 26 lbs and it's mostly in the area of the engine/transmission you may feel the loss of the counterbalancing effect the older block had. Especially at low speeds. I have a 1250 with no plans to go to a 1300, at least until I see the gsa version. But I do believe the 1300 is a mostly good evolution of the GS platform.
@@dnbanb - it might be 26 lbs. lighter overall but it moved the transmission UNDER the engine - thus raising the engine mass. Center of gravity was changed. How that affects handling is why I read all these reviews.
I truly disliked the r1300gs , I have a 2022 r1250gs rally, with every available package and option. A test ride and deep dive on the r1300gs Trophy, and I'm sold. It's the future, its gorgeous. I will ditch the electric locking Vario panniers and buy after market aluminum panniers and brackets.
GS owners and fans are ageing and BMW takes cares of them to make it easier for them to ride up to they are 90 years old if necessary via lots of electronics like the central stand and making more compact bikes…. I wonder if the forthcoming 1400 Adventure will come with 4 wheels 😂
Hands down my 1250 GSA is a keeper. The new one is absolutely a gem from an engineering point of view, but it lokks lame, and the headlight is hideous.
I much prefer the 1250GSA to the new 1300. I did a 1300 test ride and I really didn’t like it. The KTM and Triumph tiger are far better bikes than the new 1300. I just hope the new GSA doesn’t follow the GS otherwise it’s bye bye BMW.!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed about the new Adventure being of a different style than the regular 1300 as BMW has a huge opportunity here in my opinion. The regular 1300 can already be raised with a Sport suspension option, so if they'd make the ADV an alternative to this compact GS, they'd be able to now cover the whole segment nicely. On the other hand, after we all say spy shots and a strange shape of the 1300's face, they still launched it this way, so the hope may be for nothing too.
When a BMW tries to do a Ducati…. Is what the new 1300 is….. I don’t like it looks wise( though it’s a superb bike still), I am sure there are many out there like me 😅
Sorry, the 1300 has no road presence. In SA we ride between taxis and smaller bikes have no place I will stick to my old bikes. Not getting this bike now or in the future.
after over 20yrs, BMW finally got rid of the fugly headlights on the GS.. that one reason alone is good enough over the 1250.. but i'll never get a GS just bcos they kept the fugly headlights for so long.. hahaha.. so many other better choices now with Ducati / KTM / Triumph / etc.
Except the alternatives are clearly NOT better than the BMW GS. How many HUNDREDS of reviews to you need to read where BMW GS comes out as #1 to be convinced?
It really depends on what one values. I’d get a KTM 1290 Super Adventure R instead of it. This bike doesn’t turn at higher speeds but the power, low speed balance and sound of a V2 convince me more than anything in a BMW can - but again: just because my own preferences and what I value more. I’m aware that a GS is a more complete motorcycle, I just don’t care much.
1250 GS is still very-very relevant... It's the same old story for the 1300 GS...story recycled again and again whenever a new model is produced. And i really hate those motoring journalists...who quickly shifted camp for reason we all know too well.😂😂😂.
10 years have passed for the 1250's design that initially was introduced as R 1200 GS and only had some minor things changed along the way so a vast change is understandable but... yeah... there's that "but" that I'm seeing as for the direction of many BMW "products" nowadays.
@@VToldsMotoShow oh fuck, you're right, Euro5 emission standards killed it along with the FJR1300... the two bikes that I loved and thought about to get a new one at some point not just used once all the time... I hope that other manufacturers will bring more shaft driven bikes to the market. Happy New Year!
It seems like there's a pattern here. But somehow I don't see the similarities. Maybe it's because I've seen the R 1300 GS in real life and keep that image in my head.
I will never buy a bike when you have to buy a new driveshaft every 80.000 km (official source) to prevent it to get broken and cause safety problems. This is ridicoulous and reasonable only in the disthopic bmw-world!!! 😮😮😮
So it’s the second time I’m hearing about it… I now checked myself and it appears to be a true rumor with an approx. 1000€ replacement at 80k km. I guess I’ve got to change my narrative of BMW’s driveshafts being maintenance-free. Now they’ve become just like a chain, just 10x more expensive to replace. Or considering the intervals, it’s rather 2x to 3x more expensive. I wonder whether it’s not better to just ride until failure as what’s the difference if the whole thing lands in trash…
This a tricky one indeed - I agree. In terms of market value, the "old" doesn't make sense but again, there are instances when an outgoing model still stays in people's hearts while the new one gets a cold welcome.
Simple.... I don't want to be a Beta Tester for BMW for the 1st 3 years of production, with my bike in their shop, while they fix and debug all the gremlins and problems that comes with anything german in cars or motorcycles. Been there, done that. No more.

I'd be very curious to learn what blind tests would reveal, if we were put on these two not knowing which one is which one and then were asked. Man, what awesome way of testing this would be.
@@VToldsMotoShow yes, you just need to find a blind person who can ride 🤣 but I'd be interested to see that too👍
I own a K1600 GTL but will be moving to a GS as soon as the dust settles. I'm leaning towards staying with the 1250 lineage. The 1300 moved towards a more generic profile.
For me it’s the 1250 GSA. No matter how improved the new GS is.
The 1300 looks like a backyard special
The 1250 does as well to be fair...but a bit less so
Let's meet in summer and have a beer. Respect.
Maybe for emotional reasons I'm still not convinced with the 1300 GS.
I recognize that it was a bold and risky change, with advantages in the dynamic aspect, but with an ordinary result in the aesthetic aspect.
That's a diplomatic way of putting it and I like it. Let's keep our fingers crossed for an Adventure version if it's about to come.
The BMW being attended by the mobile rescue van in Rye East Sussex UK today was an R1250GS
Surely the rider was so much into riding and enjoying the bike that they simply run out of fuel ;)
fair ..but my overall concern is the all day comfort of the 1250gs ...the only reason I'm not buying one just yet is that the value of my current 1250 gs has plummeted and I'm finding it hard to swallow ..
Gone are the days when only a few have the gs. Now every starbucks has 2-3 parked outside at any given moment.
Question is.. would you still choose the new GS over the new Tiger 1200? 🤔 Because I have to say, I preferred the Tiger 1200 over the 1250 due to the Tiger being much more dynamic and fun to ride.. is that still the same case?
I was in the queue to trade in our 1250 GSA's for our new Tiger 1200's. Love my Tiger.
If I were to choose right here right now, likely yes, I would go with the 1300 and just keep my eyes closed at all times ;)
R1300GS 👍😍
Aaaand a point for the newcomer then ;)
Hi, I test rode the 1300GS and didn't get on with it at all.
Good one about the sound. Clearly there must be something about it.
Similar story, took the 1250 GS Adventure Trophy for a test ride, and came back, and bought it on the spot.
Just wondering why no RUclipsr has tested and compared the headlights between the 1250 vs 1300…
I don't think that there's a reason for not comparing the headlights but rather believe that it's simply quite far on the list of stuff to present.
R 1300 XR as we've come up with somewhere. I'm also counting very much on an Adventure version if it comes in the future.
People riding 1250GS are "special" (they want to be different) so they'll keep the price (market) on 1250GS for some time but after that 95% will sell because no one likes to lose money. 😀
Best Suzuki ever. Is it a joint venture witb BMW? No doubt the bike has more tech on it and the gearbox seems much better but 1250GSA has a strong personality. Hard to compete with it.
1300 is the clear winner here. It hits all the marks. 1250 only got points in V's subjective categories like feeling and expectation.
I truly disliked the r1300gs ,
I have a 2022 r1250gs rally, with every available package and option. A test ride and deep dive on the r1300gs Trophy, and I'm sold. It's the future, its gorgeous. I will ditch the electric locking Vario panniers and buy after market aluminum panniers and brackets.
It’s definitely great to try and check what it feels like as we all like these bikes for different reasons.
Similar story to big changes with latest Goldwing....People prefer OLD model
GS owners and fans are ageing and BMW takes cares of them to make it easier for them to ride up to they are 90 years old if necessary via lots of electronics like the central stand and making more compact bikes…. I wonder if the forthcoming 1400 Adventure will come with 4 wheels 😂
Haha, that's a good one, but let's maybe first start with 3 wheels, huh? ;)
Love the new one. Looks better to me.
The new GS is more appealing to the younger generation
Thanks for the 'vote'!
Hands down my 1250 GSA is a keeper. The new one is absolutely a gem from an engineering point of view, but it lokks lame, and the headlight is hideous.
Not giving up my 2023 1250 GS Trophy, loaded with almost everything. I don't buy the huge weight savings between the two.
Did you jump the red light?
Always attempt to do it and only sometimes fail.
No clutch handle I heard? No TY I love doing my Rev matching with all my hands!
It has been just introduced as an option in 2023 in the new R1300GS.
1250 still looks good
I much prefer the 1250GSA to the new 1300.
On the other hand, after we all say spy shots and a strange shape of the 1300's face, they still launched it this way, so the hope may be for nothing too.
r1300 new chassis much better next generation indeed
The 1300 is the nicest Suzuki BMW have ever made. 😂😂
That's a DEEPLY mean one ;)
When a BMW tries to do a Ducati…. Is what the new 1300 is….. I don’t like it looks wise( though it’s a superb bike still), I am sure there are many out there like me 😅
❤ good thoughts
15:10😂 you kill me
My pleasure :)
Sorry, the 1300 has no road presence. In SA we ride between taxis and smaller bikes have no place
I will stick to my old bikes. Not getting this bike now or in the future.
The "X" in a mirror might looks scary.
after over 20yrs, BMW finally got rid of the fugly headlights on the GS.. that one reason alone is good enough over the 1250.. but i'll never get a GS just bcos they kept the fugly headlights for so long.. hahaha.. so many other better choices now with Ducati / KTM / Triumph / etc.
If design is a major factor, then yeah, it's a simpler choice.
The 1300 gs trophy is not lighter than the 1250 Gs. Check it please.
It is not if you consider
1L
Lithium ion bat
Spoke wheels
Trophy is in fact just a color. Most of the optional equipment can be added to all versions in a similar manner.
Nee, I don't like the 1300 design. I'm a GS rider since 3 years and my next in 2024 is going to be 1250.
Looks like you are late…
@@aldra744 better than never
I mean if you plan new 1250, if used one sure@@Alex-hr2df
Unless it's going to be a used one - then we're all saved. Cheers!
@@VToldsMotoShow
Not sure what you're referring to. There is a 2024 model of 1250 GSA.
The GS 1300 is just a remodel-ed of BMW S1000xr 😂
I love(ed) my 1250 but it’s history, they retooled the factory for the 1300, long live the 1300GS, until the 1350GS comes out in about 5 years time😉
If the patter remains the same, in 5 years there should only be a minor refresh.

LOVE From india 🇮🇳❤
World needs a lot of love - very much appreciated! :)
I beg to differ as 1250 looks waaayyy better than the new 1300. The new one looks more like a Honda NCX700 instead of a BMW 😂
Wait, so what ar you begging for, Sir? ;)
@@VToldsMotoShow 😂😂😂
One looks like a BMW GSA and the other looks like a 650 Hornet.
Lots of Honda inspiration out there in 2023.
Not a bmw guy but the new one looks like a v strom i dont like it
I've been seeing this opinion a few times and it still makes me wonder about the similarities.
Engine is far far stronger in 1300 also its more refined,
1250
Your points are really good. Comparison is very informing. But your toning.. You don't need to use your all breathe at once. Anyways. Thanks.
Yamaha Super Tenere 😊😊
Simple: Yamaha Super Tenere XTZ 1200 all day long
But it’s been discontinued a while ago.
You can’t feel much of a difference when changing suspensions settings on the R1250? Really?! From Road to Dynamic no difference? 😅
Really
@@VToldsMotoShow then I’m sorry, you can’t be trusted as a tester. The difference is so neat
@@rockster72 I can't feel that much of a difference neither on mine to be fair. Don't think I'd be able to tell them apart blind folded.
It looks like a suzuki bike
It seems like there's a pattern here. But somehow I don't see the similarities. Maybe it's because I've seen the R 1300 GS in real life and keep that image in my head.
Show mas a HD Panamerica é melhor
1250>1300
Obviously the new one why would you buy a new bike that's already old????
This a tricky one indeed - I agree. In terms of market value, the "old" doesn't make sense but again, there are instances when an outgoing model still stays in people's hearts while the new one gets a cold welcome.
Simple.... I don't want to be a Beta Tester for BMW for the 1st 3 years of production, with my bike in their shop, while they fix and debug all the gremlins and problems that comes with anything german in cars or motorcycles. Been there, done that. No more.
gs 1250 still more carızmatıc...
Which to choose? Neither. Get a real bike instead of a Christmas Tree 🤣🤣
Not a bad time to get a Christmas Tree now during Christmas ;)
Nice try bmw, but the Multistrada V4S is better!
and much more expensive lol
@@donatotusi9140 try india bikes , they even cheaper , but good things costs!
Try asking about the gas consumption of multistrada. It’s shocking!
Excellent no-bias review 👍
Cramped seating in the new is not a good thing...
Lacking in torque and it runs hot. Read the reviews - VERY seldom does a MS V4S come out ahead of a GS.
Choose neither. BMW changes for pride month, but ONLY in countries that support guys and lesbians. Not getting my money.
What changes did they do? I am extremely anti lgbtq and can't stand companies worshipping that devilish cult
Does it make their motorcycles any slower or worse? 🤣🤣🤣
WTF??
So what your saying is bmw don't control governments around the world but you think that they should. Sounds like fascism to me 😂
So should they do it in all countries or not do it at all? I noticed the new logo I think a year ago in 2022. Very colorful indeed.
2022 Full Black KTM 1290 Super Adventure S with SC Project exhaust is better than both of these two old fart BMWs. I love my SAS. Brutal
That's also a certain approach towards an alternative to these two.
